Reading into the scripture has to be done with care. Where the scripture is silent, I believe we have to be sure not to add beyond what God has said. There is opportunity to infer but not to add to or take away. What is “thus saith the Lord?”

We are sure to experience a little pain and discomfort in this life. Our bodies grow older and begin to fail. As children, we feel invincible and as a result, we take chances that our bodies can't cash in on and we end up injured. As we age, we try to be young again and pay the price with aches and pains once again. If there's any benefit to pain, it reminds us that we are still alive. Jesus suffered immensely on the cross of Calvary - well beyond anything we could imagine or will ever experience. We deserved the suffering of the cross but He paid the price for us that we would not have to endure such punishment for our sin. As a result, we can accept the gift of eternal life, a life free of pain and full of peace as long as we accept Christ as Savior. Pain will eventually give way to peace for those who believe.

So many times we rely on our own strength to accomplish daily living. We work our finger to the bone trying to be all that we can be; we should work hard. The people of God live with a different mindset and have a different understanding of life than that of the world. We see tomorrow differently and as such, we see today differently. The reason is that we have been given a gift to see us through the days ahead. The celebration of the announcement of the birth of Jesus was something to behold. A babe leaping in the womb, kings, traveling distances, shepherds, shepherds hearing from an angel... and then the birth... may gathered to see and to bring gifts. But think of Mary. It says that she pondered in her heart. Can you imagine all that she was thinking? All that she was imagining? Maybe you and I can do the same - stop and ponder in our hearts what Jesus, living inside of us, can stir up inside of each one of us amidst the noisy world.

We are promised brighter days - but the promise didn't necessarily when that would be. We have so many familiar paths that we walk When darkness comes, we have to take each step carefully because the darkness impairs our vision. Regardless of how well we know the way, darkness, storms, fogginess, and rain, blur our vision. The same can be said about our spiritual walk as well. We never like to see our loves ones walk out the door but we know that sometimes that has to happen. Kids grow up and they build their own families. And yes, family and friends die and we miss them. Departing is hard to handle. Jesus himself in fact, told the disciples He had to go so the Holy Spirit could come and eventually, set the stage for His return! Leaving in this case was a good thing!

Of course there are the obvious emotions of crying and laughing but even then, they may be shrouded in another deeper emotion we do not understand. What we desire in life really tells a lot about who we are as a person. How much we desire to accumulate shows our priorities. As we go through life, we strive for the best but sometimes acquiring "the best" may take time and effort and yes, patience and waiting. We must make sure we obtain what we need honestly and appropriately; rushing through life and making hasty decision usually leads to bad and costly decisions. Life will throw us curve balls and difficult times and test us but we need to step back and take a deep breath before making choices we will regret.

It has to do with warm air I believe but regardless, they are pretty cool to watch. This world we live it is full of mysteries - unfortunately, one thing is not a mystery. Mankind's actions are not getting any better. The end of the story tells of the fall of man and it tells of the God who is in control of the whirlwind of time that we live. He's in control and we must not lose sight of that one fact.

Anyone, including pastors and preachers, who tell you otherwise, are hiding behind a lie. The truth is so important to the times in which we live. And yes, the truth is not always pleasant do not always enjoyable but as the Bible says the truth shall make you free. John saw things that were not imaginable to us but yet he was told to share both the sweet and the bitter. Practice makes perfect. Ever heard that statement? When it comes to athletics or something technical in nature, I believe that to be the case as best as is humanly possible. The implication is that repetition brings about improvement. Hearing something over and over again usually brings about remembrance. We have a lot of questions that may or may not have answers. Many will try to give answers. The friends of Job tried to answer the issues of the trials of Job but they were way off base. We never know the conversations of heaven and what may be happening in the "mind of God". But by faith, we trust that He knows best.

"Proof is necessary to believe" is the philosophy of the world. Our kids are being taught that scientific proof is necessary for us to believe in creation and that simply having faith in something isn't enough. Faith is the substance (tangible) of things (material) hoped for, the evidence (proof) of things (material) not seen. (Words added for emphasis). We have to show the generation to come what faith really is and doubt cannot be a part of that equation.

Being busy is not always being productive. This is true in the workplace and it is also true in the ministry. We need to live an active life as a Christian and do the works of the ministry but we can’t be so busy that we soon our wheel, accomplishing nothing. Our focus has to be on the works for the Lord and not for man and self.

As teenagers we despised rules. But they were necessary for our safety and now as parents we see that a lot more clearly. As adults today, we don’t necessarily like all the government oversight many times, the rules are for our safety. The Bible, the rulebook of mankind, is for our ultimate safety. If we follow after God‘s word, we are sure to be eternally safe!

2020 led to the calling of God’s people to pray. To seek God is a mighty way and to turn from our terrible ways and to ask for forgiveness that He may show mercy. It’s the family of God that He calls upon to pray - not the world. We can’t blame the world for God not answering - it’s us - His people- who should be seeking and asking!

The City that never sleeps - the name given to New York City. It's always active. Such is the life of so many. Never any down time. Our lives are so full of activity, that we never find time to just rest - to rest the mind, to rest the soul, to rest the body. When it comes to our sin, we have a new rest that we can find, far better than anything the Old Testament Saints could ever imagine as they worked the old sacrificial system to obtain a religious standard. Christ is our rest; He takes upon Himself the price of our sin and pays the price - He bears the load that we may rest from our sin.

Not many people are left handed so they can been seen at a disadvantage in this predominately right handed world. The world dwells on strengths and looks down upon weaknesses. However, whether we want to admit it or not, we all have weaknesses, no matter how powerful or "important" we are. From a president to a pauper, we can all be used by God and made strong in our perceived weakness.

John was called the beloved. He was the one that was there at the cross. He was the one found in the bosom of Jesus time and time again. John knew what it meant to be with Jesus and a very intimate and personal way. He knew what it meant to abide and to be in fellowship and you and I can learn to be both as well.

This year has been a challenge from the perspective of socializing and getting together and showing affection one toward another. A handshake is to be avoided, a hug is frowned upon and we are to do our best to keep our distance. That's counter intuitive for the church and for the family. We need togetherness! We should desire togetherness as a family and as the family of God in the house of God.

God’s word is forever settled in heaven. He said that in Psalm 119 verse 89. He also said in Titus chapter 1 that he cannot lie. So you see the truth is godliness and godliness is the truth. This time of year brings lots of memories and most surround the time at family gatherings were gifts were given and received. I’m thankful that we serve a God that knows our every need and is ready to give if we will just ask, seek, and knock that he will hear an answer according to what our needs are. Parents have the instinct to be on guard for the children and to protect them against all harm. Husbands should be so for their family as a whole. The military has personnel stationed to watch for activity that might endanger the installation at which they are stationed. God in turn, has set watchman for our souls. They come in the form of preachers and pastors, Sunday school teachers and yes, I believe in the Christian leaders of the home - mom and dad... we live in a time when the truth needs to be shared and in doing so, we are watching for the souls those we love.

We sing the Stars Spangled Banner... we say the Pledge to the Christian Flag at Vacation Bible School. We fly the flag of the United States with honor and we display the Christian flag in our churches in remembrance of Christ. Every day though, we have a flag flying over us that we can't necessarily see but we sure can feel - that's the Love of God above and around us each day that we should never forget - the banner of Love we should cherish so much.

You and I call break the law unless you can tell me that you never go over the speed limit by one mile per hour! The Bible speaks heavily of the Law as given my Moses. Being without someone we love is very difficult. We miss them. We want to be back with them. Parents would give their lives for their children to continue theirs; they would do all they could out of love to protect them. Husbands are to love their wives to the point of giving their life for them as Christ did for the church. Christ loved us before we ever thought of loving him. We have had passions of the past and loves we would never let go of. But, as a Christian, we should love Christ above anything or anyone and the Bible has tough scriptures to point us in that direction. For us to fully understand Calvary, we have to understand a love greater than any love we've ever known. Then we will understand the call to forsake all and follow Christ.

Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6. The last thing we need to do is turn a child away when he has a question. Jesus taught that to us as well but with a much deeper spiritual meaning. We are to approach God as a little children, childlike, needy, and humble. Not as the know it all Pharisees of the Bible.

The Bible says to pray without ceasing given a sense of it being something regularly obtainable before God. But I know that that praying without ceasing is more of a mindset than an act. Seeking God is not always easy and it’s not his fault but ours. But in the day that we live, knee time just want it’s gonna take to push through the times that we live in the situations that keep ramping up before us. We have the opportunity to boldly approach the throne but we are the one that hinders that; not God. God is so much bigger than all of us. He’s so much bigger than all that we can know and understand. The Bible says the world could not contain all the books that could be written about who Christ is and what he did when he walked this earth. Our minds would have difficulty comprehending all that God is. But I don’t believe he intends for us to have that. I believe the garden of Eden proves that. But what he does want us to know is that he loves us and gave his life for us that we may have eternal life with him. That is one piece of knowledge that is within our understanding.

I remember a soap opera that mom and my grandmother used to watch religiously. It began like this, “like sand through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives.“ That specifically makes reference to time. We see the clock, we know that it goes TickTock all day long, and we know that we are allotted a certain amount of “time“. But understanding time can be very difficult for us humans to do; God created time and is outside of time and is not bound by time. There was a “time“ before God said in the beginning. When we hear the word beginning that implies the start. But God was before… Again, our minds cannot comprehend all there is to know about God so by faith we move forward and hopefully use our times wisely.

No one likes to hear the phrase “learning patience”. Most will associate developing patience incurs difficulties and troubles to build that patience. Christian suffering is something this world does not grasp or understand. As the world does not understand the benefits of suffering we do not understand many of the things of this world. We are at opposition with the things of this world and our Christian suffering is a result of a world not understanding the ways of faith and trusting in a Sacior that we’ve never met.

When people enter into our home, they come through a particular door. Now we are familiar with all of our doorways in our home but visitors sometimes just can’t find the right one to get out! Satan knows our every weakness that we voice and express. But he doesn’t know those that are internal to our self. You see, God knows us inside and out where as the devil, he can only react to what we have revealed. As a result, many of our Temptations brought on because of what we revealed to the devil himself. And when he comes to attack, he will go after our every weakness. Temptations have to be battled but they have to be battled spiritually, not physically and the only way to do that is to watch and pray, and to fire back with the word of God.

No matter how young or old or anywhere in between we may be, the Bible is alive and can speak to us each and everyone in our own way. When we read Psalm 23, we can see that it’s about the Lord being with us throughout life journey. We all know that sometimes the punishment doesn’t match the crime. I’m actually thankful that the grace of God withholds punishment from me knowing that I have sinned against him time and time again. So you see, Grace is extended and is extended along with the mercy of God. Judgment could easily be passed on each and everyone of us today. But while the love of God is being extended and shown across this world, grace is given and the sentence is being withheld. You and I were sentenced to death for our sins with the grace of God showed up and saved our souls from the judgment of God for our sins. You and I can learn to show Grace even when it’s not merited and withhold judgment for you and I will be judged by the same judgment ourselves. Give grace and give grace abundantly

2020 has been a year of great division. It’s really sad to see people disagree with each other in so many ways and the time that we’re living. And the disagreements are manifested in our words. Our body is designed to work together to maintain a stable state of being. You and I however, get out of sync between body soul and spirit. Our tongue and our heart are intricately joint spiritually and many times malfunction! Our words can be so powerful but at the same time very destructive. Our ears are very beneficial to us and need to be used far more than our tongue. It’s our words that can get us in trouble really quick and many times we do not think before we speak. Many times what we blame our memory for, is actually us not listening to begin with! We may be so concerned with what we need to say, that we simply just do not hear what the other person is saying. I believe this is something we all can work on.

No one likes to “be put to the test”. We feel like that were being judged especially when it happens by man. But I can tell you that our faith is on trial every day. And sometimes our faith has to be tried by fire. Difficult times come in the Lord may be working on us and through us to show others his glory and power by our difficult times. As the three Hebrew boys withstood the flames and were rescued by their faith in God (Christ), so do we at times have to push through the flames and come through unscathed.

I believe we all desire to achieve 100% accuracy and everything that we set out to do in our life or job. But we all fall short of that knowing that none of us are perfect. We should take care not to judge others for their falling short of 100% because we know the Bible says for all have send and come short of the glory of God. You see, 100% accuracy is set at Jesus when it comes to our Christian walk. We should strive but we know that we fall short. Others do as well and we should strive to help put them back on track when we can but without being judgmental knowing that we too will be judged by the same law. Let’s work together to help each other strive for the hundred percent mark but give mercy and grace when we miss.

Gods word may be difficult at times but with the power of the Holy Spirit we can work through those hard times and begin to see God‘s word be knit together and unfold before us in a way that we’ve never seen it before. To do so, we have to search the Scriptures and we should do so when it comes to understanding the division that the truth may cause. Each of us has a time in life for a major change may take place. It may be moving away from home. It may be getting married. It may be a job or a change in jobs. Either way change comes and sometimes it’s very difficult to deal with. But we need to make one major change: that’s our choice to follow Christ. But when we make that decision and we are changed, that’s only the beginning of the changing process as a Christian. You and I have to make decisions and choices every day and so we really have to change a little at a time because we truly are a work in progress. Allow God to intervene in your life so that you may make changes that will be to the good and glorify the Father in heaven.

Leadership. What is your definition? Good leaders versus effective leaders? Effective leaders will convince others to follow them even if it’s down the wrong path! One example? Pharaoh. He was effective, but not good! Who is both? I believe Christ will fit the bill for being both good and effective when it comes to leadership. He said I am the way the truth and the life… So he’s going to lead us in the paths of righteousness. The crown of glory is waiting for those Christian leaders who stepped up and took the reins and lead the church and the Christian in the direction of sound biblical teaching. What will the next generation be when it comes to leaders?I believe a lot of that is up to the leaders of today.

The fourth of the five crowns of which we are speaking of is the crown of life. You see, if we make the right choice to follow Christ, we will have eternal life. But I also know that as we endure the Temptations and difficulties of this life, Christ will have a specific award for us. It is the crown of life. But it takes us to endure, to push through in hard times, in times of criticism. So, let’s ensure “ten days”, that periods of struggles we all face and receive the crown of life - eternal life.

Every day we should seek after what’s best for our lives for our families lives. But I’m afraid sometimes we’re looking in the wrong places what what we need. Good news is always something we desire. The world we live in today doesn’t always bring that good news. But I know for a fact that the saving of a soul is some of the best news that you could ever hear! Our job as Christians- no our desire as Christians should be to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ and as a result, there’s yet another crown at the end of the race - The crown of rejoicing or, the soul winners crown. The soul is far more important that the crown so let’s strive to tell the story that someone may come to accept Christ today!

We all have many functions and jobs in this life. Really there’s none more important than that of friend. But we also wear the hats of Daddy, Mama, employee, Christian, etc. This reminded me of a topic in the Bible about crowns. The Bible speaks of five crowns or awards that we will be given for our Christian service. One in particular is the incorruptible crown or the victors crown. This speaks of our desire to know and to give God’s word to others and that will take work and discipline. All describes it as running a race and that we should strive for the prize at the end of the run.

We all sometimes wake up with an attitude of “not today”. Our minds are just not thinking in the right order and our bodies don’t seem to want to follow. We waiver in our thoughts and our actions usually because of something emotional but it could also be physical. Either way we are just sometimes unstable in our actions. But we serve a God that is constant. Unwavering. Truthful. God continued His promises to Moses when Joshua took over as leader. Nothing around Moses or Joshua deterred the Lord from keeping His plan; so you and I serve an unwavering dependable God who doesn’t “wake up” some days on the wrong side of the bed!

There are 24 hours in a day of which part of it we will sleep part of it we will choose to sit down and have a meal and part of it we will be at work or at school. How we divide that 24 hours up is really a personal decision. What we do with the time that has been given us is so important because we really don’t know we have left. How will we use the gift that God has given us at another day?

No one likes to be called foolish. But the world has a habit of seeing all that is of Christ as foolishness. Too many it just doesn’t make sense to follow after something they cannot see. Proof. Evidence. They are looking for something they can see in touch. They believe in the things of this world and try to accumulate as much as they can. All the possessions of the world will never compare to the saving of my soul by the cross of Calvary.

I encourage you to go outside some nights and just stand and look up and gaze at the stars. But as you look, understand that even though physically we can’t reach those celestial bodies, we can reach the one who created them! God is never so far away that our spiritual eyes can’t see him and never so far away that our spiritual voices can’t reach him. We have to look beyond the physical and see the spiritual. I will lift up line unto the hills... hills that are beyond the physical ones that we can see you today. God is there… Let’s not forget and look past him.

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord… This was said after the Lord said and it repented the Lord that he had made man. I wonder how disappointing we are to God in today. How blessed we are in this country that we may own not just one Bible but many. So many places on this planet or prevented from having the Word of God in the possession. People have died because they carried the Bible with them. Missionaries have been excommunicated from the country because they were bringing Bibles into the country. There are no substitute for the real thing! Medical science has attempted to re-create the life substances found in our blood. But no matter how hard they try they cannot duplicate the original! The Bible is clear that the life of the flesh is in the blood. If you prick the finger of all humans, you will find the same color blood. This shows there’s really only one race on this planet and it’s the human race. Christ shed his blood that we all may have eternal life.

The word love is mentioned over 400 times in God’s word. It’s mentioned 78 times in the books that John wrote reflecting almost 20% of the times love is spoken of in the Bible. The Bible says that God is love and that if we love God, we will love our brothers and sisters in Christ and even our enemies. Love is powerful but love has to have action. We saw the love of many in action in the wars of this world that have secured our freedoms. But there is no greater love than that which was shown on Calvary when Christ died for all of man.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1. So many times, we want proof of where God is leading us. And we should be so glad that God is long suffering by time and time again being very patient with us along the way. Gideon was such a man and he wanted proof! May our faith increase and our doubt decrease as we walk this life seeking God’s will.

Man will always rank humanity with those being in prominent positions and those being in lower positions with an organization that are considered to be the true workers. But when it comes to gods work, we all are equal! It’s all about spreading the news, the good news, the gospel of Jesus Christ. And we all hold that responsibility as Christians to give the world Christ. All we do should be done in the name of Jesus and we should try to do it our best and to rely on him for the ultimate help to serve.

No matter how we may try, we can’t hide anything from God. He knows it all inside and out. But sometimes we think we can tuck something away deep down inside and leave it there for our self. God will usually then send something into our life that will cause us to dig deep and plow up that which we wanted to remain covered

I’m sure most of us will agree that life is sometimes like a race. Hustle, bustle, constantly on the go… But one of the important things of that race is that you know where to start. We have to know the beginning… God’s word shows us the beginning of it all when it comes to life and who we are. There’s some instructions about a new beginning, a new life that has to be found in Christ.

Depending on our personality, loneliness may be a good thing or it may be a thing that is very depressing! Some people like to be alone but others can’t seem to do without the company of others. Regardless, loneliness is something we all have to deal with as do we have to deal with trials and troubles. David, Peter, and John, all dealt with it but I believe God was working on them during those times of separation. Maybe God is trying to separate you so that he could work on you.

Finding rest in this sleepless world is very difficult to do. Life is fast paced and sometimes overwhelming and tiring. Finding time to be still it’s very difficult to do. God wants us to find rest in Him.

Many of the sayings that we have today come directly from the Bible or they are patterned after scripture. One saying that I have always used is I’d rather be a live chicken than a dead duck meaning I’d rather be a little timid about things and called “chicken” for maybe running from fear than to hang around irresponsibly and be in danger. The Bible says that it’s better to be a living dog than a dead lion. We can have an influence while we’re living and can make changes occur but once this life is over, those opportunities are gone. Live life today while God is still giving you the opportunity to do.

Our eyes are an amazing organ they allow us to see things day in and day out. The Bible speaks of God watching over us and seeing everything that we do. Let us never take our physical or spiritual vision for granted.

Waiting. It’s a very difficult thing to do. I’m sure all of us have had issues with patience in the past and may have issues today! Regardless, God wants us to learn to wait on him so that he can move and he can do his work in a mighty way if we will just watch and wait.

Today, let us rejoice knowing that we have the privilege to walk through the doors of the church of our choosing without fear of persecution or prosecution. It’s not like that in other places yet we take walking through the doors of the church for granted.

Every generation seems to criticize the one before. But there is a responsibility of each generation to carry forward those things which are important. One thing is for sure, the love of God needs to carry forward from generation to generation.

We are so blessed by God in so many ways. One particular way, is that we are given spiritual gifts. God has chosen us for a work and for us to be successful in that work, we have to know what those gifts are. Everyone has at least one; find yours and use it to his glory.

It goes without saying that we have a lot of questions as we go through this life. One of them is very open ended and we asked the question why? I’m not sure we’ll have the answer to that this side of heaven for everything that we do and everything that we ask but I can rest assured knowing that God knows why that’s really all that matters.

Scatterbrained! I have experienced it and I’m sure you have too. We have to sometimes grab a hold of all that’s happening around us, slow down, and maybe even reboot! A renewing of our mind is necessary to shut out the things of this world. If we want to know what the perfect will of God is, then we’ve got to set aside our will and everything around us and try to hear what He has to say for us during the reboot!

Regardless of your work schedule and regardless of what you do for a living, stress comes during the week. There’s no better place to look than to the Lord and in his word for that piece that we need wind stress reaches its peak. In fact, it might be better we search out God’s Word on a regular basis before the peak ever occurs.
