Emotions! Just reading that- a flood of feelings can come to mind. There are many- there's a little guess in this podcast on how many are recognized as universal emotions. Ever have the experience of the wheel of emotions- how you can be happy and joyful and in a second mad or sad? We are wonderfully made with emotions in creating the human experience. Sometimes, we don't always choose the best choice or harness how we use our emotions. Learning to have emotional balance/emotional intelligence is valued as much of intellectual intelligence. We can supercharge our emotions when we build a story that does not serve our very best. You'll hear the power of recognize, regulate and release in steading the emotion train (as opposed to being an emotional train wreck). You'll be educaated, inspired and entertained in this episode of emotions!

We welcome Heidi Ann to our podcast to discuss a tough topic- that of sibling abuse (physical & emotional). As I read her book, My Sister's Secret Keeper my heart broke on hearing her story and family dynamics. Yet in the unthinkable, in the hard- she shares how her faith carried her through. The word resiliency came bubbling up over and over again with each page I turned. The human spirit of rising above unthinkable circumstances is certainly captured and celebrated in the book and in our podcast. It's in the hard, where we get to meet faith, courage, bravery and resiliency. I'm honored that Heidi Ann was willing to share her personal story with Feather & Foundation and that it be used not only to educate about sibling abuse- which is not talked about, but also to remind us of our resiliency when faced with unimaginable things in our life.

This timely episode came, as I was showing up for something that I really did not want to do....HOWEVER, I had made an commitment and I honor the commitments that I make. I am a person of my word. Thought I didn't want to be doing what I was doing, but the time I showed up in the parking lot- it was time for attitude adjustment and to show up as my best self. Showing up less than our best- everyone loses- especially ourselves. I learned early on - that I could not control situations or circumstances, and I could make it even worse by a lousy attitude and brewing negative talk and a story in my head oh and add in drama for more of emotional fire. I finally learned that I could not control the circumstances, but I could control the emotions and attitude around it. That was were the super power resided.

Have you been in a situation where someone is talking, having good ideas, going to do what they say....and then they don't! They don't show up for what they committed to doing. It's frustrating, maddening, disappointing...I could keep going with a whole list, but you get the drift. They failed to show up..not only for the people they made the promises to, but for themselves. For their character and reputation.

On the other hand, have you ever been the recipient of when someone showed up unexpectedly for you? Or you've been the person showing up to surprise or delight someone else? It's a blessing to both hearts and evokes so many emotions that get tied to a forever memory, and human connection and experience.

Show up for yourself (not in harsh judgement, but kind care). Show up in respect for yourself, using your voice for the good in this world. Amazing things happen when we show up. Thank you for being amazing by showing up to this podcast. I'm grateful!

Taking the time and connecting with friends (girlfriends and a new friend) was the inspiration for this episode. There a sweet conversations and moments when we take the time to connect with others. The taking the time gives a break from the endless things to do or get done list of life. We often live in the "I'll do it later" or "I've got time" mind set. Time is a thief and it waits for no one and we realized what it steals in life's everyday moments. Time marches on and we have no idea how much longer we have. That's why it's crucial to take the time. Make those minutes count in your life. Make the time.

At a recent family wedding as I looked at my family-- from where I come from- I couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging. I celebrate the relationships and the memories made with my extended family (aunts, uncles and cousins). We come together with a shared history and traditions from the past, and created new ones. We also have the ability to create our own "framily" with friends (the ones we pick, not assigned). What a gift to be gathered with people who care for you, show up, support you, cheer for you, challenge you (in a good way) and accept you.

If you are in a new place, or new season- you are looking to belong. Getting roots down is important. So look for those folks that are a match. Look for your tribe. We all crave a place & people to whom we belong.

Hanging out with little people is a joy in seeing how they see the world. There is just such a carefree attitude in how they approach everything. In the seriousness of life and all the things as an adult we need - being carefree gets buried. As children outgrow toys and put them away, much could be said about as we grow into adulthood, we tend to put away that childlike carefree attitude. When we can touch back to the past and nostalgia, we can invite carefree living and being. Being carefree is a quality, state of mind that wants to come out and play more often in our lives. We just need to invite it and embrace it. It creates well-being and overflowing joy in our soul.

Forgive- it can evoke all kinds of thoughts, feelings and emotions. When someone does something against us- oh boy, do we build the energy around what happened, what they did and can you believe it, when we share the story with others. Sometimes in reaching out we can have those conversations to have closure and move on. Many times, we don't get that or the outcome we desire. We forgive for us, not necessarily for the other person. It frees us from being prisoners- trapped in bitterness and grudges. How do we forgive those who hurt us? Betray us? Why do we need to forgive them? Forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting....we'll tackle that as well. Not only do we need to forgive others, but sometimes we need to forgive ourselves and give grace.

WE often live our lives with if or when I HAVE__ I can DO, than I can BE. It seems to have a waiting, wishing feeling, even a bit wishy-washy. We are waiting on the HAVE to arrive, before the DO can kick in and we can finally BE. When we flip the concept around to BE-DO-HAVE. We step into the BE first. When we BE- we then can SEE what/who we want to be or achieve. It's empowering, it's proactive- we focus on creating the BE, when we imagine, visualize, expect and act like what we want to BE- the DO kicks in (even if you aren't exactly sure of the DO- you just start in motion) and then you discover- the HAVE that you desired.

This could be a total "aha" in how you are living and help you create your dreams, desires and destiny.

BE-DO- HAVE!

Anticipation! If you are of a certain age, you just sang that!!! It's our WOW word for this episode. Anticipation creates excitement, hope, possibilities. When we are anticipating something, the days/time can seem to go so slowly, because we just can't wait for the thing to happen, or get the thing. When we are hanging out in the anticipating something, doubt and anxiousness can sneak in from seemingly no where. Finding a place to address those emotions in a healthy way can be empowering. You'll hear a great idea no how to do that, and can share with others and especially children. If you aren't currently in a mode of anticipation, it might be a good reminder to set up a date, call a friend, book that vacation, take that job interview, learn how to speak a new language, take up a new hobby with an end goal in mind. Part of living, is exactly that- living...growing, learning, becoming and anticipation makes it even more rewarding.

Recently celebrating some big new milestones- a new baby to our family (grandson) and stepping into a new decade for my birthday, I had a lot of time to reflect- on joy, on new, on new beginnings, and thinking of how time really does fly by. Mixed in was a hard situation, disappointment and expectations not met. So is life- the good and bad and coexist in the same space and it's weird navigating both. Reflection allows us to reminisce, appreciate, learn and grow. We can also choose to reflect light, love, joy and happiness in the world. Keep shining and be a mirror of goodness.

All is not as it seems.......with scrolling through social media we can look at other's lives and while one hand we feel connected because we can peek into their life, their vacation, their job, their family, but the other hand- we find ourselves disconnecting in comparison, lack, less then feelings, jealousy and envy. We forget that we are seeing their "high light" reels (curated, edited, filtered) and comparing it to our blooper reels. We don't' even do a fair comparison on highlight versus highlight. You'll hear a funny story about how you can be so sure of something (or told by others that this is the truth and what's happening) then you find out- all is not as it seems. In this day and age of information at a second's notice, social media, and AI- we all need to do our part in verifying, validating and being vigilant in what we read, believe and share. There's so much misinformation, let's not be part of spreading it. In most situations - we only see "our side" or perspective. As we know there are several sides, and all is not as it seems.

I always love how the WOW word finds me to talk about each episode. This episode is a dichotomy on Magnify from adventured and discoveries during VBS; to walking through hard stuff in life. Dealing with messy in life is hard. And how often do we get upset, mad, disappointed, sad, hurt and we tell the story over & over. We magnify the situation and with every story telling in our mind and hurt gains more momentum and grows the hurt and pain even more. Why do we magnify the less than great stuff. What would happen if we started to magnify the joy, happiness, the goodness and the positive. What if we found more gratitude and joy in every day. What if we magnified those stories over and over again? What if we walked it out looking for the awesomeness in life and focused on that more (even when the bumps & twists and turns of the unexpected happens).

After a few full, busy weeks of good things...I realized I needed a break. I didn't need to overschedule, I needed to create space of down time, with not expectation of "getting this done" or meeting goals or "should do's on my mental mind list". I enjoyed the slower days, with more freedom (one of the reasons I love summer days so much...summer is a carefree spirit). I thought if I needed this reminder, then perhaps someone listening or in THE FLOCK might need the gentle reminder. In the middle of a hectic day- we can be mindful in choosing space to "take a break" We can fall into the habit of doing something, because "we've always done it". Taking a step back to analyze- does this add value or improve my life, can be an eye-opening opportunity for self-preservation. Sometimes you need a break from a schedule, activity or a relationship. Sometimes, breaks are just a season, or short-term and sometimes they are permanent. There is alignment of mind, body & soul when we take our breaks. Honor. As a child, I was taught to respect "my elders" and public servants...pretty much all adults. To honor their position, even if as I got older didn't always agree or understand- I still needed to honor them. Today, Honor seems to be fleeting around us. The military recognizes "honor"- with an honor code. How can we honor our parents? Our family unit? Our co-workers? Our friends? And ourselves. Being present, giving eye contact, honoring commitments we make- we can be the change of bringing honor back into the mainstream by modeling it.

Faith is really revealed when we are in a valley in our life. Hardship can be swirling about us like a chaotic tornado- and we can stand in faith. This episode was inspired by 2 women who have walked through some tough life stuff, and in spite of the uncertainties in their life at the time (housing situation, jobs, financial insecurity)- they stood strong in their faith. Fast forward a few years and these women are victorious warriors who are thriving in their lives today. When someone stands strong in the faith, it encourages others to do the same. What's the size of your faith? What is the size of the faith of your friends (you'll hear a familiar story). A recent reunion and since then many conversations of people who have walked through some tough things (or currently in the middle of them) prompted this WOW word this week of Perseverance. I was inspired sitting with a group of very successful women listening to their beginning and the life things they had to navigate to rise to the top in their business field. On paper, it seemed like "success" could have easily evade them based on their life situations.....however, the thing called perseverance prevailed are they soared to the top 1% of their company. Leading and mentoring others to do the same. So inspiriting. Perseverance is inspiring....it's done in the hard, the messy and the moments when you want to give up-----but you don't- you keep going. When life pulls the rug out from under us- we are Reeling, then Dealing and then Healing if we are successful in growing through it. Perseverance is a trait we admire, applaud and desire. Think of the hard things you've had to deal with in your life and think of the perseverance you've had to overcome. You are stronger than you know.

Did you even have a situation where grief and joy can live side by side? It's a strange dichotomy. As my Aunt's 6 yr heaven homecoming day came, it makes me filled with sadness in how much I miss her, and yet joy in having loved her and have her impact my life. Also, on the same day- I was headed for reunion with my mentor and Pink Sisters (many in which we hadn't seen each other in 20 years). We were there to celebrate and appreciate our mentor, she too has been diagnosed with cancer in a tough prognosis, and we wanted the chance to let her know how much of an impact she has made on our lives and our families. As our business mentor, coach, and cheerleader and friends- she taught, encouraged, led by example and held our dreams, especially when we lost our vision. It was an extraordinary weekend. I couldn't get over her stamina, positivity. She may have had cancer, but cancer didn't have her as she focused on living. How would we live if we lived like we were dying? What would we be doing differently? What would we no longer be doing? What would we value? Check out this episode.

PIVOT! PIVOT! PIVOT! Oh, how can we all hear Ross saying this as the "Friends" (Rachel & Chandler) are helping to get a new couch up the staircase. We know when we make the time to spend with friends it fills our souls. I'll cover the benefits of what spending times with friends does for our mental health and physical health in this episode. The next time someone pops into your mind- make the time to reach out to them- text, dm, or better yet- pick up the phone and actually talk to them. Even if you leave a voice mail (ha- provided you set up your mailbox)- it will be a blessing to the receiver. Realizing time waits for no one, and it really is short- make the most of it by connecting with friends & family. Make it a new goal of being intentional of following up and reaching out on those pop ups on our mind and heart to connect and have those reunions. Who can you text or call to let them know you appreciate them, or thinking of them, or checking in with them, or that you love them?

Thanks for connecting with Feather & Foundation!

With the heart-wrenching images of the LA wildfires currently splashed all over the news/social media outlets- it is unbelievable all the destruction. The word apocalyptic has been used to describe the debris and ashes of where thriving neighborhoods, schools, businesses and churches once stood. As people share their stories through tears, grief and pain they seem to end with resiliency and hope. While we may not have our home destroyed- we all have trials and tribulations to deal with in our lives. Resiliency is strength- it isn't always loud- in fact it's usually in the quiet moments, the vulnerable moments, the raw moments that it sparks in us. We need to embrace it, and honor it....taking those little steps, one foot in front of the other and just keep going...especially if we would rather stay in the bed with covers over our head. A spark might have started the wildfires, resiliency can spark hope, encouragement and to just get going, keep moving, keep going, keep living, keep loving....resiliency. Thank you for liking, commenting, and sharing with others.

As the days wind down on another year. Many may be counting down the days, others are still holding onto the sweetness of this year. No matter which camp you are in, this exercise of taking some time (creating space- shout out to previous WOW episode) to review your year is a powerful practice. It will help you to celebrate the victories and wins of the year. You'll celebrate the joys, the people, the experiences that make your heart sing. You can also, gently look back over the hard stuff/the messy with no judgement, but to take the lesson and choose to become better versus bitter. You can see how you have grown, had new and had new experiences. There are several suggestions on how you can do your review. Plus there are some prompting questions that can help you remember and recall your year. You might even choose to write yourself a letter of highlights, learning and what are you looking to receive and manifest in the new year. This is a beautiful way to end the year in peace, and stand arms, heart, and mind opened wide to receive all that can be in the brand new year, without bringing anything no longer serving you into this new year. Leave it in the past.

Wishing you a beautiful new year- filled with Positivity, Possibilities, Joy, Beauty & Creativity.

Isn't it crazy that in one month out of the year- we try to cram in every tradition (celebrating old, creating new), so many parties (dinner, work, happy hours, gatherings, Fa-La-La's), plus if you have kids (add in concerts, recitals, plays), plus decorating, baking and shopping and wrapping and delivering presents....and all while having peace on earth!!! No wonder we are tired, exhausted and overwhelmed when we step into the new year. What if we were intentional and deliberate in creating space- in our lives- in our calendars, in our homes, in our minds and in our hearts? We can say "no" to good things to maintain our well- being or sense of peace. Creating more space, allows for spontaneous moments to bloom, or calm moments of grounding. We can lose sight of joy and peace when we a rushing through the holidays. Create space so the important things can be the main thing this holiday season. Create more space...for hope, peace, joy and love.

Thank you for sharing space with Feather & Foundation!

Recently, hurricanes have caused great devastation- loss of life, of people's homes, loss of jobs, and loss of dreams and in the aftermath of the heartbreak- goodwill has sprung forth in the form of so many heroes. Heroes whose jobs it is to help, and the common everyday folks doing their part to spread goodwill by showing care and compassion. Our spirit of humanity weaves us together- no matter our background, education level, ethnicity, religion or even political party. Don't believe the noise of the lies of division and differences. We are more alike and unity and goodwill will always prevail of lies and division. Be the sower of goodwilll out there...in the big things and the little moments of every day. Dreams..this is the second podcast (one of the very first episodes of Feather & Foundation was Dreams). Good thing we aren't limited to just one. We spend our life having dreams- when we were younger- they were unlimited and we believed everything and anything was possible. Then life gets ahold of you...busyness, experiences, cynicism, being realistic, doubt, not taking action- so many things are dream killers and stealers. I'll share some dreams come true, and the latest one that is relatively new - even though it was tucked away It takes courage to dream, and to follow that dream. When you stand in a dream come true- it takes your breath away and realize the holy moment of the giver of the dream and the talents, and gifts that HE has given to you- holy goosebump moments. Dreams include others, inspires others and encourages others. Amazing to think- the Creator of all, creates a dream in your heart, a specific dream, specifically to you and has also gifted you with the abilities to create that dream.

You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one, I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one- Imagine (by John Lennon). Join us dreamers for this episode. Go ahead dream a little dream, or a big dream and trust in the faithfulness by your obedience, taking action, daring and doing- your dream could be the answered prayer of someone else.

This week's WOW word Listening came from several situations this past week. From playing with my granddaughter, to having a discussion of different point of view with someone, to experiencing a session of gentle stretching in listening to others, as well as my own body. How can be a more engaged listener? So often when we are in a discussion with someone else, we can be so busy planning on what we are going to say or respond that we aren't actually even listening to them at all. Can we give people space, and be free of judgment in differences? Can we learn to still value the person, even if we have different perspectives. How can we get back as a society to being okay to respectfully disagree? Being an active and engaged listener can go a long way in diffusing communication breakdowns and helps others to be heard. Also, in this episode we visit about listening to your body- what is it telling you? Where do you carry your stress? Who & what do you listen to as you go about your day? It is empowering and alignment of your goals, dreams and inspirations. Do you listen to yourself- your intuition and gut? Awareness can help us have discernment in listening. Thank you for listening to Feather & Foundation and liking, commenting and sharing with others- as we grow The Flock in spreading positivity, possibilities, joy, beauty & creativity.

We are influence others in our sphere (whether were to eat lunch or shop or vacation) or leaving bigger imprints in people's lives and hearts. You'll hear the influence my grandmother had on my life. I'm sure you can think of those people in your life that had major influence on you. You never know when something you share with someone the impact that it can make in their life. You'll be inspired by the influence of my 80-year-old friend in a great story in this episode. Imagine if we all used our influence for good to unite people (not divide) and encourage hearts. Get out there you- influencer and share your gift, wisdom, time and talents with others.

Our WOW word is serve. We value when someone serves us- it's noticed and appreciated. How can we focus on serving others in our day? Serving others can be easy or natural- and many times comes at a cost (time, financial, investment, inconvenience). We'll discuss the many benefits of serving others. Be willing to not show up holding a plate waiting to be served, but grab that spoon and start serving others.

What a fun double WOW word episode as we dig deeper into Introverts & Extroverts. You can take a Myers Briggs personality test for more information on this topic to learn even more. A really easy way to identify if you have a preference is - how do you restore or receive your energy? Is it being alone, down time & recharging- then you are probably more Introverted. If you feel energized by being with people or social interactions- then you might be more Extroverted. If you can go between both- you probably don't have a strong preference and more midline. Hear about communication styles and understanding with the General & Aide. It's fun to learn about your personality/behavior style. It's powerful to learn about others- you'll begin to find them fascinating and not as frustrating. Be sure to comment- what are you Introvert? Or Extrovert? I can wait to hear. Funny now a trip to the mailbox to get mail and walking back to my porch- the swing beckons me to sit down. As I sift through the mail (task)- suddenly I start to notice the colors around me, the breeze, the sounds of the birds chirping over the squeaky sound of the swing moving. And I think this is so nice. And second thought is why don't I do this more often. Why is it so hard for us to practice the pause? When we take those moments to just pause- we can escape the schedule and to do lists and just be...be aware, be grateful, be present to ourselves. Those moments refuel our spirit, and flow and can give us more go. Also practicing the pause is good when dealing with others- especially in a difficult situation. Our normal tendancies can be a gut reaction in which we may say or do something we regret and causes breakdown in the relationship. Practicing the pause- allows us to respond instead. How can you incorporate the pauses today? How can you be more intentional in practicing the pause with yourself and with others? Be sure to share how you practiced the pause, and like and share with others as we grow "The Flock" here at Feather & Foundation.

If you are a member of THE FLOCK (faithful listeners) you've heard me talk about "matches". From the match game of selecting 3 random things in your day and see how they show up for you. I love seeing how many "matches" occur in my day and I'm always amused on how they are delivered. We ask with hopeful expectancy, and need to be open to the matches finding us. I believe it's spiritual and scientific. We have an awesome God who loves his children and like any good Father loves giving good & perfect gifts. We are reminded, we have not because, we ask not. You'll hear my story of my feather obsession and every time I find a feather (which I do!) it's like a love note from God- he sees me and loves me. I can also share so many of my friends end up taking pictures of feathers they find and sending them to me. It's also scientific with our amygdala (a structure in our brain) that works on primal instincts (protection of keeping us safe and fear and danger) and is also linked to behavior, emotional control and learning! That's a lot of things to manage and you can see how they could be in conflict with each other. You'll hear how matches scientifically. I love that both spiritual and science are both part of the magic of "matches". Why not play the match game and see what happens!!! Thank you for sharing, liking, commenting and following. It's a "match" that you joined in on this episode. #positiveexpectancy

We take on our discussion of grief this episode, which is a different direction of our typical podcast. It's a difficult and personal topic that everyone experiences in life. The road of grief has no handbooks, guidebooks, "how-to's" or cliff notes as you travel down the road in a road you didn't want to take. It's a solo journey. You'll hear about the 7 stages of grief. Grief is like a giant tsunami that knocks us out- we are stunned, shocked and filled with disbelief that it really is real. As you navigate through grief- you find the waves still come with no warning....a memory, sound, song, smell, or even thought can trigger a response. You will hear some ways to cope, and honor your loved one. We never get over grief- because we don't get over the loss of someone we love. Grief is the price we pay for loving someone. Please know if you are in the beginning stages of dealing with grief, or further along in the road- know you are seen and will be okay- there is no right or wrong way in dealing and figuring out how to handle grief. My prayers and hugs are with you. Thank you for listening to this very special episode that is dedicated to my Aunt Paula (like my big sister) as I remember her homegoing to heaven- 5 years ago today at 58 years old. Her impact, memories and love are gifts of her legacy & life. With great love my angel- Paula Dawn Shaffer Samselski

Loneliness is consider at an epidemic level. How can we be around so many people and still feel lonely? What if we worked at making connections with people. The people in our life that we know are acquainted with, to those that may be around us as we go about our day. We let the fullness of our lives keep us from having connections and making connections with others. It takes effort, it takes creating a space and with intentionality to connect. Valuing people goes a long way. Seeing people so important. In a previous episode I shared about putting heart stamps on people's heart as you move about your day, and at the end of the day- you can see your heart stamps (kinda like passport stamps). You'll hear about the amazing idea of the white envelope. Connecting with others means creating time, space, being a good listener, asking questions. Everyone has a story and people love to talk about themselves. You'll be amazed at the connections and things you have in common. This week- take 15 minutes a day to connect face to face with people- make the phone call, make the lunch date, make some plans. Your heart & health will be over flowing with joy.

Speaking of connecting- we are celebrating our 50th episode!!! Please join THE Flock by liking, commenting and sharaing with others- we want to connect and add more Faithfuls to The Flock!

We often strive for balance in our life, and it leaves us unbalanced, feeling guilty or stressed. What if we learned to swap out balance for harmony? Harmony creates a kinder measure. We can achieve alignment when our priorities are working together. When our car is aligned- it's smooth sailing. When the car is out of alignment- it's a rough, bumpy road. When we look at our priorities in our life like tires- each pair are attached by an axel for optimum efficiency. If those tires are out of sync- the car isn't performing at the highest level. Much like us & our life. If we have priorities linked together that don't support each other- we are out of alignment. When we select the right tires - goals- Physical, Job/Career, Spiritual, Financial, Goals/Dreams, Relationships, and Personal and pair them up with the right partner- we are in alignment. As we go along in the road of life- we will get flat tires- we learn to patch it to move on, we also must rotate the tires for the best performance, and sometimes we just need to replace them. Hear some questions that will help you achieve Alignment so you may keep moving down the road of life, in your best adventure in your God calling. In this episode our WOW word of prosperity gives us lots of discussion and thoughts... This word was floating around at the end of last year and as we moved into a new year. If you are new around here- you will quickly find out I'm big on "matches" in the word I'll take you on a true story (rabbit hole) about matches and how they manifest in your life and day- when we are open to asking, being aware....it is a beautiful God wink/love note. We take a look back at celebrating the victories of last year, and learning from the lessions- so we can put the year to rest. We aren't going to drag old stories, and emotional baggage into this brand new year of unlimited possibilities. Looking back on the holidays- who thought it was a good idea to do all the things (festive parties, fa-la-la) with all the people, plus add the kids holiday programs, and then let's make some new traditions while honoring and keeping the old, and let's run around shopping or online for gifts for those we love and let's decorate the house and make cookies- and let's do that all in 1 month! Is it any wonder why we start the year tired & exhausted? Gentleness kept bubbling up as a Wow word and I thought - no it should be a stronger, more powerful word to start the year. Then it really got me.....in all the noise and demands of new goal, being a new or better person (all good things) but coming off a busy holiday season- I craved being gentle with myself and my expectations- giving space, rest, recovery where it was needed. Our wow word for this podcast is bravery and we are joined by a special guest, my daughter Brianne. I chose this word for Brianne as you hear her story of being brave throughout her life (accidents, injuries, medical issues and walking through secondary infertility). Plus Brianne is a school teacher, so you know that's brave!!! We'll talk about how being brave might only require 8 seconds of courage- and in spite of fear- we can choose to be brave. We often think of being brave as Mel Gibson in Braveheart- however- many times a brave person- speaks out, stands up, or quietly handles the challenging or difficult. We also honor our Veterans who embody bravery n serving their country and around the world. Thank you Veteran's. How can you be brave in areas of your life? Brave in trying something new? Brave in a discussion? Brave in your relationships? Brave in being brave?

Of course, these are people who bring value to your life- not stress your nervous system. The laughter, the fun, the joy- so many endorphins are engaged when we spend time with people who bring light to our souls. I find it fascinating at class reunions on the dichotomy- you have a person who you shared a very pivotal time or season in your life that draws you together in memories and stories, and you also have a person before you that there is a gap of time, and who they have become in those years- that you don't really know. Crazy, right?

We'll cover who you should include in your tribe or friendship zone (and who to avoid- run, Forest run!) We'll tackle if reunions are so good for our wellbeing, what are the triggers that may make us avoid them?

Special shout out to the fabulous girl's trip six chicks, and to my amazing classmates- Central Columbia Blue Jays- class of 1983- this is dedicated to you!

What reunion can you set up and plan so you can get your cup filled. Instead of live like we are dying, we should be dying to live! Check out reunion podcast @featherandfoundation. Share the likes, comments and with others.

Our WOW word this week is celebrate on this episode of Feather & Foundation. We know how to celebrate the big events in our life, but we often miss the moments in the mundane. With loneliness at an all-time high, how can we create more community and celebrate people. We celebrate little baby's every little accomplishment, but as we lap through our life- the celebration seems to diminish. What if we were aware of people, see people and intentionally celebrate them. What if we intentionally celebrated our children's qualities, or character traits instead of the scoreboard or performance? The scoreboard & performance change.... their qualities, and traits do not. It gives children a solid foundation. What if you could find joy in celebrating the everyday things. It's important to put indelible marks of celebration in our brains, especially if we are working towards goals or achieved a goal. How do you celebrate yourself daily? Ready.... let's celebrate good times... come on... (shout out to Kool & the Gang).

This week's WOW word- civility had been bubbling up the last few weeks on being the word of the week (wow).  After witnessing several situations- it was time for civility and a discussion around it.  I know it's an old fashion word in that we don't use so much today, however it's needed now more than ever.  Where does it start? In our hearts, homes with our children's, in our communities, at our jobs.  We can live it and model it, and we can give it.  While it might seem like a drop in a pond, enough drops of civility can create a wave of it.  Together we can embrace civility and make a difference in this world.

This week we share faith in action and how to engage faith.  Faith is seeing the light with your heart, when all your eyes see is darkness.  Faith does not make things easy, (or stop the hard), but it makes them possible.  In the hard of life, sometimes all we can muster up is mustard seed size faith, but God can still use that.  Many times you have to "faith it" until you make it.  You will love the story of what faith looks like packaged in an egg.  We can walk into a room, switch a light on....we cannot see the electricity- but we have confidence in the light switch turning on.   Much like our lives.  We need to keep lighting up the faith switch and have confidence in unseen electricity conductor (God). Faith.

Our WOW word this week is courage. We are joined by Austin Campbell, founder of Lane Switch Consulting. I wanted Austin to share about courage in watching him live it out in deciding to leave a secure job as a teacher (and coach) to start a new beginning, new career and new place. It takes courage to reset and change. You'll hear about overcoming obstacles and even in the unsureness of live- courage shows up in the daily, sometimes smallest places. Sometimes we just need 7 seconds of courage to make the decision, take the steps, change something, do something different, speak up or choose. Despite a rough start to a new decision (bank account fraud, a day move that ended up taking 9 days, working a new job that required 100 phone calls a day and exceeding that goal, only to be let go 2 months later because of over hiring in the company, to finding a new job and starting a new business.) Wow lots of courage required. Austin will give you some tips on how to live courageously. Our best self and life is often on the other side of fear.

About Lane Switch Consulting: Austin being a former teacher saw the challenges of taking those skills and transferring them to corporate industry. How does lesson plans translate to the business world? After navigating the process and helping others, Austin realized the need for support of educators to know how to figure out what's next? What am I good at? What are my skill sets? He has created several options to support that transition from career mapping, defining skills, to resume writing, social media presence, job interview prep, to having a coach walk through the process.
