Atinuke Badmus Bio: Artinuke (Atinuke Badmus) is a contemporary / Neo-expressionism painter who lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria. A native of Otun, Ekiti, her brilliant paintings pay homage to her homeland. After completing her degree in geology, She scrabbled more into contemporary art. Her idiosyncratic personal style expresses the vibrant spirit, ancient history, and atmosphere of African culture. Her pieces are all brought to life with contrasting and harmonious colors that can be used to express the world through the eyes of others. Adegoke Damilola Ephraim, best known as E.d Adegoke is a professional Artist who studied Performing Arts at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State. He was born on the 10th of November 1998. He hails from Ilesha West Local Government of Osun State, Nigeria. He’s a multi-talented artist and writer consistently working towards success, planning, and operational improvements. AWOSOLA MICHAEL ANGELLO is an Abuja based artist, born in Lagos, Nigeria. He spent his high school education in Lagos state and his tertiary education in Ondo state. He is a painter and his preferred medium is oil on canvas. He is a photorealism painter, who focuses more on realistic human figures, emotions and physical presentations. He is the founder of the COLOURS AND LIGHTS painting style with several series of works signed to it. He has had his solo exhibition which he used to introduce his nobel style and has participated in several group exhibitions and shows some of which is the ONDOYES ART COMPETITION (2012), LIMCAF EXHIBITION (2019), INTERNATIONAL ART AND CULTURE EXPO (2018), LET'S GO PINK BREAST CANCER AWARENESS ART EXHIBITION (2019), ELBOWROOM TRAVELING EXHIBITION (2021) and A 20H WORKSHOP by the Embassy OF Spain in Nigeria (2021) He's an active member of the ELBOWROOM ART MOVEMENT and the SOCIETY of NIGERIAN ARTISTS. Welcome to Artrofest and today we discuss with Steve Nyaga about his Art, his inspirations, and his motivations as an artist. Born in 1978 in Nakuru Kenya, Nyaga is a visual artist living in Nairobi who has over 15 years of experience in various mediums and styles. He works with Pastels, Charcoal, and Chalk on reversed canvas. Steve Nyaga graduated from the Buruburu Institute of Fine Arts in Nairobi Kenya in 2003 and later worked with companies like Safaricom, Serova Stanley , East African Publishers, and AMREF. His style is as a result of years of experimenting and learning the essence of conservatism in painting. It’s minimalistic, raw, and sets to restore lost techniques in finding mediums to create a final piece. His latest work is the African Beauty Series inspired by African pop art!

Today on Artfrofest we discuss with artist Aladejare Ayodeji (b. 1995), known as the Spherical Artis. He is a figurative Realism painter born in Ekiti state of southwestern Nigeria, who presently lives and works in Lagos. He studied painting in the Art Education Department of the Yaba College of Technology in Nigeria.
Ayodeji co-founded Ayowole Academy of Art (2014) in Lagos, a free Art school for children where he teaches drawing and painting. Art Statement "I believe that people’s thoughts, emotions, and stories are being carried in their minds, and whether obvious or not so obvious, have always inspired me. In my work, I tend to combine modern people with African tradition and history by painting figures with the characteristic of a “gazing ball” as their head, which is the main theme of my work. In History (the spheres? ) are known as “Spheres of Light”, they have healing properties and can bring good luck and prosperity. Sometimes I paint spherical heads that depict landscapes whilst other times surreal spaces and places, mostly based on my intuition and the model’s personality In overall, the spheres convey the beauty of people’s existence that is being reflected in their heads."

Meet artist Dieudonné Kamkang this week on Artfrofest .
His work addresses the issue of youth and the importance of knowing one's history in order to give new generations a solid foundation.
Through his works, the artist explores the notion and the question of "restitution" while showing the role and the place of the traditional culture in the development and the future. He invites us to return to our roots, to follow the model of Sankofa (Ashanti concept teaching us the importance of learning from the past to build the future).

Today I am discussing with Akindele John about his work, his inspirations, and his concepts.
Akindele John, born in 1995 in Ogun State, Nigeria, and currently living in Lagos, focuses his work on women from Africa and the African diaspora. He portrays them in contemplation, draping them in vibrant colors ranging from jewel tones to neon brights. Akindele began his practice by experimenting with charcoal and liquid acrylic, media which helped him realize that figurative paintings lead us to a better understanding of ourselves as creative, interactive beings.
The figures in his works gaze vividly back at us and also engage back-and-forth with one another in nonverbal negotiations. Akindele’s paintings are distinctive in their use of loose, playful lines and the softness of his brush’s effects. His works pay particular homage to his African-Nigerian identity, with a strong focus on his gratitude for Black feminine expression and identity in African society.
One striking feature of his work, for example, is how he captures nappturality, the hairstyles of Black women who have chosen to exclusively wear their hair in a natural, afro-textured state. Over the past few years, Akindele has developed into a full-time studio artist working across a range of techniques and mediums. His mastery of figurative art brings forth the movement and moods of his subjects, and leaves viewers inspired and mesmerized.

Today we are welcoming artist Wande Oseni. She will share with us her work, inspirations, and the aim of her work. Wande Oseni is a self-taught Nigerian visual artist based in Lagos State. She draws inspiration from her experiences, those of close friends as well as her opinions and commentary on topics of femininity, gender equity, mental health, societal and environmental struggles. Wande's preferred medium are acrylics and digital painting using distinctive biological gender symbols to represent the subject heads. Wande holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Finance from the University of Lagos.
ARTIST STATEMENT "Through my art, I express the beauty and ugliness, the highs and lows of femininity that I experience, those of friends and women generally, ranging from topics of mental health, societal pressures, gender equity and other human interactions. The use of biological gender symbols in my works as heads is to place more emphasis on body language rather than physiognomy in conveying feelings and emotions."

Today I have the pleasure to speak to artist Paschal Ugwu about his latest work. He will share with us his journey as an artist, his inspirations, and much more. Paschal Obinna Ugwu (b.1996, Nsukka) is a contemporary Artist, painter, from Orba, Enugu State, Nigeria. He is a full-time Painter, and presently lives and works in Abuja, Nigeria. Paschal Ugwu obtained a Bachelor of Arts for Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He uses imagery as a point of contact to creates paintings that are inspired by his thoughts, personal experiences, and his reactions to the lifestyle of everyday people found in his immediate environment. His works feature disjointed abstract figures achieved by a rhythmic flow of lines as he employs charcoal, pastel, acrylic and newsprints on a textured canvas and paper as a medium of creating his art pieces.
