Japan dominated Canada en route to a 4-0 win at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup on Saturday, dropping the Canadians to the bottom of Pool D. Mao Kubota, Uno Shiragaki, Momoko Tanikawa and Mio Takaoka scored for Japan in a lopsided contest at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The win sent Japan (2-0-0) into the quarterfinals with one pool game, against France (0-1-1), to come. To continue at the tournament, Canada (0-1-1) must beat Tanzania (1-1-0) in its final opening-round game Tuesday in Navi Mumbai and hope Japan beats or ties France. Should Canada and France both win, it would come down to goal difference, with the French currently at minus-one and Canada minus-four.

Let's talk about it.

The BabyReds Canada Soccer has announced their squad for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022, which will run from 11 October to 30 October. Canada has been placed in group D in company of Japan, Tanzania and France. “I’m really excited by the talent we have in this group,” said Emma Humphries, Canada Soccer’s Women’s U-17 National Team Coach. “Every player dreams of representing their country at a World Cup and we can’t wait to get started. We want to get Canada excited about the future of the program and I know this team will do everything to do the shirt proud” Emma Humphries’ 21-player squad will look to build off their third-place finish at the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship earlier this year. The squad will be missing key player Rosa Maalouf due to injury. Maalouf scored 12 of Canada’s 26 goals during their qualification run for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022. In all, Canada have participated in seven consecutive editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ (1995 to 2019) and four consecutive editions of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament (2008 to 2021).

At Tokyo 2020, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team became the first Canadian team to win three consecutive medals at the Summer Olympic Games and just the third nation in the world to win three medals in women’s soccer. Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Youth Teams, meanwhile, have won four Concacaf youth titles: Canada have qualified for eight editions of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup (including a silver medal at Canada 2002) and all seven editions of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup (including a fourth-place finish at Uruguay 2018.)

Canada ended another strong international window on Monday, beating Morocco 4-0 in a friendly match at Estadio Municipal de Chapín in Spain.  It took Canada a while to build into this game, as they struggled early on to link the attack and defence and build momentum. Morocco’s defenders were happy to defend in the early stages of the match, willing to sit back and just keep the ball in front of them with tackles and pressing to try and push Canada back, but that changed once Canada scored the opening goal 24 minutes in.  After Évelyne Viens stole the ball from a Moroccan player after a misplaced goal kick, she ran at the backline, putting pressure on them immediately. She held the ball long enough for Jessie Fleming to charge in before Viens found the Chelsea midfielder with a pass inside. Fleming beat a defender before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net for the opening goal.

Lets talk about it.

Canada rallied in the second half, pulling ahead on an own goal and Cloe Lacasse's first senior strike to defeat 10-woman Argentina 2-0 in a women's international soccer friendly Thursday in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Spain.

Neither team showed a finishing touch in the first half on a warm evening at Estadio Sanluqueno. But Canada, bolstered by reinforcements off the bench, looked more dangerous after the break and pulled ahead in the 68th minute.

Normally this would be a YouTube video but my editor has chosen violence and is not being cooperative. Thats fine.  You can enjoy it while you work/drive everything else.
