We hear about the mental toll female athletes experience at the collegiate level often. But do you know that our youth female players are experiencing them too? Meet Aubrey McLin. Aubrey is a 2008 Goalkeeper for the Davis Legacy. She is not only a baller on the field, but she is showing our youth female athletes what it means to self advocate and make an impact off the field as well. Why? Aubrey is using her voice and vulnerability to talk about mental health in soccer for girls her age. Aubrey lost a dear friend to suicide to only then lose her role model, Katie Meyer, a few weeks later.  Aubrey came up with an idea to help others who are struggling and shared it at a recent club board meeting.  Fingers crossed more youth players will begin to use their voice for much needed systemic changes in our sport. One Third of Female Athletes drop out of sports by late adolescence (WSF). What if our periods and puberty play a larger role in that stat than we think? Josephine Kwan, founder of Flow 2 Freedom, is doing the research and providing solutions for this taboo subject that deserves the spotlight. In a day and age when our USWNT and teams like Chelsea are doing the sports science research on the effects of the menstrual cycle and its role in our performance as female athletes, why isn't this a topic we are discussing at the age when girls are first getting their periods?
