The journey from captivity to promised land is the journey of the people of God. It’s the story that is told and retold all throughout scripture, and truly the whole of scripture could be told according to this theme. At the very center of the heart of God is the desire to take people out of captivity and deliver them into a land of abundance and blessing.
If our hope is to finish the journey and ultimately to make it to the place of abundance and blessing that God has for us, we need to know this story and in every stage see how God is working and what He desires from us.
Captivity begins where trusting God ends.
Captivity continues when our ruler is an oppressor.

When it comes to marriage, our culture often falls into two camps: those who half heartedly “just send it” and hope for the best, and those who back out altogether, trying to make their own path. More and more, we see people exiting marriages quickly while fewer and fewer are even entering marriage at all.
If what we said at the beginning of this series is true, that marriage is meant for good… then why does our culture seem to be convinced otherwise?

In this series, we are looking at the life of Elijah, a prophet who appears in 1 Kings at a time where the nation of Israel was led away to the worship of false gods. Their attitude towards The Lord, Yahweh, was apathetic and disinterested. His life shows us what it looks like to remain faithful to the One True God in a world that puts faith in other things.
