Co-Dynamics, the Podcast: Recent Episodes

Lorraine Margherita

Collective Dynamics is about leadership and decision-making on the move. If you're afraid to ask what teal means or think that sociocracy is a sect, listen to this: in less than 10 minutes, we'll explore real-life examples and concepts of "non-traditional" governance, and see how they could help you manage and lead in a "traditional" organization. After all, managers and leaders all need ways to bring everyone together to overcome challenges, handle uncertainties and meet their objectives as fast as possible. This is the English version of the bilingual podcast : "Co-Dynamics".

Today we're focusing on two French companies, Maif and HOP! Why? because daring is the hallmark of their empowerment initiatives.

You'll find their full story thanks to the interviews in my book Shared Decision-Making in the Corporate Arena.

In the meantime, here are the 3 dimensions covered in this episode:

  • Changing perceptions and postures around management
  • How to make the most of your history as an organization
  • The journey and the key to the collective dynamics involved.

Contact me if you'd like to ask a question or suggest a topic for future episodes of the Co-Dynamics podcast, where we talk about collective dynamics in general, and empowerment and engagement as often as possible!

Learning from and sharing with other companies requires an open mind, imagine a kid in a candy store!I started creating this episode with the title "Nobodys is Perfect" --the final line of the movie "Some Like it Hot" by B. Wilder (1959).

About being perfect 100% of the time: Leading from Purpose, a book by N.Craig (CLI website)
Also: “Authentic Leadership Insights“, an article by the same N. Craig.

About a curious mindset: one reference happens to be Turn the ship around by D. Marquet --from the very submarine mentioned in an earlier episode!

UPDATE
Read this: "When writing this article, I never intended to paint anyone as a hero. At the same time, I believe that by tarring all TEPCO employees with the same brush, and always treating the utility as the bad guy, we deprive ourselves of the opportunity to learn a valuable lesson. Today's episode refers to the way I started digging into stories of companies that were making decisions in a different way and getting unexpected results.
If you want to know more:About creating a company to find better ways of working togeher: I refer to this quote by Brian Robertson, “How can we live and work together in a more full, more embracing, more powerful way? ” (in "The Discovery of an Evolutionary Algorithm" in 2014).

Some of the books I'm referring to are a collection of stories gathered among real-life companies that we will explore: F. Laloux's Reinventing Organizations in 2012, I. Getz's Freedom Inc. in 2009 (US) and then 2012 (France with L'entreprise libérée), JF Zobrist's La belle histoire de Favi in 2007, J. Lecomte's L'entreprise humaniste in 2016, to name a few. We'll get back to them in future episodes!

About being part of something bigger: among other sources, this relates to the definition of motivation by D. Pink in his book "Drive" (2009).
