Tear Out The Tags, The Podcast: Recent Episodes

Bee Evans

Welcome to the Tear Out The Tags podcast, where you learn to remove the labels that are holding you back. Your life is increasingly defined by simple words that are meant to categorize you. These words are turned into hashtags, making you feel stuck with a limited definition of what you can be in this world. Tags, though helpful online, are ineffective at fully describing how big and extraordinary you are.

Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is BEE! This podcast went on a season of life that felt like a roller coaster with me. It's changed quite a bit and I'm using these first few episodes to tell you who I am and why I am passionate about labels.

Also, sadly, I'm breaking up with some of you in todays episode. Not everyone is going to want to be a part of a community where we talk openly about different perspectives in life. If that's you and you're adament that only a few labels matter in this world, please lose my number. XO

HELLO!!! My name is Bee Andreen. You have no idea how difficult that is to say. I've been married twice and now... unfortunately, divorced twice. Through the challenges and triumphs that I've faced, I've learned many great things about myself.

One of those things is how important it is for me to capture labels that are handed to me by others and decide whether or not they belong to me.

I'd like to re-introduce myself, with my new AND original last name in tow. This is a space where we will have hard conversations about the tags we place on ourselves and how those labels are defined.

I'd LOVE to have you on the show. If you have a story about a time in your life where you've been labeled harshly or inaccurately reach out to me at bee@embldnlabel.com

Thank you for all of your prayers, positive thoughts, helpful reach outs and support as I quietly deal with my entire world falling apart as I put the pieces back together.

Do you have a story that is BURNT IN YOUR BRAIN?!

On today's episode I share a story that was sent to me from a Tear Out the Tags listener.

It's a story of ignored intuition, marital struggle, abuse and overcoming the brokenness that was eventually the result.

View Details

How do you define intuition?

Did you know that there are 4 types of intuition?

Sunil Godse explains this complex gut feeling that you might be getting as you navigate through your life. I’ve ignored my intuition many times in my life and have learned to talk myself out of listening to my intuition out of a virtue of self-doubt and not wanting to upset people around me.

After making a series of bad decisions, with one leading to a friend being shot and killed, Sunil Godse spent thousands of hours on research and interviews to find out that the reason we waste time making bad decisions is because we ignore our intuition, a subconscious phenomenon that we are all born with that helps us make the right decision at the right time in any situation we find ourselves in.

Sunil developed a seven step process that shows you how to sharpen your intuition so that the only decisions you make are the right ones in any situation that move your life forward.

I went to a personal branding workshop several years ago where I learned that personal branding includes the practice of curation.

What does this mean?

It means that personal branding experts teach people how to carefully select the parts of their lives that they will share with you, the customer.

While we all aren’t comfortable sharing all of the struggles of our lives with just anybody, it also feels really gross to me that people share only a curated version of their lives in an effort to manipulate their audience or customer into liking them. What bothers me more than curated lives displayed on social media and online is when those same people claim to be authentic.

This entire week of episodes on the podcast surround the word and definition of the word authenticity. We had a special guest on the show last Wednesday who started us on the journey of this subject.

au-then-tic-i-ty |n.| The quality of being authentic

au-then-tic |adj.| Of undisputed origin; genuine

gen-u-ine |adj.| Truly what something is said to be; authentic

What in the actual F*ck?!?!

This feels like a sick cycle of chasing something that can’t be defined. What came first, the chicken or the egg, haha.

Authentic points to genuine and genuine points back to authentic. So what is it AND how do you know if you possess authenticity?

Last week, Erika Gerdes made me fall in love with the word authentic after learning to resent and repel this word in my life.

Today you’ll get to discover your own definition of authenticity, authentic and genuine as you discover what may be broken about the definition you currently have.

Do you feel like there's a person or people in your life that are actually quite calculated and sometimes manipulative when giving compliments?

Today's show is a conversation about ingenuine compliments and how to combat them.

View Details

According to this article, there are four reasons that might cause you to grow uncomfortable when someone compliments you, leading you to deflect.

  1. Have Low Self Esteem

  2. Your Self-Image Doesn't Line Up

  3. You're Uncomfortable with Big Expectations

  4. You Want to be Humble

You may agree or disagree with these four reasons and you may have a few more that you might add to the list if you yourself have a tendency to deflect compliments.

The important question for you, if you are someone who deflects when given a compliment is, what are you gaining from deflecting?

and

What is happening to the person giving the compliment when you deflect?

Today's episode will promote thoughtful discussion and discovery for you and the people in your world surrounding the subject of compliments.

I've struggled with the word authenticity and what it means to me because it can be such a buzz word in the personal development space. It seems like the more we develop and grow as a person the more elusive that #authenticself can be.

My special guest on the podcast today reshaped the way that I look at the word authentic and helped me discover a new definition that has led to some really amazing discovery.

Erika is an authenticity advocate speaker, writer and coach whose mission is to make the world better, kinder, and more joyful. She is the designer of The Art of Undoing, which helps people undo who they think they should be and unlock who they are to become.

Erika is a former global business executive at Google, where she worked for 12 years before leaving at the height of her career, as a single mom, to empower people to embrace their authenticity and amplify their impact.

If you are seeking and understanding the true you that you are today AND that you are yearning to become in your future, this conversation is for you.

You're so...

There are a thousand words that could come after these two simple words. Depending on the person you're observing, you may choose a word that has to do with their external appearance, the conversation you have with them or something you learned.

Recently, I noticed a woman wearing a beautiful outfit walking out of a nail salon. After commenting on her outfit and how ON POINT she looked, I realized that what I was trying to compliment was her #confidence! I ended up telling her that after giving her a couple of other compliments. I started thinking about this interaction after she acknowledged and thanked me for the comments. In fact, she walked over to my car and said, "you MADE my DAY!". It's rare that we compliment people for their confidence but why? Why isn't it more commonplace to just tell someone that their energy is refreshing and magnetic?

I challenge you to compliment someone this week on their confidence and see what kind of reaction you receive. Notice the people around you and notice people that you're drawn to becauseof their confidence.

Then notice how you feel if they receive it well. What did it make you feel?

If you are taking me up on this challenge let me know how it went at hello@embldnlabel.com or shoot me a DM on Instagram @tearoutthetags.

A message about compliments..

We did a pole last week on Instagram asking you how you feel about compliments, what compliments you like receiving AND do you have a tendency to deflect compliments. Today is day 1 of our weeks worth of conversations about compliments. Today we pick apart the idea that you may have a bad habit of not hearing compliments that you regularly hear because they become templated or common to you. If that's you, do you have the same tendency when it comes to criticism or do you store criticism more willingly?

We would love to get YOU involved in the conversation. Please email me at hello@embldnlabel.com or send me a message on Instagram www.instagram.com/tearoutthetags

Think of the most important person in your life...

Now imagine that you had walked right past that person because you had your eyes on your cell phone, you had headphones in your ears or you were too busy to notice them.

Everyday, we have opportunities to interact with perfect strangers and we forget to look for the special ones that are meant to stick around in our lives. We literally choose to walk by extraordinary people everyday because we are living life in fast forward or we forget to recognize the blank spaces that we have open in our own lives that are just waiting to be filled with new mentorship.

James Norris, with Handi Capable Fitness, is a prime example of #everydayextraordinary. If I had been unlucky in my life and had tripped past his extraordinary story and inspiring journey, I would have missed out on learning, friendship, inspiration, encouragement, laughter and many other extraordinary people that James has introduced me to.

James entered this beautiful world wearing the tag #extraordinary AND immediately began building #resilience as he learned to grow thrive with #cerebralpalsy.

In today's podcast episode 158. Everyday Extraordinary, James shares his heart and his truth with you vulnerably, while he also compassionately shatters assumptions that you might have of him.

"Oh my gosh, you're sooooo pretty", they say.

This is a compliment that seems to be thrown around regularly and a word that holds very little substance as it's defined differently through the eyes of the person handing out the tag.

What do you think of the words pretty and beautiful?

Have you ever looked up the definitions?!?!

Beautiful

(n) 1. a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.

"I was stuck by her beauty"

(n) 2. a beautiful woman

Do you know what the antonym of beautiful woman is...

#UGLY WOMAN

That feels pretty gross to me, all together. The only problem is the definition of pretty is just as bad, if not worse!

Pretty

(n) 1. an attractive thing, typically a pleasing but unnecessary accessory.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOPE, no thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are two words that you might hand to the woman you love or words that, as a woman you're used to hearing. Even worse, these might be words that you yearn to hear as a woman.

BUT YOU'RE SO MUCH MORE than beautiful and pretty.

What is the most extraordinary compliment you've ever received?

View Details

When someone compliments you do you receive it?

I've noticed that compliments are commonly...

Templated and basic (you're pretty, smart, helpful, fun)

I also notice that people generally say "THANK YOU", and quickly and uncomfortably move onto the next subject. It's like they don't even hear the compliment. Is this because compliments have become so generic?

It's likely that you are familiar with a common templated compliment that you regularly receive. It's also possible that that compliment has become virtually meaningless to you. Perhaps you've never stored it and received it because you,

  1. Don't believe it

OR

  1. Don't care if people see that in you

Perhaps, you are yearning to be seen in a way that people rarely verbally recognize.

This week I received a compliment from a stranger turned friend that will be with me forever.

"You Distill People", she said. Ugh, it sat on my heart like an butterfly lands on a beautiful yellow rose.

Listen to today's podcast episode to find out why this compliment had so much meaning to me and why I will be attaching this tag proudly.

Did you know that it's not true??

Bulls don't really get angry when they see red,

there's no evidence that a goldfish only has a 3 second memory,

and BONUS, you don't actually eat 8 spiders per year while sleeping!

There are a number of #untruths that you learned throughout life that you believed were TRUE!! Tim McGraw released a song in 2014 called Who Are They. In this song he talks about all of the things you were told throughout life.

They said...

But, who are they???!?!

Your entire life was spent proving people wrong, decidedly resisting the opinions and judgements of others. How much of that mumbo jumbo did you store? How much are you holding inside of you simply because it was repeated over and over and over again throughout your life?

When you set out to prove them wrong, are you really proving others wrong OR are you proving yourself wrong? Are you overcoming the voices that are taking space in your head?

Do you wear the tag #peoplepleaser?

If so, does it actually serve you in your life?

This is a tag that I wore most of my life and I didn't realize...

  1. That I was wearing it at all and...

  2. What it was costing me personally...

I don't know if I would've recognized the label within myself  throughout my life but there are many moments where I realize that my tendency to please is taking over my ability to enjoy an experience OR even more importantly to show up with authority for myself when the experience violates my core values.

Do you wear the tag #peoplepleaser? Is it costing you a part of YOU to focus on pleasing others?

Are you a #buffer?

I made a podcast episode today where I discussed the fact that I'm really bad at giving myself a buffer with creating content for my podcast. I really need a few days after travel or during a busy time in my life in order to get re-organized and get my thoughts put back together. When I don't give myself a buffer and some extra time, I find that I tend to completely lose momentum on the podcast all together.

While I was making the episode, I looked up the definition of buffer, which is something I do quite often on the show. Buffer, as a verb, is lessen or moderate the impact of (something). Yep! That's exactly what I'm referring to when I say that I need a buffer in order to keep my cadence on the podcast.

Now, while I was looking up that definition, I saw that the word had a definition for noun as well. It means a person or thing that prevents incompatible or antagonistic people or things from coming into contact with or harming each other.

WOW! I realized that the tag #buffer pops out in my life in multiple ways. Check out this episode to see if you are also wearing the tag buffer in your life.

Freeze....

Don't move...

Imagine for a moment that you're in the middle of a bad dream and you learn that you are a criminal who is robbing a convenient store. Right around the moment that you realize it's you who is breaking the law you realize that you are surrounded by police officers who are holding you at gun point. The only word that you hear is... FREEZE!!

You can't imagine moving a muscle because you realize you're in trouble but you can't remember why you would've been robbing a convenient store in the first place.

You wake from your dream to find that you're stuck in the middle of your own life because some of the tag you're wearing are labeled with the roles you play in your life and these tags, can't be simply removed. You realize that the dream was a representation of your current life circumstance and the fact that everyone who you love, including yourself, is being faced with a major struggle.

... all at the same time!

You're feeling spread too thin and you're scrambling to satisfy the needs of everyone who you are important to.

You're having trouble reaching yourself because you're completely frozen, thoughtfully trying to figure out how to move again.

Details matter...

or

Do they?

Someone recently told me that I'm a very #perceptive person. I picked it up as a positive tag and also feel very proud to be considered a person who has insight, discernment and observant, all synonyms of perceptive. Although I gladly picked up this tag as an extremely generous compliment, I also am keenly aware of how my ability to pick up nuance and detail also has a tendency to cause problems in my life.

Today's episode on Tear Out the Tags, The Podcast is about the tag #perceptive. Click the link in my bio to check out the episode.

Tags like #outcast and #outsider often come with a negative definition. You may have experienced walking through a season in your life or many seasons in your life where you just felt like you didn't belong and perhaps didn't even want to "fit in".

Each and every one of you was born to stand out but so much time is spent in your younger years trying to figure out why you feel like such an outsider... Why people don't seem to have so much trouble understanding you.

When I look back at the times where I felt like that, it was because I was SOOOO busy exploring and changing that it was almost impossible for most people to understand me and accept me for who I was. After all, the ME deep inside was still and always will be being developed.

Imagine that as an outcast, you get to be a little bird that is soaring above all of your life experiences. Landing only long enough to perch and breath in that particular life season. In some ways that makes the tag #outcast seem like a positive as you figure out how to enjoy the freedom to fly into new life experience.

Fight, Flight or Freeze...

Which one do you defer to when you are faced with conflict?

I often tell people that when I'm faced with conflict I defer to tears, emotion and embarrassment OR I will rip your face off. Now, I like to think I'm joking when I saw that I will rip your face off BUT I do have an edgy side that I've had to work really hard to soften. As I've worked on my FIGHT or FLIGHT tendencies, I've noticed that I also have a tendency to land in the FREEZE zone. Completely paralyzed by the avoidance of conflict that I just don't want to deal with so that I can protect myself from the fight and flight habits that I've worked SOOOO hard to break.

This new freeze stage that I've discovered has unfortunately led to a habit of being indecisive so I have to carefully and consciously attach the tag decisive in order to move forward through and past the conflict without showing up as someone I don't want to be.

What defensive space do you enter when you are faced with conflict? Fight, Flight or Freeze?

I didn't lose my voice... I muted my own microphone!!

When I was a sophomore in high school, I majorly botched the National Anthem at a high school Varsity football game. I actually sang the same line of the song twice and it was incredibly embarrassing. Within a few days of handling the teasing and mocking that ensued, I decided that I would never EVER sing again in public as long as I live. That might sound #dramatic but I made that decision and didn't sing again in public until I was thirty three years old.

Often, when I tell this story, I tell people that this embarrassing high school memory was the start of losing my voice. However, as I was thinking about this memory today, I realized that I didn't lose my voice... I muted my own microphone. I actually made the decision to mute my own voice and the thoughts, ideas and talent that I had to share with the world.

Have you ever muted your own mic?

He said tapped out feels the same way, like you're so strained and full of tags that you just want to give up.

In this episode he also talks about wearing the tag #benchwarmer and how it kept him from chasing a lot of his goals, even as a adult. I think this perspective relates to so many men and also to athletes who have stepped through the competitive nature of sports.

Do you ever feel like a burden to others?

There are a lot of ways that the tag #burden can show up in life. You can feel like an

emotional burden...

physical burden...

financial burden...

mental burden...

energy burden...

...and there are probably many other ways that we can feel that we burden others.

I recently have been handed a new life challenge that has caused some unique conversations around my household and suddenly I'm very fearful that my husband see's me as a #burden. Side note, he doesn't, but it's one of my greatest fears particularly within a relationship that someone who loves me could see me as a heavy weight to carry.

I have a few friends that are dealing with the tag #burden in other ways as well and I talk about that here on the show today.

I'd love to hear from you about the #burden tag in your life and what you're doing to tear out that tag!

Today's my 35th birthday! What a year it has been! Never in my life would I have believed you if you told me that this year would've looked like it did. I started 2020 with an idea called Tear Out the Tags and here we are a year and some change later with that idea coming to life.

I never was the person who thought about the legacy I was leaving behind, except maybe the fact that I wanted to leave behind important values and love for my children. Now, I have such a desire to wear the tag memorable because this message matters so much to me and I believe it could matter to the world when it gets into the hands of people that need it.

Today's podcast episode is about being #memorable and is a bit silly in honor of my big birthday.

I was blessed to host James Norris on my podcast today, the recording will be airing soon. As I was preparing to introduce this amazing human being, I realized that all of the labels he wears that represent the roles he plays in life don't do him justice AT ALL. Though he's accomplished some unbelievable things, he's simply so much more then one can be tagged.

I decided that James is #everydayextraordinary, meaning that he's one of few people who are walking around in the world just waiting to help out a human in need. He lives his life to champion for others and does an incredible job of doing just that. If you aren't paying attention to the people around you who are everyday extraordinary, those people will walk right out of your life as quickly as they arrived. Make sure you're not focused on people with perceived importance because you'll miss the most important relationships you've ever had.

James sent me an amazing gift in the mail today with my favorite scripture written on it.

I've been in a tornado of emotions these past couple of weeks between the loss of a friend and my upcoming audition for The Denver Bronco's Cheerleaders. Now, the audition may not seem like a big deal to you, but to me it's a huge step outside my comfort zone. It's both physically and emotionally confronting as I prepare for my 35th birthday and all of the tags that I've already removed from my first run dancing professionally in the NBA and the AFL.

I released some Instagram stories last week that were strong and emotional. There have been moments where I wonder if it was #toomuch, but then I remember that I'm so tired of showing up #filtered and hiding parts of my life from view so that people will accept me.

After my stories were released, I received a message from a woman that I've never met. She said that she has been auditioning for professional sports dance teams since the age of 28, she's now 43. She said that even through fighting cancer for 5 years, she continued focused on this dream and hasn't let up. Her resilience amazed me and I was so inspired by her story. What shocked me was the end of her message where she thanked me for my vulnerability and described being mocked and laughed at because she auditions.

Due to the backlash I receive, I can completely relate to what she was saying about her own and my heart met hers in such a broken and also empowered place. Together we will continue to chase this dream unapologetically because it's our dream and nobody else's to highjack. I'm not naming her name but if you're her and you're reading this, your message meant the world to me. #cheerleader

There are so many people living in #fear currently. In addition to the pandemic that we're only beginning to come out of, there are the usual scary events that happen in our world that cause us to worry about our safety and our future. This week has been a challenging week for many reasons. In addition to losing a friend to suicide, there was also a mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado at a grocery store. I can't help but feel like our world is hurting, angry and losing touch with joy more daily. I'm having a hard time finding joy recently too. I've been wearing the tag #fear more often then I want to admit to recently and it's not a tag that I can just tear out.

In fact, the only way I know how to release myself from fear is giving it to God. If you're wearing the tag #fear today as well, I hope you enjoy this bible verse.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

There’s one common theme that I’ve noticed as I’ve jumped into the podcasting, speaking and content creation industry and, to be honest, it’s not only happening in this industry. I’ve noticed that most people don’t celebrate the small wins with you. As I’ve watched the people around me accomplishing the first baby steps in reaching their goals, I’ve noticed that their friends, family, co-workers and community aren’t generally standing there waving pom poms and shooting off fireworks in celebration as they watch you rise.

However, suddenly when people start seeing that the small wins are mounting up to bigger and bigger wins, you find yourself with a whole lot of people on your side. These people are not only cheering for you but are your BIGGEST FANS. However, the period where you’re building, and people aren’t seeing the amazing things you’re doing can be lonely. Don’t let that stop you from chasing your dreams. My one question for you today is do you celebrate the wins??

My dogs ran away this week, twice. I happened to be out of town and left my husband to the stress of finding our two, two-year-old dogs, in the middle of farmland. We live in the country and there’s no telling where they go when they venture out on an animal adventure. Normally I wouldn’t be too worried because we live in an amazing area with lots of helpful neighbors but I quickly realized that the dogs had brand new collars and NO TAGS! There was no way for someone to identify who our dogs belonged to or contact us to come and retrieve them.

If we hadn’t found our pups safely, I wouldn’t be laughing but since they are home safely and tagged properly with their name and our information I can now giggle a bit at the fact that even my dogs don’t have tags.

Generally, though this is what I would suggest beginning with as you start your journey of tearing out your tags. A completely clean slate. When you start with NO tags, you can really begin to understand how freeing it is to lose the negative tags you’re wearing.

“Teens act out because they feel misunderstood. Teens feel misunderstood because they ARE misunderstood. If we learn to understand our teens we remove their need to act out. Then we can change our focus from reining them into rising them up.” — Dr. Cam

Today's guest, Dr. Cameron Caswell, PhD is an adolescent psychologist, family success coach, teen translator, author, and the host of “Parenting Teens with Dr. Cam” podcast. She is on a mission to help parents build strong, positive relationships with their teens through improved communication, connection, and understanding using her PRIME Parenting Method. In her fun, interactive style, Dr. Cam unpacks frustrating adolescent behavior and empowers parents to work with their teen's wiring rather than against it—boosting the development of a positive, healthy sense of self rather than unwittingly eroding it. Dr. Cam is the mom of a teen too, so she not only talks the talk, she walks the walk!

She will make you look at the labels that you are handing your kids, particularly your teenagers, and how dangerous it is for their future endeavors to carry tags from the developmental years of their youth and teens.

Did you know that I’m famous?

In many industries around the world, there are people who are nervously moving forward in their businesses and careers because they wear the tag #impostersyndrome. Having a considerable amount of difficulty feeling like an expert in their fields. On the flip side, there are also people convincing their clients and audience that they are big, famous, and valuable.

However, how much of the full story are you getting when someone is telling you all o the amazing things that they’ve done. Today’s episode will make you look deeper into the credentials behind the experts that you respect and make you think about the definition you might have to the tag #big.

If I had a penny for every time, I’ve wished to be a fly on the wall in my life, I’d have a bucket full of pennies. This is a tag that might be hard to ignite and inspire thought inside of you but I bet if you dig really deep as you listen to this episode you will remember times in your life where you wish you knew what someone was saying about you, wish you knew how something was made or wish you knew how something was created. Well today, for the first time EVER in my life, I got to be a #flyonthewall in the world of songwriting, singing and country music.

I remember being a senior in high school and getting your coveted senior year, yearbook on the last day of school. There was always a section labeled MOST LIKELY TO…

There were categories like..

Most likely to win an Academy Award

Most likely to play for the NBA

Most likely to invent something

Most likely to get married

Most likely to own a business

You get it… You probably remember some of the categories that were listed in your high school year-book.

Do you think it would’ve made you think differently or question the path you wanted to go down if those same pages in the year-book listed the following:

Most likely to get divorced

Most likely to go through bankruptcy

Most likely to become addicted

Most likely to be a single parent

I wonder if knowing that those things were a reality and that many of us would face those struggles would cause us to ask more questions, use caution, boldly and with authority take control over our lives.

Mark Twain once said, “it ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble, it’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so”. The blessing and curse of doing what I do is that tags jump out and bite me thousands of times a day. I actually can’t help but identify labels as they are swirling around in our world. This week was no different. I’ve heard four people in the last two days tell me a personality trait that they have and then solidified that statement with, “it’s just who I am, I’m fine with it”.

The only problem with that is that it could be true and it could be false depending on how well these people know themselves. Today’s episode highlights self-awareness and the value it has in our lives.

Rise and GRIND!

Apparently, the word grind is a big tag in the sports world. It’s amazing how people come up with these buzzwords that take the world by storm. As everyone is taking on the new trend, grinding away at their goals and dreams, they don’t stop to ask themselves how they define the new, hot, buzzword.

If you google the word grind, you will find many articles of this word written in relation to the sports world but you will also find articles telling you how grinding in your life is actually keeping you from success, not getting you there.

Yesterday, I was on a panel of speakers in the new social media app Clubhouse and we were discussing having a winner’s mindset. Specifically talking about the fact that you do not need to grind. The stage consisted of myself, Alan Stein Jr., yesterday’s guest on this podcast, Stu Singer and Christian Plascencia. All of the men on stage shared passionately about their distaste with the word grind and how it can lead to burn out.

Today’s episode will help you look at the tags you’re wearing, do you wear the tag grind? How is grind defined within you and do you want to continue wearing it?

Alan Stein Jr. spent 15 years working with the highest-performing athletes on the planet (including NBA superstars Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Kobe Bryant). He is currently a professional keynote speaker and shares how people can utilize the same principles in business that elite athletes use to perform at a world-class level.

He is incredibly accomplished and has achieved things that many of us can only dream of, like writing his best-selling book, Raise Your Game. In addition to being someone that I look up to and someone who has mentored me into the public speaking industry, Alan is also a devoted single father to three amazing kids and is amicably divorced.

In this episode, Alan and I dive into a conversation about self-awareness, comparison and how tags exist and effect the unique members of a family that has navigated divorce. He also shares how he is parenting with the understanding that tagging his children can change the way that they grow and believe in themselves, both in the positive and the negative.

If I asked you to tell me about something on your body that can be externally viewed that you are insecure about, you’d have NO PROBLEM telling me what it is. Well, maybe you wouldn’t offer up that kind of information, but you would immediately take an inventory of that #scar. Now, it may not be a scar, perhaps it is an area of your body that you’ve always disliked or an area that other people have poked fun of through the years. Regardless, you are aware of exactly what the scar is and exactly why you focus on it.

The truth is we focus on those external scars because the internal ones are much easier to hide but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Today’s episode will help you recognize whether you are focused on the scars, both internal and external, and if they are taking up too much space in your life and identity.

Last year I tried for the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders 2020-2021 football season. I haven’t danced on a stage since 2009 when I was a professional dancer for The Phoenix Suns so I figured it was time for me to tear out some of the tag that had held me back from getting back into the dance and cheerleading world. Now, as many of you know, the pandemic had different plans for the world and the sports world shifted and adapted as needed. The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders director decided to not onboard any new cheerleaders since it wasn’t even sure if they would end up having a season.

This year, the audition season is arriving again in just a couple of short months. Therefore, I am deciding again if this is something that I want to try again in my life. It’s interesting because a lot has changed in the past year in my life and my tags have also changed. I wish I could tell you that I’m navigating this decision sans tags but that’s just not the case. Today’s episode is about some size tags that show up for me with regards to a big decision to audition for The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders. Enjoy!

I met a new friend today. His name is Vincent Hickerson, lovingly referred to many as Bigg Vinny. We had an amazing zoom call today to get to know each other and I loved what Vinny is all about. He described that, before going on the biggest loser, his identity included being BIG. Now he was a large person, being 500lbs, but he also described that big described his personality, his voice and overall entertainment on stage singing in the band Trailer Choir that was signed with Toby Keith’s label.

Today’s episode will prompt you to define the word #big in your life and whether you are wearing this tag. I’ve noticed that we have the conversation about big and small in two categories in our lives. One of those categories is size, which is the second thing written on most tags, and the second is about success.

Is this how you are talking about being big or small?

If you were out on an adventure building something new, would you want to be referred to as a lone-ranger or a trailblazer?

Many of you have been forced to pivot during this pandemic and all of the challenges that have come with it. Whether you are changing your personal life, business, career, education, relationship or fitness routine, it’s possible that the people you surround yourself with don’t understand what you’re going through and why you’re turning down a different road towards something new.

This can lead to builder’s loneliness, the feeling of being alone on a path as you are building something new. Today’s episode will challenge you to look at the tag you’re wearing as you walk on this new path and make sure that you’ve got it defined correctly.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I love the book The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman, a book that has helped millions of relationships recover and thrive in the past 29 years since the book was released. However, I wonder how many people are missing a piece of the puzzle ultimately letting their relationships suffer only receiving or expecting to receive a primary and secondary love that will fill their love bucket.

Have you noticed that when you are falling in love deeply with your person, you are receiving all 5 love languages steadily on a nice reliable cycle?

Then, as you add children and live longer in the relationship, suddenly you are asked to choose one, maybe two, love categories that your partner can fulfill. Today’s episode will prompt you to think differently about what you’re giving and what you expect to receive in your relationship.

I was in a room on the new social media app Clubhouse today. The room was called MOMposter Syndrome. I was pinged into the room by my good friend Lindsay Blount and what I found was about forty powerhouse entrepreneurial women who were sharing about their MOMposter Syndrome. This is a word I hadn’t heard of until today.

You know me, I thought about this word as a tag and how many of us women suffer from this. I even got up on stage and shared my own journey and feelings about MOMposter syndrome. However, as the evening drew in and I began thinking more deeply into the tag, I realized that I don’t need to stack a layer of frustration on top of a tag that I ALREADY struggle with. Sometimes I think that as women, we are elevating our problems by adding mom, she and her to every word to be cute and creative. I don’t need to be a #bossbabe #sheboss #sheceo #momprenuer or anything else that might be heightened by my lady parts. I suffer from #impostersyndrome, it’s a tag that I’m always trying to tear out as I chase my dreams and remove the tags that other people are placing on me. My imposter syndrome has NOTHING to do with the fact that I’m a mom.

Today’s episode will draw you closer to the relationships in your life, it doesn’t matter who you are, you may suffer from imposter syndrome. If this is you, feel free to have a conversation with someone else who suffers with this tag.

Did you know that you can wear the tag #lover and #fighter at the same time? These two labels might seem like they don’t go together but depending on how you define them within you they can support each other or even be fighting each other. Today’s episode was inspired by my favorite singer/songwriter Tyrone Wells. Enjoy!

Yesterday I was having a conversation with Alan Stein. Alan is an old friend of mine and a best-selling author, podcaster, speaker and coach. We got onto the topic of elevating even when it would be easy to get complacent. Alan is also a single father and mentioned that it’s a lot like finding love again after going through a heart break. He said if you don’t take the risk and put yourself out there with vulnerability, you’ll never know how much you can succeed outside your comfort zone.

This got me thinking about those of you who have found your business or career flatlined through Covid19, reeling from the loss of almost a year worth of revenue or pay due to the world being limited and closed. Are you suffering from a #businessbrokenheart feeling like you’ll never recover from this incredible loss? If so, this episode is for you.

Last summer I had an interaction with a young man in the oil and gas industry where he told me that I have a glass ceiling on my forehead. The pure shock of what he had said made everyone sitting at the table feel uncomfortable. The conversation started with regards to the tag #dramatic and had I let his tasteless comment land on me, I would have risked showing up as #dramatic as I navigated the rest of the conversation.

Today’s episode is about holding onto the authority that you possess over the tags that you wear and the tags that you don’t want to wear.

Apparently I’m “dramatic”!

Today’s episode is another silly one that shines a light on a label that is thrown around and doesn’t typically feel great. Dramatic is often a tag that is give to you when someone wants to dismiss the way you feel or the problem that you are trying to bring awareness to.

However, as I was reading the definitions of dramatic, I suddenly had a change of heart surrounding my want to wear this label. Listen for more on this.

Have you ever been terrified to be an outsider but you also have ZERO desire to “fit-in”?

Today’s episode will inspire you to wear the tag “outsider” proudly as you see the world from a unique and dynamic perspective. I share a story about an incident in grade school where the “popular” girls decided that only a certain and select few of us would be invited into their “popular” group as we went into high school the following year. The twist in the story made me an outsider in both the selected group and the unselected group.

I’ve admitted to you all that I’m a “night-owl”. I’m thrilled if my workday begins at 9:00pm and doesn’t end until 2:30/3:00am. However, as I’m wrapping up today’s episode recording I can’t help but think about my habit of hitting the snooze button. I actually plan my morning with the latitude to hit snooze as many times as possible. This means that if I need to wake up at 7, I will schedule my alarm to go off at 5:30am and I will hit snooze every 8 minutes until 6:45, giving myself just 15 minutes to get ready for my day. Today’s episode is meant to be silly and lighthearted. Enjoy!

Yesterday you heard a message about the divorce rate during Covid and the conflict that has ignited in marriages across the United States and probably across the globe. That message made me reflect on my own divorce and the scary decision to leave my first marriage. I remember feeling like there wasn’t a possibility that we could heal and repair the brokenness that we had handed each other in our short marriage. I do my best to talk constructively about my former spouse and the thing I know for sure about our marriage is that we were both wearing the tag “scorekeeper”.

We were so busy fighting about fighting and keeping track of each other’s offenses that we didn’t have time to get in the game and give our relationship a fair chance. Some people use the phrase, “we’re like oil and water”, referring to two substances that can’t mix together. Well, he and I were more like, “fire and gasoline”. We knew how to ignite each other in a way that I had never experienced before. Unfortunately, being a “scorekeeper” doesn’t leave you much latitude to recognize your contribution to the problems in the relationship. If you’re wearing the tag “scorekeeper”, I hope this episode resonates in your heart and allows you to look into your own self-awareness.

According to the NY Post, the divorce rate during Covid from January to June was 34% higher than during the same time in 2019. Unfortunately, it seems that friendships all around me are breaking down and choosing to part ways. Unemployment, illness, death of loved ones, financial stress, homeschooling, working from home and overall distress about the pandemic has contributed to a lot of complex conflict for husbands and wives. The trend with most couples that are teetering on the edge of divorce is that they know what they want, most of them wanting happiness. However, when I ask them what the first step is, I’m usually met with the answer, “I don’t know”. My mentor, Ed Beard, always responds to this question, “Well, who knows if you don’t”. Today’s episode will shine a light on relationship breakdown and how to decide whether to fight for what you have or walk away and start anew.

I’ve noticed that men really connect to the Tear Out the Tags message and I’ve been getting some amazing feedback recently. Not only are the men in my audience starting to attach a word to their tags, but they also have the most creative and insightful ways of looking at them.

Tony Slabaugh wears the tag “home”, when he returns from time on the road to his beautiful bride.

Shawn Washburn wears the tag “caffeinated”, “bacon-lover” and “creative” as he exchanges emails with me about developing a content calendar.

And my friend, who wishes to remain anonymous, wears the tag “creative writer” as I share his beautiful writing with you in Saturdays episode.

If you are a man who is enjoying this content, please drop me a message and introduce yourself. I don’t for one minute want you to feel like this is a female empowerment company. This is a human and relationship empowerment company.

I’ve been spending some more time on the new social media app called Clubhouse and I’ve noticed something that stands out in the personalities on the app. There are quite a few people who are boasting about their success, how much money they make, how much status they have and how easy it is for them to achieve above the rest of us. Then there are ACTUALLY incredibly successful people who have access in ways that many of us can only dream of and they are typically modest about their achievements. I would call these two tags “cocky” and “humble”.

My entire life I thought that those two tags had to be worn separately. That one person couldn’t be wearing both tags at the same time, during the same season. However, as I’ve spent time in different rooms, I’ve realized something interesting. Some of the people that I’ve observed are showing up as “cocky” in rooms that they feel they have social status, with people that they believe they are above in achievement and clout. Then, those same people show up in rooms where it’s obvious that they are a small fish in a big pond. Suddenly they appear “humble” as they shrink to fit the role, they believe they are allowed to play in the room. Today’s episode will shine a light on these tags and get you thinking about which one you want to wear, if not both.

Today’s episode is quite unique. You’ll hear a creative writing piece written by a man who has unbelievable talent. He wears tags like the rest of us do, only when he let’s this unique passion show it’s breathtaking. This story is heart wrenching, as you listen to what it might feel like to be discarded, tossed aside with no value.

Have you ever felt dismissed, discarded, rejected, unloved?

Walk with Bri as she realizes something more terrifying then losing her love. Enjoy!

Lindsay Blount is commonly branded as a ‘regular, white suburban mom’ or just a ‘military wife’. However, if you made the mistake of generalizing her into one of these categories, you’d be missing a woman with incredible courage and achievement. Lindsay has many labels: she’s a wife, a mom, a doctoral student, an assistant to a Dean, a writer, and a photographer.

Recently, she had her identity completely uprooted when she took a 23andMe DNA test during the pandemic and found out some shocking news. In the last year, Lindsay has taken a deep dive into identity and it’s meaning down to the root. She challenges everyone to consider identity has something that is not a fixed part of your being, rather it is something you can learn and relearn.

Lindsay is currently writing her first book on identity shake ups and she hopes her story will inspire everyone to rip out the roots of their own identity and start creating a more true and authentic one.

Her story is captivating and unfolding. We are lucky enough to have her bringing us along her journey as she’s stepping through it. You’re not going to want to miss it.

Confidence isn’t a tag. What do I mean by that?

Think of confidence as a tag on a tag, like if you were to go into a consignment store and find a little orange sticker placed on top of the manufacturers label. You might get in the habit of calling yourself a ‘self-conscious’ person and sometimes you have multiple areas of struggle in your life that will make you feel the overwhelming weight of insecurity and struggle. However, the truth is that you have areas of your life that you show up with confidence and areas where you may feel deficient.

Today’s episode will reveal how self-confidence is built and just how easy it is for experiences and relationships to wilt away the confidence inside of you.

Many of you set intentional goals when a New Year arrives that surrounds a specific interest or area of your life. I’ve noticed many fitness, health, nutrition, self, spiritual and even boundary goals. However, it’s rare that you hear about couples setting intimacy goals. Last year was extremely taxing on your relationship with your partner due to many different factors and unfortunately, we are seeing a major influx of divorce as well as break ups because of the stress that your relationship had to weather.

Today’s episode will inspire you to set intimacy goals for February 2021 and think intentionally about what sex and intimacy means to you and your partner.

Today we are celebrating our 61st episode! Why would we celebrate such an odd number?

Yesterday’s episode talked about the need for me to tear out the tag ‘inconsistent’ as I am faced with the challenge of producing a daily podcast episode… E V E R Y D A Y! As far back as I can remember, I struggled with follow through so starting a daily podcast felt like a big step outside my comfort zone.

Sometimes we find words that are more valuable to our growth and movement then what we originally would think. I talked yesterday about attaching the tag ‘consistent’ or ‘execution’ but today I realized that the tag I want to attach to myself for 2021 is ‘cadence’. Cadence is the rhythm of your life, the clicks of success. My friend, John Stange, is getting prepared to release his newest book on May 25th. He’s written over 20 books, has 3 successful podcasts, is a gifted pastor, brilliant blogger and generous giver. When I met Paster John, I thought to myself, how does he do ALL of this?!

The answer is simple, he has achieved all his success through cadence. Every single step he takes leads him closer to his life’s mission and purpose, with rhythm. To learn more about Pastor John Stange, his books, his podcast, and his blog visit www.desirejesus.com.

My quit lives in the dip! That might not make any sense to you right now, but it will make sense when you listen to today’s episode. My motivation is fueled by momentum so when my momentum is interrupted, often I will find my ‘failure’ tag in that dip. Now that doesn’t mean that I’ve failed if I would just continue on with forward motion but often, I’m so hard on myself about losing momentum that instead of a dip it turns into a cliff edge.

You need three things to do this work of tearing out your tags.

  1. The ability to visualize your tags and where they’re located in your body.
  2. Physically tear the negative ways that you feel labeled in half, or to shreds if you choose. I recommend sticky notes.

  3. Affirmations, you must verbally affirm the work that you’re doing, it will help move you more quickly through this work.

If you’re wearing the tag ‘inconsistent’ like me, decide what area of your life you’re inconsistent in and what you’d like to attach in place of that tag once you tear it out. I’m removing ‘inconsistent’ and attaching ‘consistent’, ‘resilience’ and ‘intention’.

How often do you start something new without ‘intention’?

Or rather… with intention and then forget what that was when the new gets difficult?

You may be so burdened by that tags that you’re wearing that you have lost sight of the fact that you “should” be wearing the tag intention as you tackle most, if not all, of the actions, thoughts and relationships that you encounter on a daily basis.

Today’s episode should challenge you to ask yourself, am I taking action in my life without intention OR is my intention not clear and vocalized before starting something new?

Intention is a tag that I’m adding to my work for 2021 as I don’t always act with intention and my intention starts to become muddy as the NEW becomes difficult.

Do you remember my story about my metaphorical climb to the top of a 14,000ft. mountain after my divorce? If you didn’t get the chance to hear that episode, I’ve linked it for you here.

Tear Out the Tags, The Podcast - #emboldened

Today’s episode will push you to attach the tag #resilience in the lining of your body. I was lucky enough to take an assessment a few years ago that revealed my lack of resilience. Again, I had this tag mis-labeled within me because throughout my life I had been called a #dramaqueen, #toomuch and #emotional. It turns out that I have a good balance of analytical thinking and emotional thinking within me but struggle with getting up when I get knocked down.

Would you consider yourself a resilient person?

Do you wear the tag patience?

We are taught to have big goals, but as the world gets bigger it seems more and more intimidating to have really BIG goals. The reason we’ve been wired to want success and achievement overnight is because the world of technology has trained us to believe that everything moves quickly.

Often what you miss when chasing your big goals are the baby step that get you moving on the journey. When you skip the small achievable goals, you’ll find yourself stuck, in analysis paralysis. You’ll find yourself wearing many tags, including:

#impatient

#overthinker

#unworthy

#imposter syndrome

Today’s episode will encourage you to attach #patience as you chase your dreams.

Today is the conclusion to the story behind my #stagefright tag. You’ll learn that I had the tag mis-labeled inside of me, leaving me helpless in moving forward because I was working so hard to overcome the wrong tag.

My husband, my cousin Chelsey, my neighbors Gary and Robin and Michael Port all helped me re-attach the tag authority that I had given up years prior. I hope that this will encourage you to explore the way that you label your tags and how they are defined within you. The worst thing you can do is work hard to tear out the tags that are holding you back only to find that you’ve been removing the wrong element.

“Ugh, I just need a vacation from my life”, I’d rather be anywhere but here.

This might be a thought or words you’ve actually expressed recently and you’re just feeling like you need a break from all of the weight that you’re carrying in your life. The struggle feels heavy and some days you think you’re going to break underneath the pressure. The Oxford Dictionary defines Vacation as the action of leaving something one previously occupieid. Although sometimes we just want to fly to the beach for the weekend, it’s possible that today you’re wanting a vacation from you. From all of the roles that you play and all of the struggles that you’re carrying.

Today’s episode will encourage you to tear out the tags that are stacked within you and take a vacation from the person you’ve been for quite some time. Spend time re-defining the labels that you wear and show up differently then you once were able to.

“Oh, I would never leave my comfort zone”.

Has this thought ever entered your mind? Perhaps you have everything you’ve EVER wanted, and you are so comfortable in your life that you can’t and wouldn’t dare stepping outside of the dream life you’ve created. If this is you, congratulations, you’ve accomplished what most people dream of. Many of us chase the check list of expectations that was handed to us in our lives and end up with a life of “comfort” that is really really UNCOMFORTABLE!!

Imagine your comfort zone is “supposed” to be a soft place for you to sit comfortably and the thought of stepping outside your comfort zone seems as scary as stepping off a cliff edge with no parachute. Now, as yourself, are you really comfortable in your life? Is it possible that you’re “comfort zone” is actually filled with discomfort, more like you’re sitting at the bottom of a dark depressing well, stuck from chasing your dreams or being authentically you?

Today’s episode will challenge you to look at your “comfort zone” and redefine it if needed. Here’s the thing, if you’re sitting in a discomfort zone, telling yourself it’s your comfort zone. You will stay stuck there until you decide the step outside that zone isn’t as scary as being paralyzed in a place of dissatisfaction.

“I DON’T HAVE TIME”, I shout at the top of my lungs. My life is busy, yours is too. You have so many people pulling on you in different directions. You’re a doer, always scheduled to the max with to-do’s, tasks and activities. Your kids, spouse, parents and community is busy too, which means you are even busier because you want to give of yourself to each part of your life. It isn’t that you wish you didn’t have to do the things you do, but rather just wishing you could stretch your time. There’s not enough hours in the day, you catch yourself saying.

Time has been a heavily weighted excuse for me for quite some time now. I was a single parent for 5 years and now… well, it’s still my excuse. Life seems to be getting busier and busier leaving me with a tag that says ‘busy’. This morning after saying, “I don’t have time”, to my seven year old daughter, I realized that this “tag” that I’m wearing isn’t actually the tag I need to tear out. The tags that I’m wearing are ‘unorganized’ and ‘unfocused’, leaving me with NO TIME left for anyone else.

Today’s episode will make you assess the way you label ‘time’ in your own life.

When I met Dr. Gautam Gulati, also known as Dr. G, I was intimidated. I knew just a few things, he seemed confident, knowledgeable, and very well known in the public speaking world. We met at a public speaking workshop and I knew NOTHING and had no idea where I was going or why. He, on the other hand, has spoken on big stages, is highly educated and scared the daylight out of me. Not because he is scary or intentionally intimidating but because of all of MY TAGS. Luckily for me, Dr. G started investing time into my progress and as Tear Out the Tags came to fruition, he quickly became a cheerleader and friend to me.

Last year, I was asked to be a model in a yearly catalog produced by a local company called Trice Jewelers. After receiving this year’s catalog and noticing an interesting trend, I went back and opened last years to see how I introduced myself in my bio. There seems to be a template of how we introduce ourselves to the world in our culture. Name, role (in our family), career and perhaps a hobby or organization that we’re passionate about.

I did just this! My introduction of myself had more to do with the people around me and past experiences that I had then it did with who is really inside of ME. Today’s episode will make you think about how you introduce yourself to the world and make you think differently about filling in the gaps so people get an opportunity to really “meet” the real you!

You’re too dramatic…

You try too hard…

You’re too curious…

You ask too many questions…

You’re too pretty…

You give too much…

You feel too much…

Has anyone ever made you feel like you’re too much?

Many ‘tags’ and limitations come from someone constantly making you feel like your natural personality is too over the top. The limiting beliefs that hold you back can be a result of you putting a lid on your own pot to stop “bothering” someone else.

Would you ever put everyone you love into a blender and flip the switch?

When I became a member of a ‘blended’ family in 2009, I entered what felt like a blender. It seemed like the chaos and conflict would never end between the two ‘sides’ of my step-sons life. When I had children of my own suddenly the weight of being in a blended family felt heavier. Unfortunately, I didn’t learn many important lessons in time to save my first marriage, but I eventually came to realize that no family should ever been referred to as blended and no family should ever try to pulverize everyone together. When I think of being in a blender, it sounds violent, cold, and terrifying.

I now think of my family as ‘combined’. Each part of the family has a different personality and different experiences, some have different ideas about how the family should look, and some aren’t willing to participate in any of the family process. However, all the members are still part of the combined family. Think of it as a wonderful salad, where each part represents a part of the children’s family who are gently mixed together but still get to remain who they are.

The beginning of a new year feels like a race. Like we are all stacked on the starting line waiting for the shotgun start. New Year’s Day arrives, and we all take off in a mad sprint towards our “goals”. The only problem is… Do you know where you’re running, how long it will take you to get there or why you’re running in the first place. It’s no wonder so many of us run out of steam by the time we reach the end of the year.

Maybe the best way to approach a new year is to start by stopping. Collecting the lessons from the prior year and deciding and prioritizing goals for the new year before taking off in a sprint. Don’t worry, if you have already started in your furious mad dash, it’s not to late to stop and stretch long enough to decide what’s important as you take on this new year.

Today’s episode is about depression.

I am not a mental health provider, counselor, or therapist. If you suffer from depression, you should seek professional care from a mental health professional or medical professional.

When you’ve been wired to pick up the negative tags around you for years, you might find that you are stuffed full of the crap that has been handed to you your entire life. This threatens to make you feel emotionally constipated as you navigate depressed thoughts and feelings. We are having two conversations in our society. One about mental health and one about limiting beliefs. I believe in the world of labels, there is a lot to be discovered in between those two conversations.

Because of Covid…

For months now, it seems like many conversations are beginning with these three words. It’s amazing that every single person in the world has been affected by this pandemic. Whether you have been positively or negatively affected by 2020, you have probably used these same three words. What if you spoke about the cause and effect of the tags?

I’m a giver…

This is a tag that you might wear VERY proudly as you notice the world that spins around you. You probably take every opportunity you can to help others and lift others up. You might donate money to your favorite charitable organization, you might give your time to coach a high school soccer team or perhaps you are somebody who gives caring compliments to people on a regular basis. Do you help others without the expectation to get anything in return?

Are you able to receive when others want to give to you?

Today’s episode will challenge you to wear both the ‘giver’ tag and the ‘receiver’ tag. I believe that if you don’t wear both, you will be unable to fully be a powerful ‘giver’.

Every day I wake up with the intention to rise up and crush my day. After all, it’s a NEW YEAR, therefore a NEW YOU?? We have all of these messages that inundate our brains this time of year, pressure that EVERYONE is kick starting their lives once again because it’s January.

What about when you wake up 4 minutes before you need to take your kids to school on their first day back after winter break? Does that mean it’s going to be an off day? My day started this way today and the rhythm kept skipping throughout the rest of the day as I compared myself to everyone else who was on fire. Thank goodness for my person, my ride or die who is always there to get me through a hiccup. Do you have a ride or die?

There's a bully lingering in this world that isn't traditionally attacking in the way you might imagine. There's a bully that is showing up by NOT showing up. These bully's are cowards, showing up in the world with passive aggression as they AVOID helping others therefore happily bullying as they sit on the hands that they could be helping others with.

I flew home from Florida yesterday and experienced this cowardice as I watched 24 people DECIDE inaction over action in helping a woman find room for her suitcase.

Are you wearing the coward tag? Are you someone who is a cowardly bully?

I’ve properly walked you all through the introduction to Tear Out the Tags and the importance of removing the labels that are holding you back. However, I’ve missed a crucial part of the puzzle. You see, Tear Out the Tags is the journey. We must move with intention on a path forward while tearing out the labels that feel itchy, scratchy and uncomfortable to wear. However, the destination is to live emboldened so we can embolden others.

Embolden means to give someone the courage and confidence to be something or show up in a certain way. In order to remove the labels that are blocking you, you need to wear both courage and confidence in order to overcome the obstacles and pursue your dreams. Today’s episode will help you understand why we are Tear Out the Tags by EMBLDN Label.

I attached a tag this week, actually it ended up being multiple tags by the time my negative self-talk started rattling around. "You're wasting your time", was one in particular that popped up. Not a very good feeling or a very helpful tag to be wearing.

Today's episode covers the arrival of foreign language tags and how to remove them before they threaten to derail your forward motion.

In years past, during the holiday season, we would be asking each other this question…

Where are you going?

We were wired for adventure, activity, and entertainment. We’ve grown used to seeing world travel, concerts, professional sporting events and other amazing adventures that our friends and family were off enjoying. This year has been quite a change then in years past and, now more then ever, is the perfect time to ask yourself, “Where am I going”? What are your goals, plans and hopes for 2021 in relationships, career, and self-love?

This episode will help you brainstorm both where you’ve been this year but also allow you to ask yourself, where are you going, next year.

What if you could travel the world without leaving the comforts of your home?

I would never tell you that I wear the tag ‘world traveler’, as I grew up in a family that didn’t leave the country for travel destinations. It has only in the past 3 years that I’ve been able to spread my wings and travel to places outside of The United States. My husband has seen many parts of the world and has shown me how wonderous it is to travel and explore different places, people, cultures, and foods. We’ve been to Austria, Ireland and the United Kingdom together with many more places on our bucket list that we’ve put on hold for 2020 just like many of you.

However, this podcast has allowed me to reach places that might not have been on my bucket list for travel pre-pandemic. This episode explains why I’m able to wear the tag ‘world traveler’, during a pandemic where we can’t just hop on an airplane and jet across this wide-open earth. How are you spending your time exploring from the comfort of your home?

I read an article on psychologytoday.com today where Barbara Markway Ph.D. shared the 10 Reasons to Stop Judging People. She describes a story told often by Tara Brach, a psychologist and meditation teacher. The story goes as follows: Imagine you are walking through the woods and you see a small dog. It looks cute and friendly. You approach and move to pet the dog. Suddenly it snarls and tries to bite you. The dog no longer seems cute and you feel fear and possibly anger. Then, as the wind blows, the leaves on the ground are carried away and you see the dog has one of its legs caught in a trap. Now, you feel compassion for the dog. You know it became aggressive because it is in pain and is suffering.

This story will help you peel off the tag ‘judgement’ that you may be wearing as you uncover the way that nuances and details of someone’s situation. We have a tendency to make a snapshot assumption or judgement about other people and how they are choosing to live their lives without fully understanding or investigating the details behind the choices. We often forget that we are our own individual people who choose to live life according to our rule book and can’t always understand why people think differently then we do.

Today’s episode will help expose the ‘judgement’ tag that you may be wearing and how to start tearing it out.

I had a conversation a couple of weeks ago with a new friend of mine, Mike Farr. He and his wife Kelley live only about 20 minutes from my home near Denver, Colorado, and the moment we connected, I recognized that we have similar passions. We all have a want and a need really for community, connection and supporting those who are struggling. I, have big dreams of getting people to recognize and understand the damage that labeling others can do and Mike and Kelley have a passion for helping home owners recognize how much more is there, in the home, that we aren’t valuing.

Mike, Kelley and I discussed the paralyzing overthinking techniques that cause us to pause and sit in our “I don’t know what to say” space. To me, I would call this my brand of stuck. I have a tendency to overthink into paralysis causing me to not move in any direction, especially forward. While I would call this #overthinking, Mike, with laughter, called it #speedybrainsyndrome. Though we wear similar tags regarding our content and personal life missions, we call them very different names.

Today’s episode will dive into the tags that we are wearing individually and how we can’t know what to say until we’ve said it. What does that mean? We all have ideas and dreams but if we don’t start putting them out into he world, we will never “know what to say”.

We often refer to issues that arise in relationships as ‘red flags’, and just as often, we ignore those warning labels that are issued in our lives. We’ve uncovered the 6 things written on most tags in the pilot episodes of this podcast, but we haven’t yet, discussed the warning labels.

The negative tags that you wear are warning labels within themselves. There are pieces of your tags that are written in bright red or orange bold font telling you how the tags you’re wearing are harming you, holding you back and make you feel a brand of STUCK.

Today’s episode will help you begin to see how warning labels might be showing up on the tags that you’re wearing.

There are just 5 days left in 2020 to set goals for 2021, reflect on this historical year and set priorities that will carry you through the next chapter of your life. Many of us make goals surrounding fitness, health, career, and money; but how many of us make goals surrounding relationship and connection with others?

This year, as we have faced a time like no other, we’ve watched the world lose connection as we were asked to socially distance, isolate and shut our world down for safety reasons. As we come out of this, whenever that may be, we will undoubtedly have a long road back with regards to relationships. What goals are you setting in 2021 around the connections, relationships and repairs in your life?

Today’s episode will highlight the need to both #listen and #receive from others in order to continue to grow in your own identity.

The holidays are “supposed” to be filled with family, friends, celebration and fellowship but what if you’re alone this Christmas? Today’s episode is a special Christmas Day episode that shines a light on male loneliness. It may seem that today’s message is just for men but I assure you that women will benefit from listening to this as well. We all need to be a part of the conversation about how to love and support the men in our lives who may not feel they can lean on us. Our special guest, Jared Odle, is incredibly vulnerable and honest, as he shares what he is witnessing happening, in the world of men, cross culturally between Africa and the United States.

Jared Odle guides people over mountains in their lives as a cross-cultural entrepreneur, writer, and communities development worker. He is a Connector, helping others intentionally connect with themselves, family, communities, and other cultures in West Africa and the United States. The entire world is changing and men are getting stuck and just don’t know what to do. Jared is focusing his skills gained as a pastor, speaker, and copywriting career to dealing with male loneliness on his blog found at https://www.jaredodle.com .

You're racing around, trying to get everything done in time to celebrate Christmas Day... peacefully. How ironic is this?

Every year during the holidays despite my planning or preparation, I always end up feeling overwhelmed the week leading up to Christmas. This morning I was thinking about the saying, 'the calm before the storm', and I realized that this year has been more like the storm before the calm. As I now get to step into the calm that comes when the storm dissipates. I hope that you can tear out your own tag of overwhelm as these beautiful Christmas moments fall around you.

Merry Christmas Eve EMBLDN family!

Today is Christmas Eve Eve and today we’re going to uncover the gift of tags. This show is called Tear Out the Tags, which focuses largely on negative tags that you might be wearing and how to remove them in order to get un-stuck in your life. However, tags can be ripped out or attached in a moments notice. We choose everyday whether or not we want to wear a label or toss it in the trash.

My friend, Stephanie Hendrick, recently published her first book, Meant for More. She wrote it to help business professionals pursue their passions and figure out their true purpose. With amazement, I watched her attach the tag author the day that she published this month. Though she, with ease, attached that tag (that can NEVER be taken away), she worked long hours for many days to achieve this unbelievable goal. Today’s episode will highlight the gift of tags and the hard work that stands underneath these momentous occasions where we get to attach or tear out tags.

I went to lunch last week with a good friend who owns a successful business in my city. We were discussing how the mask wearing of 2020 has affected her business and how strictly they are enforcing them in her location. She shared how, for the most part, they are relaxed about the masks because they are concerned for their customers social and mental health in addition to physical health and said that she feels that they practice other measures for social distancing so that they can be more relaxed for the customers who are in need to not wear them.

She then went on to say that for the most part people have been kind and understanding and explained that it hasn’t been a problem except for ONE lady. After she told me what happened with her, she said, “ugh, she was such a Karen”. We both laughed but the truth is, even though I have heard this saying many times recently, I had no idea what it really means. When I got home, I went on a hunt to figure out what it means when someone says this. What I found made me sad for the people in this world named Karen. Today’s episode highlights how a name, in itself, can be a ‘tag’.

Alex Honnold, an American solo free climber, successfully scaled the sheer rock face of Yosemite National Park’s El Capitan in 2017… Without ROPES! I live in the land of the 14,000 ft mountains, Colorado. I’ve climbed two of these massive mountains and can’t begin to imagine what it would feel like to climb a sheer rock face without ropes.

When you walk through unimaginable struggle in your life, it’s a lot like climbing a large mountain, straight up-hill. When I went through my divorce several years ago, I remember feeling the weight of my failure and my two children who relied on me to keep climbing through the discomfort and frustration of our family crumbling apart.

Kelsi Kraus, a vivacious, inspiring, free spirited, mother is currently in the middle of her own climb. Though there are many ‘tags’ that I would give Kelsi, one of the biggest would be ‘climber’. She’s bravely lifting herself out of immense pain and heartache with resilience, strength, community, faith and perspective. Are you a fan of Kanye West?

I’ve never understood his fashion, music or content. I’ve never been a raving fan seeking out his innovative art beyond the random song on the radio that might get my foot tapping. However, that all changed when I heard him on David Letterman’s new show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. Kanye was funny and authentic as he shared different intimate aspects of his life. It was an interview that opened some of the windows into the unknown world of this misunderstood person.

Towards the end of the interview, Kanye shared an idea that rattled through me, as it relates to the Tear Out the Tags message. He described his fans loving his crazy music, his crazy fashion and his crazy ideas. He then paused briefly before sarcastically alluding to the fact that all those things, that people love, come from crazy. He then went on to describe how medicating the human that these wild innovative ideas come from will also medicate the ‘crazy’ too.

Labels are natural to the human mind. You have the ability to and the habit of labeling everything. You 'tag' people, places, pets, personas, habits, vices, shoot... you even label the things that adorn your home. For example, the pillow I'm laying on is fluffy, but it could very easily be labeled as soft, comfortable, ergonomic or clean.

While this is a silly example of harmlessly labeling a pillow, it's exactly the same way that we label a person. He's a narcissist, she's a dumb blonde, they're uneducated, she's fat, he's a pansy...

The danger about labeling anything is that, there are likely many other ways to 'tag' that very same object or person.

This December, as we wrap up this insane 2020 year, I’m celebrating a HUGE personal win. I paid off ALL my consumer debt!!! This is a massive accomplishment for many reasons but more importantly it feels like the start of a new chapter. I got myself into mountains of consumer debt due to the financial difficulties of single mom-dom and the expense of conflict post-divorce. (SCREEEEECH)… Hold the phone, you can’t tell me that you believe that my debt was 100% due to me being a victim to financial hardship. No, you’re right, I had also purchased shoes, clothes, plane tickets, concert tickets, drinks, food and many many other things that contributed to my happiness, while navigating hardship.

Let me tell you, that happiness was fleeting once I realized that the combination of all of these expenses added up to a financial crutch that I never planned on facing. You see, I had used a system called shopping math to justify my spending and fashion habit, as my credit card debt climbed. Today’s episode might be helpful for you if you have the tendency to over-consume during the holiday season. Enjoy!

The holidays are filled with laughter, joy and quality time with family and friends. It’s the time of year that you’re ‘supposed’ to look forward to ALL year. However, this year, as I scan the landscape of this painful year. I see the struggle, pain, hardship, grief, and loss that many have faced. Today I became overwhelmed with sadness as I reflected on the loss that my new family has experienced in 2020. I got married in 2019 to my wonderful husband, Ken. We were blessed to have his father attend our wedding even though his struggle with cancer was growing. In April, my father-in-law left us to be with Christ and left an enormous hole in the hearts of each one of us.

As I sat with my sadness today, I realized that the tag I am wearing is actually ‘yearning’. I was yearning to call my father-in-law and ask him how he’s feeling, ask him about what he’s had to eat today and see if he’s jumped on his favorite mower. As the holidays approach, the ‘yearning’ is growing and there is sadness that he won’t be here with us to celebrate Christmas. We can’t always remove tags that are painful and uncomfortable. You would never remove the yearning you have for a love one lost. If you are aching for someone special today, you’re not alone.

The world, overall, is designed for people who wake with the sun and sleep through the night. My entire life I wondered what it would be like to pop out of bed sunny, cheery and full of life at 6am.

However, this has never been me, it's been a struggle my entire life to wear the tag 'morning person'.

I'm a 'night-owl', through and through, it's not necessarily a tag that I love wearing but I've learned that it is part of my wiring despite my years of trying to change it.

There are three different ways that foreign language tags arrive in your life. These are tags that you attach that don't or shouldn't make sense to you.

  1. When someone you like, love or admire says something to you that doesn't make sense. It can be something that is meant to hurt or confuse you. It can be something that they believe about you but you know isn't true.

  2. When a stranger says something to you that's offensive. In your complete shock that a COMPLETE stranger said this to you, you dismiss it. However, later you might circle back and attach a related tag after analyzing the details of the foreign interaction.

  3. When a number of strangers are talking to each other, not you. You overhear something that's said that happens to spur an emotional injury inside you. You attach tags based on the assumption you're making about what people must say about you behind your back.

Where were you made?

What was the checklist of expectations that were handed to you throughout your life?

No matter who you are, no matter what community, state or family you came from; you were handed tags through the origin category of life. Some of those tags were positive, some were negative and some were hard to understand, leaving you with the challenge of filling in the gaps and perceive implied expectations in addition to possibly having tags that you didn't WANT to wear into adulthood.

Today's episode will help you discover the third thing written on most tags... Origin.

Fat or skinny, thick or thin, big or small, tall or short...

It seems there are two categories that you are placed in when it comes to your height, weight and size. On a tag sewn into a garment, the size is defined based on one or two letters. Yet, the size that we wear seems to have a lot more emphasis in our daily conversations then it should. Many of us have felt rejected or dismissed because someone makes an assumption about us based on what size we are.

Is there a perfect height, weight or size?

What does our size really have to do with our ability to accomplish, love, have relationship or develop?

There are six things commonly written on most tags.

BRAND is the first thing written on tags and one of the first things that people learn about you based on first impressions and initial interactions. The way we introduce ourselves to new people is our personal brand. First, that person make a judgement or assumption about you based on your looks alone, then they fill in the gaps that you give them with the brief conversation you might have the opportunity to have.

Imagine how much is left unseen of the beauty and wonder that's within each of us.

Similar to a head of cattle being branded with a hot iron, being branded can be painful. People can often misinterpret who we are because they've already decided they know enough about us based on first interaction.

Perhaps you are living in a big city, deeply effected and frustrated due to Covid19 restrictions. This episode will bring you a much needed break from the 'city life' and allow you to breathe in the joys and peace of small town living.

Rocky Hiser, our featured guest tomorrow, is a Wyoming native, in her early thirties, who has a heart and soul that sings for small towns and small businesses.

Although she claims she can't actually sing (we challenge her on that, though)

Rockie courageously started her first business at the age of 10 making and selling beaded rings and braided bracelets to her friends in elementary school.

Her career curiosity led her into many vocations including culinary arts, the corporate food industry, health and fitness, education, non-profits and economic development, private resort event planning and of course entrepreneurship.

How has she accomplished so much at such a young age?

Well, did you hear me say she started at 10!!

She's currently enjoying this season of life as the owner of Wyld 'n Pretty, a western lifestyle brand that she started in 2018. This may be her greatest adventure YET!

Pop over to her Instagram account @wyldnpretty and say hello! Rockie would love to connect with you!!

Also, check out her BRAND NEW website at www.wyldnpretty.com

(She built her own website. I know, I know, I wasn't surprised either) She's a #rockstar
