With a range of guests, including those who have played at a professional level, to those who play for fun at weekends, we want to raise awareness and support those with type 1 diabetes who have a love of the beautiful game. On this episode Brighty and Peachy get to chat with one of the leading lights of the brand new TDFC Women's Futsal & Football project Lucy Wieland about her story. Lucy was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes just under 10 years ago but she hasn't let it stop her from continuing to play football for her local club. Lucy now works with the condition in her job role with Diabetes UK, whilst supporting TDFC where she can. Lucy also talks about the power of peer support as well as her ambitions for the TDFC Women's project kicking off in April 2022. "Smithy", as the guys refer to him as, is currently presenting on the UK"s biggest sports channel and tackling a career in the media whilst living with Type 1 Diabetes after his diagnosis in 2015. On this episode Peachy makes his return from injury to join forces with Brighty to interview a new member to both The Diabetes Football Community and to the diabetes community more widely. The pair speak to Joe Wright a professional Goalkeeper who's currently the 3rd choice keeper at Millwall FC and in the last year was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. On this episode Brighty and Peachy sit down with their first returning guest, Scott Burrell, to talk about his recent experience with the London Marathon. Scott's a keen and talented runner who's also tackled to 2 DiaEuro tournaments with the UK Type 1 Diabetes Futsal squad and is well accomplished at managing his condition to deliver performance when he needs it. In this episode Scott shares his story from the day, the build up, the management of his glucose levels and the psychological impacts of running in such a big event! Brighty and Peachy sit down on this episode to chat with Jack Iredale, who is one of just a few professional footballers plying their trade in England who lives with type 1 diabetes. Jack is an U17 Australian international and has played over 100 games as a professional in Scotland, Australia and now England where he currently plays for Cambridge United in League One. All of this after he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 13! Jack now uses his platform where he can to support others with his condition, which has also recently won him a community award at his club. His story is incredibly inspiring and another one that we hope you enjoy....

In this episode of The Diabetes Dugout, Brighty and Peachy speak to Katie who's forging a career for herself in the women's game. Katie was diagnosed with the condition at a very early age and has fought through the challenges of type 1 diabetes to the point where she's now aspiring to be a full time professional. Katie's currently playing for Watford FC Women as a Goalkeeper and has also taken on the TDFC Womens project alongside Brighty and a group of highly motivated women who believe in bringing the TDFC ethos to a wider audience! James Fielden, through this hard work has attended over 900 sporting events, offering expert thoughts and opinions whilst commentating on a variety of sports. In this episode of The Diabetes Dugout, Brighty and Peachy got to sit and chat with the first Scottish player in the history of the European Futsal Championships for people with Diabetes. Ian Dingwall, or Dingy as many refer to him, is a huge Glasgow Rangers fan and was diagnosed with type 1 at the age of 21 with an important link in the family helping him to spot it. He has never let his diagnosis hold him back and has gone onto have a successful career whilst continuing to enjoy his sport. On this episode, Brighty and Peachy had the honour of sitting down with an inspirational man who means so much to so many within the diabetes community. Gary Mabbutt has played for the England National Football team and captained Tottenham Hotspur to an FA Cup win in 1991 all whilst living with Type 1 Diabetes. His example has inspired children and adults all over the world for decades to believe that their condition shouldn't stand in the way of achieving their dreams. For Brighty and Peachy especially, he's been a idol that helped them believe even in the darkest moments with their condition it wouldn't stand in their way. We talk about Gary's journey from diagnosis to playing for England and now being an ambassador for Spurs as well as vice-president of Diabetes UK. An incredible story which you won't want to miss... Brighty and Peachy sit down on this episode to talk to Graeme Armstrong to discuss his recent diagnosis with type 1 diabetes which occurred in 2019. He is a keen footballer and golfer, currently playing off 7 as well as having a year as professional footballer before type 1 came into his life at a Scottish Football League Club. Graeme found TDFC just over a year ago and has been an active member of the online community ever since. Ben has been a regular in the English Football League for the last 8 years, playing for 4 different clubs. He has won a playoff final at Wembley and been named in the league 2 team of the year and is currently starring for Stevenage. All this, after he was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes aged 15!
