Burnout doesn’t always look like breaking down.

For many men, it looks like continuing to function, going to work, supporting others, staying productive while quietly feeling exhausted, irritable, and disconnected.

In this episode, Dr Shami explores the early signs of burnout that are often overlooked, and why recognising them early can make all the difference.

This conversation offers a deeper understanding of how burnout develops, not just mentally, but physically, through the nervous system, hormones, and lifestyle patterns.

If you’ve been feeling “off” but can’t quite explain why, this episode will help you connect the dots.

Mould is more than just a cosmetic issue, it’s a biological exposure. When moisture sits in a home for more than 48 hours, microbes can proliferate and release toxins and airborne compounds that impact indoor air quality and health.

Many people are living in chronic stress mode without realising it.

They feel tired but wired, their sleep becomes disrupted, digestion becomes sensitive, and small stresses start to feel overwhelming.

But often these symptoms are not random.

They are signals from the nervous system that the body has been in survival mode for too long.

In this episode of the SIX Hats Podcast, integrative GP Dr Shami explores 10 common signs that your body may be stuck in stress mode, and explains why recognising these signals is the first step toward restoring balance.

You’ll also learn a simple nervous system reset exercise you can try today.

If you recognise several of these signs, your body may simply be asking for more safety, rhythm and recovery.

Scapegoating at work is one of the most subtle—and damaging—forms of workplace abuse. Unlike bullying, which is overt and direct, scapegoating often hides in plain sight: an individual is unfairly blamed, excluded, or sacrificed to protect the image of a team or leader.

In this episode, Dr. Nathalie Martinek, author of The Scapegoating Playbook at Work, unpacks the predictable stages of scapegoating and how they unfold in professional settings. You’ll learn:

  • Why scapegoating isn’t the same as bullying (though they can overlap).
  • The stages of the scapegoating pattern and warning signs to look out for.
  • How leaders and employees can interrupt the cycle before it causes long-term harm.
  • Practical steps to create cultures of accountability that don’t rely on targeting individuals when problems arise.

If you’ve ever felt unfairly blamed at work—or witnessed a colleague being sacrificed for the sake of “team harmony”—this conversation will help you name what’s happening, protect yourself and others, and inspire healthier workplace practices.

It always amazes me how doctors don't ask about nutrition when it comes to mental health. It's crucial. It's vital. It's not to be missed as it could be a missing piece of the health puzzle. It was inspiring to hear Dr Pratima Singh, a Psychiatrist with expertise in functional medicine talk about how she uses nutrition in her practice, helping numerous patients overcome mental health conditions.

Dr Pratima Singh is an experienced psychiatrist from the UK. She completed her training from Maudsley training scheme and worked as a consultant psychiatrist in South London and Maudsley NHS trust among other roles.

Pratima has an interest in exploring the root causes of mental health conditions and designs psychological and biomedical protocols that consider the individual, their unique circumstances and needs. She has also trained under Institute of Functional medicine and strives to integrate the best of conventional psychiatry with nutritional, hormonal, stress, toxic and infectious underlying causes of chronic mental health symptoms.

Dr Ailsa Care is UK based GP with over 20 years of experience. Following some personal health problems, which conventional medicine failed to solve, she sought some medical advice from a practitioner who used a root-cause approach, similar to functional medicine. The resolution of her health issues led her to seek training in this approach. Since then she has completed training with both the Institute of Functional Medicine and the British Society of Ecological Medicine.

"When you learn about functional medicine, it makes so much sense to search for the root causes of a patient’s illness. I love having so much more time to spend with patients and to be able to offer a truly holistic, personalised approach."

I had the honour of spending time with Christine and Judy from the popular podcast series "Psychology Has It Backwards". This podcast changed my life when I realised how we can caught up in thought, which in fact, is a story we've created. Thinking patterns are merely habits and that means they can be changed. Loved my conversation with two incredible women who are changing the world with their wisdom on the three principles which was initially discovered by Sydney Banks.

Dr Fabienne Chevalier is a therapist, a matrescence and motherhood advocate, an educator and researcher into language, the mind and behaviour and also a mother. With a focus on anxiety, depression, trauma, anger and emotional blocks, she brings together therapy, coaching and a background in research and education in linguistics, sociology and psychology in her practice.

In particular, she works career-driven and working mothers who feel like they have lost themselves since they became mothers and who feel trapped, unfulfilled, undervalued and invisible. She helps them to break free from survival mode and the emotional rollercoaster of motherhood, including anger, resentment and guilt, and navigate motherhood and career on their own terms so they can reconnect with themselves and be the fulfilled mother, woman and professional they want to be.

She does 1:1 therapy and coaching. She also runs a live group program called So Much More Than a Mother, supporting and connecting mothers going through these emotional struggles. Her self-study course on maternal anger will be released later this year in 2023. It will enable women who don’t feel ready to seek 1:1 help from a therapist yet to start working through it at their own pace.

Today Dr Fabienne Chevalier talks about:

  • What maternal anger and mum rage are
  • Why talking about anger and rage in motherhood is still a taboo conversation that carries stigma and leads mothers to hide it
  • Where anger and rage really come from and what is at the root of these issues
  • How guilt sustains the cycle of anger and rage in motherhood
  • The ways Dr Fabienne helps mothers get out of the anger cycle

Melissa's first official foray into consciously managing money started when she began working in the finance industry whilst completing her Bachelor of Business. Working in a variety of roles in banking, she was able to see first-hand the results of poor money management, not only in the lives of everyday people like you and I but also in the large corporate portfolios that she managed.

Over the years Melissa has put her understanding of money management to good use, managing pubs, taking on financial analyst and bank manager roles and whether it be family, friends or customers, she has some wise words on how to start consciously managing our money better. And to top it off, Mel has now started her own business ‘Financial Wellbeing Coach’ to help others take control of their finances. Connect with Melissa here: https://fwcoach.com.au

This conversation with Sharn Hobill blew me away as we talked about her career as a young human rights lawyer, dealing with the impact of stress on her health, to her current life of being a single working mum whilst completing her PhD in Law looking at the intersection between public health and diet related illness. Love her vulnerability and how she is challenging the food narrative. Did you know food is not a human right?
