From a single mother at 16, to a high school drop-out, a business woman of 25 years, to a college graduate, an author of two books, and now she holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership. Her goal for this podcast is to motivate young people, and give them tools to think positively and to give back to society. To develop a positive attitude about family and others. To learn how to evaluate themselves daily to be a positive leader/servant. We are in this world to work hard and give back. To uncover past hurt and pain that may cause a person to be stuck in anger.
Jesus, promise in Matthew 7:7-8 , ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you find; knock, and the door will be open. Everyone who ask receives; he who seeks finds; and the door will be opened. Praying is a direct conversation with our heavenly father. It is a way for us to get closer to him and watch him work. We are blessed and fortunate to live in a time where we have access to God, our Lord Jesus Christ. In the Old Testament, those people did not have a choice, nor did they have direct contact with God. He had messengers, leaders, and profits to speak and share his word and concerns to them, we have God now anytime we want him!
God came to Solomon in a dream and said, Ask for whatever you want me to give you 1st King 3:5-15. Solomon didn’t want money or fame; he asked for wisdom and a discerning heart to manage his kingdom. And God gave it to him. He was a great King and leader for the Israelites, who designed and built the Holy Temple and expanded the Kingdom. He listened and obeyed God at the beginning of his journey but eventually stopped and followed his wives, who worshiped their own Gods.
We must always have the armor of God on so that we can stand against the devil, Ephesians 6:11. King David, for instance, when he was at home in his palace and decided to step outside onto his roof patio to get some fresh air one evening, just happened to look over at his neighbors house. He saw a beautiful brown skin married woman taking a bath and sent his servant to get Bathsheba to bring her to him. He slept with her and later discovered she was pregnant, second Samuel chapter 11:1-15 , tell us the story. So you see how the devil convinced King David right then. At that moment changed his thinking. king David was not thinking about Bathsheba ‘s husband, one of his prominent soldiers. His mind immediately shifted when he saw her, but that’s how fast the devil works when he knows our weak spots. So sisters and brothers, this is why it is essential to stay in the word of god daily so that you won’t lose sight.
And Matthew chapter 4:19, Jesus told the fisherman to follow him so that he could show them how to fish for people and that is what I feel. I’m doing getting you to believe he controls our lives if we allow him to. I was a high school dropout, a teenage mother at 16, with three sons by 21, a college graduate, a businesswoman of over 30 years, and the author of two books. I earned my doctorate in educational leadership and now a podcast or sharing God word I had no choice but to walk by faith and trust God with my life, I was a single mother of three boys at 21 with no education, living on my own with public assistant, which eventually I refuse to accept. The apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:8 that God saves us by grace when we decide to believe we are saved through faith, not by sight, and this is not our own doing, it’s the gift of God.
In the book of Hebrew, chapter 13:5-6 tell us not to love money and be satisfied with what we have because God said, never will I leave you, and never will I forsake you. It took me years to finally learn to surrender and trust God with my finances. I believe God wants to bless us with a good, healthy, fruitful life, but we can’t miss manage our priorities and leave God out of our financial decisions or other matters. God wants us to lean on him, trust him, and he will show us the best way to handle our money matters. God tells us in Isaiah that he will strengthen us and help us and uphold us with his righteous hand.
Moses told the Israelites not to be afraid, just stand still and watch the Lord fight for you, and you won’t have to do a thing Exodus 14:10-15. Moses convinced Pharaoh to release the Israelites from Egypt, Pharaoh agreed at first, then changed his mind and sent his army to bring them back. The troops had caught up with the Israelites, and they started complaining to Moses because they thought they were going to be attacked and killed. But God was present right at that moment. He had Moses hold up his stick to separate the sea so that the Israelites could walk through and be saved so you see there’s no need to worry because we have a clear example of how God will save us from our troubles.
In the letter to the Philippians, chapter 2:10-11, Paul writes that in the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. I chose this topic because people suffer from relationships, illnesses, addictions, and finances. We live in challenging times, and many of us get so wrapped up into work and our social lives that we don’t find tome to spend with God or thank him for what he has done for us until we run into a crisis. But why do we have to reach this point to call upon God?
Solomon said a kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself, according to Proverbs 12:17. He also said whoever pursues kindness will find life, prosperity, and honor. To find life, we must give back and be kind to others, just as Jesus did. He walked among haters, idol, worshipers, unfaithful people, and many other sinners, but he treated all of them with kindness, and love. He wanted to win their hearts over to his father, which should be our goal in life. Romans chapter 1 and 2 speaks of God‘s kindness, which leads people to repentance. The apostle Paul tells us that God is good and kind to everyone and he knows our faults and what we think. God is patient and wants us to turn to him so no matter how ungrateful people react to kindness don’t stop hoping that they will get to know our Lord Jesus Christ.
In the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 28:12, Moses talks about obeying the 10 Commandments, saying that by doing so, we will be the head and not the tail. My sisters and brothers, I’ve been a Christian for over 35 years, and during those years, there have been many times I did things my way without seeking God’s help, and I would fail. I realized I cannot do things without his direction. I finally learned to completely surrender my life to God, trusting him, and work hard to live by his commandments. Even when things don’t go our way, and we feel like God isn’t answering our prayers, trust and believe he is listening and waiting for the right time to bless you and bring you to the point where you feel confident;he has your back…. I don’t know where you may be in your life or where you want to go, but God promised to make you the head the leader and not the tail. Jesus said, and John chapter 15:20, I have kept my father‘s commandments, if you obey my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have remained in my father‘s love.
In the book of proverbs chapter 14:23 says that hard work is worthwhile, it brings a profit, but the empty talk will make you poor. It is easy to talk about what you will do, but our actions speaks louder. I have heard many stories of parents giving their grown kids money to pay their phone bills and other living expenses, but we think we are helping them because no one helped us, right! But we are not. I encourage you to stop giving your money to your grown kids and make them earn a living on their own. Colossians 3:23 tells us that whatever kind of work we do, work at it with all our hearts, as working for the Lord, not for a man. Because we will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is our Lord Jesus Christ. We are serving.
The apostle Paul’s letter to the Ephesians 4:29 tell us that God‘s word warns us to stay away from people who gossip and guard our words when we speak about others. people who are hurt, angry, and broken inside tend to talk negatively about family members and others. It is very easy to see when a person is emotionally hurt because they gossip. They want to make themselves feel good and encourage others to listen and agree. In book of James.4:11 tells us not to slander one another, and if anyone does speak against his brother or judges him, he speaks against God‘s word. The last thing God wants us to do is to speak negatively against our sisters and brothers. We are to build each other up and support one another, not tear them down. The Holy Spirit will convict your heart if you find yourselfgossiping. Paul said in first Thessalonians 4:11 make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business. Soloman said in proverbs 16:28 that a trouble person who stares up conflict and gossip separates close friends.
In chapter 2 of the book of Philippians, the apostle Paul talks about imitating Jesus Christ, and having the same attitude and behavior. He said if Christ has encouraged you and giving you peace, you are united, with God spirit, the spirit of love, compassion, and concern for people. Dr. Galvez said it’s been a big part of her life story. Caring for young girls, encouraging unity among women and families who need support and guidance. Paul said not to think we are better than others and judge, but to think of others better than ourselves, like Jesus did.
In the book of Luke 12:2-3, Jesus spoke to his disciples and said there’s no secrets. Everything we think is hidden will be made known, and whatever you say in the dark will be heard in the daylight. Most of our life problems are because of how we think and behave. Paul letter to the Ephesians, 5:11 tells us to have nothing to do with fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. Exposing and uncovering our sins will allow for repentance and transformation. Jesus tells us and John 8:12 that he came to bring light to the world, and he who follows him, will not walk in darkness, but have the light of life. That is the gift of our Christian identity.
When God appeared to Abraham, when he was 75, the Lord promised to make him a great nation, and give him many descendants, if he left his hometown, and traveled to the land, that he will show him Genesis 12:1-4. Abraham did what God wanted him to do. He waited patiently but more importantly he wanted God to bless him with the child. God promised Abraham and Sarah they would have a baby boy. And they did 25 years later. Abraham did his part in the story and walked by faith and god honored his request. To see God‘s promise for us, my sisters and brothers, we must take responsibility for our actions. We can’t expect God to uphold his promises for us if we don’t do our part. So I ask you, when was the last time you spent quality time with our heavenly father, shared his word, or served others. We have to deposit love into God’s world to reap the promises God has in store for us. Peter, tell us in chapter 3:9 that the Lord is not slow in keeping his promise. Instead, he is patient with us and doesn’t want us to perish, but wants everyone to come clean.
In the book of Proverbs, chapter 14:1 talks about a wise woman who builds her house, but with her own hands, she can tear it down by being foolish. Dr. Galvez breaks the verse down, giving an examples of what happens when you tear your house down by being foolish and build it through Godly Wisdom. In the book of James chapter 3 verse 13 through 17 talks about two types of wisdom there’s earthly wisdom and godly wisdom. If we are wise, and understand God‘s ways, we prove it by living an honest life and doing good works. If we are wise and understands God‘s ways, we prove it by living an honest life, and doing good works with humility that comes with wisdom.
When Peter came to Jesus and asked “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me?”is seven times enough ? Jesus answered “I tell you, not seven times but 77 times Matthew 18:21-22. Forgiveness is something we think about doing it’s about releasing our feelings towards the person who hurt us. It’s a choice. It’s not about forgetting what happened to us because we won’t. It’s about letting go of anger and resentment and freeing us from bondage. I learned that most of our issues start in our child home environment, and we tend to carry them into a childhood. But I would encourage you, sisters and brothers, not to hold onto anger because we cheat ourselves out of happiness and blessings. Let it go, forgive those who hurt you, and ask God to help you so that you can live freely and in peace.
Jesus said in John 15:7 if you remaining me and my words remaining you, ask whatever you wish, and it would be given to you. Jesus continues by saying he is the true vine, we are the branches. Spending quality time with our Lord Jesus, Christ benefits us in many ways. So, I encourage you to make it a daily habit to spend time with God. Praying when you wake up and go to bed, your relationship will get closer and you will feel his presence. Even when we pray, we must listen to what God says. I have learned it’s a dialogue between me and God it’s not a one-way conversation. God will speak to us through his word and our spirit.
Solomon tells us to discipline our children, for there will be hope for them, and do not be a willing party to their death ( Proverbs 19:18). In other words teach him correctly, so you won’t contribute to their downfall. God clearly says, disciplining and teaching children when they are, young is the right way, and punishing, meaning spankings, our children is OK; they need it, sometimes, or they may fail.
Proverbs chapter 23:6-7 shares that a rich, stingy man invites a guest to eat with him, and while the guest is eating, the rich man becomes irritated, because he thinks this man is eating too much of his food. You see, God knows what we are thinking and what is in our hearts. I believe we are in our situation today because of how we think. Our thoughts could either build us up or tear us down, and, knowing this helps us control, our thinking. Dr. Galvez talks about her first book, uncovering anger, one layer at a time and learn the power forgiveness.
Jesus taught about being the salt to the Earth while on the mount. In Matthew 5:13, he said you are salt, but how can the salt they made salty again if it loses saltness, it is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out. Another words, we as Christians, are supposed to season the world with our testimonies, and share God‘s word. So that people can have hope, but if you walk around and do not talk about God‘s word, and now he has blessed us, what good are we to him?
In the book of Matthew chapter 5:34 tells us that Jesus gave his sermon on the mount about loving our enemies, and praying for those who are mean to us. God knows our hearts and thoughts about people love one’s family members and neighbors, friends and others so don’t think you are fooling him because you’re not. He said there will be conflict and no peace between family members and others. In the book of Luke, chapter 12:51-53 tells us that family of five will be divided with two of them against the other three. And that father’s and sons will turn against one another and mothers and daughters will do the same so don’t be surprised when you experienced this or you might’ve have already. All we can do is pray for them and hope they find peace and love so that God can bless them with Grace for others. If you want to see a change with your enemies it starts with you by showing love.
When Jesus gave his sermon on the mount, the beatitudes, he clearly stated your yes, should be yes and your no should be no and anything else said comes from the evil one Matthew 5:38. Are there times when you say “I don’t know because you don’t want to give a straight answer? Or do you ever say yes but want to say no because you don’t want to hurt that persons feelings. In this episode you will learn that being honest with yourself first will help you with saying no or yes and mean it.
In the book of proverbs, chapter 9:10, Solomon writes knowing our Lord, respecting, and obeying him is the beginning of wisdom. For example, the apostle Paul ran right into the beginning of wisdom. When he was on the road to Damascus, he was blinded by the light flashing around him from heaven, and after three days, his eyes open, and he became a different man. From then on, he serve Jesus, and was full of God’s wisdom Acts 9:3-6. Dr. Galvez talks about three types of leaders that exist. And wisdom begins with knowing God, because he gives us insight into how to live right through the Holy Spirit. She gives an example of how Solomon’s asked God to make him wise and teach him right from wrong 1 King 3:9.
Apostle Paul’s letter to the Philippians chapter 3:9 said righteousness comes through faith in Christ for God‘s way of making us right depends on our faith. Paul also gives an example of Abraham in Romans chapter 4 , it’s not our good works that we brings to the table that makes us righteousness or even our love for God. It’s our faith through Jesus Christ. Abraham believed in God and his promises. He obeyed, trusted and waited on God. He never wavered. God declared him righteous because of his faith. For all who believe, it is because of our faith in Jesus Christ, that God gives his righteousness, Romans 3:22.
The apostle Paul speaks of God’s spiritual gifts, and how they stem from the same spirit. He said the spirit decides which gifts to give to each of us. Paul said that these gifts are given to us to build up the body of Christ. So we are one body with many parts, and we need each other to make it work for the good of the body. God spirit baptized each of us, and made us part of the body of Christ. Now we eat drink from the same spirit first Corinthians chapter 12:12-13. We are given many spiritual gifts through our journey in life. Our responsibility is to take those gifts to serve with a grateful heart without complaining.
Spiritual intuition is that voice that will guide you in the right direction and help you avoid problems. But the key is to trust and obey your spiritual intuition. The apostles Paul’s letter to the Corinthians tells us, for what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him.
Timing is everything, and everything has its time. There are no accidents and things happen for a reason. In the book of Romans the apostle Paul tells us that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love him, and are called according to his purpose. Dr. Sylvia Galvez believe God chooses us and schedules opportunities with people to help us and or test us for our own good. So we have to respect that timing is everything and everything you experience in Life comes in it’s own time.
Killing it with kindness will be difficult for you, if you are stuck in Anger, because you are still living in the past making it difficult to be kind to people. Dr. Galvez share an example of how David in the Old Testament is humble and a kind servant to king Saul even though King Saul wanted to kill him. David knew it but refused to retaliate. David was a man after Gods heart and made every effort to please him. And he knew King Saul was anointed and didn’t want to hurt him…
We all face changes in life and have to make adjustments. some people don’t like change but change is good because you learning about yourself in the process. Like the Apostle Paul when he was stop by God on the road to Damascus. God told him about his son Jesus and that the only way to God was through his son our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul’s life changed for the better and so can ours if we seek God daily because God said Greater is he that lives in you than he that lives in the world. In other words God spirit lives in us. So we need not be afraid and trust that God Will guide us through our life journey.
Breaking bread with family members and friends is about sitting down anywhere and eating. It’s connecting and sharing things learning from one another bonding and fellowship. Breaking bread with family and friends will make you happier, more satisfied with life, trusting others and connecting with your community. Jesus broke bread with his disciples for the last super. He said breaking bread is his body that would be given up for our sins, so breaking bread is essential to God. He wants us to have unity and connection with family and friends.
In this episode you will learn that helping the same person repeatedly, family members or friends can hinder them from pursuing God. So you have to stop and move out of Gods way so that they can seek him. By Saying no and encouraging them to turn to God for help is the answer to their problems. God wants us to Ask, Knock, and Seek him. He promised to open the door and show us the way Matthew 7:7.
In this episode you learn that whatever you think and say can manifest in your life. Our words provide affirmation of belief in our innermost thoughts. Dr. Sylvia Galvez quotes James chapter 3. “Our tongues is like a spark that can dirty our bodies. “ We must get in the habit of speaking positive and keep negative thinking out of our minds.

Greetings from Keeping it 100 Women of God I want to thank everyone who listen to the last podcast and who left me kind messages. In 1995, 28 years ago.I open residential licensed group homes in San Diego, Ca.I wanted to work with, mentor, and care for foster girls who need it direction. The group homes were long-term placements which meant the girls can stay as long as they wanted and needed it with approval of their county social workers. Some remained in the program for six months, one year, two years, and up to six years, sometimes two days. These were teenage girls, 13 to 19 years old.At one point, I was responsible for 18 girls. They all had social workers,Educational advocate, and attorneys. Some had parents and extended family members who were involved in their lives.I was in my early 30s.I worked with the girls representatives, some parents, and family members, sometimes on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Can you imagine all the personalities I had to learn to work with?Let me tell you,it wasn’t easy. Some of these professionals were older. Some were young, somewhere males, but most were females. Many were very kind and professional, others were very moody bossy with major attitudes. Family members included. However, I felt blessed to be in a position to plant seeds and these young, innocent young ladies lives. It wasn’t their fault they ended up in the foster care system. But I knew I was responsible for teaching them to have a relationship with God, to ensure they completed their high school education, learned to work hard, and become independent but most importantly, learn to forgive their parents.I would ask the girls if they realize their parents had experienced past hurt and pain that accumulated to making them unfit to care for them. They couldn’t answer that question. Many parents were attics of some sort, some girls never knew their parents, others might have been incarcerated or homeless, and some we’re not mentally equipped to handle bad teenagers so they ended up in the system.I Taught these young ladies that we all have passed hurt and pain that needed to be uncovered to learn to forgive those who had hurt us.Suppose you sugarcoat pass hurt and pain and never address or uncovered it.If that is the case, you would constantly be suppressing your deep rooted feelings, and eventually they will come out negatively, with anger. And that is what you don’t want.I became the person I am today because I stop holding on to my Pass hurt and pain by uncovering it one layer at a time.I went back to visit my wounds.I wrote down every person’s name that hurt me and started uncovering the past hurt and tried to understand why.once I started pulling back each layer of hurt and pain, I understood that the other person who hurt me Probably didn’t mean to because they had underlying issues they hadn’t address or refused to address.Does this make sense?I was so mad at my parents at one point, but the more I understood their stories and problems, the easier it was for me to forgive them. my parents refuse to look in the mirror and admit they had underlying issues. In that case, you may not be able to do anything about their problems but accept who they are and work on healing yourself and learn to forgive them.God can help you.I couldn’t do it by myself. I need to God to help me humble my heart and give me grace. And he did, and I now i can look at my parents, friends, family members, and strangers with love and not judge them but pray for them. This period in my career was the best time of my life. To teach angry, depressed, moody, beautiful teenage girls who were once like me to be all they can be. The Takeaway for today’s message is to revisit and uncover your underline hurt and ask yourself why am I so hurt, disappointing and bothered about the person or parent who hurt me. Ask yourself why is it so hard for me to let go. To set it free and to accept the situation because I can’t change it. Ask God to help you understand their story
Greetings, from Keeping it 100 Women of God, before I get started on today’s topic, I want to thank everyone who listened to the last podcast and for those who reached out to me. I want to summarize my story about when my anger started and when I realized I was stuck in anger. As I share my story I want you to think about your story. My anger started as a preteen and continued into young adulthood. I remember hearing my parents fight. Many nights I was awakened from my sleep from hearing them yelling and fighting. I would immediately jump out of bed and position myself between the two. My dad would stop while my mom continued to yell at him. I didn’t understand why she kept cursing at him, it was like poking the bear. She always had to have the last word in. My dad would stop and sit in the living room couch, and I sat next to him. He said, your mom is on faithful. And I thought to myself, So are you! I hate it Fridays and Saturday nights because I knew something would break out. And when Sunday came, we were sitting in church as if nothing happened. I swear I didn’t understand. That is when my anger started. Because I figured they were fake and not keeping it 100. They finally divorced my dad married again my mom was dated but never remarried. I had to learn to curse and fight by witnessing my parents. remember listeners, we are our children’s first teacher. I eventually moved out of my moms home with my son and his father moved in with us shortly after. We live together for a couple of years. I called it plain house because we were only 17, and I barely knew how to cook. He worked, and I stayed home Caring for our son. One day he just stopped coming home on time. So, I started poking the bear and talking mess to the 6’3” man weighing 175 pounds, all muscles. I wasn’t afraid, not one bit. Until one night, I refuse to open the front door. He kicked the door open, came into the house, took his belt off, and started whipping me with it. I was screaming and running around the house, trying to get away from him, and at the same time, I was poking the bear, making it worse. A neighbor came to the door to get him to stop because she heard me screaming and while she was standing at the door and I ran outside the house and use the neighbors phone to call the police. See, back then, in the 80s there was no such thing as domestic violence like today. When the police came they said they couldn’t do anything because he had runoff. I remember that night asking God to please give me the strength to carry on without him I had to keep him away from me. I didn’t have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ then, but I had enough faith and believed in him. My sons dad never returned and I kept going and never look back. I was 19 with two kids my two sons never knew their dad. I immediately became a single mom and a dad I needed to figure out what I was going to do for work because I had refused to stay on public assistance welfare. One thing for sure my mom taught me to be independent and not to depend on anyone to care for me I think that should be every woman’s golden rule to hold down her own but that’s another podcast topic. I was 19 a high school dropout with two sons. That is when I got into the construction field as a painter. I worked side-by-side with men for over 10 years I was bullied harassed and talked about. But I gave it right back anytime I had a chance. And yes I was poking the bear. And my anger was building. One day I realized I was stuck on anger, or shall I say, we were stuck on each other. I started looking at my anger as though it was a real person, someone who was a part of me someone who enjoyed holding on me and wouldn’t let me go. She had total control over me and I allowed it. She came out whenever I felt irritable, mad, cheated on, looked at the wrong way, talked about, or yelled at, I was stuck in anger. Anger didn’t allow me to have a positive Relationship with anyone. I would loud her to control me.
