As musicians, many times we have the uncertainty of wanting to play a song from the first moment we hear it, we want to have the ability to conceptually and technically reduce what we are listening to, without a doubt it is one of the most complex tasks that we can carry out. and more when it comes to issues as complicated as this.

"What do you mean?", is an original song by the singer Justin Bieber that caused euphoria and was in the first places of the music charts worldwide, years after its launch, a group of music students from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, decided to cover this song and the truth is that more than one musician left us confused with so much virtuosity together.

The group called "5th Flo", had this initiative of creating cover, reharmonizing them and taking it to a musical level full of virtuosity when they had to carry out a project to advance the semester at the aforementioned university, since that moment they have come together and have taken their particular touch to the networks and the concerts of the university.

On the other hand, in this video I show a study technique for complicated subjects and the best thing is to divide its parts, study and analyze separately, without anxiety or haste in order to cover each segment in more detail and have greater certainty about what was recorded.

Keep in mind that virtuoso musicians prepare their lines and play them over and over again before recording them, so don't feel bad when it becomes difficult for us to carry out this task.

Esta noche quiero compartir con ustedes un video que representa mucho para mi y con el que puedo demostrar una forma que podemos aplicar al estudio del bajo eléctrico sobre temas o composiciones complejas.

Como músicos, muchas veces tenemos la incertidumbre de querer tocar un tema desde el primer momento que lo escuchamos, queremos tener la habilidad de poder abacar conceptualmente y técnicamente lo que estamos escuchando, sin duda es una de las tareas más complejas que podemos llevar a cabo y más cuando se trata de temas tan complicados como este.

"What do you mean?", es una canción original del cantante Justin Bieber que causó euforia y que estuvo en los primeros lugares de las carteleras musicales a nivel mundial, años después de su lanzamiento un grupo de estudiantes de música de la prestigiosa universidad Berklee College of Music en Boston, decidieron realizar un cover sobre esta canción y la verdad que a más de un músico nos dejo confundido con tanto virtuosismo junto.

El grupo llamado "5th Flo", tuvo esta iniciativa de crear cover, rearmonizarlos y llevarlo a un nivel musical repleto de virtuosismo cuando debían realizar un proyecto para avanzar de semestre en la universidad anteriormente mencionada, desde ese momento se han juntado y han llevado su toque particular a las redes y a los conciertos de la universidad.

Por otra parte en este video muestro una técnica de estudio para temas complicados y lo mejor es fraccionar sus partes, estudiar y analizar por separados, sin ansias, ni apuros para así abarcar más detalladamente cada segmento y tener mayor certeza sobre lo que se grabo.

Hay que tener en cuenta que los músicos virtuosos preparan sus líneas y las ejecutan una y otra vez antes de grabarlas, así que no nos sintamos mal cuando se nos dificulte llevar a cabo dicha tarea.

One of those bands that I started to listen to is precisely this "Tristan band" is an original R&B, funk and jazz fusion group from Holland, characterized by the powerful voice of its vocalist Jaycilee, and the incredible musicians that accompany it and that are an irremovable part of this project, Coen Molenaar, Frans Vollink, Sebastiaan Cornelissen, Guy Nikkels, they are responsible for absolutely everything (Arrangements, musical production, and performing musicians)

His compositions and his musicality have won places in the playlists of many musicians with a taste for funk-fusion since this is one of the things they do best.

ESPAÑOL Estos tiempos de pandemia en lo personal me ayudó a despegarme de algunos vicios musicales que traía arrastrando desde hace algunos años, uno de esos vicios eran escuchar siempre el mismo estilo y una rutinas súper estrictas con el instrumento poco productivas.

Así es como la pandemia me llevo a escuchar otros estilos, nuevos grupos y músicos increíbles que la verdad no me había tomado el tiempo de escuchar o de indagar sobre ellos.

Una de esas bandas que comencé a escuchar es precisamente esta "Tristan band" es un grupo de R&B, funk y jazz fusión original de Holanda, que se caracteriza por la potente voz de su vocalista Jaycilee, y los increíbles músicos que la acompañan y que forman parte irremovible de esta proyecto, Coen Molenaar, Frans Vollink, Sebastiaan Cornelissen, Guy Nikkels, ellos son los responsables de absolutamente todo (Arreglos, producción musical, y músicos ejecutantes)

Recuerdo que estaba viendo un video y se me atravesó esta canción en forma de publicidad y me llamó mucha la atención y más aún cuando vi de quien se trataba, ya había escuchado algunas canciones de la saxofonista Candy Dulfer y de verdad es que me parecían genial, pero esta superó mis espectativas y pensar que 2funk es parte de un disco un poco viejo.

La canción está cargada de un groove de batería bastante funk, con una afinación media alta en los que son los tambores de la batería, unas melodías en los metales bastante bonitas e imponentes, mientras existe un coro que canta con mucha convicción, sin duda hacen que sea un tema hermoso y bastante divertido a la hora de escuchar o tocar.

Es parte del álbum KEEP MOVIN' que salió a distribución en el año 2011, por desgracia escuché esta canción por primera vez en el año 2015 y desde el primer momento no pude sacarmela de la cabeza.

Lo que más me sorprendió cuando escuché por primera vez a OLE BORUD, es que indagando me di cuenta que es el creador de toda su música, es decir, es productor, arreglista y músico guitarrista, se encarga de escribir cada nota que ejecutará cada uno de los instrumentos, y lo realmente increíble es que ha llevado la música Cristiano a otro nivel.

Por desgracia la música cristiana dejó de ser atractiva musicalmente desde hace años, pero la creatividad de este increíble músico se ha encargado de rescatar y de hacer la música cristiana un verdadero manjar para los músicos.

Quiero contarles que una de las actividades que más me ha dado resultado para mi educación y crecimiento ha sido la transcripción de solo instrumentales, no solamente de bajo sino también de teclados, guitarra, saxofón y trompetas.

Llevo practicando esto desde hace algunos años, y es algo que brinda frutos y resultados a mediano plazo, siempre es algo que recomiendo y trato de fomentar esta práctica con mis amistades.

Lo bueno realizar esta actividad es que no solamente te ayuda a desarrollar el oído musical, sino que también podemos poner en práctica la transcripción o escritura musical y eso nos beneficiará mucho a la hora de leer partituras.

En lo personal, cuando determino estudiar un solo, suelo escuchar muchas veces las melodías, analizar los intervalos y luego de haber memorizado, me siento con el bajo y voy intentado poco a poco.

En el mundo del jazz hay muchos solos de saxofones que son extremadamente rápidos y que auditivamente son difíciles de captar, hoy en día hay muchos programas que permiten reducir la velocidad y esto facilita mucho más el estudio porque nos permite escuchar mucho más lenta la melodia en cuestión.

On the other hand, I made this video inspired by a track created by a great friend and drummer musician, the great "Daniel Cardenas", who currently stands out as a drummer in Mexico City, he lived for many years in Venezuela, I had the pleasure enormous to share and play with him on several occasions.

What inspired me to create something on this track was the base or the solid groove that Daniel provided on drums, that led me to the decision to create a bass groove but have a melodic touch at the same time.

Regarding the improvisation segment, for those who have seen several of my previous posts, they know that it is one of the arts that I have dedicated myself to studying and trying to understand the most for several years.

To this day there are many things within the art of improvisation that are difficult for me and that are somewhat complicated for me, that is why I usually repeat a few times within the improvisation segment, this is not bad, but the ideal is that within the dialogue the expression can be as less monotonous as possible.

ESPAÑOL: Buenas noches tengan todos mis amigos e integrantes de #hive, luego de un día de mucho trabajo me dedico a dejar algo por acá para todos ustedes.

Puedo decirles que no soy experto en la combinación de sonidos y de efectos para el bajo electrico, es un arte que no me he dispuesto a indagar del todo, sin embargo he comenzado a intentarlo y a tratar de conseguir un equilibrio entre la naturalidad y los efectos o sonidos sintetizados aplicables para el bajo eléctrico.

Por otra parte, este video lo hice inspirado en un track creado por un gran amigo y músico baterista, el gran "Daniel Cardenas", quien se destaca como baterista actualmente en la ciudad de México, vivió durante muchos años en Venezuela, tuve el gusto enorme de compartir y tocar con el en varias oportunidades.

Lo que me inspiro a crear algo sobre este track fue la base o el groove tan sólido que proporciono Daniel en la batería, eso me llevo a la decisión de crear un groove de bajo pero que tuviese un toque melódico a la vez.

Con respecto al segmento de la improvisación, para quienes han visto varios de mis post anteriores saben que es uno de los artes que más me he dedicado a estudiar y a tratar de entender desde hace varios años.

Hasta el día de hoy hay muchas cosas dentro del arte de la improvisación que me cuestan y que se me hacen un tanto complicadas, es por esto que suelo repetir algunas veces dentro del segmento de la improvisación, esto no está mal, pero lo ideal es que dentro del diálogo la expresión pueda ser lo menos monótona posible.

Me considero 100% fanático de la música latina, de la música caribeña y por supuesto como buen Venezolano, soy fanático de "GUACO", para mi un de las mejores bandas del mundo de la música latina, representa todo una institución, una FORMULA h academia musical.

Este video trata de un tema que realmente me sorprende el olfato que tuvo su compositor Jorge Luis Chacin a la hora de escribirlo en el año 2000 para el disco "EQUILIBRIO" y digo esto porque esta canción titulada " SEÑOR WEISS" habla sobre la crisis que hoy en día atravesamos los Venezolanos, habla sobre la pobreza y lo problemas sociales que hoy atravesamos.

Lo que me parece sorprendente es que podemos decir que fue una predicción o profecía a lo que hoy en día acontece en mi país.

En otro orden de ideas pero no menos sorprendente es la musicalización, ese toque de Funk, combinado de una pizca de salsa y timba cubana, hacen que este tema cause una montaña rusa de emociones, entre realismo y buena música.

However, the work that Lady Gaga has been doing, with her production team, has seemed magnificent to me, that is why I am guiding this here, the song is called "LOOK WHAT I FOUND", it is part of the Soundtrack of the Film " A star is born "which turns out to be quite good, and interesting, although with a slightly sad ending, but it is worth seeing.

The musicalization was incredible, many unreleased songs within this Soundtrack and the best of all is that it was Lady Gaga who was in charge of the female voice, while the actor Bradley Cooper was in charge of the male voice.

Es casi mitad de semana y muchas veces, se nos agotan las energía y necesitamos algo que nos dé un poco de vida y vitalidad, en mi caso suelo escuchar mucha buena musica para sacarme el estrés y sentirme un poco mejor.

Ahora bien, soy amante de la música pop y he podido apreciar la modificación que ha tenido desde hace muchos años, cambio que también tuvo la musica R&B desde hace muchos años, y realmente estas modificaciones o metamorfosis suelen ser buenas o malas dependiendo de las personas, lo gusto y las perspectivas de cada mente.

Sin embargo el trabajo que ha venido haciendo Lady Gaga, con su equipo de producción, me ha parecido magnífico, es por eso que guindo esto por acá, la canción se llama "LOOK WHAT I FOUND ", es parte del Soundtrack de la Película "Nace una estrella" la cual resulta ser bastante buena, e interesante, aunque con un final un poco triste, pero vale la pena verla.

La musicalización estuvo increíble, muchas canciones inéditas dentro de este Soundtrack y lo mejor de todos es que fue Lady gaga quien se encargó de la voz femenina, mientras que el actor Bradley Cooper se encargo de la voz masculina.

Sin más que agregar, espero disfruten, y les recomiendo la película.

Por acá, me tomo el tiempo de hacer publico este video en mi canal de @threespeak, tengo la idea de haber compartido fragmentos de este video (La parte de los solos), pero nunca lo he colgado completo, así que cumplo con dejarlo completo y en buena calidad dentro de este canal.

Este es un proyecto que pude concretar hacer algunos años, con un par de amigos muy talentosos, Elvis Amaya en la batería, y Brixio Mendoza en la guitarra y voz.

Para mi fue todo un gusto participar como bajista y co-arreglista, de este proyecto.

La idea de hacerle un arreglo diferente a este tema nace de que en las Iglesias de mi ciudad, se tocaba muchísimo esta canción y siempre la tocaban apegada al tema original, por lo cual decidimos hacerle algo diferente, así que dispusimos de nuestro tiempo y dejamos que las ideas sencillamente fluyeran, hasta el momento que decidimos grabar.

Todos sabemos lo importante que son los recursos en el bajo, la diversidad de técnicas que en este instrumento se emplean hace que sea un instrumento disponible para todos los géneros existentes en la actualidad, pero es necesario tener conocimiento del concepto que abarcará el tema en cuestión.

Quiero aclarar algo que podrán apreciar en este video, y es que no es base lo que estoy haciendo, simplemente estoy recordando recursos y técnicas (Slap - Impro - rearmonizacion), así que es normal que pueda sonar un poco sobrecargado, pero repito no lo hice con la intención de mostrar Groove, solo de recordar recursos.

Y creo que este tipo de prácticas también son muy importantes, y es porque muchas veces tenemos demasiado recursos en nuestro lenguaje musical que al no practicarlo simplemente se olvida, como también pasa con los adornos (Fills), con técnicas de Rearmonizacion o improvisación, e inclusive hasta con frases o groove en Slap.

This post for me is quite special, and the reason why I share it is because I want to show you part of what my beginnings in salsa were, a style that I consider to be a sea like jazz, and that I consider which is not my strong suit, but I really LOVE it.

This video is from 2016 (5 years ago), and I remember that by that time I could spend many hours studying and listening to a lot of good music. I had a lot of bassist friends who mastered the salsa style well but had no knowledge of how to bring the bass to a melodic level, so I took on the task (very confidently) of starting to create a kind of knowledge exchange, and so on. It was how I got into the world of salsa and they into the world of improvisation.

I watch this video and it fills me with joy because today I can see what I have advanced through study and dedication but it also makes me laugh because whoever is a musician and watches this video will know that I was thinking more about the melodies that I could support instead of thinking about the groove and the taste of the song (but only experience and growth gives us the ability to close in on the real concept of the song and leave the finger shuttle for other styles).

I consider this song to be one of the songs that Nelson Arrieta has hit the most in his career as a soloist and that it has an incredible flavor.

I express my gratitude to all the colleagues and bass musicians who challenged me in a healthy way to be part of this style, to understand beyond the notes, today, I feel that I owe them a lot.

ESPAÑOL: Saludos a todos quienes componen esta hermosa comunidad, siempre es bueno escribir por acá y dejar algo para que podamos interactuar a través de votos y comentarios.

Este post para mi resulta bastante especial, y la razón por la que lo comparto es porque quiero mostrarles a ustedes parte de lo que fueron mis inicios en la salsa, estilo que considero que es todo un mar al igual que el jazz, y que considero que no es mi fuerte, pero que realmente ME ENCANTA.

Este video es del año 2016 (Hace 5 años atras), y recuerdo que para esa fecha podía pasar muchas horas estudiando y escuchando mucha buena música. Tenia muchos amigos bajista que dominaban bien el estilo de la salsa pero que no tenían conocimiento de como llevar el bajo a un nivel melódico, entonces me tomé la tarea (Con mucha confianza) de comenzar a crear una especie de intercambio de conocimientos, y así fue como fui adentrándome en el mundo de la salsa y ellos en el mundo de la improvisación.

Miro este video y me llena de alegría porque hoy en día puedo ver lo que he avanzado a fuerza de estudio y dedicación pero también me causa mucha risa porque el que es músico y mira este video sabrá que estuve pensando más en las melodías que pude apoyar en lugar de estar pensando en el groove y en el gusto del tema ( pero solo la experiencia y el crecimiento nos da la habilidad de cerrarnos en el concepto real del tema y dejar la lanzadera de dedo para otros estilos).

Este tema considero yo, que es uno de los que más ha pegado Nelson Arrieta en su carrera como solista y que tiene un sabor increíble.

Hago público mi agradecimiento a todos los colegas y músicos bajistas que me retaron de manera sana a ser parte de este estilo, a entender más allá de las notas, hoy por hoy, siento que les debo mucho.
