We finally sailed Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Destiny, on a rare seven-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary and it delivered the exact kind of vacation we crave: less planning, more living. From the moment we boarded in Fort Lauderdale and stepped into the Grand Hall, we felt the switch flip into full cruise mode. Did we get to do everything we wanted even with the extra days? No - but that just means we'll have to go back!
We talk through embarkation day realities (including a brutal port traffic surprise), why Platinum status is a game-changer, and the surprisingly important little details like where to stay the night before and when not to overdo breakfast.

The Florida weather tried to run the show, but we still pulled off a packed Walt Disney World parks trip with plenty of snacks, storms, and hard-earned tips. Five parks. Three days. Were we crazy, lucky, or smart? Yes.
We start with the pre-cruise stretch: checking into Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, hopping to EPCOT, and attempting the classic “drinking around the world” challenge in World Showcase while thunder and rain keep forcing us indoors at exactly the right moments.
We also share one of our favorite adult breaks at EPCOT: Geo-82, the 21+ lounge inside Spaceship Earth, plus what it’s like riding Ratatouille now that the 3D is gone and how Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind hits when you catch a new song. Italy becomes our accidental home base again, and yes, we have thoughts about how easy it is to “get stuck” there once the snacks and drinks start rolling.
Then we splurge at Hollywood Studios with Lightning Lane Premiere Pass and explain how it works, what it costs, and why it felt like a true game changer for doing the park in a few hours without living on our phones. After a Disney Springs errand run, we got swept away at DVC's Moonlight Magic at Typhoon Lagoon.
Post-cruise, we go full bucket list with a Polynesian Bora Bora bungalow stay, Trader Sam’s, and July 4 fireworks from the deck. We wrap the trip with what was supposed to be a relaxing day, but turned into Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom highlights, including Nomad Lounge, a minivan pro tip, Tron, the Beak and Barrel pirate bar, and ride updates like a smoother Big Thunder and a refreshed Buzz Lightyear.

We planned a Disney trip, then swerved hard and surprised the kids with two nights at the Helios Grand Hotel, the on-site hotel with a dedicated entrance right into Universal Epic Universe. We handed our entire Disney’s Animal Kingdom plan to a roulette wheel and then had to live with the consequences. The result is equal parts strategy and chaos: a specific date in early March, a standby only game plan, and a strict mobile order food rule that forces us to think about real world logistics like what is actually open, where you can order, and how long it takes to get seated.
From there, we nerd out on wait time data and crowd forecasting, comparing predicted versus observed waits and sharing the tools we use when we want to go full theme park analyst. A seven-year-old hears one number, $100, and decides she’s going to earn it. Not wish for it, not wait for a birthday, not ask grandparents to cover it. A couple weekends ago we got to visit a new to us theme park, and a place that helped inspire Disneyland: Knott’s Berry Farm. Just 5 miles away from the Happiest Place on Earth, Knott’s features incredible thrills of its own, and offers some incredible food too. Our DVC resort overview series continues this week with a look at our happy place - Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. We’re talking about the new horror/comedy moving Screamboat, based on the original Mickey Mouse cartoon Steamboat Willie. We were lucky enough to get a preview of the movie and spend some time talking with director Steven LaMorte and producer/actress Amy Schumacher. Steven and Amy are deep Disney fans, and that absolutely comes through as a loving, yet bloody, homage to Disney characters and storytelling in the movie.

Stage Nine in Old Town Sacramento is an absolute treasure trove of all things pop culture and nostalgia. We spent the New Year holiday on Oahu at one of our favorite Disney destinations, the Aulani Resort in Ko Olina. There’s so much to do at Aulani itself, and amazing activities for the whole family around the island. We did a UTV tour around Kualoa Ranch, visited Pearl Harbor with the USS Arizona Memorial and USS Missouri battleship tours, and spent a day at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Of course we also enjoyed Aulani itself, complete with an impressive fireworks display to ring in the new year - both official and unofficial. What a magical holiday!

It’s our last retroactive trip report! This episode we look back at our 16-day trip to Disney World in August of 2021. The parks were still in pandemic mode and we had a LOT of DVC points to spend or lose. Our 3-bedroom suites at Animal Kingdom and Bay Lake Tower, and a 2-bedroom suite at Riviera, were great escapes from the heat and humidity!

Evidently, in spooky season VIP tours turn into RIP tours at Universal Studios theme parks. This week, in honor of the holiday this week, we’re talking about Alicea’s evening at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights where she, Sterling, Kaitlyn, and a good friend Sanae enjoyed the RIP Tour. After hours parties at Disneyland can be frighteningly fun, especially when your host is none other than Oogie Boogie himself! Victoria, BC is frequently a stop on many cruises in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska and is a gorgeous city with lots to offer. We were in town during out cruise from Vancouver to Hawaii last October and found ourselves back a few weeks ago to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. Since it’s a popular stop, we thought we’d share some of our favorite things to do in case you should ever find yourselves in this jewel of Southwest Canada. We had the opportunity to attend a sensory friendly performance of Disney’s Broadway show Aladdin in Seattle and it was an amazing experience. The performance was absolutely incredible, and with having seen shows on both the Disney Dream and Wish cruise ships just a couple weeks before, our appreciation and admiration for the DCL show cast and crew is off the charts. But more importantly, it was great to see the Seattle Theater Group and Disney work together to provide a welcoming and safe space for audience members who many not feel comfortable in a regular show. Kudos to STG, Disney, the cast and crew, and everybody else involved in making this special event possible.

We would NEVER pass up the opportunity to take a trip to Disney World, especially if half of our travel and lodging costs are paid for! Jon Armstrong is an incredibly talented magician who grew up in the Disney universe. He’s been on TV, played the famous Magic Castle in LA, and headlined in Vegas, but one of his favorite gigs is aboard a Disney Cruise. Kids, tweens, teens, and adults alike love his shows, and so do we! Jon was on our infamous March 2020 Panama Canal cruise and ended up performing over a dozen shows throughout the voyage. Sometimes your peaceful evening watching Fantasia on your home theater is interrupted. In our case Mickey’s adventure with the brooms and buckets came to life and we suddenly had 1500 gallons of water in our house’s second story. We were on the Disney Fantasy for a week-long Western Caribbean cruise right before Christmas, and while it was great to see a Disney ship all dressed up for the holidays and spend time with family, there were a few issues and frustrations encountered on our 14th DCL voyage. We bid 2023 a fond farewell and with a look back at all the Disney news that happened over the last 3 months of the year. “Wall-cot” is moving closer to turning back into Epcot; new Frozen and Zootopia lands opened internationally, and Disney finally announced anytime park hopping returns in early January! And there’s lots more where that came from.

Disney World is a magical place for the holidays, and even more so when you get your whole family together. We got tickets for all 3 generations of our family to enjoy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and it was an absolutely fabulous evening for young and old alike. There is an incredible amount of Disney history along Main Street USA in Disneyland, and we took a VIP tour to learn all about it. From window honorariums to plussed up soundtracks, all the way down to the light bulbs, there’s so much to take in on the Walt’s Main Street Story tour. The tour culminates with a visit to Walt and Lillian’s apartment above the firehouse, an opportunity every Disney fan should experience. Come along with us for a peak through Walt’s window….

We made our first visit to the brand new Villas at Disneyland Hotel tower last weekend. This Disney Vacation Club resort opened in late-September, and is quite simply an artistic masterpiece of Disney Imagineering’s take on mid-century modern design. From the rooms to the decor to the pool and the new Palm Breeze Bar, this place is a 10 out of 10 in our book. We can’t wait to go back!

We're joined by Brent Todd this week, who was the moderator/coordinator/lead-cat-herder of the Facebook group for our recent cruise on the Disney Wish. If you're not familiar with cruise groups, essentially these are community forums run by fellow cruisers on your specific sailing that allow you to meet others, ask questions and learn from folks who have cruised before, plan activities onboard, and generally get as plugged in as you want to the temporary little town that will be your upcoming cruise. We talk about Todd's experiences as a 3-time group admin, how he works to build community, and the benefits of participating in or even running a cruise group.

We close our our March 2023 anniversary coverage with a trip report covering all the awesome stuff we did in Disney World that wasn't onboard the Disney Wish. We got to experience Tron: Lightcycle Run during the soft opening, made our first visit to Space 220, had our camera phone stolen by a wild cowboy at Whispering Canyon Cafe, and tried to save the world at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. A few days in the parks. Several amazing meals. Lots of great times with our best friends.

This week we're joined by Jenna, who recently completed her first in person runDisney weekend during the Springtime Surprise event at Walt Disney World. After doing some local 5K and even a virtual half marathon, she completed a 5K, 10K, and 10 mile race in Florida. Jenna is proof positive that with a positive attitude you can do just about anything, and was honestly kind of inspiring for us. We conclude our tour of the Disney Wish by stepping through The Rose bar, and discovering the DCL fleet's newest adults-only dining experiences: Enchanté and Palo Steakhouse. While we didn't take the opportunity to dine in the Lumiere-inspired Enchanté, we were able to enjoy both a brunch and a dinner at Palo Steakhouse. Both spaces are stunningly gorgeous, and we can speak with authority when we say Palo Steakhouse carries on the DCL Palo legacy with flying colors. Don't listen to this episode hungry!

We're joined this week by our old friend McCayla, who's recently launched her own Instagram channel called Mickey_and_MC. Alicea and Nathan took a long weekend trip from Seattle to Orlando in late-April 2018 to meet back up with our amazing friends from our Mexican Riviera cruise the previous Fall. We reminisce about hanging out with amazing people, eating incredible food, having a couple drinks, and enjoying one of the most amazing mornings in Magic Kingdom imaginable. We even spent a day at Kennedy Space Center nerding out. This was a great trip!

This is the story of how we met some of our best friends, though the magic of Disney pixie dust randomly seating us at the same table for dinners on our "without the kids" September 2017 7-night Mexican Riviera sailing on the Wonder. We don't usually party like this, but we sure did this trip! It was a good thing we were sailing back-to-back, because we needed another 4 night cruise to ease back into reality.
There's a lot going on with Disney Cruise Line these days as cruising continues to recover from the pandemic and DCL welcomes 3 new ships to the fleet, and they just recently announced the purchase of a 4th new vessel. Our "Big Summer Blowout" vacation seemingly never ends. Nathan had the opportunity to work remotely from Florida while Alicea and the kids headed back to Seattle to start the school year. Highlights include a trip to Kennedy Space Center to see Artemis not launch, a new best friend in Abi the 3-legged pit bull, Nathan's solo day in the parks for his birthday, and a two-day double birthday celebration for Nathan and our great friend Bill. We also experienced the Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs Resort - what an absolutely beautiful building!

Returning for 2022, there were 7 after-hours events for DVC members across 3 of the WDW theme parks. One of the things you have to know about us is that we're different people when we're at Disney than we are at home, especially when it comes to spending time on a Disney Cruise with our best friends. The Crew parties hard, and that was especially true when it came to the fine dining options and drink tasting sessions aboard the Disney Fantasy this past August (2022). We partook in multiple officially hosted drinking sampling classes, several unofficial sessions with the amazing bartenders onboard, hit up Palo for brunch and dinner on the same day, and had one of the best meals we've ever had at Remy.

We continue reminiscing about our amazing 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Fantasy this past August, covering pretty much the entire cruise that we didn't get to last week! ;-) We had a blast with Aristocat Charters on Tortola, found the best bartenders on the ship, and luxuriated with our best close friends in the Grand Cabana on Disney's private island - Castaway Cay. A good time was had by all!

It had been 6 long years since we'd been on the Disney Fantasy, and it was SO good to be back. This time we were joined by our great friends and enjoyed a 1 bedroom concierge suite with a bump-out veranda. Talk about spoiled! This episode we talk about our port arrival experience, the concierge spaces, the kids club spaces, and our overall impression of the food onboard.

OMG - our lunch at the new Steakhouse 71 during our recent trip to see the Mouse in Florida was INCREDIBLE! This week's episode is our review of the reimagined Waves Restaurant, now going as Steakhouse 71. It's incredible food at moderate prices (at least for by Disney standards), and the 15 layer chocolate cake is to die for. Just make sure you eat before you listen!

Frankly, we're a little more in the latter camp, but we do start getting prepared long before that sleepless night. This week we offer our trip report for our Merrytime Cruise back in 2016 on the Disney Fantasy to the Easter Caribbean, with stops at Tortola, St. Thomas, and Castaway Cay. We got spoiled in concierge this cruise, had an incredible dinner at Remy onboard, sailed for the first time with Aristocat Charters, and enjoyed a cabana on Castaway. And of course there was plenty of Disney magic to go around.
Funnily enough, this episode comes out a week after we just sailed the exact same itinerary on the Fantasy - but during August instead of December and with our best friends. We'll be covering that cruise here soon!
We're back to Disney World on this week's episode as we remember our time in the parks before our Christmas Cruise. We stayed in a 3 bedroom grand villa at Bay Lake Tower with a beautiful view of Magic Kingdom and the fireworks - what a treat that was! Give a listen to find out one of our favorite places to view the fireworks from in the Magic Kingdom - and it's not where you think it might be. ;-)
Sometimes your travel plans take a left turn at Albuquerque. Sometimes they take a right turn in Orlando. This week we have to think on the fly as our travel plans change at the last minute and we have to defer our sailing on the Wish until the spring, and instead find accommodations for a week somewhere in Florida. Stressful? Yes. Amazing in the end? Absolutely! Hear how we pivoted from a 4 night sailing to a week at the beach, and even got a little spaceship action thrown in too.
The timing worked out and we were able to attend the first MNSSHP in three years! For those of you who don't know all the Disney acronyms, that's Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. We had a great time sampling some of the food, snagging some Mummy Mickey popcorn buckets, engaging with live actors on Pirates of the Caribbean, and enjoying the Disney's Not So Spooky Spectacular Dessert Party - complete with open bar and reserved fireworks seating in front of the castle! It was a dark and stormy night (literally), but we had fun anyway. Here all about it in this week's episode!

A tropical paradise to explore and enjoy, Maui is one of our favorite places on earth. While our Disney trips are often "go go go", time in Hawaii is the exact opposite for us. This week we cover the first half of our island hopping trip back in 2016, without the kiddos. Join us as we explore the rugged coastline, touch the stars, and have meals that we still dream about to this day.
Join us this week as we get a preview of the new Disney Studios and World War II exhibit at the Museum of Flight here in Seattle. Since we have a family membership to the Museum, we were able to attend a lecture by the exhibit's curator (and MoF Trustee) Kent Ramsey. This was a fascinating look at what Walt & Co. were up to during the war, why Donald Duck was so popular with the troops, and how animated films are put together. There's something in the exhibit for all ages!

Alicea had an opportunity to visit Disneyland a couple weeks ago all by herself. Flying solo in the parks has some definite perks, and can even be relaxing if you want it to be. Is Genie Plus worth it for a relaxing chill day in the parks? The answer may surprise you!
Visiting a domestic Disney park in 2022 is complicated, and the new Genie and Genie+ services, plus Individual Lightning Lane Selections (i.e. pay-per-ride "fancy rides"), and all the rules around how and when you can use them are a big cause of that complication, confusion, frustration, and added cost. This week we talk about these offerings and our experience with them in Disneyland over spring break. Spoiler alert: we're not fans.

We experienced Disney World with restrictions and shortages during the pandemic. And we're super-excited to see some of our favorite elements finally making a return in 2022.

We're DVC owners at Aluani, and this 2014 trip was our first visit to the "door knob" we'd purchased.
