Survivors Traveling Lightly: Recent Episodes

Annette Renee

Are you dealing with hurt from trauma in your life, but you are looking forward to feeling better? Are you looking for who you are after you have lost track of the person you are to be? Survivors Traveling Lightly will help you find ways to heal, people to help you heal, and then a path to discover who you are in this part of your life. Guests, along with myself, will discuss how we have recovered and found our thing or things we love to do. We will pick topics of interest to find out how to get involved and start doing that activity near you. A community of others who have traveled or are traveling through similar situations will come together to support one another, bring encouragement, and pray together if you want to join. I, Annette Renee, have traveled this road, and I have spent this year finding what lights me up, what makes me a better me, and finding my people to connect with, laugh with, and grow with as we walk side by side in this life.

In order to give to others we need to be filled with God and Jesus. We need to let the inpouring of the Spirit fill us for us to be able to give and love others. If we are worn out we will not be able to give fully to others.

God wants us to love others and share His love with them. We need to be able to take captive our thoughts to help our thoughts not spiral out of control and not allow them to bring us into depression, self-hate, anger, or bitterness.

As we head into November, I will be doing YouVesion Devotionals to help me focus on being thankful. I understand this can be difficult as you struggle to with healing from your trauma. We will be starting the the devotional 7-day Devotional Thankful by Vance K. Jackson.   I will make a thread for us to discuss the devotional in the Survivors Traveling Lightly Facebook page.

I have enjoyed his devotionals that I have done in the past.  I hope you will join me as we look forward to this Thanksgiving season.

I traveled to Winfield, Kansas to join a friend and her family at the 50th Walnut Valley Festival. I enjoyed worship God and focusing on Him and Jesus while I traveled. The stars were beautiful out on the country roads.
I camped out in the side yard of a large old house with a large group of close friends who were going to the festival. Their community they formed over the years shows the love of Jesus to others. They invited in other, included us in there time together, and made us feel welcome and wanted.
The Walnut Valley Festival's music, organization, appearance and feel invites one in to stay, relax, enjoy, and make friends. The delight of listening to difference blues grass band play throughout the day while relaxing has caught my attention and interest. I will be returning next year. There may even be more about the festival still to come soon.

From trauma to adventure, this is a short overview of my life, and how I started making a podcast called Survivors Traveling Lightly. I am finding ways to find who I am, who I want to become, and going after my dreams.
I had to learn how to process my thoughts, who I was in Christ Jesus, and how to forgive others but mostly forgive myself. Through times of counseling, prayer, meditation, and adventures,  I am discovering again what I like to do, who I want to be, and the path God is leading me on to help others do the same.
I am a mother of two wonderful young adults who are going after their dreams to become who they what to be also.

As Season One comes to an end, I am thankful for many things. Even in times of trial, we can lean on God and Jesus to guide us. They are near and want us to draw near to them. Spend time in prayer drawing closer to them. Start a prayer journal or gratitude journal to help you remember all the blessings you are given.
As summer comes to an end, changes in your life may be occurring. Know that these are not surprises to God and Jesus. They know what is going on in our lives and what will happen in our future. Rely on them.

Love and Forgiveness part 1 was on June 21st.

In this episode, we are discussing how we are told the greatest commandment is to Love the Lord your God and the second is to love others as yourself. We must learn how to love ourselves, to know that we are important, cared about, and are enough in Christ Jesus.  Then we need to share that love with others.
We also need to forgive ourselves and others. Jesus died on the cross to show us His love and to forgive us. We are called to forgive also. Us forgiving others does not mean they are freed from the wrong they have done us, but instead, it allows us to be healed from the pain, hurt, bitterness, and resentment.

Gina Conroy is back to talk about her adventures and life lessons as she navigated her life and dreams.

As a certified health coach, author, and speaker, Gina Conroy is passionate about sharing her trials and triumphs to encourage others in their personal health journey: body, mind, spirit, and finances.

First as a wife, then a single mom and daughter caring for a mom with dementia, Gina knows what it’s like to tirelessly give of herself to family, friends, and career, often times neglecting her own needs to the point of mental and physical exhaustion. She knows the sacrifice of saying “no” to things she really wanted in her life and watching others live the dream she was working so hard to create.

Not anymore. After losing 30 lbs. and gaining more energy than Gina knew was possible. Gina learned that taking care of ourselves in all areas of our life is not selfish, but necessary for us to be all we need to be to those in our life. In fact, Gina has learned taking care of her health has made her a better mother, daughter, friend, and business owner.

I invite you to hear Gina Conroy's story and learn how health and wellness starts in the mind and can overflow to those around you.

Please welcome my first guest, Carol McNamara. Mrs. McNamara was my counselor for over a year. In this episode, we discussed the benefits of counseling along with tools to help you heal and grow. While many consider counseling taboo in our culture,  counseling helps many people heal, learn how to process trauma, and deal with situations around them.

Carol Anne McNamara is a recently retired pastoral counselor with Plumbline Ministries. Carol Anne served with Plumbline Ministries for 23 years, and prior to that, she and her husband Rob served as campus ministers with Baptist Student Union in Southwester Oklahoma and Tulsa University for nearly 19 years. Carol Anne graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Social Work. Carol Anne continued her education in Ft. Worth, TX, by obtaining a Master's Degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Welcome to Survivors Traveling Lightly. Thank you for listening to the trailer for this podcast. I will be telling you about this podcast.
Are you a woman dealing with hurt from trauma in your life, but you are looking forward to feeling better? Are you looking for who you are after you have lost track of the woman you are to be?
