I recently spent a full day with one of the healthiest nonprofit boards I've ever seen, spread across the country, meeting mostly virtually, with 100% attendance, full fundraising participation, and zero circular conversations. And by the end of the day, I realized there was one thing this executive director never once did. It's probably the thing you're doing the most. In this episode, I share 7 lessons from that experience that every nonprofit leader needs to hear: from how great board meetings start weeks before anyone arrives, to why connection isn't a nice-to-have but actual infrastructure, to the most common mistake executive directors make that quietly turns their board into their managers. If your board is disengaged, inconsistent, or draining more than it's building, this episode will show you exactly why and what to change starting today.

What does it look like when a nonprofit team thinks like a business, not a charity?
In this episode, I sit down with the powerhouse team behind Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center: founder and CEO DiDi Ellis, Director of Development Erica Smith, and Donor Relations Manager Paige Thames. In 11 years, Kids Hub has grown from 1 paid employee to 21, from 1,300 square feet to nearly 7,000, and from grant-dependent to running one of the most creative individual donor programs I've heard of, including a Power of 100 Women giving circle that raised $149,000 this year alone. We dig into how they think about donor acquisition in a rural southern community, why the chicken plant became one of their sponsors, how they tell emotionally compelling stories without ever showing a child's face, and why Paige says fundraisers have the cushiest job in the building and should act like it. This conversation will change how you think about the ask. All of it.

Most nonprofit leaders play it too safe. In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on why a little “healthy delusion” might be the missing ingredient in your fundraising and leadership success. You’ll learn why being overly realistic can quietly cap your revenue potential, and how the right dose of ambitious, slightly unreasonable belief in your vision can get you into rooms, conversations, and opportunities you didn’t think were possible. This isn’t about ignoring reality. It’s about expanding it.

Something is missing in your recipe for success. Not a tool. Not a strategy. But something deeper: your inner grit. This isn’t about hustling harder or pushing yourself until you burn out. It’s about the strength you draw on when you’re tired, when the campaign feels heavy, when the grant report is due, and when your to-do list is longer than your capacity.
In this episode, I’m sharing why grit matters just as much as skill in fundraising, the mindset shifts that make it sustainable, and how to build your own reserve of inner strength so you can lead with clarity, joy, and resilience, even when the work gets hard. If you’ve ever felt like you’re running on fumes or questioning if you’ve got what it takes, this episode will remind you: you do. You just need to reconnect with it.

What does it look like when a 35-year-old organization that has never fundraised decides to go all in on individual donors?
In this special episode recorded live at GiveCon, I sit down with Penn Street, returning podcast guest, Development & Outreach Director at Aftersight, and host of The Blind Chick podcast. Penn walks us through Aftersight's transformation from a grant-only model to running successful sprint campaigns, including a $20K in 20 Days campaign that exceeded its goal and changed how the entire organization thinks about fundraising. We also dig into something most nonprofits completely overlook: accessibility as a revenue strategy. Penn makes the case that blind and low vision donors have money and want to give it to you, but your fundraising materials, events, and technology are making it impossible. Plus we talk about turning podcast audiences into email subscribers, using past guests as Social Street Team® members, and why your volunteer list might be the most underused donor pipeline in your organization.

What's the real difference between a donor who gives once and disappears and one who goes to bat for your organization in rooms you've never been in?
In this conversation, I sit down with Jaz' Vick, Managing Director of Development at One Goal Georgia, a pastor, and one of the most genuinely gifted relationship builders I've ever met. We dig into what it actually means to fundraise from a place of connection instead of transaction, why assumptions about donor capacity destroy trust faster than almost anything else, and the simple habits that have made Jaz' one of the most effective development professionals in the sector. We also talk about what scared fundraising costs organizations, what great leadership actually looks like for a development team, and why the next generation of donors gives Jaz' so much hope for the future of philanthropy. This one is equal parts tactical and deeply human, and I think you'll feel it.

Americans gave $592 billion to charity last year. That was a record year, in the same economy, in the same tumultuous climate, with the same donors everyone says are pulling back. So why does it feel so hard?
In this special session recorded live, I break down the summer fundraising forecast and make the case for why right now (not September, not year-end) is the most wide-open fundraising opportunity of the year. I cover what's actually keeping organizations stuck (it's not donor fatigue, it's messaging), why 60% of nonprofits are fighting over 0.4% of grant money, and how to run a focused sprint campaign this summer that seeds your strongest year-end ever. Plus real client results, live Q&A, and details on how to work with me inside The SPRINT Method™ and The Purpose & Profit Club®.

There's a marketing concept that applies directly to how nonprofits fundraise: some messages are painkillers, and some are vitamins. Painkillers solve immediate problems: urgent, scarce, make-or-break. Vitamins build something sustainable: aspirational, visionary, long-term. Most nonprofits accidentally built their entire fundraising strategy around one extreme or the other, and both extremes are costing them donors.
In this episode, I break down the difference between painkiller and vitamin fundraising, when each one belongs in your strategy, and what happens when you overuse either. I also dig into the dangerous gray zone I call vague vitamin messaging, content that sounds nice, means nothing, and converts nobody. If your campaigns are flatlining, your donors are churning, or your monthly giving program isn't growing, this episode will show you exactly why and what to do instead.

What does it look like to fundraise tens of thousands of dollars before a single wall is built?
In this episode, I sit down with Louise Henry, founder of Tim's Club, a nonprofit community space in Panama being built from scratch to support individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities. Inspired by her younger brother Tim, Louise spent years building an online business first so she could dedicate herself to bringing this vision to life. We dig into how she transferred her entrepreneurial and email marketing skills to nonprofit fundraising, how she uses Pinterest vision boards to hold belief before there's evidence, what a hard hat tour does for donor trust, and how her monthly progress reports keep international supporters connected and coming back. This is a conversation about clarity, courage, and what it really means to fundraise before you have proof, and it's one of my favorites.

I joined three powerhouse experts, fundraising event strategist Samantha Swaim, digital marketing consultant Julia Campbell, and Bloomerang CMO Ann Fellman, for a candid panel called "The Advice We Don't Put on Slides." No safe takes, no polished talking points, just the real stuff consultants say behind closed doors. We cover what nonprofits consistently get wrong, the trade-offs nobody wants to make, what actually moves the needle, and the advice we give all the time but wish we didn't have to. From a scarcity mindset to the 17 touchpoints it takes to convert a donor, from abandoning friend-raisers to stepping into CEO energy, this conversation is packed with the kind of honest, actionable insight you don't usually get in a conference session.

What if the pressure you're putting on your fundraising campaign is actually the thing slowing it down?
In this episode, I'm talking about something I watched play out on a Little League field this weekend: two coaches, same-age kids, same skill level, completely different energy, and completely different outcomes. And I couldn't stop thinking about how much it looked like what I see inside fundraising campaigns every single week. When you hold too tightly to a goal, when every quiet day feels like failure, when the whole campaign starts to feel like a final exam, that pressure changes everything: your messaging tightens, your team feels it, and your donors feel it. And ironically, the pressure creates the very outcome you were trying to avoid. I talk about what pressure actually does to campaign performance, why three of my clients inside The Purpose & Profit Club® thought they were behind when they were actually ahead, the difference between a dirty win and a beautiful loss, and what it really means to lead a campaign well all the way to the end.

Your donors don't need a goodie bag, a raffle prize, an auction item, a t-shirt, or a chicken dinner. If your fundraising strategy is built around giving them something in order to get something back, that's the give-get model, and it might be exactly what's slowing your organization down.
In this episode, I'm breaking down the difference between a real SPRINT™ campaign and an old-school fundraising method wrapped in new language. I talk about why events, raffles, auctions, and 5Ks aren't inherently bad, but why building your entire fundraising strategy around them adds friction, drains people's power, and quietly signals that you don't trust the mission to be enough on its own. If you've ever said, "Why don't we just do a raffle?", this episode is for you.

I recently got an email from a development manager telling me I send too many emails. She's not wrong for feeling that way, but that feeling is rooted in one of the most expensive beliefs in nonprofit fundraising. And that's exactly what I'm unpacking in this episode.
Today, I'm breaking down the data behind email frequency, what it actually costs your organization when you hold back, and why the inner monologue of "I don't want to bother people" is quietly limiting your mission. I talk about what the M+R benchmarks report actually shows about how many emails high-revenue nonprofits are sending, why campaign-based intensity is where your revenue is sitting, and what happened when one development manager followed the Easy Emails For Impact™ process and 9x'd their typical campaign results, without a single new donor on the list.

AI is everywhere right now, and in the nonprofit sector, it's making some organizations' fundraising sharper and others completely generic. The difference isn't the tool; it's how you're using it.
In this episode, I'm breaking down exactly where AI helps and where it quietly hurts your fundraising emails. I talk about the most expensive mistake I see nonprofits making - handing the wheel over to AI completely and treating the first draft like the final answer. I share how my clients inside The SPRINT Method™ and The Purpose & Profit Club® are actually using AI as a thought partner, not a ghostwriter, and what the difference looks like in results. If you've been using AI to write your emails faster but wondering why nothing is converting, this episode will show you why, and what to do instead.

If sending emails feels like something you dread, rush, or quietly avoid, this episode is for you. I walk through the seven reasons nonprofit emails aren't converting into donations, and I want you to listen not for what sounds good, but for where you recognize yourself, because the second you see it, you can change it.
From writing emails that are polished but completely forgettable to stopping too soon just as momentum is about to build, these are the patterns I see across organizations of every size, from solo founders to teams with 100,000 subscribers. None of this is about making yourself feel bad. It's about getting clear on what's actually getting in the way, because most of these are simple fixes that just take a little courage to do differently.

Somewhere along the way, many nonprofit leaders start carrying a version of their story that is heavier than it needs to be. A missed goal becomes proof they should be further along; a hard year becomes evidence they're behind; and what's tricky is that this story can sound incredibly responsible, measured, even accurate, but it's still a story. And it's costing you funding.
In this episode, I introduce the concept of the wound version versus the hero's version, and why the story you're telling about your organization (to your donors, your board, your team, and yourself) changes everything about how people experience your leadership and your asks. I walk through how to identify your wound story, rewrite it as the hero's version, and why this isn't about spin or fake positivity. It's about refusing to lead from a place that weakens you. Same facts → Different meaning → Different results.

Online fundraising isn't hard because your donors aren't online. It's hard because most nonprofit leaders were never actually taught how to fundraise in the first place, and that's exactly what I'm fixing in this episode.
In this follow-up to last week's episode on campaign frequency, I dig into why so many organizations try online fundraising once, don't hit their goal, and walk away convinced it doesn't work for them. I break down what a real SPRINT™ campaign looks like versus what most nonprofits do (sending one email, posting a donation link, and hoping for the best). I cover the data behind email fundraising, why your donors aren't as offline as you think, and why a donate button is not a strategy. If you've ever told yourself online fundraising just doesn't work for your organization, this episode will change how you see that.

Most nonprofit leaders assume that million-dollar organizations are doing something they can't: bigger teams, bigger events, bigger budgets. But when you actually look at how high-growth nonprofits raise unrestricted money at scale, the secret isn't size; it's speed.
Today, I break down why million-dollar-plus organizations run five to ten times as many fundraising campaigns per year as smaller nonprofits, and why that rhythm (not the gala or the grant cycle) is what actually drives sustainable funding growth. I make the case for short, focused, online SPRINT™ campaigns as the modern fundraising engine your organization can start using now, regardless of team size, budget, or donor list size. If you've been waiting for the perfect moment, the bigger team, or the windfall grant to grow your funding, this episode is your wake-up call.

What does it look like when a solo nonprofit founder stops playing small and finally breaks through her fundraising ceiling?
In this episode, I’m joined by Mary Muroski, founder and Executive Director of the Children's Legacy Partnership Foundation. After 20 years of teaching middle school and nearly a decade building her Uganda-based foundation (largely alone), Mary hit a wall. She was doing everything, raising from the same small circle of friends and family, and couldn't figure out what came next. Then she discovered The SPRINT Method™. Mary shares how she went from a $3,000 year-end campaign to hitting a $12,000 goal, achieving her first five-figure revenue month, and building the systems, confidence, and board accountability that will carry the organization forward. This is a must-listen for any small nonprofit founder who feels like they've taken their organization as far as they can go alone.

Sometimes the most powerful shifts in fundraising start with a simple decision: we’re not doing it the old way anymore.
That’s exactly what happened for Sophia Caputo and Jami Porzl, co-founders of Sharing Hope Africa. Balancing full-time careers, they were preparing for a large gala when they decided to pause and rethink their approach. What followed was a completely different fundraising path, one built on clarity, community, and focused campaigns using The SPRINT Method™.
In this conversation, we discuss what shifted when they stopped guessing and started fundraising with intention: activating their board, building donor momentum, growing their confidence in making asks, and planning for long-term sustainability, including a community chicken coop designed to eventually fund the preschool permanently.
This episode is a powerful look at what happens when strategy replaces burnout, and when small nonprofits step into bold leadership.

If your nonprofit feels stuck at the same funding level year after year, the problem might not actually be your donors. It might be your calendar.
In this episode, I’m introducing a leadership habit I call CEO Time. It’s the protected time where nonprofit leaders step out of the constant reaction cycle and focus on the work that actually generates revenue.
Too often, nonprofit leaders spend their weeks managing operations, responding to emails, preparing board materials, and solving daily problems. All of that work matters, but none of it directly builds the funding pipeline that allows an organization to grow. CEO Time is different. It’s where leaders focus on donor conversations, relationship-building, partnerships, campaign strategy, and the work that drives real fundraising momentum.
I’m sharing why so many nonprofits plateau financially, even when their missions are powerful, how leadership time gets misallocated, and what happens when leaders begin to protect even a few hours each week for revenue-generating work. If you’ve ever ended the day exhausted but unsure whether you actually moved your organization forward, this episode will help you rethink how leadership time shapes your nonprofit’s future funding.

What does the Winter Olympics have to do with monthly giving? More than you think. Watching Alysa Liu’s gold medal performance, I couldn’t stop thinking about magnetism, how some athletes make you want to cheer for them, root for them, watch them again and again. That’s the energy monthly giving requires.
In this episode, I explain why simply adding a “give monthly” checkbox to your donation form isn’t a strategy. Recurring revenue isn’t built through automation; it’s built through retention, campaign energy, and relational depth. Monthly giving is the result of belonging, not billing. If your recurring program has stalled or never quite taken off, this episode will help you see what needs to happen first, and how to build a system that compounds instead of resets. Monthly giving isn’t the engine; it’s what happens when the engine is working.

Most nonprofits think influencer partnerships mean celebrity shoutouts, paid posts, or “social media strategy.” That’s not what this is.
In this episode, I break down why influencer partnerships are actually about borrowed trust, not follower count. I explain why 99% of nonprofits are missing this opportunity, how to build true ambassador relationships instead of transactional posts, and why this works even if you don’t have a big budget. I talk about the Social Street Team® Method, why influence is a free visibility superhighway, and how to use it to warm donors before you ever ask. If your organization feels like the best-kept secret in town, this episode is your blueprint to change that.

What if your fundraising challenges aren’t about effort, but about design?
In this episode, I break down six indicators that your fundraising strategy may be quietly underperforming. If your team feels tired, campaigns feel heavier every time, or growth has plateaued despite working harder, this conversation will give you clarity. I unpack the hidden signs I see in nonprofit teams: overreliance on a few people, waiting instead of inviting, campaign cold starts, stalled monthly giving, and measuring success by campaign rather than by donor. This episode is about momentum, alignment, and designing a fundraising engine that compounds instead of resets. If you’ve ever said “we’ve tried everything,” this one is for you.

If you want bigger gifts, stronger partnerships, and more sustainable revenue, you can’t grow in isolation.
In this episode, I’m breaking down what strategic networking actually looks like for nonprofit leaders, and why staying hidden in your inbox is one of the fastest ways to stall growth. This isn’t about awkward mixers, cheesy pitches, or forcing yourself to be someone you’re not. It’s about intentionally placing yourself in rooms where influence, generosity, and decision-making already exist, and learning how to show up with confidence, clarity, and alignment. I talk about why familiar routines keep organizations stuck at the same revenue ceilings, how one conversation can collapse years of cultivation, and the exact types of rooms nonprofit leaders should prioritize if they want to raise more without burning out. If you’re ready to stop doing great work quietly and start building real momentum, this episode will shift how you think about networking forever.

I see this pattern constantly with nonprofit leaders: staying busy, staying loyal to systems and strategies that feel familiar, and wondering why results have plateaued. Today, I break down what I call the familiarity trap, the tendency to cling to fundraising tactics, tools, and routines not because they’re effective, but because they’re comfortable. I talk about how burnout often shows up as indecision, avoidance, and endless tinkering instead of forward momentum. I unpack why familiarity feels safe to the brain, how it keeps leaders stuck in low-impact work, and why decisiveness (not perfection) is the fastest way out. If you’re circling the same decisions, rewriting the same content, avoiding donor outreach, or telling yourself you’ll “deal with it later,” this episode will help you recognize what’s actually happening and show you how to interrupt the cycle with clarity and courage.

If you’ve found yourself feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or wondering how you’re supposed to do another year of fundraising like this, this episode is for you.
In this episode, I’m breaking down what fundraising burnout actually is and why it keeps showing up for capable, committed nonprofit leaders. This isn’t about working harder, pushing through, or needing more discipline. Most burnout isn’t solved by rest alone. It comes from carrying too many open decisions, too many mental tabs, and too much responsibility without enough structure or support. I talk about how stress cycles stay open in fundraising, how avoidance and indecision quietly drain your energy, and why clarity and decisiveness often bring more relief than another day off. I also share practical ways to close loops, reduce overwhelm, and rebuild momentum without burning yourself out again. If fundraising has started to feel heavy or unsustainable, this episode will help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and give you a clearer, more supportive path forward.

If you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and still staring at the same fundraising numbers, this episode is your reset.
In this episode, I’m breaking down why most nonprofit leaders don’t actually need more ideas, tactics, or tools; they need better systems, clearer priorities, and fewer distractions. I walk through the hidden reasons fundraising can feel chaotic, how “busy” can disguise stagnation, and what it actually looks like to move from reactive mode to focused, revenue-driving leadership. I talk about simplifying your calendar, choosing fewer strategies that actually convert, and building a fundraising rhythm that supports growth without burnout. This episode is for nonprofit leaders who are done carrying everything alone and ready to organize their fundraising to create momentum, confidence, and results in 2026.

What does it really look like to run a focused fundraising SPRINT™ without a gala, a big team, or running yourself into the ground?
In this episode, I’m joined by Megan Ihnen, Executive Director of Live Music Project, for an honest conversation about what actually changed when she simplified her approach and trusted momentum over perfection. In just two weeks, Megan raised 108% of her campaign goal, not by doing more, but by doing the right things in the right order. We talk about what happens when you stop overcomplicating fundraising, shorten the timeline, lean into direct, human asks, and activate the network you already have. We also get real about burnout, fear of asking, donor psychology, matching gifts, peer-to-peer fundraising, and why speed and clarity almost always outperform polish. If you’re feeling stretched thin, second-guessing your strategy, or stuck repeating tactics that aren’t moving the needle, this episode will help you see what’s possible when fundraising finally works with you instead of against you.

In this episode, I’m joined again by Nathan Ruby, Executive Director of Friends of the Children of Haiti (FOTCOH), who has spent more than twenty years raising major gifts, and doing it without relying on galas, grants, or flashy events. Instead, Nathan has built a deeply effective fundraising engine through micro events: small, relationship-centered gatherings hosted by board members and key volunteers.
Nathan walks us through the exact structure of these 45-minute “CPM events,” why they consistently attract the right donors, and how they eliminate the burnout, costs, and low ROI that plague traditional events. We talk about capacity-based invitations, board coaching, donor psychology, follow-up strategy, and why the biggest gifts usually happen after the event, not during. If you want a practical, high-impact, board-friendly strategy for securing major gifts in 2026 and beyond, this conversation will give you the blueprint.

In Part 2 of my 2026 Fundraising Trends series, we’re going deeper into the tools, tech, and leadership shifts that will define nonprofit growth this year.
If Part 1 was about strategy and visibility, this episode is about the systems and decision-making that actually make those strategies possible. I discuss upgrading outdated CRMs and donation tools, the rise of AI-assisted fundraising, the acceleration of donor-advised fund (DAF) giving, why leaders must color outside the lines to stay relevant, and how decision speed has become a key competitive advantage for nonprofits. I close with a look at the tech-driven donor experience, a world where frictionless giving, mobile-first design, SMS, and fast follow-up matter more than ever. If you’re committed to modernizing your fundraising and leading boldly in 2026, these two-part episodes are your roadmap.

If you want to grow in 2026, you cannot rely on outdated playbooks or wait for a perfect case study to tell you what to do. In this two-part series, I’m breaking down the real fundraising trends I’m seeing across every organization in my ecosystem, not theory, not headlines, not generic Google wisdom. These trends are based on live data, donor behavior, digital strategy sessions, leadership conversations, and thousands of campaigns across my programs, and they’re already reshaping how nonprofits grow.
In Part 1, I cover six strategic and visibility shifts that will define the highest-performing organizations in 2026, from audience growth as a core revenue engine to the rise of laptop fundraising, human amplifiers, scrappy leader-driven content, superfan retention, and the ROI of LinkedIn thought leadership. If you want to reduce lag time, lead with clarity, and raise more with less friction, this episode provides the roadmap.

If you believed the headlines this year, you’d think generosity was shrinking. Inflation up. Layoffs everywhere. Grant budgets tightening. Every sector talking about a downturn and uncertainty. But inside my world (thousands of podcast listeners, email subscribers, clients, and community members), the story was completely different. This year was record-breaking! Record-breaking campaigns, major gifts, digital fundraising wins, growth for my clients, and for my own business.
In this episode, I share the seven biggest lessons that created growth in a year everyone expected to be hard, lessons about donor behavior, clarity, courage, visibility, momentum, risk, and the kind of leadership that drives revenue even when the headlines say otherwise. If you want a roadmap for your next year (one grounded in data, psychology, and lived experience), this is the episode to bookmark.

If you’re worried you’re behind on year-end fundraising, take a breath; December isn’t over. In fact, the most generous days of the year are still ahead.
In this episode, I break down the three hidden psychological reasons donors give again before year-end, even if they've already given this month. I go deep into donor momentum, identity and reciprocity, and why “donor fatigue” is one of the biggest myths in our sector. You’ll learn how to use progress updates, public-facing goals, segmentation, tailored messaging, and consistent communication to activate second gifts without feeling repetitive or overwhelming. If you’ve been worried about asking again or feeling late in the game, this episode will give you the clarity, confidence, and data-backed strategy to finish the year strong.

Major gift fundraising is where many nonprofit leaders freeze, but not because they lack passion or skill. The fear lives in the body, the brain, and the stories we tell ourselves long before we walk into the room.
In this episode, I’m joined by Nathan Ruby, Executive Director of FOTCOH (Friends of the Children of Haiti), one of the rare EDs who has raised millions of dollars from individual donors, not foundations. Nathan brings 20+ years of experience in major gifts, donor psychology, cross-cultural fundraising, and what it actually takes to have confident, courageous donor conversations. Together, we discuss the neuroscience behind fear and rejection, how imposter syndrome shows up during big asks, why culturally we struggle to talk about money, and why donors actually want us to be honest and direct. If you struggle with fear, freezing, or overthinking around major gift asks, this conversation will change how you fundraise forever.

If you’ve hit that post-campaign wall, tired, drained, and wondering if anyone else feels the same, this episode is for you.
In today’s episode, I share what to do when you’re completely wiped from GivingTuesday or a year-end push but still have fundraising goals to hit. You’ll learn how to recover strategically (without going silent), re-engage donors who gave once, and use short “sprint campaigns” to rebuild your energy and results. Because burnout isn’t a sign that you’re doing it wrong, it’s a signal that you need structure, rest, and a smarter rhythm to your fundraising.

If you’ve ever caught yourself overthinking a donor email, hesitating to post, or waiting for “the perfect timing” to launch your next campaign, this episode is for you.
In today’s episode, I reveal the mindset pattern that’s quietly keeping you stuck: fear disguised as strategy. You’ll learn how to recognize when your “planning” is really just procrastination, why bravery always comes before clarity, and how to finally stop waiting for confidence to arrive before taking action. This is your invitation to stop playing small, lead boldly, and start moving your mission forward, even when it feels uncomfortable.

Every year, billions are donated on GivingTuesday, but only a small percentage of nonprofits turn that day into real momentum.
In this episode, I share exactly what the top 1% of nonprofits do differently to make GivingTuesday their biggest fundraising win of the year (without burnout, perfectionism, or chaos). You’ll learn the seven steps to lead with clarity, confidence, and courage, from creating a curated donation page to leading on email, activating your team, and treating the day like a 24-hour relay, not a morning sprint. Whether you’re a small shop or scaling organization, this episode is your roadmap to modern, high-converting campaigns that work, even when you’re short on time. Because GivingTuesday isn’t about doing it all, it’s about doing the right things, decisively.

If you’re ending your workday exhausted but can’t point to how you actually moved your fundraising forward, you might be caught in the fundraising busywork trap.
In this episode, I’m breaking down why so many nonprofit leaders confuse “activity” with “progress,” and how fear, comfort, and overthinking keep your mission stuck in motion but not momentum. You’ll learn how to identify low-ROI tasks, make courageous decisions that drive funding, and replace cluttered calendars with confident action that actually grows your organization. Because the opposite of busy isn’t lazy, it’s focused.

If you’re done following the same old fundraising playbook, the polite one that keeps your goals small and your growth stuck, this episode is your permission slip to break the rules.
In The Rule-Breaker’s Guide to Year-End Fundraising, I share how safe, “board-approved” strategies are quietly capping your potential, and how modern fundraisers are rewriting the rules to build momentum, trust, and record-breaking campaigns. You’ll hear how one of my clients ran two back-to-back campaigns that both exceeded goals by leading with authenticity, urgency, and story, not fear or etiquette. Because the truth is, safe doesn’t scale. It’s time to stop waiting for approval, stop softening your message, and start leading with conviction. Rule breakers don’t just raise more money, they raise more energy, excitement, and impact.

If you’ve ever hesitated to hit send, make the call, or follow up because you didn’t want to “bug” your donors, this episode is for you.
That fear isn’t really about your donors, it’s about you. It’s your ego trying to keep you safe from rejection, discomfort, or embarrassment. But every time you let that fear win, you lose more than a donation. You lose momentum, trust, and connection. In this episode, I share how I coach fundraisers to move from me mode to mission mode. Because when you stop performing and start leading, everything changes. You’ll learn how to reframe rejection, build confidence, and lead with courage instead of apology. Your donors aren’t tired of hearing from you; they’ve just stopped hearing you. Generosity doesn’t happen in silence, it happens because you asked.

If your organization never set up a GoFundMe campaign, you might still have a live, searchable page collecting donations right now — with funds routed through the PayPal Giving Fund and a 15–45 day delay before the nonprofit ever sees them.
In this episode, Christina breaks down:
You’ll also hear Christina’s take on why this move adds unexpected administrative burden for small teams during the busiest fundraising season of the year — and why the only ethical solution is to make this feature opt-in by default.

What if your next big fundraising win wasn’t about adding more grants, galas, or gimmicks, but about simplifying and believing it could work?
In this episode, I’m joined by Kim Wardlow and Penn Street from Aftersight, an incredible organization supporting the blind and low-vision community through accessible media, podcasts, and programs. They share how they went from uncertainty to running a $20K in just 20 days campaign that exceeded its goal, using storytelling, matching gifts, and genuine connection. We talk about how they built confidence, engaged their board, and reimagined fundraising as something fun, creative, and totally possible. Plus, they share how their growing podcast network and the White Cane Project are helping more people than ever. If you’ve ever doubted whether your next campaign could actually take off, this story is proof that it can.

GoFundMe recently created more than 1.4 million donation pages for U.S. nonprofits — many without notice or consent.
In this episode, Christina Tzavaras Edwards unpacks what this means for your organization, your SEO, and your donor trust. You’ll learn why these pages exist, how to check if your nonprofit has one, and the key pros and cons of keeping, claiming, or removing it.
Christina also explains why she’s advising nonprofits who’ve never used GoFundMe before to unpublish until they intentionally opt in — citing compliance, consent, and donor ownership concerns. Plus, she explores how AI tools like ChatGPT are reshaping donor discovery and why it’s more important than ever to control your digital giving experience.

Getting new donors feels exciting, new names, new gifts, fresh energy. But if you can’t keep them, you’re stuck on the hamster wheel.
In this episode, I talk about the retention wall, why most nonprofits struggle to keep donors giving year after year, and how to fix it. We’ll unpack why first-time donors ghost you, what for-profit brands get right about loyalty, and the exact mindset + strategy shifts you need to turn one-time givers into lifelong supporters. If you’ve ever wondered why donors don’t come back, or felt frustrated that your list keeps growing but revenue doesn’t, this is the episode that will change how you think about fundraising forever.

You don’t need to send more emails. You need to send the right ones.
In this episode, I’m breaking down the five email types every nonprofit must use if you want to double, triple, or even 9x your campaign results. These aren’t random updates or long newsletters that no one reads. Each type has a specific role in moving your donors from curious to committed. We’ll talk about why your current email strategy might feel flat, how to stop repeating yourself, and the exact sequence that creates urgency, connection, and momentum. If you’ve ever wondered, “But what do I write next?” this is your roadmap.

The fear of “bothering” donors has nonprofits sending fewer emails than Sephora sends about mascara. And you know what that means? Fewer emails = fewer donations.
In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on why silence in your donor’s inbox is way more damaging than showing up with short, story-driven emails. I’ll tell you why Patagonia, Old Navy, and Jimmy John’s can email you daily without you hitting unsubscribe, and why nonprofits should stop hiding behind once-a-quarter newsletters that nobody reads (hello, donor amnesia). This conversation is all about making email fun again and turning it into your #1 fundraising engine. If you’re tired of being ghosted by donors, I’ll show you how to stay top of mind, raise more money, and build genuine relationships… all from your inbox.

I had the pleasure of hosting Michael Murphy, Director of Development at Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial, and one of my Purpose & Profit Club® members. Michael’s story is proof that you don’t need decades of fundraising experience to see major wins with email. In fact, in his very first nonprofit role, he took one of my frameworks, Easy Emails For Impact™, and turned a $1,900 campaign into a $9,000 campaign. We talk about what it means to ditch the “dry C-suite style” newsletters, why personal, story-driven emails outperform every time, and how confidence grows when you let go of perfection and just hit send. Michael also shares how he’s building monthly giving campaigns, blending direct mail with digital, and learning to embrace new tools without losing sight of his mission: honoring veterans across generations.

Nonprofit leaders love to default to newsletters - long, clunky, “Fall Update”-style emails stuffed with program blurbs, raffle announcements, and event reminders. But newsletters don’t raise money. In fact, they train donors to skim, ignore, or unsubscribe. In this episode, I break down why newsletters flop, what you should be sending instead, and how shifting to single-topic, story-driven campaigns can multiply your revenue without adding more work. You’ll learn how to replace the newsletter grind with an email system that actually sparks giving, builds donor trust, and scales with you.

This episode is for the nonprofit leader doing “all the right things” (you’ve got peer fundraisers, events, email blasts, major donor asks) but you're still not hitting your campaign goals. Sound familiar? It’s not your fault. It’s your foundation.
I recorded this episode fresh off the launch of The Purpose and Profit Club®, and after talking to so many of you, I noticed the same trap over and over: layering modern tactics on top of weak campaigns. If your messaging isn’t emotionally resonant, your campaign lacks urgency, or your structure is shaky, no amount of frosting will save it. In this episode, I break down why your campaign might feel like a “collapsed cake,” what a high-converting campaign looks like, and how my SPRINT Method™ helps you build a strategy that actually works (without the burnout or overwhelm). If you're tired of working harder for diminishing returns, this is the clarity you need.

I’m back from a month in Greece, sun-soaked, inspired, and wildly energized, and there’s one theme that keeps showing up in every single conversation I’ve had since: 10 minutes can change everything.
In this episode, I’m sharing the power of micro-bravery. Not hypotheticals, but real stories. A client who made one 10-minute thank-you call and created a deeper connection than she imagined. Another who picked up the phone and walked away with a six-figure intro. I’ll even tell you how a 10-minute YouTube workout changed my whole day. This is about momentum over perfection. Courage over rumination. Action over spinning. You don’t need the perfect deck, a full hour, or a polished strategy. You need 10 minutes and a decision to move. Let’s talk about how to find those moments and what can happen when you do.

Most nonprofits wait for permission: a grant panel, a sponsor, an award to tell them they’re the best. This episode flips that script. Today, I share why it’s time to claim your brilliance, boldly articulate what makes you exceptional, and anchor your authority before anyone else does. From a five-star Airbnb in Greece to awkward sponsor meetings where leaders freeze, this conversation unpacks the mindset shifts and tactical moves that help you own your impact. Everyone’s chasing the wrong spotlight—and in this episode, I explain why. You think you need a Grammy winner to post your fundraiser, but what you actually need is a solid campaign and a Social Street Team® to spread it. I share real stories of big-name flops, what gets campaigns to convert (hint: it’s not fame), and how to build a movement of aligned, trusted messengers who drive results. If you’re tired of waiting for someone famous to save your fundraiser, it’s time to flip the script and start thinking like a strategist. Let’s talk about how to ditch the vanity metrics and lead with clarity, trust, and a campaign that scales.

What if your birthday could change lives?
In this episode, I sit down with Kayla Houchin, founder of Sonder Bakehouse, a passionate fundraiser, and a longtime advocate for Charity: Water. Kayla shares how a book and a single birthday campaign turned into over $100,000 raised (and counting!) to bring clean water to communities worldwide. We talk about the power of starting small, how joy and creativity fuel sustainability in fundraising, and why showing up with purpose can inspire a whole town to rally behind your mission. From auctioning cakes to hosting galas, Kayla proves that you don’t need to be a full-time nonprofit pro to make a massive impact—you just need clarity, consistency, and a little courage to ask. Whether you’re planning your first peer-to-peer campaign or dreaming of a million-dollar impact, Kayla’s story will reignite your belief in grassroots fundraising and remind you why the why matters most.

What if your next major hire isn’t a person, but a system?
In this episode, I pull back the curtain on the “NextGen Fundraising Engine”, a proven campaign system that replaces the need for a marketing coordinator, development associate, and monthly giving manager. If you’re stuck in a cycle of burnout, chasing one-off donations, or hiring your way out of a revenue gap, this episode is your permission slip to do it differently. You’ll learn why the smartest nonprofits are stealing proven growth tactics from e-commerce brands, and how to streamline your fundraising, storytelling, and donor retention strategies without bloating your payroll. This isn’t hustle culture. This is what it looks like to fundraise smarter.

Donors don’t act like traditional donors anymore—they act like digital shoppers. And in this episode, Salvatore Salpietro, Chief Community Officer at Fundraise Up, joins me to break down exactly what that means for your nonprofit.
This isn’t about throwing shade. It’s about meeting donors where they are—on their phones, on the go, and expecting the same seamless experience they get from Amazon, Uber, or Netflix.

Ever pour your heart into a campaign, emails sent, donors hyped, and an event planned, only to hit a wall? Donations stall, goals aren’t met, and suddenly, it feels like you failed. This episode is your permission slip to pause, reflect, and bounce back stronger. In part two of the mindset series, I’m sharing a concept I coach clients on weekly: The 7-Minute Rule. It's the strategy that helps nonprofit leaders recover from fundraising flops without spiraling into shame or burnout. Because the real issue isn’t that you missed the mark—it’s that no one taught you how to process the disappointment and evaluate what’s next. If you’ve ever walked away from a fundraiser thinking, “What’s the point?”—this one’s for you.

You know that moment when someone doesn’t reply to your email, or a donor backs out, or you get an unsubscribe notification—and suddenly, your stomach drops? Rejection stings—it hits hard and can hijack your momentum fast.
In this episode, I’m sharing something I’ve been coaching on behind the scenes: The 7-Second Rule. It’s a mindset tool to help you handle rejection—ghosting, “no thank yous,” radio silence, without falling into a spiral that slows your mission down. Because the real issue isn’t the “no.” It’s what happens in the seven seconds after. That’s when your inner critic gets loud, your confidence dips, and you start playing small. But it doesn’t have to be that way. This episode will help you pause, reframe, and keep showing up like the fundraising CEO you are.

Your campaign launched strong—emails out, ambassadors ready, social posts scheduled. And then the momentum vanished. You’re not alone.
I’m sharing what no one prepares you for: the messy middle of your fundraising campaign. That moment when things slow down, energy dips, and you start asking, “Where is everybody?” If it feels harder to move donors right now, you’re right. The game has changed. Campaigns that used to work aren’t hitting the same, and it’s not because your cause isn’t worthy. It’s because “good enough” no longer cuts it. Your donors are behaving more like consumers. They need urgency, energy, and movement.
In this episode, I’m walking you through why campaigns stall—and what to do instead. You’ll learn how to spot the stall before it happens, how to inject new momentum when the buzz dies down, and why donor fatigue is often a leadership energy issue in disguise. This isn’t about working harder. It’s about leading differently. Let’s get your campaign moving again.

If you're still fundraising alone, this episode will change everything. Whether you're a solo shop executive director, a part-time founder, or running a million-dollar organisation, one thing is clear: you're not meant to do this work alone.
In this episode, I’m walking you through exactly how to grow faster using digital ambassadors—aka your passionate, everyday supporters who already love your mission and are ready to spread the word. From awareness to fundraising to enrollment, mobilizing others is no longer a nice-to-have—it’s essential. Because what worked in 2014 doesn’t work in 2025. And when you build the right team around you? That’s when you scale.
If you’ve ever said “we don’t have a big enough audience,” or “our team’s already maxed out,” this one’s for you. You don’t need a bigger team—you need the right people activated around you.

If you’ve ever felt like your board is holding you back—or worse, like you’re stuck asking for permission to lead the organization you’re working so hard to grow, you’re not alone. In this episode, I'm joined by Sabrina Walker Hernandez, founder of Building Better Boards, to dig into why so many nonprofit CEOs get stuck parenting their boards — and how to break free from the cycle.
Sabrina’s lived it from all sides: she’s run a thriving nonprofit, serves on five boards, and is not afraid to name what’s happening behind closed doors. We talk about board bullies (yep, they exist), permission culture, burnt-out executive directors, and what happens when you stop begging and start leading with confidence. If you’ve been stuck in the cycle of over-explaining, over-prepping, or just over-it, this one will remind you: you’re more powerful than you think.

Are you waiting for motivation to strike before you write that email, make that donor call, or launch that campaign?
In this episode of the Purpose & Profit Club® Podcast, I break down the sneaky trap nonprofit leaders fall into when we rely too much on either motivation (which feels good but disappears fast) or commitment (which can quickly turn into burnout if we’re not careful). I share real-life examples—from my improv class to client wins—and show you how to build momentum even when you don’t feel ready. This one’s packed with mindset shifts, real talk about dread, and actionable ways to get unstuck, take brave action, and actually feel better doing it.

This episode is one of those had-to-record-it-right-away moments. I’m sharing a mindset shift that will completely change how you approach donor outreach, fundraising campaigns, partnerships, and even your emails. It’s called the 100% YES Method—and once you understand it, you’ll never pitch or plan the same way again. Inspired by a little league coaching moment with my son (stay with me, sports fans and non-fans alike), I’m breaking down why assuming the answer is "YES" until it clearly isn’t creates unstoppable energy, faster results, and wildly magnetic campaigns. We’re talking less hesitation, more conviction—and yes, way more funding. If you've ever caught yourself holding back your ask, hedging on your goals, or burying your CTA at the bottom of your email, this episode is for you. It’s time to get out of the “no zone” and move into confident action that actually gets results.

What happens when you mix a powerhouse ALS advocate, a faith-driven advancement leader, and a whole lot of heart? You get this conversation.
Recorded live at GiveCon, presented by Bloomerang and QGiv, I sat down with Wendy Faust, Executive Director of Live Like Lou Foundation, and Jen Waning from the Sisters of St. Francis, and let me tell you—it was one of the most real, heartfelt, and surprisingly joyful chats I’ve had in a long time. We talk about the uncertainty so many nonprofits are navigating right now—and how to meet it with clarity, community, and courage. Wendy shares how Live Like Lou is turning personal loss into legacy and how even a simple lemonade stand can spark powerful donor connections. Jen reflects on what it means to honor the wisdom of 124 sisters who’ve spent their lives in service—and what legacy looks like when you’re truly thinking long-term. Together, we celebrated how nonprofits hustle for joy, even in the hardest moments. If you’ve ever wondered how to make your mission magnetic—or how to show up more boldly in your community—this is the episode for you.

You’ve poured your heart into your nonprofit, spending nights and weekends building programs, rallying volunteers, and making an impact—yet, there’s still not enough funding to quit your day job and go all in. Sound familiar? So many nonprofit founders get stuck in this exact cycle—working tirelessly but never quite breaking through to a fully-funded organization. And here’s the hard truth: The way you’re fundraising is keeping you stuck.
In this episode, I’m breaking down how to raise enough money to finally go full-time, why small-dollar fundraisers (like that exhausting gala or 5K) aren’t the answer, and the exact strategy to bring in $10K+ every time you fundraise. Plus, we’re talking about the mindset shifts you need to make to pay yourself without guilt—because your nonprofit can’t grow if it can’t keep you. If you’re tired of running on fumes and ready to lead your organization with full-time energy and full-time funding, this episode is your blueprint.

If you’re not hitting your fundraising goals, it’s easy to think the problem is your CRM, website, or donation platform. But switching tools won’t fix a broken strategy. I see so many nonprofits stuck in a cycle of blaming their tech instead of addressing the real issue—how they’re engaging donors and running campaigns. In this episode, I’m breaking down three major reasons organizations miss their fundraising targets and what to do instead. I’m talking about the difference between reactive and proactive fundraising (and why most organizations are stuck in survival mode), the fear of making bold asks, and the importance of differentiation—because if you blend in, you’ll be ignored. If you’re tired of feeling like you’re constantly fundraising but never getting ahead, this episode is for you.

Let’s talk about something that’s quietly draining your nonprofit—outdated leadership. You know the kind… the board that plays it safe, resists change, and clings to “what’s always worked” even though it’s clearly not working anymore. And guess what? It’s costing your mission millions. In this episode, we’re calling it out: playing small is the biggest risk you can take. I’ll walk you through why leadership’s fear of innovation is keeping you stuck, why your nonprofit needs to invest in modern fundraising strategies, and how organizations that embrace bold moves are seeing massive results. Plus, I’m sharing a few case studies of nonprofits who ditched the old playbook, leveled up their approach, and unlocked hundreds of thousands in new funding. So, if you’ve ever felt like you’re dragging your board into the future—or worse, getting shut down every time you bring a fresh idea to the table—this episode is for you. It’s time to break the board barrier and start fundraising smarter, faster, and bigger.

Todaywe’re breaking down why traditional fundraising isn’t cutting it anymore. Donor habits have shifted, motivations have evolved, and clinging to outdated tactics like galas, auctions, and 5Ks is holding your organization back.
Here’s the hard truth: what worked a decade ago now delivers diminishing returns. Donors today want connection, impact, and innovation—not the same tired playbook.
In this episode, I’ll unpack why these methods are falling short, reveal what’s working right now, and arm you with the insights you need to take bold action. Share this with your board to show them exactly why it’s time to ditch the old-school approach and embrace strategies that actually resonate with today’s donors.
If you’re ready to stop playing small and start driving real results, this episode is your roadmap.

In this episode, we’re talking about Fast-Track Fundraising—how to raise more money, even if your social media audience feels tiny (or non-existent!). I’m sharing the bold strategies that helped nonprofits crush their Giving Tuesday goals—like one small organization raising record-breaking dollars with less than 1,500 followers. We’ll also take a close look at the 2024 Giving Tuesday numbers—$3.6 billion raised in the U.S. alone—and uncover why some nonprofits thrived while others didn’t. Spoiler: It’s not about going viral. It’s about activating the networks you already have and leaning into strategies like building a Social Street Team™. If you’re ready to ditch outdated fundraising tactics and unlock real growth, this episode is for you!

In this episode I want to talk about plateaus – every organization, every business ever has experienced some flavor of a plateau. For a lot of nonprofits, it sounds a little bit like this: Your campaign started strong, donations were rolling in, you are feeling excited because you can just feel the buzz. But then, like clockwork, it just flatlines. Plateaus don’t happen because donors stop caring, they happen because you stop giving them motivation to engage. So we're going to dig into the five reasons why plateaus happen today, and some of my favorite strategies to get you out of the messy middle, get you out of that plateau and close that campaign strong.

Y'all, we have a trio on the podcast today. I'm so excited to welcome Dr. Theresa Ashby and Catherine Curry-Williams to the podcast. Cat is a dynamic speaker and bestselling author known for her raw, authentic, and caring approach while Dr. Ashby challenges the status quo through her high-energy, cutting-edge, and humorous presentation leaves audiences re-imagining the future of business. Both are experts on collective giving and are reimagining philanthropy with their grassroots organization, The She Angels Foundation, where they are pooling their resources to make a big impact through $5,000 grants to underfunded organizations. What struck me most was their emphasis on making philanthropy accessible and fun – turning it into a "party" where members can see their dollars at work. They are challenging the notion that you need to be a major donor to make a difference, showing how small, consistent contributions can add up to create real change. After listening to this episode, you’ll feel energized about the potential for this model to transform the nonprofit and “community” landscape.

Today’s episode kicks off a game-changing series where we take a page from the Venture Capital playbook. We’ll explore how to position your fundraising pitches as strategic investments, moving beyond transactional donations. Learn how to frame your ask like an opportunity funders won’t want to miss, positioning them as essential partners in driving long-term impact.
I’m joined by Naseem Sayani, a general partner at Emmeline Ventures, a group of investors steadfastly committed to investing in and serving as catalysts for new, emerging founders & businesses. They invest in female founders building game-changing businesses that empower women, in particular, to manage their health, build their wealth, and live in a cleaner, safer world.
Coming from the nonprofit world, I was struck by the speed and audacity of VC funding compared to the slower approach rampant in the nonprofit sector. Naseem shares invaluable insights on what it takes for women founders to succeed in this fast-paced ecosystem from building genuine connections to her advice to lead with the numbers (not empathy). After this episode, you’ll feel more prepared in your role of leveling the playing field for female founders – whether that be in the private or nonprofit sector.

Did you catch last week’s episode on ditching formality? I'm so excited to dive a little deeper into the concept today with the idea of breaking the fourth wall and why it's so crucial, especially as we approach the critical year-end fundraising season. Breaking the fourth wall is all about ditching the formality and inviting your audience, your donors, to be a true part of the narrative.
By creating these interactive, authentic moments, you can build deeper, more lasting relationships, not just transactional interactions. You’ll hear about examples from TV, film, and businesses that have mastered this approach, showing how it earns trust, boosts organic reach, and ultimately drives higher donations and retention. You’ll learn how to identify ways you can incorporate breaking the fourth wall into your upcoming campaigns and communications, whether it's a vulnerable email, a behind-the-scenes social post, or getting your team and advocates involved. The key is taking that first step to make your donors feel truly connected to your mission. Ready?

Today on the podcast, you're going to hear a recording of a webinar I knew I needed to share with you. I'm sharing the three phases of campaign success – pre-game, launch, and taking your victory lap – but most organizations skip to phase 2, stay in phase 2, and never make it to phase 3.
So as you prepare for the busiest time fundraising this year, think about how you can make sure that you move through phase one, into phase two, and finally landing in phase three. Throughout the episode, you’ll learn how to build buzz during your campaign launch and maintain that momentum and close strong for donor retention.
Just a note that we recorded this training on Zoom, and we had so many great questions come in, like I said, I couldn't keep it a secret. So please enjoy and you're going to hear me mention the club and if you want to know more about what we do or if it’s right for you, the best thing you could do right now is book a call with me, the show notes will have a link to my calendar. Book a call with me, so we can make this year your most successful one yet.

Welcome to today's episode with Michelle Boggs. She is an executive nonprofit industry advisor, and I am really excited to welcome her on because she really understands the latest trends of what's working and what's not in our sector, and has weaved that into her work with GoFundMe. Now, if you're like me, you've seen the rise of these crowdfunding tools, like GoFundMe and Kickstarter. There's so many out there, and it really got me thinking, what can nonprofits do to adapt their strategies the way that these crowdfunding sites are really, really working and having so much success? In the episode, you’ll learn the power of creating and mobilizing your community to advocate and fundraise and lift up your message alongside of you (this is also what I teach in my Social Street Team™ method) and this idea of personal style, storytelling one human to another human, instead of the ominous brand that has been stripped of your voice. This episode will motivate you to see there are so many generous people in the world, and to not get hung up on one or two doom scrolly headlines, and instead, look at the generosity that's happening every single day on these different sites and ask yourself, what am I missing?

Is mindset more important than natural ability for achieving success? This idea is what I’m chatting about in today’s episode of The Purpose & Profit Club™ Podcast using examples from the Olympics and Neflix’s SPRINT documentary – specifically Noah Lyles’ belief in his inevitable success. Even more, I argue that mindset, rather than just pure athletic ability, is what drives success. I back this up with scientific studies showing how our beliefs and perceptions can actually influence our physical outcomes. When you listen in, you’ll learn the importance of claiming your goals publicly, reframing negative thoughts, and approaching your work with a growth mindset. By the end of the episode, I hope that you will feel encouraged to adopt strategies like journaling, meditation, and joining my coaching program to develop a "mindset ninja" approach to unlock the true potential of you and your nonprofit organization.

Zach also highlights the sense of community and inclusivity the foundation fosters and why this is the core of all of their programming success. Already crossing your fingers when it comes to examining year end growth? There’s a way to make the growth of your organization more sustainable (and definitely more of a sure thing). I’m excited to share with you today a method that many of my clients have used with great success – as much as 5xing their campaign goals. Introducing The Social Street Team™ Method, where your mission, your target audience, and your biggest advocates collide. Your Social Street Team™ is similar to influencer marketing, but it has your organization at the heart of it all. Listen to this episode to learn more about this method and how to get started – even if you’re B2B, even if you’re international, even if your organization isn’t fully community based. This is also something that I extensively teach in The Purpose & Profit Group Coaching Program, and we would love it if you joined us!

I’m coming to you after just arriving home from my month-long trip to Panama, blending remote work with family vacation. I thought I would share the mixed reactions we received about our adventure and relate this to how organizations often face skepticism when trying new ideas. The main theme revolves around the concept of how thoughts become our reality and how our beliefs drive our actions towards achieving goals. I’m touching on the think-feel-do cycle, illustrating it with inspiring examples like athlete Anna Hall’s use of affirmations to qualify for the Olympics. I also share a cautionary tale from a local restaurant in my neighborhood that failed due to poor marketing strategies, highlighting the importance of proactive customer engagement. Through these stories, I emphasize the power of positive thinking and visualization in overcoming challenges and achieving success. If you’re ready to become the hero of your cause rather than being stuck in resignation, this episode is for you.

In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Joey Goone from Utopia Experience, an event management company for nonprofit organizations. From the beginning of our conversation, we explore how neuroscience and psychological safety play pivotal roles in creating memorable and impactful events. Joey shares his unique approach to using technology as a conduit for deeper connections and how important it is to foster a sense of community and purpose. We also discuss common pitfalls in fundraising events, emphasizing the need for a clear purpose, targeted audience, and effective storytelling. Joey's insights on stepping back as an executive director to empower your team and leveraging professional support to make a successful ask were particularly enlightening. This conversation is a treasure trove of strategies and stories for anyone looking to elevate their event planning and fundraising efforts.

I’m excited to have a repeat guest on the show today, Holly Rustick. Holly’s previous episode where she told us how to transition from your toxic nonprofit job to freelancing freedom is one of our most downloaded episodes, so I’m happy to have her back on to dig a bit deeper into her expertise of grant writing. In our conversation, we discuss the significant advantages of hiring freelance grant writers over staff members, and the strategic approach necessary for success in this field. Holly shares valuable insights into her program, which helps new and seasoned grant writers replace their full-time income through flexible freelance work. We also touch on the importance of having a master grant template, the benefits of specialized training, and how to create a high-impact grant strategy. And the episode wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t bring up the role of AI in grant writing. Holly’s expertise and passion for creating equity in the space made for an engaging and informative conversation that will leave you feeling more confident when you write your next grant (or hire it out)!

Recently I’ve had several calls with different service providers and tech companies to potentially partner with their service or tool. In these conversations, my goal is to see if this is a fit for anyone in my community? Is this a fit for any of my clients? Do my clients need to know about this? Will this make their life better? But what I’ve found is that when I ask what makes their company A different from company B or C, they don’t know how to answer this question. So that’s what I want to talk about in this episode – the critical importance of differentiation for nonprofit organizations. I’m going to share how you can uncover the essence of what makes your organization unique, while urging your nonprofit to define your brand beyond just logos and colors. I highlight the significance of authentic storytelling and targeted communication, particularly to engage younger generations like Gen Z. We also discuss the necessity for innovative fundraising methods and moving away from traditional, outdated practices (while also including your board to lead to more engagement). This episode is a call to action for nonprofits to be bold, authentic, and clear about their unique contributions to their communities.

In this episode, I’m exploring the impact of negative thoughts and assumptions on nonprofit marketing, fundraising, and how you view the world around you, and your possibility for success. Drawing from Jay Shetty's insights at a recent conference, he shared that 80% (of our 60,000) daily thoughts are negative and want to discuss how this mindset can hinder your professional and personal growth!
I’m sharing practical strategies, including one of my favorite exercises that you can do in 10 minutes, to identify and challenge these assumptions, improve donor engagement, and foster a positive and productive environment. This episode offers valuable tools for nonprofit leaders, marketers, and fundraisers to enhance their mental framework and achieve better outcomes.

You’re going to love this episode today with Mike Ganino, a public speaking, storytelling, and performance coaching methodology. He is so good at his craft and that shines through throughout the whole episode. There were a couple moments where I was blown away at his ability to take a story and run with it as he related it to the practice of public speaking and/or making the ask. As you listen through this episode, you’ll hear tips on becoming a more effective and confident communicator (even if you’re an introvert). These are skills that you can take with you into the board room for your next directors meeting or as you sit down to ask for the bigger donation from a long-time donor. I can’t wait to hear how you put this into practice!

Recently my neighbor lost their escape artist cat, and you’re probably already wondering what this has to do with your nonprofit. Well, right after their cat went missing, they stepped into this unwavering belief that they’d find him (or her?), and it’s really blown me away and reminded me of how we need to be showing up for our organizations, our donors, and our mission. For a month, my neighbors were knocking on doors daily, posting and reposting missing flier signs, posting daily in the neighborhood Facebook group, and were out each night calling their cat’s name. When was the last time you used this same sense of urgency and momentum when communicating with your donors? Tune into this full episode to hear how you can overcome embarrassment and other mindset blocks to step into this mindset of unwavering belief to watch your organization grow and grow some more.

I recently hosted an advanced training that was all about the number one shift to make to your lead gen and outreach strategy, and the conversation and the coaching ended up being so good that I knew I had to share some of it on the podcast today. So if you hear some prompts happening in the recording, that's why. We had a live group on and one of my clients graciously said we can share her coaching because if you're like her, she's like, this is great and all but why do I actually say, what do I say when a prospect says this? What do I say when I'm talking about our programs? What do I actually say in, leading up to, and during the meeting to actually ask for funding or to upgrade a funder? So we did live coaching and it was so good, and I think you'll find it really helpful as you start to improve upon and develop your lead gen and outreach strategy. So don't forget to take action from this training. If you need more support in doing it, more guidance, more support, more commitment, more accountability, more motivation to make it happen, that's the work we're doing in my coaching program, the Purpose & Profit Club, you can always go to the link in the show notes to hop on the waitlist.

Donor Advised Funds… maybe this topic you haven’t heard of, or maybe it’s something that exudes a bit of an eye roll. Mitch Stein, Head of Strategy at Chariot, is joining me today on the podcast to flip what you think you know about Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) upside down. He says, “... being more engaged with DAF fundraising is critical. If you're not presenting this to your donors you’re 100% missing out.” If you’re a listener of the show, I know you’d never want to leave money on the table knowingly, and this conversation will help you avoid that. Mitch is breaking down exactly what Donor Advised Funds are, how they can alleviate friction in fundraising, and some exciting innovations that are coming down the pike with fundraising technology. This episode is really exciting, and I hope that when you listen you’ll feel yourself open up to new revenues of donating.

Recently I hosted a 3-day challenge called The Profitable Partnerships Challenge and it was pretty epic. So, what we're doing today for the podcast is pulling out some of the juiciest parts of the challenge for you, and a highlight on today’s episode. It's the first time that I've posted anything like this before, but I think you’ll still find a lot of value in it. This episode (and challenge) is for you if you want to land more donors, funders, partners, influencers or ambassadors for your nonprofit – it's where the inner work meets the outer work of the profit, the revenue generating actions. So if you want to actually listen to and watch the full 3-day challenge, go to splendidcourses.com/waitlist and I will send you a note the next time we open up the free challenge again, but in the meantime, enjoy this motivation boost and go take some action!

Today's guest is a real treat, I'm so excited to welcome Karena from Hello Inner Light to the podcast because l've been a big fan of her work for a while. If you have ever tried meditation, affirmations, or thought work and felt like something was missing, you're really going to love today's episode because of the way that Karena teaches this process of somatic healing and just Havening® to relieve stress. I find it much more accessible than the other traditional routes. Throughout this live session replay, Karena guides us through a Havening session specifically designed for changemakers and nonprofit executives, so bookmark this episode in advance of your next big meeting because it is perfect for that. Just a heads up, you're going to hear some background about Karena because I interview her at the beginning of the episode, so we learn a little bit more about her work and what Havening is and somatic healing are. Then you'll also hear some questions or some prompts from me to the audience. We did record this live and we had audience members who were going through the session with us, so l wanted to share that context with you before we begin. Enjoy!

Today we're talking about two things that are required to grow your mission, to grow your impact, to grow your funding, AND to grow your visibility. You have to do these two things repeatedly in order for your organization to grow—prospecting and outreach. I know, I know, these are not the most exciting things to do, but I'm going to walk you through how I handle prospecting and outreach, and how I've literally built three different businesses using a method that works for me. Prospecting and outreach does not have to feel like it's tight and cold calling or the most stressful thing ever. This method works, it is how I started my first business back in 2007, and again, started another business in 2011 solely using prospecting and outreach. Many times entrepreneurs get stuck because they've got a great business idea and they build a website for it, they get some business cards for it, and then it's like just waiting, just waiting for the people to come buy the thing, right? That is not how you build a profitable business. The same is true for nonprofits. They apply for their 501c3 status, they get their website, they get maybe a board of directors, and then they're waiting. What you need is a model for prospecting and outreach that is doable, that is rinse and repeat and part of your annual, monthly, and weekly plan. Tune in to find out how to create yours to increase your donorship today.

Have you ever heard the saying, “Never skip a day,” if you've tried to create a new habit, started a New Year's resolution, or have had any sort of health or fitness related goal, you've probably have. But on today’s episode of the Purpose & Profit Club™, I want to share why I hate this saying and why I think it's just a perfectionist trap. And instead, we’ll talk about how to create new habits, set better goals, how to stick to them, and how I've done this in my own professional and personal life. Plus, if you do like the mentality of never skipping a day, I’m covering what to do if life happens and you inevitably do have to skip a day. I want you to think of one goal you have, decide the habits you’ll create and the guardrails you’ll put in place to achieve them. Then, I want you to ditch the idea that you’ve got to be perfect at implementing it.

As a part of the launch for the next round of The Purpose & Profit™ Coaching Program, I’ve done a lot of free chats with people who want to join. Since the calls, I’ve formulated a list of common issues that nonprofits are facing when it comes to investing in their organization’s growth. The funny thing? Whether their organization raises $1 million+ or $20K, I hear the same issues when it comes to getting the okay from leadership to essentially spend money to make money. There are the same limiting beliefs, the same fears, and the same unmet needs for capacity building. Today I want to talk about having the faith to take a leap, because on the other side could be your biggest win.

Did you always know that you were going to be working in the nonprofit world, or is it something that the universe directed you toward? This is exactly what happened for today’s guest, Kathy Ruiz-Carter. After being diagnosed with a rare skin disorder she started a podcast to find community, then started a membership, then finally landed on creating her own nonprofit, the Lichen Sclerosus Support Network. On today’s episode, she shares what she’s learned along the way and how she’s managed to be profitable from day one. It’s been so fun to see her grow as an executive director, bringing the network’s audience and fundraising efforts right along with her. Kathy is such a light and I can’t wait for you to soak some of that up throughout the episode!

Let's explore what inspires action. We emphasize the importance of the audience and the impact of influence -- with the rise of Stanley's $40 insulated cup to a $2,000 eBay sensation.
The key to this transformation was shifting the target audience, but influence played a pivotal role.
But audience alone isn't the whole story. The colossal revenue spike was driven by the potent force of influence. Two influencers played a pivotal role in changing the game for Stanley, demonstrating the tremendous impact of an endorsement from a trusted source, whether it's a blogger, a wellness leader, a coach, a mentor, or even a celebrity. These endorsements can translate into millions.
So, while spending thousands on a cup might seem bananas, the underlying strategy is accessible to you. It's about embracing the power of digital ambassadors and influencers, who could become your most influential digital Social Street Team™. The key lies in taking that crucial first step towards harnessing the power of influence for your mission.

Consider this: the natural tendency for things is to atrophy over time if we don't actively engage with them. The notion that it all happens effortlessly is one of the biggest misconceptions out there. To ensure sustained growth, consistent effort is an absolute necessity. Don't allow things to wither away; instead, embrace the challenge and commit to ongoing action.
And here's the secret: when they do start to lose their luster, that's when it's all about focusing like a laser beam, taking one step at a time, and seeing things through to the end.
We'll unpack the temptation to spread yourself too thin with a wide array of strategies or ventures. Instead, dive deep into one strategy or area of expertise. Avoid the constant cycle of jumping from one thing to the next, whether it's Facebook ads or the allure of the latest trend. Your success lies in the power of consistency and commitment.

Are you caught in the paradox of wanting to be seen yet afraid to be different? This week, we hit the big 5-0 with our podcast episodes and we're marking it with an exploration of this conundrum. As we unpack the struggle of being conspicuous versus blending in, we spotlight Threads, a platform that champions uniqueness and authenticity. We also share insights from Sarah Ashman about the universal challenge of standing out while fitting in.
Then, we take a deep breath and plunge into overcoming the trepidation attached to standing out. We delve into the power of grit as a driving force that keeps us moving forward, even in the face of failure. We discuss the danger of suppressing your unique voice just to fit in and emphasize the importance of persisting, even when it appears your efforts are not yielding immediate results. Remember, Rome was not built in a day; it may take more than one or ten episodes to make a significant impact.
Wrapping up, we dissect the relationship between effort, grit, and resilience. We make a case for praising effort over success— a philosophy that holds the potential to revolutionize parenting and personal development. We also tackle the challenge of standing out, the authenticity that it demands, and the role of a coach in helping you achieve your goals. As we conclude our milestone 50th episode, we hope to leave you with a greater appreciation for your unique voice and the tenacity to keep pushing, no matter what.

About Emily Taylor
Emily Taylor, the Principal of teenyBIG, is passionate about helping nonprofits find better ways to engage the people who matter to them. She guides teams in stepping outside of their day-to-day work to meet stakeholders where they are, building stronger relationships and providing better outcomes.
Emily’s work uses the process of strategic listening, a human-centered approach that re-evaluates the experience of a product or service through its end user. Using qualitative research and evaluation methods, she can help nonprofits better understand a donor segment before engaging with them or learn about the strengths and opportunities of their organization through the eyes of its community.

Inspired by a recent interview with NBA Player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, where a reporter asked him if he view the "season as a failure."
Let's talk about the magic of being an underdog and how failure can actually be your secret weapon to enjoy the journey not just the destination.
Failing can teach you valuable lessons and give you the experience you need to crush it next time. It's like lifting weights - every time you fail, you're building up your resilience and mental muscles.
Don't be afraid to embrace your inner underdog. It's not binary. Don't stack up one single loss against the entire season.
Don't ride the highs to high or the lows to low.
The willingness to get in the game -- even with the losses and the wins -- will push you to grow into the person and organization you deeply want. Get in the arena!

Prospecting is essential for lead generation, but it can be anxiety-inducing for so many nonprofits and social entrepreneurs. In this episode, you'll hear the ultimate metaphor about how so many organizations view their prospect list as a single tree with limited fruit... instead of expanding your prospect list and reaching out to more people in your network.
You'll hear the depth of how to look beyond your current best donors and customers and where other warm leads are hiding out (it's easier to find them than you think)!
If you're a solopreneur looking for new clients, an ambitious nonprofit, or work in fundraising this is a must-listen episode.

I went from feeling like an unremarkable writer for the first 30 years of my life... and working with Email Marketing Expert, Tarzan Kay, changed the way I approached writing, and reading her emails showed me the possibility to find joy and ease in telling stories and connecting with your subscribers.
Tarzan shares:
She shares, "We're taught to tell your 'rags to riches story' but all the interesting things are the things that happened in between, the gritty, the beautiful parts, funny parts, the sad parts, the middle where you're not sure where it's going yet. That's where you show people your humanity."
About Tarzan Kay:
Tarzan Kay teaches online businesses, digital course creators, and freelance service providers how to write emails that are story-powered, fun-to-read and high-converting. She has spent the last three years slowly dismantling her 7-figure boss-babe empire and unlearning the systems of influence and indoctrination that were taught to her as a new business owner. She now teaches how to sell with email according to your own values, by leading with personality, integrity and building connection.

Why I stopped using the Hero's Story Formula for storytelling for nonprofits and a better way to tell stories that don't perpetuate saviors and stereotypes.
You don't need to lean on shocking imagery and words to catch your donor's attention.... and you'd don't have to tell a watered-down story either.
There's an ethical, values-centered way to tell stories that connect and translate into action. I'll share how to do it in today's episode!
Shift from telling stories that give up your organization's power. Instead, tell stories inviting individuals into your nonprofit from a trusted guide, so they can be in community with you and part of a collective change.

I’m thrilled to introduce you to one of my mentors, Mariah Coz. I began working with her back in 2020 as I created my first online course and really learned how to run a profitable online business. Mariah’s built an incredible 7-figure business — and done it in a way that is uniquely her style, values, and vision.
Mariah Coz is the founder of Fearless CEO, where she has spent the last 7 years working with entrepreneurs to build their online courses, group programs, webinars, evergreen funnels, and more.
Over the years, she has worked with thousands of clients and has been lucky enough to mentor many of the “household names” you know today!
As the seasons change, as the industry shifts, as algorithms go rogue, as circumstances continue to fluctuate day to day -- there are principles that remain timeless and evergreen. The heart of Mariah’s teachings comes down to her signature approach of creating “Empowering Enrollment Experiences” that both you and your customers will love!

Having trouble getting a "yes," donation, or closing the sale? One of the biggest mistakes founders and marketers make is over-explaining the FEATURES instead of highlighting the BENEFITS.
Today's episode will change the way you pitch your next funder or write social copy for your next online campaign.
I'll share how to shift from talking about features of your program or service to easily share the benefits of your mission. I even audit my own sales page from my course, Amplify Social Impact, to show you the difference in real-time.

A recent Facebook question sent me down an email-marketing rant and this way of thinking comes up for many entrepreneurs and organizations.
What is upstream versus downstream thinking?
What is the lifetime value of upstream thinking - and how can you ask better questions to increase your revenue and visibility?
If you've found yourself searching for the cheapest (or quickest fix) software, contractor, or system... this episode is for you! Often, when you're looking for the lowest cost, you're stuck in downstream thinking.
I share how to distinguish between high-value and low-value questions, how to ask better questions in your business, and why asking better questions will skyrocket your success.
Plus, learn about the method I created in my course, Amplify Social Impact, called a Social Street Team, and how a recent book launch from a famous online entrepreneur was a case study in how to engage a Social Street Team with success.

Everyone is guilty of feeling "not quite ready" and idling in passive-action instead of daring-action mode.
What is passive action? Extra googling, researching, over-editing, and tweaking.
In this minisode, you'll learn how I handle those moments when I want to avoid rejection or feeling uncomfortable, and handle the nerves.
The massive cost of "waiting to feel ready" and avoiding the sting of rejection is where so many social impact businesses get stuck. The massive cost it takes on your business or organization can be catastrophic. But, the way out of this loop is simple!
I share how I allow the nerves, the rejection, and the process of active follow-up in order to fuel your mission forward.

If you've ever felt weird, squirmy, or like a used-car salesman fundraising or in a pitch meeting, this episode is for you!
I recently got locked in my house and what followed for the rest of the day was a huge lesson in stepping into the spotlight.

Plus, I'll explain how to create the optimal energy behind a discovery call or donor meeting, and how shifting your strategy can attract more perfect-fit clients and customers.
It's time to stop villainizing the word "salesy" -- we're here for 2 things: purpose and profit. Let's reduce the tension around the idea of selling (and fundraising) -- it will change the way you prospect and make it a lot more fun.

Are you unintentionally writing to your grumpiest subscriber or follower? In this episode, I'll share the simple trick to change the way you feel about writing any copy or messaging -- and why your audience will be more engaged and excited to hear from you when you use this formula!
I'll share why you should:
Start writing emails for the person that needs a nudge, or a shout-out, and wants to be seen, heard, and connected with you and your org.
That changes everything -- especially your revenue.

Forget reading all the "how-to" books to become a masterful storyteller. In this episode, I'm sharing the homework assignment I gave my students in Easy Emails for Impact.

I'm taking you back to 3rd grade and the snarky trick Ms. Crowder played on our class and the life lesson that took me many years to learn from it. Find out how following the leader can get you further away from achieving your goal, and keep you stuck from accessing your own expertise and voice.
Episodes Highlights:
Following the leader results in homogeneous, boring marketing. The same redundant calls-to-action and boring social campaigns. Your audience wants to hear YOUR unique point of view.
When it comes to endless "suggestions" and feedback, take what you need, and leave what you don't!
Plus, hear about why I chose to have a waterbirth with my son, and how I dealt with vast, unhelpful opinions from friends and family, and "experts." When you create your own strategy, unique point of view, or decision, you must trust and believe in yourself first in order to create the support to handle the naysayers.
