There are 4 special needs students in the group around the age of 18 or 19. Other students in the group are being supported by their parents, some working 2-3 jobs.

She was born with a genetic disease that affects all her joints and the biggest issue was with her heart requiring valves to be replaced in her late teen and early twenties.

In today's episode, in another segment of Points to Ponder, we talk about suicide.
- Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US between ages 15 and 24
- 703,000 people commit suicide every year, globally
- Statistically, New years day has the highest number of suicide attempts
- Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the US between the ages of 45 and 53
- Every 11.5 minutes someone in the US is taking their own life
First off, if you or someone you know are having suicidal thoughts, don't wait for help. If you wait, it could be too late.
To contact the suicide crisis hotline, just call or text 988.
If the person that's hurting is you, don't wait, call or text 988 to communicate with an expert that can help you gain perspective on where you are.
Don't believe the lie that nobody cares about you and you are alone. The truth is that you ARE loved and you're NOT alone.
The TRUTH is that God loves you. The TRUTH is that Jesus died for YOU. You are loved more than you can ever know or imagine.
There's always a sign before someone takes their own life. If someone says they're in a dark place or if they say the holidays are hard on them. This could be a telltale sign that someone might be thinking about taking their own life.
Today's guest is Antanique Thomas. Antanique is a mental health therapist and counselor.
Antanique says, “There is no health, without mental health!”, and, “There is hope…even when your brain tells you that it is not!”.
Antanique takes great joy in helping people meet their therapeutic needs.

Alan Garbacik at Stockton Mortgage talks about the difference between a broker, a lender, and a bank.
The bank is going to take deposits, give you different types of loans, and can offer you a mortgage. They usually keep that mortgage and only have one source for shopping for interest rates, costs, and fees.
The broker only does mortgages, they send all of your documents and files to a bank they choose, and they shop around.
"A direct lender, eg. Stockton Mortgage, sits between banks and brokers, and we have our own mortgages we lend money for, and we keep them at Stockton Mortgages. We have 12 - 18 banks we can shop year-round as well. We lend money directly to consumers and oversee the whole entire process, from the consult to underwriting, to processing."

Brenda D Davis talks about listing a house and what to look for in an offer from a buyer. Brenda says she looks for the most stable, and most ethical lender when discussing with either the buyer or the seller.
Brenda isn't concerned with whether it's an FHA or conventional, she looks at the reputation of the company, both from the public perspective, but also from her personal experience with the lender.

John Cantrell

John Cantrell's upbringing was disciplined. He was raised to share his thoughts and feelings and to respect others. John first picked up a basketball at age 3 and hasn't put it down since.
He was a two-time state champion at Pontiac Central. John attended Chicago State. He 'walked on' the first year and had a full scholarship in year 2 at Chicago State.
John was nationally known. John had a couple of NBA workouts but his journey landed him playing basketball overseas.
John currently works with kids in the community. John's personal training company is called Dream Skills and is for kids aged 8-13. He also does training at the Pontiac recreation center, free for kids of any age. John is also part of the Project Excel Program, K-5, Mon-Wed.

The gun violence epidemic in our country is real. Even today we have young people in our backyard of Detroit, Michigan losing their lives to guns regularly.
