James McDonald

Welcome to the servant of the game podcast. The goal of this podcast is to speak to the people who surround sport and create a platform for both the athletic and personal success of others. I’ll be speaking to those in the sports medicine realm as well as fitness and sport coaches to find out what being a true Servant of the Game means to them.

In this episode of the podcast we change the perspective and our discussion a little. While normally focussed on the injured athlete or elite physical performance, this time my guest Zoran Stojkovic and I tackle the mindset and mental performance challenges that athletes face.

My guest on this episode is mental performance coach, Zoran Stojkovic of Kizo Performance. Zoran believes that every athlete should be at their best and be happy. He equips athletes, coaches, and teams with mental skills, so they can unleash their best performance and do so with a smile on their face. Kizo Performance, trains and conditions the mind with evidence-based techniques to empower peak performance at full speed, while fatigued, and under pressure. Zoran's love for coaching and human performance development led him to complete a MSc degree in Sport & Exercise Psychology. Zoran is a certified mental performance consultant (CMPC), and a high-performance tennis coach. Zoran can be reached at:

On this episode it was my pleasure to interview fellow Athletic Therapist Jaime Livingston. She has some great thoughts on the long and winding road towards finding our purpose and some of the often ignored yet very common struggles of new practitioners. Jaime, along with her husband Scott, are working on a their own revolution as they try to spread their message of reconditioning to the fitness and sports medicine professionals of Canada. I hope you enjoy listening to her speak as much as I did interviewing her.

One audio note: There was some very loud traffic in the background during the call, which I tried to limit, but don't let that distract you from the awesome content Jaime provides.

As well, she talks about her early experiences that led her into the professional of Athletic Therapy. If her outreach work is intriguing and you would like to help, she would definitely welcome any help as her next trip to Africa is coming soon.

Tom was one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I met during my time working in the BC Hockey League and I think that really comes through in his words on this episode. Whether it is the hundreds of athletes and students he has mentored, his dramatic climb to the base camp of Everest or recovering and thriving after his recent stroke, he is definitely someone who personifies a Servant of the game.

Schad has literally been there and seen it all. He is likely one of the few people to say that they have worked at the highest level in Canada in multiple sports and leagues. From pro Baseball, to The Calgary Flames and Saskatchewan Roughriders and now Canadian University sports, Schad brings a wealth of experience and perspective to this episode.

Esteban brings a wealth of experience and infectious passion that certainly served him well in his more than two decades working in professional baseball. It is unfortunate that the nearly two hour pre-show interview didn't get captured, but I think I definitely got the best parts of it during this episode.

For the inaugural episode of the podcast I really wanted someone who I knew personally and who I felt really showcases the idea of being a Servant of the Game. I definately made the right choice with Randy. As someone who knew what it took to succeed as an athlete initially and later as a dedicated therapist, Randy is a great guest to start off this series.
