Spend some time in prayer today using the following prayer guide.

Believe me, if a church does not pray, it is dead.” ~ C. H. Spurgeon

In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.” ~ John Bunyan

Prayer GuideLet’s begin with the Lord’s Prayer. The full prayer is below. First, we can pray this prayer just as it’s written. Then we can pray through each line a little more deeply and personally. Follow along.

The Lord’s PrayerFirst, pray the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13):

“Our Father in heaven,
your name be honored as holy.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not bring us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.”

Now we can pray each line a little more deeply and personally. If you are leading a family, and have kids who can read, encourage everyone to pray out loud at least once.

Our Father in heaven: You are my master, my Lord, my God, my King, and my Creator. But you ask me to pray to you as my Father. Warm my heart to you right now. Remind me of your great love for me. You have adopted me into your family, and you love me even as you love your eternal Son, Jesus. Draw my heart into prayer. Search my heart, come alongside me, awaken my soul to your presence, and hear my prayer, Father.

Your name be honored as holy: My first request is that you would be worshiped, glorified, treasured, and honored today. Fill me with love for you so that my whole day is focused on honoring you and worshiping you. Above all else, I want you to be the most important Person in my life.

Your kingdom come: Father, this world is full of kingdoms and great nations. But your kingdom is the only one that will last forever. Bring your kingdom to this world. I want your ways and your wisdom to guide this world. I trust in no kingdom but your kingdom, Father.

Your will be done: Father, I have plans for my life, but I know your plans are better. I choose what you want over what I want. Let your will be done in my life, not mine. I want my whole life to be in obedience to you.

On earth as it is in heaven: Father, in heaven all the angels worship you. They cry out, “Holy, holy, holy.” They see your beauty and glory, and they worship you with joy. The demons fear you. They flee from your greatness. Let this be true on earth as it is in heaven. Fill the world with worshipers of you and drive out all darkness and sin.

Give us today our daily bread: Father, you care about even smallest details of our lives. You want us to pray about anything and everything. You invite us to share our hearts with you and to boldly ask for your provision. (Take some time to search your heart and memory. Ask for God’s provision in anything that comes to mind. No detail is too small. He cares about every part of your life.)

And forgive us our debts: Father, we have sinned against you and others. Our sins are like debt, and they must be paid. We know that you sent your Son, Jesus, to die in our place on the cross so our sin debts could be paid. Humble me right now by reminding me that I will always need you. I will always need your forgiveness. I will never grow beyond my need for your grace and mercy. Fill me with gratitude right now by reminding me that your precious Son died to pay my sin debts. (Take some time to search your heart and memory. Confess any sins that come to your heart or mind.)

As we also have forgiven our debtors: Father, protect me from being a hypocrite who stands in condemnation over others. You have released me from my sin debts, and I have no right to hold the debts of others, as though I am perfectly righteous. Soften my heart. Teach me to forgive. Break down my pride. As I have received your mercy and grace, I also give it. (Take some time to search your heart and memory. Who are you judging or condemning in your heart? Release them from their debt, as God has released you. He will see to their discipline or judgment if they have wounded you. Give mercy and let God be God.)

And do not bring us into temptation: We need your help to walk in holiness today, Father. Help us to set our minds on what is good, beautiful, and pure. Give us hearts that long to honor you. Give us strength for the day.

But deliver us from the evil one: Through the cross and the resurrection, you have defeated Satan, sin, and death. Deliver us from Satan’s power. Destroy any hold he has on us. Protect us and sustain us through the rest of our lives.

Prayer for OthersNow that you have worked through the Lord’s Prayer, let’s finish by making intercession for others. “Intercession” means standing in the gap for others, praying on behalf of them, caring for them with our prayers.

“When Jesus saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.'” (Matthew 9:36-38)

These words were prayed by Jesus for people who were distressed and discouraged. We can pray this prayer over unbelievers, as well as believers.

Do you know anyone who is distressed? Think of people who are burdened, struggling, in a tribulation or a trial. Think of events happening in the world. Think of people in need. Who comes to your heart or mind?

Do you know anyone who is dejected? Think of people who are discouraged, worn out, tired, or lonely.

Now let’s use the following prayer to lift up them up to God:

Father, we pray for everyone who is distressed and discouraged. (Name them and their struggle). Lord, have great compassion on them. Send people and resources to help them. Surround them with your grace and draw them into your Word. Comfort them and fill them with assurance that you are their loving Shepherd. Amen.

Dear Friends,

The wind chill is going to be -7 tomorrow morning around 10am. If we held service, there is a high probability that no one would be endangered.

However, if a tire blew out on a car or anything like that, it will be seriously cold. So in light of the severe weather warnings, service tomorrow morning is cancelled.

In the morning, we will send out some prayer prompts, and instead of gathering at the church campus, we are encouraging everyone to stay warm and pray in their homes.

You are loved!

Notes on the budget before review:

-The 2024 budget was built with a very conservative income estimate. This is because we have been in our new campus for only five months.

-The church has a healthy savings position. Total cash position for the church as of Sunday March 10th is about $290,000.

-When we first moved into our new campus, we had a two-year “runway” to become financially stable. In other words, if giving (income) did not increase, we had two years before running out of money. The “runway” is now more than 8 years.

-The proposed budget includes a 4% cost-of-living raise for all church staff members. This was decided by the Treasurer and non-vocational elders. No staff members were involved in this determination.

Evan Reinert, Elder

The season of Lent begins soon. Read about how our church will observe it this year.

What is Lent?Lent is a 46-day period of time that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday. Lent season is an opportunity for Christians to identify with Jesus during His time in the wilderness. This is why during Lent season Christians practice various spiritual disciplines like fasting, prayer, study, repentance, and meditation.

Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days after His baptism (Luke 4:1-2). He was tempted by the devil and fasted during that time. This is why Lent is often referred to as a 40-day period. The other 6 days during Lent season are Sundays, and Sundays are feast days. On those days during Lent, Christians can lay down their fasting and other spiritual disciplines and enjoy God’s creation with a heart of gratitude and worship.

Why practice Lent?Throughout the history of the church, Christians have labored to practice their faith in daily, practical ways. This is important because Christianity isn’t just a system of thoughts, ideas, and beliefs. It is a way of life. Jesus does teach us to love God with our mind, but also our heart, soul, and strength (Mark 12:30).

Lent season has been practiced by Christians for centuries, all the way back to roughly 325 AD! It’s an annual opportunity for us to identify with Jesus during His days in the wilderness and to practice our faith in tangible, concrete ways.

What is Ash Wednesday and why does Lent begin on this day?Ash Wednesday is a day for Christians to reflect on the reality that we are going to die. The Bible teaches that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). We are all sinners, and we are going to die. Though it is not enjoyable to reflect on this, it is important for our souls. Psalm 90 says, “Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.

We gain wisdom by remembering we won’t live forever. It helps us prioritize our lives and maintain a meaningful purpose in all we do. Lent begins on this day because reflecting on our death prepares us for the joy of eternal life with God. Easter Sunday, at the end of Lent, is all about the joy of resurrection, but resurrection implies death – we must die before we can be resurrected.

What is Holy Saturday and why does Lent end on this day?Holy Saturday is the day after Good Friday and the day before Easter Sunday. On Good Friday, Christians remember the crucifixion of Jesus and how He died to forgive our sins. Holy Saturday, also sometimes called Silent Saturday, is remembered as the day when Jesus was in the tomb.

Lent ends on this day because the following day is Easter Sunday, and Easter is all about joy! The Lent season of fasting in the wilderness ends on Easter because that’s not a day for fasting, but joyous feasting!

This is how all these days fit together: Like Jesus, we will taste death (Ash Wednesday), we are also crucified with Christ (Good Friday), and we are buried in baptism and death with Jesus (Silent Saturday), but we will be resurrected to eternal life with Christ (Easter Sunday)!

How will we observe Lent season as a church? On Ash Wednesday the church campus will be open during the day for anyone to come and reflect on the reality of death. Psalm 90, a beautiful and powerful psalm on death and living with purpose, will scroll verse-by-verse on the screens. Soft worship music will play all day. The lights will be low. It will be a sober time for personal reflection and prayer. We want to limit distractions, so if young children come, they need to understand it’s not a time for running or playing. No one is required to come, but all are welcome up until 7pm, when Seed Youth begins.

On Good Friday we will hold a special Good Friday service that evening. More details to come.

On Easter Sunday we will heartily celebrate and sing and worship like people who are going to live forever – because in Christ we will!

During the 46-day period of Lent, we will walk through the book of Proverbs as a church. Each day we will read a chapter of Proverbs, and the reading schedule will be made available on the church app. Proverbs helps us grow in wisdom, and Lent is a season for growing in wisdom. Stay tuned for more details on that.

VisionThe Seed Church has partnered with a missionary in India to spread the Gospel of Jesus among unengaged, unreached people groups (UUPGs). Our church has “adopted” a UUPG, and we are sending a small team to support this missionary effort.

DetailsTeam size: 4 people, led by Dave Melgren (missions team leader)

When: Summer 2023

Length of Trip: 12 days. 2 days of travel there, 8 days on the field, and 2 days back. The exact dates will be selected based on the team. We will aim to find dates that best accommodate the 4-person team.

Cost: About $1,250. The full cost is $2,500, but the church is covering half because we believe in the value of this work!

Goal: Work alongside local church leaders and a translator to share the Gospel, and hopefully make contact with our UUPG.
