Listen to women of advanced maternal age share their journeys trying to conceive. Sometimes trying to conceive turns into trying to adopt, or trying to heal and move on, or trying to come grapple with the emotions and logistics of using donor oocytes, sperm or embryos. Sometimes it means needing a gestational carrier, like myself. Infertility can be caused by damage to sperm, oocytes or both. It can be due to physical and anatomical abnormalities and/or hormonal irregularities in both sexes, such as PCOS in women and low testosterone in men. Infertility can present itself as repeat implantation failure, repeat pregnancy loss and still births, high-risk pregnancies... this is not an exhaustive list. Infertility, whether due to age or something else, can lead to serious trauma-related mental health disorders such as complex PTSD, perpetual grief, depression and anxiety. Infertility robs you of the ability to feel joy or peace by casting a dark shadow over your life. When you reach the age where the time you've been alive now affects the health of your gametes, causing age-related sperm and oocyte damage, you are put into a new age bracket: Advanced Parental Age. You are often given abysmal odds, little hope of success and made to feel like an absolute crazy person for wanting to have a baby at "your age". NM discovered she had severe endometriosis in her thirties. After a foot of endo-effected colon was removed, she knew she would to need IVF to conceive her first child. Thankfully, it happened! Conceiving her 2nd child proved much more difficult with a hydrosalpinx making implantation next to impossible. NM endured years of battling endo, a diseased tube, and multiple losses, but donor eggs gave her and her husband the ingredient they needed to conceive their second child <3
Cay wasn't really sure if she wanted children of her own, being a teacher brings her a great deal of child-filled days. She decided in her later thirties to try for a child with her husband. After two traumatic losses, she finally had her beautiful baby girl.

Before turning forty, Tameka and her husband started trying for one more, but it proved more difficult than she thought it would be. After a silent miscarriage, she needed a break, understandably so. After another year and a half, they started trying again... and suffered another loss. Tameka decided to try LLLT and got pregnant the second cycle using it!

Hope met her husband at 38 and of course they wanted children together regardless of the paternal ages. After suffering a miscarriage, Hope was able to get pregnant again and conceive and deliver her first AMA baby at 39!
