"From the beginning, we recognized a need to choose. Our first choice was: would we let our circumstances defeat us or would we choose to make the most of our situation?" - Diana Derringer

Diana Derringer is a writer and international ministry worker. She is passionate about sharing the message of hope and joy that is possible when people turn to Jesus in faith. Diana has written Christian radio dramas that are broadcast in numerous languages around the world.

This is Diana Derringer's story...

I'm Diana Derringer, and I love sharing the message of hope that's possible when people turn to Jesus in faith. I've been through some tough times in my life – my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor and later suffered a stroke, heart attack, and fall with a severe brain injury – but through it all, I've learned to rely on God's never-changing nature, not my ever-changing emotions. I would encourage others who are going through tough times to do the same – to embrace God's love and promises, even when they can't see or feel them. Trust that God will carry you through every difficulty and that He can use even the worst circumstances to bring good into your life.

In this episode, you will learn the following:

  1. How Diana Derringer chose joy after her husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor and then experienced a stroke, heart attack, and fall with a severe brain injury

  2. How Diana's writing has opened doors for her to reach more people than she could have through international mission trips

  3. How God can use the worst of our circumstances to bring good out of them

In Choices from struggle to strength, Clinton Wasylishen shares his story of going from freezing, mosquito-ridden Alberta, Canada to living his dream life in Costa Rica--and how you can too.

Clinton Wasylishen is a Canadian entrepreneur and coach who helps people figure out their dream and live it. He is passionate about helping people find a way to live their dream now, instead of later. Clinton has experienced firsthand the challenges and rewards of living a dream life, and he loves helping others do the same.

This is Clinton Wasylishen's story... Clinton helps people figure out what their dream is and then live that dream by creating a plan to find a way to live their dream now instead of later. He is passionate about this because he believes that it is a waste of a life to wait to live your dream. He has experienced many challenges in his own journey to living his dream, including selling everything he owned and moving to Costa Rica with his family.

In Costa Rica, he started a business helping other entrepreneurs figure out their dream life and create a business to match it. When the pandemic hit, his business was impacted but he has continued to adapt and help others achieve their dreams.

In this episode, you will learn the following:

  1. Why it's important to figure out your dream and live it now, instead of later.

  2. The challenges that come with living a different kind of life, including judgment from others.

  3. How Clinton's business helps entrepreneurs figure out their dream life and create a business to support it.

Chapter Summaries:

[00:00:13] - Clinton Wasylishen is visiting choices from struggle to strength today.

[00:00:30] - Clinton's passion is helping people figure out what their dream is and then live that dream. He believes waiting for retirement is a waste of a life, and it pains him to see people wait to live whatever their dream might be. So that's what he's most passionate about.

[00:01:18] - In 2008 when he first came to Costa Rica. He loved it and decided to live there. He met his partner and they had two children in Canada, so they had to wait six plus years to get back to Costa Rica. Now they are living their dream.

[00:04:45] - After deciding on a dream and going for it, moving from one continent to another is a challenge for a family. They sold all their possessions and drove a minivan across the United States, living in a tent with two young children. They created their own small school for their children in Costa Rica, where the education is better than in Canada.

[00:10:07] - Clinton has been an entrepreneur most of his life and helps others to live their dreams. He believes that working a job is not the best way to live a fulfilled life. Clinton had to close down a gym in Canada because of the pandemic.

[00:13:39] - According to him, the first step for people who are frustrated with their 9-5 job is to take some time out in nature and imagine what it would look like if you could live any life at all. Even his partner didn't believe that she would end up in Costa Rica.

[00:15:12] - After the pandemic, Clinton and his partner decided to stay in Costa Rica for the time being. Clinton's father envies him because he would like to live in Costa Rica.

[00:19:27] - What holds most people back is an idea that something or another is not possible. Most of the time, it's not conscious, but it's subconscious. This goes for somebody who has a job or wants to gain a promotion. It goes for business owners who need help with marketing. It comes down to mindset.

[00:24:16] - Clinton encourages people to spend more time dreaming and dreaming bigg

"I am very passionate about systems, processes, streamlining, communication, and building relationships. And I'm passionate about these components because they support me. I support business owners with designing their businesses around their lifestyle vision and being able to make it a reality."

This is Celia Faye Meisel's story... Celia Meisel was burnt out from working seven days a week and decided she needed a change.

Chapter Summaries: [00:01:20] - I am passionate about systems, processes, streamlining, communication, and building relationships. I also support business owners with designing their businesses around their lifestyle vision and being able to make it a reality so they have more control over their lives. It's so easy to get into reaction mode and it's exhausting.

[00:02:04] - In the summer of 2013, at the age of 33, when she was working seven days a week, she had a complete health crisis. Because of stress and anxiety, she decided to change her career and start a new one. The struggle made her a stronger person.

[00:05:43] - How do you learn to listen to yourself more so that you don't go down that path again? I spend a lot of time in the quiet. I like to do self-development work away from business and focus on Celia. Reading books, journaling, taking courses, and listening to inner nudges has helped me to build a life where I trust myself.

[00:07:23] - In 2008 when she first got into business, she didn't know what coaching was. She hired her first coach and she stepped onto a new path in life. She worked on a sales team for a couple of years and got a high rank in sales and evolved into marketing and business development.

[00:09:12] - People who are feeling burnt out and need to change should listen to their hearts and have people in their lives that they can talk to where they can express themselves. Every dream needs a leap of faith and practical action steps to get there so people need to be open to seeing them and receiving them.

I'm Natalie Forest, and I'm passionate about helping people reconnect with their inner talents and gifts. A few years ago, I found myself in a difficult situation where I felt like I was living a strange life that I couldn't escape from. I was becoming less and less able to breathe. It was a big decision to make, but I decided to move back to my hometown with my daughter. It was a scary experience, but it has made me a stronger person. Since then, I have been able to join a transformational leader group that is based on collaboration instead of competition. I have also been able to travel more and connect with my family. My advice to anyone going through a similar experience is to follow your intuition, be grateful, and believe in yourself.

In this video, you will learn:

  1. The importance of knowing your audience, yourself, and the market when writing a book

  2. The benefits of collaboration over competition

  3. The power of gratitude in difficult times

This is Ashley Pride's story...

Ashley Pride is a passionate person who has experienced many difficult events in her life. Despite this, she has found ways to cope and become a stronger person. One of the things she is most passionate about is helping others find what lights them up. After losing her nephew, Ashley struggled to deal with the grief. She eventually realized that she needed to find a different way to cope. This led her to the Kindness Community, which has helped her be more open and vulnerable. Self-care is important to Ashley. She enjoys taking long showers, listening to music, and looking at the clouds. She also believes that everyone is creative and that we should all take the time to create for the sake of creating.

In this episode, you will learn the following:

  1. How Ashley Pride dealt with the loss of her nephew, and how she turned that experience into a positive by creating art and community.

  2. What self-care looks like for Ashley Pride, and how it has helped her to become a stronger person.

  3. How Ashley Pride's work as an artist has helped her to find joy and healing in her life.

"I'm passionate about being passionate, which I don't know if that's a thing that I realized until I got around, like, some fanatics and was magnetized by just how they were lit up. So finding ways to light other people up or helping them find what lights them up."

Resources:You can find Ashley on Twitter at @apriddesigns, on Instagram at @apriddesigns, or on her website, AshleyPride.com.

Chapter Summaries:

[00:00:12] - Ashley is happy to be here.

[00:00:30] - Ashley lost her baby nephew at nine months. Ashley is passionate about being passionate and helping others find what lights them up. Ashley was overwhelmed with grief after her nephew passed away. Ashley has channeled her grief into being more empathetic to people who are grieving.

[00:08:01] - After the loss of her nephew, she went to a counselor and started journaling and talking to people who were also grieving to help her deal with her grief. She believes that being there for each other and being in community with each other helps to heal the grief.

[00:10:33] - This experience has empowered her to be more open and vulnerable. She used to be too shy to talk about things that were bothering her, but now she feels more confident. Community is important, and focusing on the things that we have in common is also important.

[00:12:41] - After the death of her nephew, she had to find a new way to connect with people. She co-hosts the Kindness Community on Twitter with Dan Roeder and she believes that the present is the most important thing that we have.

[00:16:06] - Self-care is whatever makes you feel good and keeps your body moving and moving in the best way possible. Self-care looks different to different people and we need to find what works for us. For her, prayer, aromatherapy, and candles are her main sources of self-care. She also takes walks in nature and looks at the sky.

[00:19:30] - There's a misunderstanding about what creativity is and how it's defined. Many people say they're not creative, but they're missing out. Creativity is not about being good at something. It's about creating something for the sake of creating. I believe we are all creative beings because we were made in the image of a creator.

[00:21:45] - Ruth is grateful for the conversation she had with Ashley. Ashley is a Pride design designer. She is on Twitter at @APrideDesigns and on Instagram and her website is https:AshleyPride.com. Ashley looks forward to continuing the conversation on Twitter.

I want to talk to you about five ways to respond to 1-Star reviews. We all enjoy the four and five-star reviews, but we will also get those 1-star reviews. So, let’s talk about dealing with those reviews. As authors we must have “tough skin” some days. We appreciate reviews because they help people decide whether to buy our book or not. A lot of people depend on those reviews. So, reviews are very important.

5 Tasks for Launch Team Members

  1. 3:10 – The danger of having only four and five-star reviews
  2. 3:56 – Is this an opportunity to improve your manuscript?
  3. 4:56 – Ignore reviews from people who haven’t purchased your book
  4. 5:10 – If you need encouragement, do this!
  5. 7:06 – Are most people happy with your book?
  6. 7:40 – Some questions to ask yourself

I want to talk to you today about five tips for cover design. First, though, my recommendation is that you get a professional cover designer to create your cover. Yes, you can create your own cover designs and Amazon provides a cover design option when you’re uploading your book. It does work for some people. It doesn’t work for other people. When you’re starting out, you want to put your best foot forward. A good cover can literally make the difference between your book succeeding and not succeeding. Your cover is the first introduction people have to your book. I believe it’s four or five seconds that people take to decide whether they are going to look at more details of your book, so your cover is extremely important.

5 Tips on Cover Design

3:11 – The teeny tiny thumbnail image

3:42 – If people cannot read this, they will skip over your book

4:00 – Advice about fonts

4:27 – Make it easy to read, catchy, and current

6:56 – You don’t want your book to stand out in the wrong way!

8:05 – Make sure your cover and your book content match

Let’s talk about how often we should tweet. You’ll find a variety of opinions. Remember that different audiences respond to unique approaches. Here are three suggestions to try:

  1. Guy Kawasaki (1.4 million followers) 50 different tweets, each repeated 4x
  2. Joe Pulizzi (4-1-1- rule = 4 pieces of content + 1 retweet/comment + 1 marketing tweet)
  3. Grant Cardone (No such thing as too much content. 80-95% information only; 5-20% promotional)

Today I am sharing some personal stories with you regarding why I’m so passionate about Twitter. 1. As a writer, Twitter taught me to write clearly and succinctly (using only 144 characters). Then, when I published my book Learn Twitter, I found thousands of eager readers with the help of social media, including Twitter. 2. As a school board trustee, Twitter helped with political advocacy when we hit a roadblock advocating for new schools. 3. As an entrepreneur, Twitter helped me grow my audience globally and gives me opportunities to learn from and connect with people from different cultures.
