Unity of Greenville

Unity of Greenville is an inter-denominational church based on the practical teachings of Jesus Christ - often referred to as Positive, Practical Spirituality.

Our main focus is to be a light where we are and articulate a positive vision for the world. We are created in the image and likeness of God, here to live life, and live it more abundantly. Everything we do is based upon the commandment of love which is expressed as two wonderful ideas:

  1. To love God with your whole heart, mind, soul, and strength
  2. To love others as you love yourself

The 1990s were a decade of questions.

The Berlin Wall fell. The Cold War ended. The old enemies disappeared. And suddenly – we had nothing to believe in.

So we started looking everywhere – the music, movies and the internet! And the blinking cursor just waited. But what were we suppose to write?

This Sunday, we continue Unity Through the Decades with Week Five: The Blinking Cursor. We’ll explore:

What if God was one of us? Joan Osborne was singing/asking and we wanted to knowThe search for meaning – angels, aliens – was the truth “out there?”The internet – the great disrupter that changed everythingAnd the question: “What do I actually believe and how do I live it?” The Blinking CursorDownload

The 1980s gave us a lot. MTV. The personal computer. Big hair. And a question we’re still trying to answer: “What can I become?”

But here’s the thing about the 1980s – behind all that ambition and success, there was a deeper story. A story about fear and division, but also a story about a generation that learned to dream big and then had to figure out what it all meant.

This Sunday, we continue Unity Through the Decades with Week Four: From Success to Significance.

We’ll explore:

What happens when success becomes identity? Why were we so afraid of strangers, Satanists, and each other? What did the Jesus People Movement teach us about the Christ within? And the big one: How does my success bless the whole? The 1980sDownload

By 1970, the dream of the 1960s had soured. The assassinations. The war that wouldn’t end. The counterculture that had turned into addiction and disillusionment. The revolution hadn’t come. And so the question became: “Now what?”

We’ll explore the decade that turned inward – not as an escape, but as a profound spiritual realization. The 1970s taught us that changing governments and institutions wasn’t enough. Lasting change required transforming consciousness.

Whether you remember the 1970s or only know them from movies and music, there’s a place for you in this conversation. Because the questions the 1970s asked are still our questions today.

The 1960s gave us a lot. Bob Dylan. The Beatles. Woodstock. The moon landing. And also – a question we’re still trying to answer:

“Is this all there is?”The 1950s gave us stability. The 1960s gave us the courage to ask if stability was enough.

This Sunday, we continue Unity Through the Decades with Week Two: Breaking Open the Self.

We’ll ask:

What were they really looking for?Why did music become scripture? How did Eastern spirituality and the Human Potential Movement change everything? And the big one: Is God found inside – or through collective action? July 5Download

The 1950s called. They want their rabbit ears back! lol

This Sunday, we begin our six-week series Unity Through the Decades where we will be traveling back in time – not for nostalgia, but for revelation!

The 1950s gave us the television – and with it, a shared script. Leave It to Beaver. Father Knows Best. The perfect lawn. The perfect family. The perfect smile. But underneath the black-and-white surface, something was stirring.

We’re going to explore:

The music that shook the hips and the parents, the movies that mirrored our dreams and our fears, the Unity teachings that remind us: There is only Presence, and it’s always broadcasting, even when we’ve forgotten how to tune in, Unity’s own history, both the light and the shadow, the progress and the unfinished work. Whether you remember the 1950s or only know them from movies, there’s a place for you in this conversation. Because the 1950s aren’t just back then. They’re still alive in the scripts we follow, the fears we hide, and the parts of ourselves we’re still learning to sing.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes the noise just gets to be too much. The deadlines. The news. The inner critic that never seems to take a break. And somewhere in all that screaming, I can lose the quiet part of myself. But this week, I was looking back on the years I homeschooled two of our boys. And I remembered one voice that was part of our daily routine. Every afternoon we would gather at the television for a lesson with a quiet, steady presence that taught us something far bigger than any textbook. He never raised his voice. He turned smudges into beauty. He looked at a mess and said, “I can work with this.” That’s a different way to live! Not louder. Not faster. Just – differently. This Sunday, I want to share what I found. It won’t be what you expect. You won’t need to be an artist or have your life together. Just bring yourself. Bring your noise. Bring your mistakes. We’ll sit together, learn something simple, and leave a little lighter than we came.Don’t Scream, Just PaintDownload

Unity Principle Five: The Law of Action

Knowing and understanding the laws of life—also called truth—is not enough. A person must live the truth that he or she knows.

Action and service is the way we demonstrate our beliefs.

Through thoughts, words and actions, we live in the truth we know. Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We live and demonstrate them through our actions.

“It’s the action, not the fruit of the action, that’s important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there will be any fruit. But that doesn’t mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your actions. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.”

Rev Karen Patrick explores Unity Principle Four, focusing on prayer and meditation as transformative practices that connect us with divine consciousness. Embracing these tools helps us understand our true selves and radiate authenticity into the world.

She discusses how these practices enhance our awareness of our divine connection, moving us beyond surface thinking to align with the infinite presence within. Through insights and experiences, we’ll learn how they deepen spiritual awareness and empower us to live with greater clarity, peace, and purpose. We will explore how to understand prayer and meditation beyond abstract ideas, helping us integrate them into daily life. You’ll gain methods to quiet the mind, open the heart, and embrace the present as a chance to connect with divine wisdom.

Human beings create their experiences through thinking. Everything in the physical realm begins with thoughts. We create life experiences through thinking, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes. The energy we resonate sends a signal that makes our experiences. The law of mind action (Law of attraction) is the idea that thoughts are the blueprint for reality in the physical world. Positive and negative thoughts are produced after their kind. Heaven and Hell are states of mind, not literal places in the afterlife.

We are co-creators with God, creating reality through thoughts. We are not victims. We are the creators of our experiences and want to accept responsibility (not blame). When we take responsibility for our experiences, we are empowered to consciously create what we truly need.

“But principles do not change; humans make their heaven or hell, just as they did two thousand or two million years ago”

Charles Fillmore“If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn’t sit for a month.”

Theodore Roosevelt“You are one thing only. You are a Divine Being. An all-powerful Creator. You are a Deity in jeans and a t-shirt, and within you dwells the infinite wisdom of the ages and the sacred creative force of All that is, will be and ever was.”

~Anthon St. Maarten“You cannot fool God (Principle), so don’t make a fool of yourself! You will harvest what you plant.”

The 2nd principle of Unity reveals the nature of the human being and who we really are from a spiritual perspective. We are made in the image of God and have the spark of Divinity within. We are inherently good.

Our first nature is love, but our secondary nature is ego. How we choose to express it is up to each one of us. Often, our programming causes us to react from our ego rather than our spirit. Living from your divine self stems from having a spiritual awakening. As you embody the Christ self, you become a healing force in the world. There are only two kinds of people in the world: those waking up and those continuing to slumber in unconsciousness.

“Christ in you the hope of glory.”

Colossians 1:27“As the body is moved by mind, so the mind is moved by ideas; and right here in the mind we find the secret of the universe. This is where Jesus differed from ordinary men: He knew He was the Son of God; He knew the power of spiritual ideas to do mighty works: “The Father abiding in me is doing the work.”

This time of year evokes many feelings; some feelings are wonderful and filled with joy and hope. It may also be a time of mourning for others because of loss and disappointment. We need to honor people wherever they are in their current situation. All of us have had our ups and downs throughout our lives. It is part of being human. One thing we know for sure is that the situation will change, and so will we!

At the same time, if you can, you are invited to make peace with the past, accept the present moment as it shows up, and get ready for what is to come. The Christ child was born during war, strife, and misunderstanding. The Christ in you is reborn through you every minute of every day. What you look at and focus on becomes your reality. We don’t deny that there is much uncertainty in the world. Who knows what’s coming next?

What do our principles teach us? God’s got this, and we are going to be okay. Let’s look at the lights and the decorations on the Christmas tree. It symbolizes the beautiful expression of a person that shines with joy from within. You are the Christmas tree that has been planted right where you are to shine the light that you have. During this Holiday season, take some time to remember what the greater truth is and what you choose to believe.

“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I come with good tidings of great joy”

Luke 2:10“Christmas magic is silent. You don’t hear it— you feel it. You know it. You believe it”.

Love is essential because it builds us up and feeds our souls. Without love, the world would be a cold, dark place. Sometimes, we have to give first to prime the pump. The message of Jesus is to heal the brokenhearted and to open the eyes of the spiritually blind. Christmas time is about giving and receiving. Even though we may give a material gift, we do it from love, not guilt. We understand that giving is a blessing and a privilege.

On Sunday, we will continue discussing the mission of the Christ. We will answer the question about what Jesus meant when he spoke about the concept of salvation in the Bible. We will talk about how we can create the beloved community of heaven on earth. The practical message of the gospel is that we can have a happy and prosperous life here in this world, where it is needed!

We appreciate your generosity and how you show it and are grateful for those who can give a special offering to Unity during the Christmas season. Because of your thoughtfulness, the transformative message of Unity is shared with the world.

Join us as we light the advent candle for Love.

Why are peacemakers so important? It is because they express the true nature of divinity in the highest sense. Peace is created inside our being through quiet contemplation. As we calm our minds and enter the realm of infinite, divine creativity, we develop a more peaceful state of being.

There is a point of inner stillness at the center of your being. It is the meeting place of divinity and humanity. Through the spiritual practice of allowing worrisome thoughts to become less and less, a calming spirit of peace grows more and more.

It takes courage to speak your truth when the fashionable thing to do is poke fun at peacekeepers. Without peacemakers keeping the high watch, the world would descend into chaos. This Sunday, we will discuss Jesus’ mission and how we can better understand the light of peace.

“A bad habit is like a flat tire; if you don’t change it, you will never go anywhere.”

As we begin the journey of advent together, we will move from darkness to light. We will discover the keys of faith, peace, love, and joy along the path. These are the fruits of living an abundant life. Our demonstration of a positive spiritual practice set us up for a rewarding experience.

In this lesson, we will light the candle of faith. This will signify our belief and trust in a positive good. Faith is what will lead us forward on this journey with steadfastness and consistency. Faith is more about the journey and less about where we are going. Faith is invisible to the eyes and is more substantive than the food you ate for lunch.

Some of the questions that will be answered in this lesson are: what is the art of worship? Why is silence essential to our well-being? What does quantum science have to do with faith? How do I keep going when I don’t feel it?

Have you ever taken a gratitude day? A day so full of appreciation that your cup literally overflows. Gratitude is another word for love and will put you in touch with your good. It is a way we can demonstrate how we really feel inside. We can project our feelings and thoughts to others around us. We turn off the fearful words, pictures and actions of disconnectedness and we focus totally on the all loving goodness of the universe.

Thanksgiving is a sacred holiday that invites us to send love and gratitude to the world around us. It is time to let go of the past and to embrace the present moment. Together we create a future that is worthy of us. We get to play in the fields of potential and possibility. What good thing is coming next? It may be easier to keep talking about the negatives, but it’s way more fun to envision the positive realities that want to manifest in our everyday lives!

Communion: The sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, this exchange can be on a mental, emotional or spiritual level. Communion is a moment of grace and inner reflection.

The ancient ritual of drinking wine and eating bread can be a beautiful way to remember our divine connection. By feeding on the words of life and drinking in the teachings of truth we discover more freedom and understanding.

We also gain clarity about our spiritual identity when we communicate with the Divine in the stillness of our being. Our inner listening is best when the mind is quiet. We shift our thoughts toward peace and the voice of divinity speaks.

From time to time, it is essential to clarify our mission and purpose and remind each other what our calling is and if we are on track to fulfill it. The mission and purpose of Unity of Greenville is to be “A haven of peace where everyone is loved and empowered through positive and practical spirituality.” We want to remain true to our mission to reach our destination or destiny.

What does it mean to be a “haven of peace?” What is included in the mission? What do we care about? What are we passionate about? What do we want to accomplish? What are the steps?

These are some of the questions we will be asking ourselves this Sunday. We want to inspire you to live your best life and be aware of Unity’s collective vision along with your hopes, visions, and dreams. “He who wishes to secure the good of others has already secured his own.” ~ Confucius

“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still, the vision awaits its appointed time; it is moving forward, and it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come and not delay.

Autumn is here; the leaves change to gold, red, yellow, and orange. Nature puts on a show of color and splendor. The nights are growing cold, and the days are warm. We live in a beautiful paradise! Life is lovely, for sure.

Wait a minute! This is also Halloween—the time of werewolves, monsters, and other creepy things that go bump in the night. Be fair warned; things could get spooky for you this Sunday. We wonder if you dare to come and face your shadow of fears. It may feel like a lot is going on in the world that brings up fear for you. That is understandable. But we’ve got some good news. Don’t worry too much about the ghosts and goblins; they can’t hurt you! Give them a sweet treat, and you’ll watch them run far away.

Affirmations

I choose love over fear today. My fearful thinking is not real.Fear is simply a story I tell myself in my mind.I let go of the story and the feelings attached to it.Today, I am writing a new story where fear has no place. When I am fully present, my fear goes away. The future no longer frightens me.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a simple way to deal with a challenge in your life? Relationships, family matters, stressful situations, and money shortfalls are common challenges you may be dealing with.

We are all connected to the spiritual forces of the universe, and we can connect with the Divine Source whenever we need or want to. Unfortunately, we live in a world that has accepted a negative bias. We try to deal with life strictly on the physical level. This is only one aspect of life and what it looks like in outward appearance. By answering the challenge through an energetic and spiritual awareness, I can get to the root of the matter. Unless we uncover the root, we will stay in the challenge and continue to generate it!

“You can decree a thing; it will happen to you, and the light will shine in all your ways.”

What does it mean to love yourself?

If we love ourselves, are we being selfish?

Can I be happy if I don’t love myself?

The ego persona is a fictional character created through beliefs, attitudes and reactions. The persona is like the moon and reflects the light of the sun/Spirit.

Loving self means to love all of yourself. Some aspects are easier to love than others. To be whole, we have to love all of the so-called good and bad parts, the whole self! This is the way to heal.

I am surrounded by people who love me and who I love.

I am worthy of being loved.

I attract people who can help me heal through love.

The love I have for myself and others is beyond words.

I am open to receive and give love.

Part 4 Of Our Prosperity Series!

We continue our series on prosperity this week with some questions. Is money the root of all evil? Is it wrong to have wealth? Is money good or bad? How can we manifest money when we need it? How can gratitude change our emotional state? We want to clarify some of these ideas and bring them into the light of understanding.

Science tells us that everything can be reduced to a few primal elements, and that even if the entire universe was destroyed, it could be built up again from a single cell. In like manner, you can expand or rebuild your wealth and abundance from a single right attitude which you persistently hold to. There is something about joyous persistence that can produce results in your life.

Sarah Sparks, author of, “144 Wealth Codes: To Unlock the Abundance Within” (sarahsparks.love) joins us in the discussion.

“Wealth is not his that has it, but his that enjoys it.”

Benjamin Franklin“Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.”

John Wesley “The blessing of God makes a person rich, and adds no sorrow with it.”

Proverbs 10:22

All of us have dreams that we want to see come into manifestation. We have worthy and attainable goals yet feel less than capable of reaching them. Did you know that science is beginning to hint at the reality of a realm where anything can and does happen? They tell us of a field of unlimited possibilities outside our usualthinking patterns.

The power to manifest belongs to all of us, and we do it daily. Wouldn’t it be great to become conscious about what we manifest? Once you understand this law of manifestation, you will want to work with it, see it bless you, and not hold you back.

My life is in harmony with my Divine Source.

I am co-creating life with Divinity.

I am aware of the creative power within me.

I now understand that I am responsible.

“Now faith is the assurance (evidence) of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it, the people of old received their commendation. By faith, we understand that the universe was created by the word of God so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible”

Hebrews 11:1-3“The atoms or elementary particles themselves are not real; they form a world of potentialities or possibilities rather than one of things or facts”

This is week two of our discussion on prosperity. Last week, we talked about blessing everyone and everything in your life. We want to look for and experience the blessings that are already there. We also discovered that our words are full of powerful energy. We have heard back from various people about how they are now paying closer attention to what they say. In this way, they can stop complaining before they start. You are invited to continue this simple practice and enjoy the benefits! Bless it all!

In this lesson, we focus on Intention and what ‘intending something to happen’ means. Unfortunately, most of our intentions can boost the ego for a temporary fix and not give us the desired outcome. We will discuss how intentions come from our spirit, not our brain. The brain is interested in doing rather than being. Do you know the difference?

Prosperity is a way of living and thinking, and not just money or things. Poverty is a way of living and thinking, and not just a lack of money or things.”

Eric Butterworth“As you become the power of intention, you’ll see your dreams being fulfilled almost magically, and you’ll see yourself creating huge ripples in the energy fields of others by your presence and nothing more. Until you transcend the ego, you can do nothing but add to the insanity of the world.

Wayne Dyer“Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will be refreshed.”

Proverbs 11:24-25

Prosperity is not only a way of living and thinking not only about money, but for your physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. A successful flourishing or thriving condition. Awareness that God’s good is everywhere, all the time.

Universal Intelligence has designed the world to be abundant so that all creatures can have what they need. Bananas grow in bunches as do grapes. Apple trees will grow and blossom almost anywhere they are planted. Most people with gardens will have an excess of vegetables to share. Nature is giving us a bounty of abundance to nourish and to feed us!

We are all supported by this Divine Source that wants us to be happy and always have more than enough.

“Words of truth, or affirmations, do not become true because you affirm them. You affirm them because they are true. You synchronize your consciousness with the reality of the truth.”

Eric Butterworth“Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow [seed] nor reap [the harvest] nor gather [the crops] into barns, and yet our Divine Source keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they are?”

Matthew 6:26“When I chased after money, I never had enough. When I got my life on purpose and focused on giving of myself and everything that arrived into my life, then I was prosperous.”

“There is just one more agreement, it’s the one that allows the other three to become deeply ingrained habits.” This agreement that we are to make with ourselves says, “always do your best.” Doing your best does not mean perfection, or mastery. It is simply the idea of doing your best in whatever circumstances you find yourself in.

Whatever happens, I choose to do my best. Not what someone else says is best, for me. It is what I believe is best. There is no judgment with these agreements. It is actually a self-evaluation, a review of how it’s going. Where should I direct my powerful focus in the world, right now? Doing your best means that you are fully embracing life. You are focused in the now and are using your gifts, talents and abilities for the highest good possible.

My best is not your best, and your best is not someone else’s best. Let’s agree together to always do our personal best!

Whatever you are capable of doing, do with all your might because there’s no work, thought, knowledge, or wisdom in the grave, which is where you are headed.

Eccl 9:10“You are what you believe in. You become that which you believe you can become”

Bhagavad Gita“When we’re growing up there are all sorts of people telling us what to do when really what we need is space to work out who to be.”

Elliot Page

The third agreement reminds us that almost everything we tell ourselves is an assumption. Humans have a great imagination, and there are so many ideas and stories that we can imagine. We listen to the voices in our head, and we start imagining what other people are doing, what they’re thinking, what they’re saying about us, and we make up stories. We fabricate a whole storyline that may or may not be true, but we buy it, telling ourselves that it is true.

One assumption leads to another; we jump to conclusions and take our story very personally. Then, we blame other people and usually start gossiping to try to justify our assumptions. Of course, by gossiping, a distorted message becomes even more distorted. We will be better off if we take this agreement to heart and practice it.

You can’t calm the storms of life when you let them bother you. What you can do is to remain calm and let the storm pass, as it will. Let calmness become a power in your life. Not overreacting or taking things too personally keeps your mind clear and your heart at peace, ultimately putting you in the driver’s seat.

Whenever someone says something negative about you, it’s really about them. It comes from their seat of judgment and belongs to them. Nothing is personal until you make it so.

“Blessed [morally courageous and spiritually alive with life-joy in God’s goodness] are you when people insult you and persecute you and falsely say all kinds of bad things against you because of [your association with] Me/Truth. Be glad and exceedingly joyful, for your reward in spirit is great.

Being impeccable with your words takes practice and time—it’s an ongoing journey! By practicing awareness, you can focus on thoughts and words that represent how you want to feel and communicate with others.

This lesson is based on the Toltec beliefs as shared by Don Miguel Ruiz. Toltec philosophy provides four agreements that help people make positive choices in what they think, say, and do.

In the book The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz shares his belief that many children are trained with a system of punishment and reward, which he calls domestication. We are told, “You’re a good boy” or “You’re a good girl” when we do what Mom and Dad want us to do. When we don’t, we are a “bad girl” or a “bad boy.”

People develop the desire to avoid punishment and crave external rewards. So, we continue independently to work toward what we perceive is correct, based on the views of our parents, religion, culture, friends, the media, teachers, society, and more.

These four agreements we make with ourselves can take us beyond our programming into greater degrees of freedom and success.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge in it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.”

Proverbs 18:21“Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs.”

A growth edge is an area of life you are working on improving. We all have them. Most of us don’t like to look at them. We don’t enjoy being uncomfortable and being out of our comfort zone. We are afraid of losing control. Could discomfort be a clue that we are moving in the right direction rather than a reason to revert to old behaviors? Whatever areas you have the most trouble with are the issues with the most benefit. Choosing only to do the easy stuff keeps you from pushing your boundaries and limitations.

Life will remain unchanged without a change in perspective, and we’ll be stuck in the same cycle of challenges. We need to see these challenges as opportunities for growth. We need to learn to tackle the hard things, as they are the stepping stones to our personal growth. These challenges are not obstacles but containers of potential. We need to dig deep to unearth the gold within!

Respect is one of the most vital and unifying aspects of human relationships. When we value each other, we can all rise and do well. Wise people nurture understanding, consideration, kindness, and honor. This is a sign of positive citizenship.

Respect is not merely an obligation but also a way to affirm one another’s dignity and worth despite differences in opinion, status, or background. We are all a part of the human family. Without respect for each other, we will lose touch with our humanity.

As American citizens, we can be a beacon to the rest of the world by showing forth our highest ideals. Phillip James Bailey once said, “Respect is what we owe; love is what we give.”

“Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone…just remember that everyone in this world hasn’t had the advantages you’ve had.”

F Scott Fitzgerald“First of all, then, I urge that prayers for yourself and others and thanksgivings be made on behalf of all people, kings, and those in positions of authority.” This practice can help us foster a sense of connection and compassion, leading to a peaceful and quiet life in harmony with divinity.

As part of this process, you use the mantra, “I’m sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you, I love you,” to acknowledge and take responsibility for any negative thoughts, actions, or emotions that may have contributed to conflict or disharmony. You are empowered to be an active participant in the healing process.Forgiveness is a choice; we can all heal by giving and receiving it. Nothing can change until we do.

Have you ever wondered what happens when we let go of control and allow life to unfold naturally? When we stop resisting, we no longer create an opponent or any of the blocks to the flow state. We can be our true and natural selves. Surrender leads to detachment, and then detachment leads to a flow state. That’s when synchronicity manifests abundantly.

Why should you want what you’ve got? What if you don’t like it? Am I stuck with it?

Here is a key: it’s all a unique gift exclusively for you. Life, in its essence, is a gift. It has bestowed upon you your distinct talents and abilities. Your mind, body, oxygen, and even sunshine are all gifts. Did you create any of these marvelous things? No. The most vital aspects of your life are all given to you free of charge. Your duty is to cherish them and enjoy what you have freely received. By appreciating what you have, you pave the way for more of what you desire!

Ram Dass said, “Be here now,” and that is the only requirement for a happy and fulfilling life. Whatever comes tomorrow is linked to what is going on now. The Creator has given us everything we need to thrive and prosper. So, let’s get on the gratitude train and see where it can take us!

And I said to my body, softly, “I want to be your friend. It took a long breath and replied, “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this.”

Nayyirah Waheed “Be here now.”

Ram Daas “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough to keep you busy.

It’s Mother’s Day, and we want to celebrate all Mothers in our Unity community. Around 1870, Julia Ward Howe called for a “Mother’s Day for Peace” dedicated to celebrating peace and eradicating war. As expressed in her “Mother’s Day Proclamation” from 1870, Howe felt that mothers should gather to prevent the cruelty of war and the waste of life since mothers of mankind alone bear and know the cost. This was one of the little-known ideas that sparked the beginning of Mother’s Day.

In this lesson, we share about the importance of the Mother energy that enfolds us all. No one person can hold all of the qualities that are needed to care for the whole of creation. It is a collective experience, a shared responsibility that we all are all a part of. The nurturing must come from each one of us.

We live in an interconnected universe. Physicists have shown that the observer and the observed interact and that energy and matter interchange.

Albert Einstein believed that we live in a friendly, supportive, interactive universe. Everything changes, but nothing ever really dies.

Jesus presented a very clear image of this loving and responsive universe for us to consider.

There was a time when we thought only certain things or specific people were holy. Our Unity understanding reveals that everything is holy now.

“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye…. we shall be changed.”

1 Cor 15:52You are God’s child; God’s love surrounds you and cares for you; God’s Life is yours. In the light of the Great Reality I see you perfect, free from the delusion of sin, sickness, death. Intercession Or Interference?

Interference is when we get in the way of another person’s growth process. Especially when not invited. To butt in and try to control others or their circumstances is manipulation. Have you ever tried to help someone and ended up making it worse?

How do we help others to make positive changes in their lives? Are we interfering with their free will if we do?

Spiritual Intercession is acting on behalf of another person from an inner level.

We are lightworkers here to make a difference and have a positive effect. The very definition of a light worker is to bring the light. Most people want to change but may be unable to because they’re stuck in distraction and self-sabotage.

When you understand your purpose, you become an agent of change and transformation; it affects the whole world.

“Non nobis solum nati sumus. (Not for ourselves alone are we born.)” ~Marcus Tullius Cicero

“The purpose of life is not just to be happy. It is to be useful, honorable, compassionate, and have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

Ralph Waldo EmersonJesus breathed on his disciples and said Receive the Holy Spirit, The Holy Spirit represents your divine potential.

AFFIRM:

Be infusedwith the energy of joy and excitement

I affirm a greater enlightened awareness.

I affirm your divine value and worth.

I envision you living your true calling. (seeing them smiling)

I affirm the higher power within you is rising and filling you with the energy of purpose and intention.

I see the release of any blocks to your many gifts and talents.

Through affirmative prayer:

We open the metaphorical blind eyes, deaf ears, and unlock the doors that hold them in limitation.Another way to do the prayer is for yourself and include others in the prayer. We are all one. As you pray for yourself you are also praying for others. You cannot reach inside a person and pull out their negative core beliefs. These blocks can only be removed at the inward spiritual level. Attitudes, feelings, hurts & wounds, rejections, fears, self-loathing, hatred are all energies that can be positively affected by interceding through affirmative prayer.

Remember, we cannot make decisions for others! We can positively influence them. Are you a spiritual influencer?

In Egypt, an ancient visual concept of the cosmos was envisioned as these enormous wings attached to the disk of the Sun. The wings represent Love and truth, the balance of the opposites. Charles Fillmore was attracted to the symbol of the Egyptian wings, and he adapted them to the Unity movement.

This life will never be without occasional storms. You want to build a shelter within yourself so that when a storm comes, you are safe. All birds know how to find shelter during a rainstorm. But the eagle avoids the storm by flying into a high place above the clouds.

Eagles can soar up to around 10,000 feet high. Using their wings to reach the proper height may take effort and power, but afterward, they can soar with little effort. You and I have these wings within ourselves, and we want to learn how to use them.

“No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings.”

William Blake“But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent (ego mind) into the wilderness (open spaces), to the place where she is to be nourished (spiritually fed).”

Have you heard, the end is near? For thousands of years prophets and seers have been predicting the end of the world. In truth there have been many endings and lots of new beginnings too. The concept of the world is made up of a system of beliefs, thoughts and attitudes and it is constantly changing. The prophets of old have also predicted a time on earth that all of nature and all of humanity will come together in peace and harmony.

Each time there is change in the world, there is a bit of chaos. We are transitioning between two ages right now in the world. We are moving to an age of grace and beauty.

“And they will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up the sword against nation, And never again will they learn war.”

Isaiah 2:4“The peace that we desire and need in the world is that which ‘passes understanding.’ It cannot come by treaties or agreements, or by wars and boundary lines. Peace can only come when people become receptive to it and become peacemakers in the process of expressing it from within.”

We are powerful co-creators when we use our intent and focus. To be able to concentrate on one thing at a time is a valuable skill.

We learn this process over time and there is no need to rush it or to become anxious about meditation. It is a gradual release from obsessive worry and fear.

It is letting go of the negative persona and forgiving (untying of the mind) rather than holding onto judgment, anger and fear.

Some people try to deal with meditation the way they dealt with things in the past. It is not a task to be conquered but a mindfulness lifestyle to be embraced and enjoyed.

“O Lord, you have searched me [thoroughly] and have known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up [my entire life, everything I do]; You understand my thoughts from afar. You understand my path and know me even in my sleep. And You are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue [still unspoken], Behold, Lord, You know it all. You have encircled me from the back and the front. And [You have] placed Your divine hand upon me.Such [infinite] knowledge is amazing to me; and it feelsIt is too high, as if I cannot reach it.”

Meditation is how we become more aware of the Sacred (God) Energy we are. By sensing the Sacred Energy, you are pulled within. Meditation is not a blanking out of the mind – it is paying attention to whatever arises and allowing it to move on without attaching to it. The word Prayer in Aramaic means “To set your mind like a trap and wait patiently for the thoughts of God to arise.”

A quiet mind is a useful mind. If your mind is full of the pictures, patterns, and predicaments of the past, you will be limited to an old paradigm. We must clear the pictures, release the programs, and change our situation.

“A good picture is equivalent to a good deed”

Last week we began discussing the power of strength and how to clear painful energy. We continue this important topic in order to ground it within ourselves. Being present with your emotional pain is the fastest and most direct way to deal with it. We want to unify and integrate all negative energy so that it can be used as fuel to accomplish good for our lives.

Instead of being controlled by emotional pain we can acknowledge it and discern the message it has for us. Yes, it takes time and patience to practice being with it, but what else is more important than healing your pain?

“When unity was attained of old, heaven became clear by attaining unity, earth became steady by attaining unity, spirit was quickened by attaining unity, valley streams quickened by attaining unity, all beings were born filled by attaining unity;and by attaining unity lords acted rightly for the sake of the world.”

Tao Te Ching“Those who know me as their own divine Self break through the belief that they are the body and are not reborn as separate creatures. Such a one, Arjuna, is united with me. Delivered from selfish attachment, fear, and anger, filled with me, surrendering themselves to me, purified in the fire of my being, many have reached the state of unity with me.” (4:9-10)

During the annual season of Lent, many people have observed prayer, and releasing of their bad habits since the first century. The idea is to give up something or release it to the Divine and do it consistently for forty days. These 40 days (plus six Sundays) begin on Ash Wednesday and end on Easter Sunday. The season of Lent begins on February 14th and ends on March 28th, in 2024.

Is there something you would like to see change in your life? Are you in denial that change is even possible? There is a reason why change feels so hard. It’s all inside of you. Are you ready to deal with thoughts and feelings that have become like an invisible pain barrier that keeps you from advancing forward?

Once you understand what holds the pain wall in place you can begin to dismantle it! It’s time to let go of the pain and stand in your true nature of strength and empowerment.

There are many things that we want and need in our lives. The first and most important of all is to find and engage in the practice of love. When you see people floundering, they have not yet committed to a life of love. When you find love, you discover purpose and connection. It is a complete package. Love works from a higher order and is naturally harmonious. Without love, we are not in harmony and alignment with the world.

“Imagination is the eye of the soul.”

Joseph JoubertAccording to the dictionary, imagination is ‘The faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images, or concepts of external objects not present to the senses.’ and ‘The ability of the mind to be creative or resourceful.’

Every romance novel was created through the imagination of the mind of the author. Writers are always creating something that was not there before, something that cannot be touched and seen, and so it makes sense that imagination is important in this process. It allows you to feel empathy and compassion. Romance is created through the use of the imagination. It is a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love. How can we know the Divine? What is your value and what are you worth? Do you believe that you are worthy? Do you believe that you are lacking in some way? Many people today do not know their natural innate value and therefore everything they do and say is influenced by a poor self image. In this lesson we will prove to you, beyond a shadow of a doubt, your true worth! That is a bold statement but it is absolutely true!

This is the last lesson in our series on making room for love.

What did Jesus mean by turning the other cheek? Should we allow others to walk on us? How do we deal with the troublemakers around us? In this discussion we will go deeper into what is meant by non-resistance and acceptance.

We will discuss a better way to facilitate hate, fear and confusion. Higher love will show us what to do and how to present true compassion and courage.

This is part 2 in our series Making Room For Love.

When we love others and feel loved in return, we are uplifted, inspired and happy. But when the love we desire is denied, when we feel betrayed, rejected, disappointed or even bored, our mood may plummet toward sadness and depression or escalate into anger and rage.

In this lesson we begin a discussion about healthy and loving relationships and how we can increase our awareness of one another in a positive way. Let’s make room for love!

Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the awareness of the God power within me. Affirmative prayer statements bring us wisdom, healing, and prosperity. Prayer is not just a list of wants and wishes, it is the connection of the individual mind with the higher mind so that we pray from faith and trust.

Charles Fillmore said it like this:

“An affirmation is a positive and orderly statement of Truth…By affirmation we claim and appropriate that which is ours”

WORD VITAMINS are Nutrient filled words. Words contain energy and life force!”

Want more love in your life? “Love is permeating my mind and heart. I am soaking in my awareness of beauty and love.”

NEED A MIRACLE?“Steady streams of grace are now bringing miracles into my life.”

READY FOR MORE FRIENDS? “I am now ready for a friend that I can give and receive kindness, love and respect.”

NEED PEACE OF MIND? “My mind is a habitation of peaceful thoughts and easy feelings.”

FAMILY?“I envision my family blessed with peace and grace. I surround them in love, light and divine awareness.”

bE MORE PRESENT?“I live in the now moment and I am always present.”

FOR OTHERS?I envision a steady stream of awakening energy filling the cup of this thirsty soul.

For the month of January, we look at the 5 basic Unity principles; OOMPA is a fun way to remember them!

This week, the 3rd principle of Unity reveals the power of our thoughts. Human beings create their lives through the activity of their thinking. Everything in the physical world has its beginning in the realm of thoughts. Life is an expression of the idea, “what we think about we bring about.” What you believe at the deepest level will show up in your life in some way, shape or form. The energy we resonate sends a signal into the universe and connects us with what we need and desire.

Thoughts are the blueprint for reality in the physical worldPositive or negative thoughts produce after their kind.Jesus said, “Ask and you shall receive.” “Principlesdo not change; humanity makes his or her own heaven or hell, just as they did two thousand or two million years ago”

Charles Fillmore“You are one thing only. You are a Divine Being. An all-powerful Creator. You are a Deity in jeans and a t-shirt, and within you dwells the infinite wisdom of the ages and the sacred creative force of All that is, will be and ever was.”

Anthon St. Maarten“If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn’t sit for a month.”

Cofounder Charles Fillmore spoke of Unity and Advent in a January 24, 1923, radio broadcast called “Christ Mind, the Second Coming of Christ.” He shared his thoughts on his understanding that “Christ is an idea in divine mind,” and highlighted the universality of the Christ, the divine essence that dwells in every human being.
