My brother, Mike Boone, will be dropping his eighth jazz album this week. I'm going to do what I can to promote it. But first, let me take you back to a time when we didn't think something as ambitious as recording an album was even possible. This episode contains portions of a 2020 interview I had with Mike for my podcast, "Freelancer Survival Stories". At the time, first strain of COVID effectively shut everything down, cutting off the financial spigot of many gig workers.

There's a saying that goes something like this... “what we planned for ourselves isn't always what life has planned for us.” Hopefully, life's plans will have a better outcome than mine. My plan is to simply survive my recent chaotic happenings. It would be nice if life's plans are for me to absolutely triumphed!

Back in 2020, I my website got blocked by a certain Social Media platform for violating their Community Standards. It seems as though I unknowingly offended a certain group of "Friends". Three years later, in 2023, the next domino fell. I don't see myself as a rule breaker, especially if I'm unaware of the rules I'm breaking.

Welcome to Season 6 of my podcast, “Much More to Say”! I took a week off between the end of Season 5 and this episode. While I wanted to rest and relax, I just couldn't shut off my brain. But I do feel refreshed and my battery is recharged, and I'm ready to have another go at this show!

We've reached the finale of Season 5, and it's hard to believe that I'll be posting my 84th full episode of this show. If you asked me three years ago, I would have considered 20-25 episodes a success. After taking a short break, I will start production on Season 6. There are still some things on my resolutions' list that I haven't accomplished yet, but I will keep plugging away. In the meantime, take care and God Bless!

My creative juices are flowing. In fact, the ideas are gushing out. However, I feel that if I don't control the flow, things will soon dry up without me accomplishing much of anything. In my last episode, I quoted American poet and author Dorothy Parker, who once said that, “creativity is a wild mind and a disciplined eye.” That's all good, but how can I make that work? Stay tuned, and I'll tell you how.

“Getting off the dime” is a Native American saying that means to stop stalling and start moving. Just when I made up my mind that I would have to learn needlepoint as a way of spending my retirement years, I found the world of podcasting. Better yet, the world of podcasting found me. The precious shows that I've created or hosted over the years fell into a several categories, such as the Arts, Education, Self-Improvement, and Society & Culture.
This show is in the Personal Journal category. And what, pray tell, might a Personal Journal podcast be? It's like an audio (and sometimes video) diary where people talk about their lives or put forth their opinion on certain topics. It also has the added bonus of not requiring guests to be effective. Which is totally in my comfort zone.

That was until I got the email from my dear friend with his long-awaited, recently completed project attached. I decided to push my original episode idea back another week to give him his due. Maybe the timing of his email was a God Shot of sorts, because it could not have come at a better time.

To quote British Life Coach Matthew Hussy, "remember, the pain of rejection is nothing compared to the pain of regret."
Rejection is a normal part of life, and what’s more, it happens to everyone. Sometimes, it can feel like a big deal. Remember that there could be a million reasons for a rejection. Very few of the reasons are based on you having done something wrong. Try not to feel sorry for yourself, because there’s more to be learned from failure than success. And remember, rejection does not define you.

Happy New Year! I think I'll start the new year and the new season with my list of 2023 New Year's Resolutions. There were 15 items on my resolution to-do list for Calendar Year 2022. With the exception of the desire to attend church services occasionally, I started all of them and I've stuck with most of them.
We've reached the end of Calendar Year 2022, and now it's time for me to come up with my list of resolutions for Calendar Year 2023. I promise it won't be 15 items long, but it won't be just one or two items either. I will try my best keep my expectations low and my acceptance high. If I can do that, I can live with the results. Also, this show is going on a brief hiatus. When I return on January 4, 2023, I'll kick off things with my new list of New Year's Resolutions.
I planned to publish this episode this past Wednesday, but a medical emergency prevented that from happening. So here I am today, health restored, and expressing gratitude to all of the healthcare angels who went above and beyond to make me a healthier person and the world a healthier place!
We're nearing the end of Calendar Year 2022! After celebrating Thanksgiving, next up is Christmas, Hanukkah, and finally New Year's Eve, depending on the year! And as always, I wish you and yours had a safe and happy holiday! But for now, let's see how we did in keeping up with our New Year's Resolutions for 2022.
For some of you, patching and repainting some walls, picking up refills from the pharmacy, and signing up for Medicare benefits in a timely fashion may seem like no big deal. Doing those things without undue procrastination is a major feat for me. It means that I'm getting unstuck, getting out of my head, and getting out of my way!
Think of all your achievements. Do you feel proud of what you've accomplished? Or do you feel like a fraud? Do they bring you joy? Or do they leave you with the feeling that, one day, your cover will be blown, and everyone will find out that you just got lucky?
If you experience self-doubt, take comfort to know that you're in great company! Impostor Syndrome is typically associated with high achievers. So, if you feel like a fraud, chances are that you're more capable than you think. Real frauds never worry about this! They never, ever experience self-doubt!
To quote Canadian-American motivational speaker, Brian Tracy, "If you can dream it, you can do it. Your limits are all within yourself”. But if you don't have the courage or ability to dream, you can find what you need within yourself. Trust me, it's there!
I'm still feeling a little nostalgic. Today, I'm reminiscing about the games we played and the fun we had while living in the concrete jungle. Outsiders might think of it as surviving, but I truly believe we were thriving!
We're in the home stretch, so I thought that now would be a good time to check in once again on my Resolutions for Calendar Year 2022. Now is also the time that I start thinking about my Resolutions for next year. But today, I'd like to revisit the three music-related items on my list, and why they fell by the wayside.
I'm feeling a little nostalgic today, thinking about my childhood home. Hope you enjoy.
In the world of sports, we root for our teams... win, lose or draw. With the midterm elections upon us, I think I'll take the same approach. I'll vote for my people and accept the outcome. I'm too old to play any games and, by this time, too wise to fall for scare tactics. Go Team!
This marks the 50th full episode of this podcast! Thanks for supporting me by listening to this podcast and reading my weekly blog posts. God Bless!
I'm thrilled to be entering season 4 of “Much More to Say”. This season will present a new set of challenges, or should I say, growth opportunities. I'm ready to start this new chapter. Would you like to come along for the ride? Thanks, and tell a friend or two!
Three years after my health scare, what is the state of my existence? I'm happy, pretty damn healthy, happily married, a proud father and grandfather, and enjoying a retirement filled with pursuing my life's passions! In this episode, I'd like to thank just some of the many people who are responsible for me having this fantastic new life!
Over a decade ago, someone asked me what I wanted to do with the rest of my life? At the time, I didn't have a ready answer. For me to know "what", I first had to discover "who" I was. Then I could answer the "what", and all the other questions: "when", "where", "why", and let's not forget "how".
Because I've been here since 2009, I felt it was time to switch my sports rooting interests from teams based in NYC to teams based in the South. But this episode isn't about hardcore, or even passive, fandom. It's more about hometown pride, with me having felt that sense of pride for the first time in my life!
The American poet and essayist Mary Karr once said that “a dysfunctional family is any family with more than one person in it.” And here's a quote from an anonymous source that also fits this topic: “There is no such thing as the perfect family. Every family is unique with its own combination of strengths and weaknesses.”
Just because someone grew up in a dysfunctional family doesn’t mean there isn’t hope for them to grow up to live a healthy, balanced, and fulfilling life. At the end of this episode, I'll share the steps I've taken to heal from the effects of my mild dysfunctional upbringing.
Take what you like and leave the rest!
While keeping a family secret from the outside world may be advisable in some instances for privacy or protection, keeping secrets within the family can prove problematic.
Keeping can destroy relationships, children’s lives, cause suspicion and resentment, create a false sense of reality, cause illness, and lead to a life of underachievement. In this episode, we'll begin to dive into family dynamics and how they impact us for years, if not generations to follow!
Once again, I go back to my 2022 New Year’s Resolution #8, which is to “Attend Church Occasionally”. Well, I can tell you that this past Saturday, I found myself in a church, at a gathering. Not a service, but at a very special 12-Step meeting. It's been over two years since I've seen these wonderful friends!
This episode is a follow up to “Ep032: Are Those Seats Taken?” There I shared a number of reasons why folks want to attend church, as well as reasons for not wanting to attend, using surveys plus my own opinions. Today, I'll take a deeper dive.
2022 New Year’s Resolution #6: Watch less cable news and return to watching. After a while, sports watching brought on even more stress than political news. What really drives me nuts is listening to the loud "experts" who love the sound of their collective voices.
In this episode, without naming names I'll identify them, their behavior, and how we should deal with them. Now that I know how to cope, my only regret is not learning how sooner!
Insincerity is the action or practice of pretending to feel something that you do not really feel, or not meaning what you say. It is a sign of weakness, with some of the reasons being narcissism, control, and insecurity. Sincerity, even in error, is a sign of strength.
Fatherhood isn’t for wimps! It took me a minute to learn that for myself. It’s something that challenges me every day, even though my son, my only child, is over 30 years old, lives over 250 miles away in Atlanta, GA, and is a father himself. The worries never end.
He always thanks me for being a great Dad, but I would be remiss if I didn't take this opportunity to give a long-overdue shout out to the man who wrote the manual on how to be a good father.
Our car was recently totaled, with us inside! Physically we were fine. It was the other driver's fault, by his own admission. The police officer on the scene agreed, as did his insurance company. So, the processing of the claim should have been a slam dunk. That was until the humanoids started tinkering with a system that should work flawlessly, which always ends badly. A lot of people have horror stories in their dealings with giant corporations... here's mine!
This is the third week in a row that I’m publishing a new episode of this podcast. If I make it to five weeks in a row, I’ll find an interesting way to celebrate! But until then, let’s keeping moving forward!
Now that I’m working with a decluttered mind and can accept the fact that nobody is perfect, and that excellence is more than good enough, I can take on what I hope is the final roadblock. And that is speaking with my authentic voice!
Welcome back! In my last episode, I announced that I would try my best to publish a new episode every week! As a procrastinator, and a perfectionist, I know that I’ll have to get those character flaws in check if I’m going to come close to achieving my goal of a new episode each week, beginning now!
At the end of my last episode, I said I’d be announcing the new direction of this podcast. After working out most of the kinks, I've decided to do everything in my power to publish a new episode every week!
Will I be able to publish an episode of this podcast every week? I’d bet on it! But first I'll have to declutter my mind of all unnecessary and unproductive thoughts. Wish me luck!
Rolling down the highway, we find ourselves approaching the halfway mark of 2022. So, let’s use this time and this episode to bring you the final progress report on my New Year’s Resolutions. I will use the second half of this year to make steady improvement on the good habits I've adopted so far.
The end of this block of episodes is in sight! I’ve already given updates on 10 of my 15 Resolutions for 2022. I originally wanted to save Item 4 (“Keeping up the good work”) for last. As sort of a recap, or better yet, as a touchstone that I can return to from time to time.
But then it occurred to me… is it enough to just stick with these resolutions, or should I actually try to improve on them once they stick? I’m confident that by the end of this year (2022), I’ll be able to report to you that I’ve kept all the resolutions on my list. And that I've taken the next step and improved upon these new actions!
Item 8 on my list of New Year's Resolution for 2022 has me attending occasional church services. For reasons that are not clear to me, doing so presents challenges where there should be none. In this episode, I'll explore the reasons for attending as well as the reasons I might use to skip church altogether. This should be interesting.

I'm considering dropping Item 12 from my list of New Year's Resolution for 2022 (conducting interviews for this podcast). I came to the realization that this type of social interaction is something I can do without. I also discovered that being an introvert/loner isn't necessarily a bad thing.
That was then, and this is now. I am grateful that success in my life today doesn't depend on the number of zeroes in my bank account, but the love and respect of family and friends!

On September 19, 2020, I published the first episode of this podcast. The timing could not be better since we in the middle of a very heated general election campaign season. Some said the future of our democracy hinged on the outcome of that election.
Not sure how to proceed, I decided to kick things off with three "teaser" episodes, ranging in length from three minutes to seven minutes per episode.
Trying to be honest while not seeking to further incite the excitable masses, I covered three main points:
1.Listen more, talk less (The Divine Ratio)
2.Love your enemies (To Those Who Persecute You)
3.Get involved (Part of the Solution)
The response from listeners was positive, so the show continued. Over the past year, we talked about dealing with the pandemic. We also began to deal with the challenges of returning to a normal existence, especially the types and level of anxiety most are dealing with.
Entering the second season of this show, we shift our focus to fulfilling any hopes and dreams that we had to put on the back burner. The main lesson learned from the recent past is that the future is both uncertain and not guaranteed. And it’s never too late to strive for a happy outcome in life!
Here's to health, peace, and happiness! God bless!

These are challenging times. People want us to make decisions that will benefit them, with little regard as to how these decisions impact us, positively or negatively. I ask myself, are they trying to scare me into making a choice, or are they giving me the facts and trusting that I make a decision that is beneficial to all?
Are we totally screwed or is there still time to change course? You decide!

I have this small show with a small audience and even smaller prospect for future growth. That leave me with this question… “is it a failure? Am I a failure?” Here’s the short answer – Absolutely Not!
With hard work, honestly, and setting modest goals, this show has survived "pod fade" and completed its first year of production. So, I consider this show a rousing success - all the while still having fun producing and hosting it!

While we still have reason to be cautious, to grieve, and to doubt, we should be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. In this episode, I will try to explain why grumbling is a strategy that needs to be rendered powerless. Big ideas take time to become reality, with patience being the road to get us there.

In less than sixty days, the Biden Administration has accomplished quite a bit! The $1.9 billion Covid Recovery Bill was passed and signed into law. We are on the threshold of exceeding the President's goal of 100 million vaccinations in the first 100 days! Competence and compassion are the new order of business.
In this episode, we will embark on the task of evaluating the performance of this administration as it seeks to reestablish the United States of America as the envy of the world. We will also take a look at the opposition and try to explain the logic of their arguments.

It's in the contract. Typically, two or more parties compete for votes. The understanding is that whoever wins agrees to represent all constituents. But recent history suggests that's not the case. How do we get back to normal. We face our shortcomings head on! We must remind ourselves that there is more that unites us than to divide us. And we must do so quickly, because our real adversaries are watching our every move!

2020 was quite a wild ride! While we are assured to have a little more stability going forward, 2021 won't be a walk in the park either. In this episode, Ken will briefly touch upon some high and low lights of 2020, as well as a bright spot just over the horizon, the successful "Save Our Stages" campaign, spearheaded by the National Independent Venue Association! While all of our attention should be on the rollout of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, we're still having to keep a sharp eye on the presidential election that took place over one month ago. With the challenges to the results all but exhausted, we find still ourselves sleep-deprived with elevated blood pressure readings as we try to anticipate the "next move".
In this episodes, I'd like to give a shout out to a couple of cities (Philadelphia, PA and Atlanta, GA) who withstood withering attacks to hold the line for the democratic process. And since numbers rarely lie, I've packed this episode with raw percentages to support my claim!

This has been a rollercoaster year, with the coronavirus, sagging economy, and presidential election topping the list of challenges. Now we face the challenge of navigating our way through the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
While the current state of affairs is forcing us to compromise as well as improvise, we can and should, take a moment to create a gratitude list. As difficult as that seems, we still have a lot to be grateful for.
In this very brief episode, I will reveal my partial gratitude list. I ask you, my friends and family, to do the same. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
