Embrace the Container: How to Declutter and Optimize Your Life for Success

Welcome back to the Mary Guirovich Show. This episode is inspired by Mel Robbins' life-altering podcast that opened my eyes to the beauty of 'embracing the container.' Here, I discuss how this simple concept has influenced my recent trip to Pittsburgh, how it's busted myths around decluttering, and more importantly, how it's transformed my outlook towards life and career.

The container concept goes beyond tidying up physical spaces; it’s a philosophy that empowers you to release anything that doesn’t serve you, whether it's a cluttered closet or a cluttered mind. I’m looking forward to inviting Dana White, the guest on Mel Robbins’ show, to further discuss this amazing decluttering concept.

In this episode, I touch upon the emotional process of releasing things that no longer serve us, and why it's important not to dwell on questions like 'do I love it?' or 'do I have a use for it?' when deciding what to keep. Using a simple story of my quest to find the perfect container for my crayons, I explore the idea of letting go of things that may be taking up too much space, both physically and emotionally.

Episode Highlights

00:00 - Introduction: The beauty and power of 'embracing the container.' I reveal my source of inspiration and how this concept has changed my life.

03:36 - I debunk myths around decluttering and explain why it's so much more than just an aesthetic practice.

05:06 - The story of the red crayon bucket: A real-life example of the concept of containers, and how we sometimes need to downsize to make room for what truly matters.

08:09 - From bug killers to pens: A discussion on the necessity of choosing what to keep and what to release.

09:42 - Reflections on intentional living: The power of decluttering in propelling you towards your life and career goals.

12:44 - Time management and prioritizing projects: A look into the role of 'containers' in organizing your life.

15:46 - Intentional Living and creating the life you want through mindful calendaring.

17:19 - The transformative power of the 'Container' philosophy in fulfilling our life's purpose.

Remember, decluttering is a journey, not a destination. When the container is full, that is enough. Embrace the process and witness the transformation. Tune in for more insights on The Mary Guirovich Show

Today, I want to share one of the most important values that have stuck with me throughout my career. When I started following John Maxwell years ago, before he became one of my mentors, he said something that has become my principle ever since: to be a person of value and to value people.

This should be a principle not just in our workplace but also in life. Being a person with value who values others is something we all should strive to uphold. When we are clear on our values and what we stand for, we can live authentically and make decisions more easily. We know which path to take in life because we understand what is important to us, and that is what our values are all about.

I also talked about the importance of celebrating achievements and milestones to value others. Whether it's hitting a major goal, reaching an anniversary with the company, or completing a project, recognizing and celebrating these accomplishments is essential in making people feel valued and appreciated.

In this episode, we talked about the following:

  • Being your authentic self
  • The values of a Christian, and the bible as the standard
  • Importance of valuing others
  • Importance of showing up for people
  • Empathy and understanding towards others

How have you been making decisions for your business? Do you make decisions based on business sense or biblical sense?

In this episode, I explore how my belief has impacted my decision-making process, especially regarding business. Choosing what was best for the business was all I needed to think about in making a decision. But that was before I accepted Jesus in my life.

He saved me, but what's really interesting is I started questioning my business perspective. I was changed and there was a clear delineation in me. For example I prayed before meetings, for my clients, about situations, for the company, and for my team.

Even with all the changes that God made through I still need to unite my thoughts on business principles with biblical principles.

Tune in to this episode to gain insights on:

  • making decisions selfishly and from a worldly view
  • how my whole world changed when I was saved by God
  • following and fearing our bosses more than God
  • being misunderstood and unheard when sharing God's word

Three ways to close the Burnout Gender Gap With Kelly Swingler

Burnout is becoming an increasingly prevalent concern, especially among women in the workforce, and it's timely to talk about this topic in the latest episode of my podcast with our guest speaker Kelly Swingler, a Burnout Recovery Strategist.

Have you ever pushed yourself too hard to get a promotion or be recognized at work?

It's not a secret that everyone wants to advance in their careers, but when does it start to get toxic and lead to burnout? Success, for most overachievers, means more work. Even when your body doesn't agree, your mind still wants to do the job. Because as women, we were conditioned by society as givers and nurturers, the ones who have to be there for others. That's why surveys say more women experience burnout than men.

In this episode, we talked about:

  • how Kelly decided to reassess everything in life and work because of burnout
  • redefining success and breaking the burnout cycle
  • what is burnout gender gap
  • toxic workplace as the number one cause of burnout
  • God didn't create us to be someone we are not
  • three things to avoid burnout and close the burnout gender gap

What does it mean to live in abundance?

Free LIVE Masterclass

5 Shortcuts Revealed for Loyal Women Looking to Confidently Accelerate Their Career Progression-Without Burning Out, Sacrificing Flexibility, or Changing Jobs

What does abundance look like, and what does 'really' mean?

We often think of material things like money, houses, and cars whenever we hear the word abundance. We tend to associate it with financial gain, but the truth is what God tells us in the bible. We cannot serve two masters, so we cannot serve God and money simultaneously. To experience abundance, accepting God into our hearts is the most beautiful thing to do, and the rest will follow.

In this podcast, I talked about the following:

  • Material things can only give us happiness in a small amount of time.
  • God gives us freedom from our sins, and because of Him, we live free of anxiety, worry, anger, and rage, and isn't that part of the abundant-living?
  • God wants you to live in financial abundance because you are a generous person who uses her resources in kind and proper ways.
  • No matter our past situation, when we accept Jesus into our lives, the holy Spirit will refine us, and it's a beautiful process.
  • Galatians 5:22-23 shows how the holy Spirit produces fruit and abundance in our lives. (Galatians 5:22-23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law.)
  • Material things don't matter if you don't have peace in your life.
  • Maybe you do not have every financial breakthrough you want right now, but God is listening, and He wants to hear from you because He has a perfect plan for you.

5 Shortcuts Revealed for Loyal Women Looking to Confidently Accelerate Their Career Progression-Without Burning Out, Sacrificing Flexibility, or Changing Jobs

Success. One word makes the world busy. Busy chasing the illusion.

But what if it’s actually the other way around.

You are not to chase success, because you are already wired for it.

God already designed you as a success.

But what does this mean exactly?

In today’s episode, we dive deep into understanding the real meaning of being wired for success even from the beginning.

If you’re feeling stuck in failure, disappointment, or in any challenging situation, that uncomfortable feeling comes from your real identity, because you’re not wired to that failure.

  • You are wired for success. What does it mean? 01:35.19
  • Beliefs of the heart matter 04:37.62
  • Success varies 06:07.21
  • What is success? 07:37.93

“It does exist, and it’s commonly not talked about” - Dr. Amber Tichenor, PhD

Have you ever felt like you had to drag yourself to work not because of your work itself but because of a co-worker?

Are you feeling sad or anxious every Sunday, knowing that the next day it’s back to work and feelings of dread are commonplace?

Is there someone from the office who always makes you feel threatened or on edge?

We hear you. And a lot of females are experiencing the same thing.

Female rivalry. It does exist.

In this episode, together with Dr. Amber Tichenor, the founder of To Be Coaching and Consulting, we will dive deeper into the whys, how, when, who, and so much more questions about female rivalry that are often left unasked and unanswered.

It does exist, and to resolve these cases, we first need to acknowledge that you are in one.

Self-awareness and having conversations about it are important steps to succeeding over female rivalry. Because the more we allow ourselves to accept things to develop and grow, the more these conversations can be a part of the solution.

I encourage everyone to listen to this message today, female or not, whether you feel you may align with this or not, because you may be seeing it in the workplace. Sometimes we can unknowingly contribute to it. Together we can make the workplace better.

“Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are”

You’ve likely heard this saying.

This saying refers to how your relationships with the people around you, your circle of friends, impacts your career and life.

Think of the 5 people you spend the most time with.

How would you describe them?

Are they goal-driven? Accomplished? Supportive?

Or are they Toxic? Or negative people?

Our topic for today is often overlooked because we don’t understand its monumental effect on our lives and careers.

It's the relational impact of our inner circle and how it impacts our career and every single part of our lives, negatively or positively.

And what we can do to build stronger inner circles so we can achieve the things we want.

Because when we surround ourselves with the right relationships, they will help us see the positive. They're going to help us figure out that next step. They're going to believe in us when we do not believe in ourselves, we're going to feel better, and that's going to allow us to keep the commitments we make to ourselves.

Which leads to increased confidence and, ultimately, the achievement of our goals.

  • One of the things that are often overlooked (00:29.22)
  • The Flag Football Tournament (02:02.78)
  • Align yourself with people that have similar goals (05:58.34)
  • This is one of the most important things (07:59.16)
  • A pretty down day (12:01.93)
  • The right circle (14:40.83)

Happy Monday! And Happy New Year!

Today’s the first Monday of the year and National Thank God It’s Monday!

Are you ready for 2023?

Over the past couple of episodes, we have been talking about goal setting. We have carefully and step-by-step listed goals that are possible, feasible, and timely to achieve.

In your journey of achieving those goals, today’s episode is the most important step. Infusing God in everything.

It is the answer to the question: how can we go into this new year?

Inviting God into your work, your household, and into your everyday life, God will help you go into each day. You will feel His presence guiding you in carefully achieving your goals eliminating your anxious thoughts.

When times are tough, He is tougher. When problems are huge, He is bigger. When you feel like nothing makes sense, He is working in your life and He is in control.

He is not leaving you nor forsaking you.

As today’s the first Monday of the year, start your day with a grateful heart. Because God has given us a breath, he has given us a purpose.

  • Let your light shine (00:45.07)
  • How can we go into this new year?(02:25.14)
  • Invite God (04:08.39)
  • Days are long, sometimes (09:22.94)

"What is the difference between vision and sight? “When we take a walk with someone and we see something, we may ask them, "What do you see?" or "What do you think about this?" These questions are made to stimulate their thinking. The same applies when we ask someone else to share their vision. However, if we are talking about vision as a way of seeing, then it is different from sight. When it comes to vision, there is a process involved in order to get what God has for us. We must have the courage to see things by vision, not by sight. This means that we have to have the courage to be able to see what God wants us to see, in spite of what the world tells us or even what our own eyes may show us.

Amanda Heal joins us on today's episode of The Mary Guirovich Show. Amanda is a resilience expert with a remarkable life story to tell. She explains her five secrets to increasing resilience through courage in her keynote speeches. She's the author of several books, the most recent of which is Seeing By Vision Not By Sight: How to Discover Your Life's Purpose And Put It Into Action. Amanda has accomplished so much in her career despite having faced numerous hardships in her life. She walks us through her story, including her 17-year legal profession, the layoff, and what happened afterward. You can't afford to miss this amazing conversation. Tune in to hear more!

Amanda’s Bio:

Amanda Heal is a resilience expert with an extraordinary life story. In her keynote talks, she shares her five keys to increasing resilience by building courage. Amanda survived being born 14 weeks premature. In the seven days when such tiny babies were not deemed viable, She was so small that her father could hold her in the palm of his hand. The oxygen, which actually kept her alive at birth, damaged her eyes, leaving her totally blind. But despite this, Amanda has continued to surprise people with her professional and personal achievements. After graduating with honors and law from the Australian National University, she embarked on a 17-year legal career. Amanda in her spare time climbed to an altitude of 10,000 feet in Nepal and conquered her phobia of getting lost to travel independently, both within Australia and overseas. When not speaking, Amanda is a podcaster. And she's the author of multiple books, the latest being Seeing By Vision Not By Sight: How to Discover Your Life's Purpose And Put It Into Action.

When you make it to the final round of interviewing for an open position, you may be presented with a salary offer and asked whether you’re willing to accept it. While it’s easy to quickly say yes or no, turning the offer down or saying the phrase “I’d like more money” can be a tricky process. Negotiation requires follow-up questions and careful preparation to provide the employer with sufficient justification for your request.

In this episode of The Mary Guirovich show we're going to talk about why it's important to negotiate, when it's appropriate to negotiate, and how to negotiate in the most effective way possible. Sit back, relax and take some notes.

In Today’s Episode We Discuss:

  • Why it is important to negotiate your salary. [02:32]
  • When and what can be negotiated.[05:23]
  • Other benefits you can negotiate for besides salary [07:24]
  • How to negotiate. [09:48]
  • Why it is important to take the time to write down your accomplishments and present them in a meaningful way [10:11]
  • A couple of mistakes that people make when negotiating. [10:38]

Do you truly feel like you can trust your voice? Have you ever wondered how to courageously use your voice to share your ideas, especially at work? The Bible talks about how it’s wise for us to listen more than to talk and while there is great wisdom to be had from this, there are times God will use us to be bold. There are things He will reveal to you that He’s not revealing to others in your organization and it’s up to you to trust your voice and share those ideas.

Today on The Mary Guirovich Show, I’ll be sharing why you need to trust and use your voice, how to find your voice, as well as how to apply your voice at work.

  • If you're somebody who regularly shares your voice, then make room for others by listening and speaking last (13:47)
  • Having a promotion plan will help the meeting with your managers go smoothly (16:36)

Numerous studies have shown that 70% of women would rather leave their jobs than ask for a promotion. As surprising as these statistics are, I know firsthand why this is. Most women, like myself, had never even thought to ask for one. They figure if they were truly capable of advancement then their boss would have asked them already. What I’ve come to realize from personal experience, as well as with the women I’ve coached, is that this isn’t necessarily true.

When you’re experiencing a problem in your life, where or who do you turn to first? Our answer to this question could be the reason we feel depleted when life gets hectic. Our desire to control situations is often what keeps us from true rest. This was true in my own life and, if I’m being honest, the temptation to hustle through is still a battle I wrestle with today. In today’s episode, we’re talking about the importance of margin, how we can implement more of it in our lives, and how Jesus created margin for what was absolutely essential as we look at his example in the Bible.

Highlights of this episode:

  • The importance of creating margin according to the bible (00:34)
  • How the lack of margin creates overwhelm (01:49)
  • The connection between margin & putting God first (04:33)
