The Enrollment Clinic presents a limited series titled "Sorry, No Budget" ...a higher education-ish podcast. I recorded this with my good friend Sam Fleischman.

This episode was recorded one week before the AIRC Convention in Phoenix (2023). Sam and I were to conduct a panel discussion on Future-Proofing Higher education. We decided to record an episode and brainstorm our ideas on the topic. It was part podcast, part rehearsal for the main event.

We cover a lot of ground. We talk about various aspects of future-proofing in higher education. What it means? How do you do it? What are some institutions doing? We also get into higher education policy regarding international student enrollment.

Let me know your thoughts on this. Don't forget to rate the podcast, subscribe, and leave a comment.

We cover a lot of ground in this episode and I feel we need to follow up with a part 2 as I was very interested to hear about the successes John has had building a global team of admissions and enrollment professionals, and the challenges of managing teams in various geographical locations.    He shares a simple, yet ingenious idea to keep each member of the team focused on the mission.

We talk about the challenge of recruiting future doctors during Covid.  We talk about how to best manage budgets.   What tools are best for driving enrollment.  How to tackle new markets.    The last 5 minutes of the episode are dedicated to recruiting, training and developing admissions personnel.

I decided to record this short 12 minute episode because 1) there is no good research out there as to what works best FEES vs DEPOSITS, and 2) because I have been thinking and experimenting with this topic a great deal, so I have some data and results that I share in the podcast (it may be directional, but it is a good starting point.

The experience is based on an open-enrollment university environment, so my analysis is based on admitting any student that meets the minimum qualifications.   Therefore, Fees vs. Deposits becomes a big decision point (especially with International Students).

Give it a listen and let me know your thoughts.  What is your experience at your institution?

We talk about what Search Marketing encompasses, trends in higher education, content, etc.  We spend a good amount of time talking about what universities do right, when it comes to SEO, and what they do wrong.

There is definitely tons of info to pack in our 25 minute conversation, and especially a great deal of tips and tricks on how to excel in reaching prospective students online.
