Why do we stay in relationships with narcissistic partners for so long? Is it love? Is it a trauma bond? Is it childhood trauma? Lets explore some of the reasons why victims of narcissistic abuse stay with their abuser for so long.
Cognitive dissonance keeps a lot of us stuck in toxic relationships. And I am not just talking about romantic relationships either. I am talking about friendships, professional relationships, familial relationships , etc. It creates confusion and makes the victim doubt their intuition while giving more and more power to the abuser to carry their manipulative tactics and slowly destroy their targets mental and physical health.
Correction* Somewhere I mentioned "four letter poem", I meant four page poem.

I know it’s painful to be the collateral damage to someones else’s pathology...but I want you to remember something, their behavior is a projection of who they are and its not a reflection of you. They avoid you and refuse to give you closure because they know they hurt you. They knew exactly what they were doing and how they were hurting you and they did not care. Instead, they made a decision, yes, a conscious and deliberate choice to gaslight you, invalidate you, to make you feel shame. They made you carry their shame and their pain on your shoulders because they couldn’t dare look at it, much less acknowledge it. Every move they made was calculated. They couldn’t love you because they can’t love themselves and they couldn’t see you because they refuse to look in the mirror and see themselves.
You need to realize this in order to heal from their abuse. You were victimized and healing from that trauma bond is essential to your recovery.
