Chiante Williams-Ranel is a seasoned veteran in the field of behavioral therapy, who began honing her expertise with neurodivergent children during her time at Pepperdine University. While volunteering at a local elementary school, she discovered her lifelong passion for nurturing the unique learning paths of these children. After 8 years as a behavioral therapist, ascending to the role of Director at TOTAL Programs Learning Center, Chiante founded StarChild Interventions. What started as a focus on early intervention services has expanded to include ABA services, & a team of over 40 employees.
Catching the entrepreneurial bug after meeting his wife, Chiante', Sean Ranel made the pivotal decision to leave the traditional workforce. He now plays a crucial role in managing both the family's behavior therapy agency and their real estate investment firm. His ability to streamline operations and implement efficient processes has been integral to the success of their ventures. Together with Chiante, Sean recently launched the "Partners n Prosperity" podcast. The show aims to empower other couples with strategies for running a business and a family simultaneously, fostering a legacy of generational wealth.

Larry Humphreys has over 20 years of experience in working with neurodivergent individuals. He found his love for working in this field as a co-teacher for a special education classroom at Julian Singer School in West LA. He obtained his Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from National University. Upon becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2011, Larry established Behavioral Autism Therapies (BAT) with the goal of enhancing the quality of lives of neurodivergent individuals and their families. BAT is one of the most rapidly growing agencies in Southern California, servicing the East San Gabriel Valley, Inland Empire and San Diego areas.
BAT currently has about 20 BCBAs and 350 employees serving over 700 families. As of 2012 Larry has been an adjunct professor at National University, where he is teaching courses for the Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. BAT offers their employees the unique opportunity to be part of this program and fulfill their clinical hours while working. In 2019, Larry established Special Needz Coffee (SNC) to provide meaningful employment for neurodivergent individuals. SNC is currently operated out of a mobile trailer, which allows them to collaborate with organizations on their special events. The vision is to continue to empower these individuals and provide them with equal opportunities to have jobs that they enjoy.

To say that Fiona Gonzalez is a teacher, is like saying that a pterodactyl is a bird.. it's SOO much bigger than that!!!!! How so? First of all, she's a moderate/Severe High School/Adult Transition teacher, with a Master's in education. She's also served as a vocational Program Specialist. Prior to that, she served as a special education paraeducator for various age groups. But she's not just heavily credentialed. When she found that the materials at her disposal were a product of a "one size fits all" approach, she found herself consistently creating materials to meet the individual needs of her students. From her resourcefulness & her passion for serving, she created & founded Adulting Made Easy (https://www.spedadulting.com/) where in addition to her social media (https://www.instagram.com/spedadulting/), she inspires & serves on a daily basis. But WHO is she? Who inspires her? Find out as she visits with Shawn & Brian... on Just Two Dads.

Roe Brush, also from New Jersey, hails from Bloomfield, where she had a dream to become a special education teacher. Eventually her passion for hair styling & cutting hair came together with her compassion for the special needs community. The barber shop has been featured on various local & national media outlets.. especially of late. Join us to hear the amazing story of how these two caring individuals came to be where they are today.

Sylvia Lopez, her home, & spirit are all a bastion of inclusion. Much of the credit goes to the home her parents provided and raised her & her siblings in. It’s also why she’s such a staunch advocate for the marginalized and underserved. She’s a wife and mother of four adult children which includes one daughter who is neurotypical & 3 boys who are each on the autism spectrum. Sylvia & her husband had to make the unenviable choice to find alternative housing for one of her sons…then face the challenge of not being able to see him for months at a time during the Covid pandemic. She joins Shawn to share her journey…& her hope.

Kyle Jetsel is the father of six children, two of which have been diagnosed with Autism. For years, Kyle & his now deceased wife Shelly, struggled with raising their sons on the spectrum. It was like they were being asked to take a test they knew nothing about, for a class they never took, on a subject for which there was no guide. If they failed the test, they felt they failed their children. When traditional methods, books, & other suggestions failed to combat the stress of the situation, Kyle took matters into his own hands & became driven to find a solution, eventually doing so. Now he teaches that same framework & recipe to other families so they too can reap the benefits that he & his children enjoy.

Slipped through the cracks of special education, graduated high school with a second grade reading level, faced trauma, became incarcerated, started a personal trainer business in his native Pennsylvania, saw the pandemic bring his business to a halt, then took steps to change his life. How? By seeking treatment for his OCD diagnosis, changing his diet, re-committing to healthy nutrition, moving to California and doing something remarkable. Oliver decided to first face the fact that he could not read. He then decided to teach himself to read.
He went even further and decided to document it on social media, his self guided journey to literacy. His story has become a sensation covered by Good morning America, The Los Angeles Times, and Inside Edition. He hopes to inspire others as a motivational & inspirational speaker. He shares his story, as well as his vision, with just Two Dads.

November 10, 2021 | Episode 64
Shawn & Brian are joined by Jeniece Stewart & Thomas Dortch as they discuss having a blended family that includes both special needs & a nonprofit born out of love to serve siblings of those with special needs.
Jeniece Stewart is the true definition of a strong woman that never gave up! She lives by the motto that “I Am Enough.” The best part of her story is that it is only getting better. Her passion for womanhood, motherhood, and entrepreneurship exudes with every move she makes. She also has found her calling to serve those individuals and families in the special needs community.
She was raised in an extremely religious household and spent years looking for love in all the wrong places. She has experienced teen pregnancy, teen marriage, divorce, domestic violence, sexual assault and homelessness as a single mother. Being diagnosed with postpartum depression and not seeking adequate care, it took years to unlearn the belief that prayer was the sole key to a healthy mental state and it takes a lot of effort and commitment.
Jeniece Stewart was born in Stone Mountain, Georgia and graduated from Shiloh High School. She is a wife, mother of seven. Her passion and service was discovered early on. This passion began with her second oldest son, Christian Garcia, who has autism and epilepsy. She not only saw the need to advocate for the autism and epilepsy community, but for the entire family in the special needs community. This when she formed Special Needs Siblings, Inc. Special Needs Siblings is a nonprofit committed to raising awareness, support and resources for the siblings of disabled individuals. She continues to lead this charge and this has led to her evolution.
She is now a public speaker, writer and blogger who fights for both the special needs and minority communities. Two years ago she created JL! Marketing which has a focus on helping non-profits grow. She created this Company along with her loving husband, Thomas Dortch III. They continue this mission to connect underserved communities and organizations with platforms to use their voice.
Thomas “Trey” Dortch III, it is this is a survivor that continues to fight for himself and others. Depression and substance abuse are a part of his journey but that does not define him. Trey is defined by his character and passion. He battled with depression as young as 12 years old and substance abuse started before even graduating high school. Trey’s passion begins with helping those that have gone through the same struggles he has faced. The need to address mental health and substance abuse crises remains a global priority. Trey is dedicated to making a change!
Thomas W. Dortch, III is a lifetime member of the NAACP. He is a board member of the Andrew & Walter Young YMCA, a trustee of The Fulton-Dekalb Hospital Authority, a board member of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, and member of the Omega Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity. Most importantly he is a proud father of seven.

Shawn & Brian are visited by Alex Pearson, who was fairly recently diagnosed with Autism as an adult. She shares her perspective on how her diagnosis has affected her as a woman, advocate, & entrepreneur.
Alex describes herself as 'living in the gap between the Neurotypical and Neurodivergent' (ND) worlds, as she has always worked with and intuitively understood ND's, yet pretending to be Neurotypical, via her ability to hide her autistic traits.
A similar story to millions of ND women, Alex was misdiagnosed and misunderstood prior to this year, resulting in difficulties accepting and advocating for her needs at work. Because she struggled to even identify the source of her overwhelm, she ultimately experienced severe 'autistic burnout.'
She is now learning how to advocate for her needs with others and accommodate herself, and is sharing her journey, which has attracted over 290,000 followers and 3 million likes on her TikTok channel, @actually___alex.
Alex works with businesses to transform outdated misconceptions about autism alongside providing strategies for both employer and employee on how we can all best work together. Having received her M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Alex leans into her strengths around developing engaging, brief and informative educational materials and her positive nature to think differently about accommodations, well-being, and a supportive, inclusive workplace culture.

Brian & Shawn are joined by Natashia Kletter to tell us about her story, the communication system she designed & uses to help children in general & about her journey as a mom to a child with special needs.
After discovering gaps in the assistive communication systems for young children with speech delays and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder, Natashia Kletter from I Want to Tell You books designed a communication system that looks like a toy but functions like a communication device. Using her observations of her own special needs son and neurotypical daughter, she designed soundboard communication books that feature core communication words using photos, sign language, sight words, and audio buttons. Words like “more,” “all done,” “help,” “eat,” and “I love you” give young children greater self-advocacy, independence and reduce frustration.

Special Education Attorney & Special Needs Advocate Georgianna Junco-Kelman join Shawn & Brian in discussing special education needs.
Georgianna Junco-Kelman is the founder and managing attorney of The Law Offices of Georgianna Junco-Kelman located in Studio City, California. Ms. Kelman’s law practice is exclusively dedicated to the representation of students with disabilities from ages 3 to 22 years old. A fluent Spanish speaker, Ms. Kelman was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba and immigrated to the United States at the age of 10 years old. She received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Law, from the University of California at Los Angeles, graduating with Departmental Honors. She earned her Juris Doctorate Degree at the Whittier College of Law in Los Angeles, California and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1998. She has served a combined 16 years in the Autism Speaks Southern California and Inclusion Matters by Shane’s Inspiration Boards of Directors.
Ms. Kelman initially practiced in the area of criminal defense for 7 years, amassing an impressive number of “Set Aside” (case dismissal) findings in Driving Under the Influence Administrative Per Se hearings, of which she conducted over 3000. With no intention of leaving the criminal field, Ms. Kelman turned her aspirations to criminal prosecution but her career inadvertently and unexpectedly took a different direction. Ms. Kelman’s personal journey in the world of disabilities began in 2002, with the birth of her first child born with a congenital brain disorder detrimentally impacting his global development. Her personal experience with her son paved the way for her next professional endeavor, an exclusively special education law practice. The daunting experience in the attempt to secure her child’s special education services was an eye opener to the significant lack of educational supports and the shortage of adequate services to parents of children with disabilities. It was this rude awakening that ultimately led Ms. Kelman to the field of special education law.
Inspired by her own challenging journey with her little boy, and after meeting countless families desperately seeking assistance to navigate the tumultuous waters of the special education system, Ms. Kelman immersed herself in her next and most important life venture – shifting her career to the practice of special education law – creating the Law Offices of Georgianna Junco-Kelman in 2008, establishing herself as a respected leading expert in the area with a fiery and relentless approach.
“If it would not pass muster for my own child, it is not sufficiently appropriate for my clients’ children.” -Georgianna Junco-Kelman

Susan Fink is a marketing executive by trade, a 42 year old single mom, and and autism advocate, supporting other families who have children with autism/special needs through her podcast "Rise with the Light" and helping others push through what they are going through to reach their goals, working through their challenges as a mindset coach. She believes her purpose on Earth is to help other people, to take what she has been through, and what she has learned and worked so hard to push through, the deepest darkest times in my life, so that she could help others do the same.
Her personal accomplishments stem from the work she does to help others, but she's able to do this because of what she has pushed through herself, some of the darkest times in her life, to include:
cervical cancer
brain surgery
finalizing a divorce while 8 months pregnant (Separated from her ex, moved - out of their house and two weeks later found out she was pregnant - and decided to go it alone, while working full time and with a high-risk pregnancy)
an autism diagnosis for her son at the age of 3
losing 60 pounds primarily through making huge mindset shifts (She used to be 195 pounds, and have been able to keep off the weight for 2 years)
being single, on a single income, advocating for her son and ensuring he has everything he needs to support him and his challenges
The BIGGEST accomplishment for her is going through all of this and coming out stronger, with a stronger mind, heart and wholeness, grounded and able to help other people. This is her purpose.

January 13, 2021 | Episode 21
In this episode just Two Dads chat with Founder & Executive Director of WE Are Brave Together, Jessica Patay.
Jessica Patay is a mother, wife, and advocate/cheerleader for Special Needs Mothers. She has been married to her husband, Chris, for 23 years and they reside in the Palos Verdes area of Southern California. They have two sons and a daughter, all teenagers. Their second son, age 17, was born with a rare, medically complex genetic disorder, called Prader-Willi syndrome.
Because Jessica is passionate about serving, mentoring, and inspiring other Special Needs Moms, she launched and leads a non- profit organization called We Are Brave Together. WABT provides resources, respite, support groups, mentoring and inspiration for moms caring for children or adult children, any age, with any diagnosis, disability or challenge. She believes in the power of gathering to empower, strengthen and uplift moms in their unique, diverse and difficult journeys. WABT offers support groups, workshops, retreats and inspirational events. (During this quarantine, WABT is offering Zoom Support Group meetings. Jessica Patay is the host of Brave Together podcast, which can be found iTunes and Spotify. You can find out more about WABT at wearebravetogether.com and see their resourceful and inspirational posts on Instagram @wearebravetogether.
Jessica Patay has always been a lover of words, ever since 2nd grade when she declared she wanted to be a famous “arthur.” She has been blogging (off & on) since 2012 for moms and Special Needs Moms. Her superpower is her honesty in truth- telling from the trenches of Motherhood. She is a three-time alumnus with Expressing Motherhood, a stage show of storytellers and performers all sharing stories about motherhood.
Two of Jessica’s favorite quotes are:
"This is the power of gathering; it inspires us delightfully, to be more hopeful, more joyful, more thoughtful: In a word, more alive" --Alice Waters
"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." --Leo Buscaglia

In this episode Shawn Francis has a candid conversation with Rebecca Campol.
Rebecca Campol is a Canadian Autism/ Parent Blogger, from the Okanagan, BC. Her blog, https://www.meohmy.ca/ is a place where she provides readers an intimate and honest look at her family’s life with autism. Rebecca’s husband and 2 children are all on the autism spectrum.
Rebecca states:
“I am navigating this family adventure in all its glory. Our lives are filled with love, hilarity, and stressful chaos, which I would not change for the world. With a lack of verbal filters and a surplus of sensory irritants, there is never a dull moment in my comical household. I have surrendered and conformed to a very structured lifestyle. I am the family coach, advocate, and referee. In the words of my family, I am a thoughtful, caring person with obsessive tendencies and a love for everything cozy. It is true- I am a track-pant-wearing, bra-less preferring, medicated warrior. This is my life, my typical life in a very untypical world.”
Follow and join Rebecca for a dash-cam view of some of her best (and worst) moments with some tips, tricks, experience, and products along the way. Are you with an online media platform, print publication or community organization? Rebecca would love to work with you! She is available for: Podcasts, Interviews, Writing, Speaking Engagements and Product Reviews.
