In this episode, Dr. David Gaines walks us through Galatians 4:21–31 and explores Paul’s illustration of two covenants: the way of slavery and the way of freedom.

Through the story of Hagar and Sarah, Paul reminds us that our identity is not built on our own striving but on God’s promise. In Christ, we are welcomed as children of promise and invited to live in the freedom we have been given.

This episode challenges us to ask:

  • Where are we relying on our own efforts instead of God’s promise?
  • What does it look like to live as children who are truly free?
  • How can we trust God’s work instead of trying to earn His approval?

May this message remind us that Jesus is the bridge from slavery to freedom, bringing us into the family of God.

In this episode, Pastor Tim Bathurst walks us through Galatians 1–4:20 and reminds us of a truth we all need to hear: our hearts are quick to forget the gospel.

Paul writes to a church that began with faith in Jesus but was being tempted to find identity, security, and righteousness somewhere else. Through Galatians, we are reminded that the gospel is not something we move beyond—it is the foundation we return to again and again.

Jesus has rescued us by grace, brought us into God’s family, and given us freedom that cannot be earned.

This episode challenges us to ask:

  • What truths about the gospel do we tend to forget?
  • Where are we tempted to add to what Jesus has already accomplished?
  • How can we live from our identity as sons and daughters of God?

May this message remind us that in Christ, we are forgiven, adopted, and free.

In this second week, Larry Smith continues the journey through Galatians 3:26–29, pressing deeper into the reality of the New Kingdom. In Christ, the old categories that once divided—ethnic, social, economic, and gender distinctions—no longer define value, access, or calling. The Gospel creates a new identity rooted in faith, not status.

This message explores how the Kingdom of God reorders our understanding of leadership, gifting, and participation in the body of Christ. If we are truly clothed with Christ, then every believer stands equally before God—heirs together of the promise, empowered by the Spirit, and commissioned for ministry without limitation.

Part 2 challenges us to live in alignment with what the Kingdom declares: one family, one faith, one inheritance. The question isn’t whether distinctions existed in the past—it’s whether we will embody the new reality Christ has established.

This Easter Sunday,

Pastor Larry Smith takes us beyond the empty tomb and into the lives of the often-overlooked witnesses of the resurrection.
From Mary Magdalene—the first to see the risen Jesus—to Peter and the disciples back at their nets, to the two travelers walking the road to Emmaus, we see a powerful truth: Jesus meets people in unexpected places, in their doubt, grief, and even their return to old ways. Some recognized Him immediately. Others missed Him completely—at first.

This episode invites us to wrestle with a deeper question:
Will we recognize the resurrected Jesus when He shows up in our lives—and how will we respond when we do?
Because the resurrection isn’t just something to believe in… it’s Someone to encounter.

Is that all you’ve got, Jesus?

As Gospel of Luke 19:28–44 unfolds, the crowd celebrates what looks like a victorious moment—palms waving, voices shouting, expectations rising. It’s Palm Sunday, and everything feels like the arrival of power, rescue, and glory.

But Jesus doesn’t meet their expectations—He rewrites them.

In this episode, we wrestle with a question many of us carry: What happens when Jesus doesn’t show up the way we thought He would? From a humble donkey to tears over a city, we see a Savior who refuses to fit into our limited vision of victory.

This isn’t weakness. This is a different kind of King.

Lean in as we explore how Jesus challenges our assumptions, exposes our shallow hopes, and invites us into a deeper understanding of who He truly is.

Because maybe the real question isn’t, “Is that all you’ve got, Jesus?”
…but “Have we been looking for the wrong thing all along?”

In this episode, Reverend Wesley Johnson II calls us to slow down—and that’s exactly what this season of Lent is about.

Before we move forward, we reflect.

Acts 2 shows us a Church devoted to what mattered most: the Word, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. No distractions. Just deep, steady devotion.

Lent invites us back to that kind of faith.
Less noise. More presence.
Less rushing. More surrender.

Because the way forward isn’t doing more—it’s returning to what matters most.

In this episode, Pastor Larry Smith walks through Galatians 3:18–25, helping us understand the purpose of the law and how it ultimately points us to Jesus.

Paul addresses three important questions about the law:
Why was it given? Does it undermine God’s promise? And how does it actually work in the life of God’s people?

Rather than replacing God’s promise, the law exposes our need and prepares the way for Christ. It shows us our sin, guards us along the way, and ultimately leads us to the One who fulfills God’s promise.

The good news is that the law was never the final answer. Its purpose was always to direct our attention and hope to Jesus.

So much of life teaches us that blessings must be earned. But the gospel tells a different story.

In Galatians 3:15–18, Pastor Larry Smith reminds us that God’s relationship with His people has always been rooted in grace and promise. The inheritance promised to Abraham wasn’t secured by human effort but by God’s faithfulness—and fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

Through Christ, we are welcomed into God’s family and invited to live with the assurance of children of God who stand on His promise.

Take a moment to rest in the good news: your inheritance isn’t something you achieve—it’s something you receive as a child of the promise.

Main Idea: God’s gracious promise, wrapped up in Christ, provides everything you need for your inheritance in God.

Jesus said you can’t pour new wine into old wineskins. So what happens when the King marks your life?

In Kingdom Wineskins: Marked By the King, Pastor Larry Smith walks us through what it means to become a new wineskin disciple — shaped by humility, reflection, and holy curiosity. This is about embracing hardship instead of running from it. Taking holiness seriously. Choosing love when it costs. Practicing forgiveness daily, sitting still long enough actually to hear God.

The question isn’t just “What is God doing?”
It’s “Where is the Holy Spirit trying to grow me right now?”

If you’re tired of surface-level faith and ready for formation that stretches you — this one is for you.

Jesus said you can’t pour new wine into old wineskins. When the Kingdom comes, it stretches us. It disrupts comfort. It refuses to fit inside systems that were never built to carry resurrection life.

In this message, Pastor Larry Smith calls the church to become wineskins that can hold what God is pouring out right now — not stale religion, but living, active Kingdom life. And when we make room for that new wine, our lives begin to carry the unmistakable aroma of Christ in a world that desperately needs Him.

This isn’t about hype. It’s about formation. It’s about surrender. It’s about becoming a people who don’t just talk Kingdom — we smell like it.

Passage: Mark 2:18-22

Jesus didn’t come to tweak religion — He came to flip it. And when He talked about new wine and old wineskins, He was warning us: the move of God will make you uncomfortable.

New wine stretches. It presses. It feels risky. When God’s Kingdom shows up, it won’t fit inside your safe routines, your polished systems, or your “we’ve always done it this way.”

Main point: When God’s Kingdom comes, drastic and expansive change is necessary.

New Life Philly, if we’re asking for revival, we can’t be scared of discomfort. Growth stretches. New wine needs new wineskins.

Following Jesus was never meant to be a solo journey. In this episode, Elder Bob Haymes explores how spiritual formation happens most deeply in community, as we learn to become like Jesus together.

Drawing from key New Testament passages—including Galatians 2:11–14, where Paul publicly confronts Peter—we see that even mature leaders need loving accountability, truth-telling, and community shaped by the gospel. Formation isn’t just about private devotion; it’s about shared life, mutual correction, and walking in step with the Spirit together.

This conversation invites us to reflect on:

  • Why community is essential to becoming like Jesus
  • How the gospel reshapes our relationships across differences
  • What loving confrontation looks like in a healthy church
  • How humility and truth help us grow into Christlikeness

Whether you’re deeply rooted in community or longing for it, this episode calls us to resist isolation and embrace the kind of shared life that forms us into the people of Jesus.

In this message for Sanctity of Life Sunday, Elder Jed Trott walks us through Hebrews 11 and the faith of Abraham—a faith that trusted God’s promises even when the path forward was uncertain and costly. He also shares his personal story of facing an unplanned pregnancy at 18, and how faith, not fear or cultural pressure, became the turning point.

In a culture where abortion is often seen as the default response to unplanned pregnancy in difficult circumstances, this sermon invites us to see faith as the means by which God leads us to a better way—His way. In this episode, Dr. Randolph Waters guides us through Jesus’ prayer in John 17, revealing the tension many believers feel between the pull of independence and the biblical call to interdependence. While our culture celebrates self-sufficiency, Jesus prays for a people who are deeply connected—sharing life, faith, and mission in a way that mirrors the unity of the Father and the Son.

Dr. Waters unpacks how true discipleship grows when we stop living as isolated individuals and begin embracing the spiritual, emotional, and practical interdependence Jesus envisions for His church. This conversation invites you to rethink what strength, maturity, and community really look like in the Kingdom of God.

In this message titled “Finish by Faith,” Greg Snow unpacks Galatians 3:1–6 with a clear reminder that what God begins by grace, we must not try to finish by our own effort. Paul’s words call us back to simple, powerful faith — trusting in the Spirit’s work rather than striving in our own strength. What was started by faith, we must also finish by faith.

In this compelling message titled “Which Jesus,” Pastor Larry Smith takes us to Matthew 27, where the crowd must choose between Jesus Barabbas — a man of power, force, and control — and Jesus Christ, the humble Savior who conquers through love and surrender. That same choice confronts us today: will we follow the Jesus who fits our desires for dominance and comfort, or the true Christ who calls us to die to self and live in His Kingdom way? This message challenges us to center our lives on the real Jesus — the One who redeems, restores, and reigns.

Scripture: Matthew 27:15–26

Pastor Larry Smith challenges us to choose the true Jesus — not the Barabbas of power and control, but the Christ who saves through love and surrender.

In this honest and hope-filled message titled “The Joy of Marriage,” New Life Philly unpacks Galatians 4:12–17 to reveal how the joy of marriage flows from the joy of the Gospel itself. When our relationship with Christ is renewed, joy can be restored in every part of our marriage — even where it’s been lost. This message explores:

  • The Joy of Marriage – how God designed joy to be central to covenant love.
  • The Loss of Joy in Marriage – what happens when grace and gratitude fade.
  • The Joy of Sex – how intimacy reflects the goodness and unity of God’s design.

The power of the foolishness of the Cross and The power of the weakness of Christ’s followers propels us to live differently.

1 Corinthians 1:18-31 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the
wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”
Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater
of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For
since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom,
it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who
believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach
Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to
those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and
the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the
weakness of God is stronger than men. For consider your calling,
brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not
many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is
foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the
world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the
world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that
no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him
you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God,
righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written,
“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

You don't need to worry, stay focused on God and he will take care of you

Matthew 6:25-34

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdomand his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Apprentices of Jesus are called to ONE FOCUS

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 “No one can serve two masters. When you take Jesus death for granted you miss the life he died for you to have.

Jonah 2:1-10 1 [a]From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. 2 He said:

“In my distress I called to the Lord,
and he answered me.
From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help,
and you listened to my cry.

3 You hurled me into the depths,
into the very heart of the seas,
and the currents swirled about me;
all your waves and breakers
swept over me.

4 I said, ‘I have been banished
from your sight;
yet I will look again
toward your holy temple.’

5 The engulfing waters threatened me,[b]
the deep surrounded me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.

6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down;
the earth beneath barred me in forever.
But you, Lord my God,
brought my life up from the pit.

7 “When my life was ebbing away,
I remembered you, Lord,
and my prayer rose to you,
to your holy temple.

8 “Those who cling to worthless idols
turn away from God’s love for them.

9 But I, with shouts of grateful praise,
will sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will make good.
I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”

10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

The God of creation took your sin on the cross and so we are no longer guilty, but innocent in the eyes of God through the power of Jesus Christ.

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”

Jesus lets us know there is an invisibility, a secretness to the Christian life that only God sees and that only God can reward.

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly, I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

As Disciples of Jesus, we are called to restrain ourselves from in-kind personal vengeance. Apprentices of Jesus are called to Spirit-empowered restraint. But in doing this we are also called to undermine, expose, and call out all forms of injustice, cruelty, and inhumanity - even at risk to ourselves.

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. In dealing with the issues of divorce and oaths, Jesus is giving us a deeper wisdom by which we can properly respect and value other people.

Divorce

31 “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’ n 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Oaths

33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

A biblical framing of stewardship helps us to functionally emphasize Godly usage of money and de-emphasize wordly usage as we are forced out of our indifference about money.

‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the LORD your God.’ LEVITICUS 19:9 & 23:22

When you seek for sexual fulfillment outside of God’s design it will never give you what God designed it to give you.

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. The message of the world around us is that messy lives and messy people should be cleaned up and thrown away so we can pursue happiness. But God in his infinite mercy and wisdom did not eliminate the mess of humanity. He chose a path of suffering that leads to redemption, glory, and joy. He invites us to follow him on this path. This means giving up a normal life and pursuing a messy life.

Luke 17:33Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.

Behold how good and pleasant it is,

when God’s people dwell together in unity.

It is like precious oil poured out on the head,

7 Deep calls to deep

at night his song is with me—

True peace can only be found by following King Jesus

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be
evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every
situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7

Christian Hope is rooted in Jesus Christ, comes from enduring suffering and never puts us to shame.

Romans 5: 1-5 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

will totally miss the mark.

Matthew 5:17-20
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.**

The Spirit-Led Church is a church where members are growing in their ability to hear and discern the still-speaking voice of God, in a way that transforms them to love with Spirit-empowered love. It is a church where people look honestly at themselves, their community, and their world, and they deeply lament every place where sin, evil and injustice have taken hold. The Spirit-Led Church is a church that is not afraid to linger in lament.

The Spirit-Led Church is also a church where Spirit-empowered and Jesus-shaped hope take root out of that lament, and brings kingdom inspired transformation and change to the glory of God. It is a church informed and empowered by the still-speaking voice of God to bring Jesus’ saving, healing, and delivering power, grace and love to every place and to every person that it reaches.

Noah needed to Trust and Obey God's Master plan through a very traumatic experience on the ark, and it led to being a representative of God in the recreation. Yet, the Earth still needed one more righteous than Noah to fulfill the earth's groanings: Jesus is the fully righteous God and Man who gives us eternal safety.

"But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded."

Have you been striving for a flashy faith instead of obedience rooted in God’s love for you?

**Do you find yourself listening to God’s voice more than you find yourself acting on your own impulses?

Father, As you bring heaven to earth, May I be obedient to your plan each and every day by presenting my body as a living sacrifice to present you with true and honest worship.

Jesus, I desire to be a part of your grace and mercy in this world. Teach me to listen to your voice and wait patiently for what’s best.

Holy Spirit, help me to trust you when I am filled with unbelief and can’t see you working in my life. Help me to be aware of your faithful love and timely intervention this week.**

Amen.

Did you know that Love is the most definitive and demonstratable attribute that reveals our awareness and understanding of the heart of God. See what the bible says about how to love:

We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this
command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Your effectiveness as a disciple of Jesus is not bound up in meeting standards that are impressive to the world but in the simplicity of knowing the crucified Christ.

9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

As a community, we willingly expose ourselves to the radiant light of God’s reality, knowing we must surrender to it and be transformed. We seek God’s presence and truth so that he will draw us closer to his heart.

As a community, we then hold our God’s reality to the world around us. We carry the revelation of the Father to the orphaned world; we declare his good news and living Word to the poor and broken; we demonstrate the reality of his kingdom by promoting his justice and righteousness.

What if the church of the Bible can be the church of today? Serving each other, loving each other, sharing needs and devoting themselves to God's teaching, worshipping God and to prayer. This is possible when we press into true Christian community together and love one another well. Life Groups is the most critical way we accept this challenge of intentional Christian Community that we see in the book of Acts.

When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, His tempting centered on one main thing: Identity. This is a core struggle for the average person and in Jesus' case, Satan focused on 3 main ways we can root our identity in rather than rooting our identity in being children of God.

Do Something, Be Someone, Own Something. Just like Jesus we struggle with our desire to fulfill our worldly identity on our terms when we should be leaning on our identity in God's eyes.

Pastor Larry talks through the need for emotionally healthy spirituality by explaining how emotionally healthy spirituality saved his life. There's a real difference between what many Christians have been taught about their feelings (to suppress them since Jesus already died for them) and what we find in the pages of scripture. God sent His son to bind up the brokenhearted, to free the captives and bring joy to those in mourning but often we don't feel like any of that has happened. We must bring all of what we think, feel and do to the feet of Jesus.

Returning to the story of Jesus, Pastor Tim shows us how this passage in Mark 12 in the parable of the tenants is directed towards leaders and connecting the dots from the passage before it we see that Jesus calls us to look to Him as the final authority and calls leaders to lead under that authority not to create their own controlling or abusive authority. When we struggle with authority, we have to go find more good authority that is under Jesus. We can't go and then create our own authority to live under.
