The Shot & The Chaser is a weekly podcast where Nick, Matt, and Joey get together to watch 1 disturbing movie and follow it up with 1 socially acceptable movie and try to find the resemblences.
Paul Giamatti deserves to be a Christmas king, but alas, only Alexander Payne seems to get it. As we enter the holidays the boys decided to knock out some watchlist Christmas movies! Joey brings a lost Christmas horror movie to our attention with Silent Night Bloody Night (or Night of the Dark Full Moon) as the shot, and to chase this down we watched the movie that killed Phil Morrison's career, All is Bright! The boys go over problematic family moments at the Thanksgiving table and what it takes to be a good human being, a lesson Phil Morrison could've used before writing whatever the hell All is Bright is. Happy Holidays Sheeple! The boys are back to discuss the dystopian real world nightmare we live in and also the heavy fall of of Phil Collins. For our shot, we have 1984 (god help us) and to chase this down we revisit a childhood favorite, Brother Bear! It did not age well! Nick apologizes for getting food poisoning, we go over our Thanksgiving plans, and the plight of the uneducated boomer :( I promise it'll be happier next episode!
Sorry for the delay valued consumer! Matt moved and this is our first episode recording from different locations and Nick worked really hard on the audio so be nice. We're letting spooky season marinate a little longer this year with the brain child of horrors such as Silent Hill with Jacob's Ladder! It's a cryer here at the studio. This is the last episode we will be recording in Nick's basement/altogether in the same room as Matthew is moving hours away and is effectively dead to all of us. On a lighter note, The Shining is our shot and it was Joey's first time watching! To chase this down we shatter the nostalgia barrier and endure the 2003 Haunted Mansion movie, which we didn't really address but def had some weird racist undertones. Nick B returns as a guest to talk about mechs, we casually discuss the new War of the Worlds (for reasons) and we do a spoiler free review of Weapons since Nick B and Matt haven't seen it yet. Slice of life. A challenging genre for some, a personal favorite for Joey. On this week's episode we watched Yasujirō Ozu's Tokyo Story and to chase this down we return to Noah Baumbach's filmography with The Squid and the Whale and Nick has a really hard time with it. It wasn't p*rn! Matt gave us a heart attack when he compared Faster, Pussycat to Bad Biology but luckily there were zero correlations between the two. Otherwise we'd be looking for a new cohost. To chase down the 1965 sexploitation flick, we watched Tarantino's self appointed "worst film" Deathproof (which is insane because Hateful 8 literally exists). Joey's brother bought a house, Nick announces some big McKinney news, and Matt expresses his love for Jaws. It's a fun one and we're all still friends. The new episode is out now!

On this week's terror filled episode, the boys checked out Kyoshi Kirosawa's Pulse and to chase it down we checked out the 2006 "classic" Stay Alive. Vinegar Syndrome, you know what to do. Nick watched all of the Final Destination movies, Matt gets Hannah to watch the Star Wars prequels, and Joey invites us to a baseball game! It's a wholesome episode of friendship without the internet here on the pod :)
It's a Joey pick episode! I wanna apologize right off the top because half of this episode is just me and Joey commentating on the active Knicks v Celtics game (spoiler alert Knicks won and Celtics season is over). When we aren't being a sports pod, we were reviewing Agnes Varda's Cleo from 5 to 7 and then to chase this down we made the regrettable decision to watch Before Sunset. After the nominations (awful) were announced we decided to take the next few weeks to knock out some of the heavy hitters for these years Academy Awards beginning with THE most controversial film Emilia Perez. A wildly racist AND transphobic hunk of waste! To chase this down, we watched Jesse Eisenberg's A Real Pain which was neither racist nor transphobic! Huge W there. We go over the nominations, the snubs, and the overall rage of the whole damn thing. You don't wanna miss it!
It's Oscar szn baby! To kick things off, the boys took a day trip to the Alamo and witnessed The Brutalist in all it's glory. To chase this down, we checked out the Mubi doc Grand Theft Hamlet, a movie filmed entirely in GTA online. We go over our wonderful meals, the beauty of the intermission, and a basic movie theater etiquette review as some people (in an Alamo no less) have forgotten how sitting in a movie theater works. Absolutely insane that the last David Lynch movie we watched together was Dune mere days before his death. We are very emotional about it, but listen to how chipper we are in this episode because next week the laughing stops. We're excited to see what this year may bring and what movies we will endure. 2024 was a surprising year for movies to say the least, but what were some of your favorites? There’s nowhere for you to run Joe Russo! Every year people have utter meltdowns about “worst of 2024” lists and we are here to tell you it’s totally normal and appropriate to dunk on a band movie and tonight we are gonna dunk on almost 30 unwatchable movies from this year! Matt somehow only came up with 9, Joey gets his heart broken by some of Matt’s bombastic choices, and Nick is back from the North Pole with hate in his heart. Movies are terrible and that is okay! We’ll be covering the best of 2024 next week, we got sleepy after 90 minutes of hate lol.
Nick was whisked away by Santa for a helping hand up at the North Pole, but luckily the big man himself decided to hang out on the pod this Christmas! ONE WEEK TIL CHRISTMAS OH MY GOD! In preparation for the best day ever (Nosferatu release day) we finally got Matt to watch It’s a Wonderful Life and everyone cries. To chase this down, we found a PG-13 Hallmark movie by the name of How Sarah Got Her Wings. Don’t sleep on this newfound subgenre of wholesome Hallmark. Matt is back on his Star Wars bullshit, Nick has not received tracking for Hundreds of Beavers, and Joey defends Joker 2. We are so close to Christmas!

Happy Holidays cinephiles! Sorry we were out for Thanksgiving, but we are back now! To start our 3rd year of Christmas movies we picked an evidently controversial topic with Die Hard as our shot. It's a Christmas movie, we will prove it. For the remainder of the month we will be watching Hallmark movies as our chasers so we started real strong with The Christmas Nanny, a movie that is also about holiday terrorism. We also ramble for like 30 minutes about the On Cinema universe and even purchase the On Cinema app live on air!
