The tongue might be a small lump of tissue but it can alter the entire course of your life, destroy and build churches and societies, express love or bitter hatred. James, the great 1st century pastor pleads with his readers to be aware that the tongue can do all this and even affect eternity! So, how do we use it as a force for good? What is Christianity really about? How do you know you're really right with God? There are two crowds. The faith team says we just need to know and believe the right stuff. The deeds team says Christianity is all about loving others and doing good works in the world. James, the brilliant 1st century pastor shows us neither team is right, and lovingly leads us to the true balance between faith and deeds that pleases God and does good to those around us.

This week, we offer a heartfelt thanks to those who have found ways to continue supporting our church's work in these trying times. David offers some worship music then we come to God's word.
Are you qualified for the job of 'God'? Most people would probably answer 'no way, I wouldn't dream of it'! But in James chapter 2, the concerned author shows there are really subtle ways of doing this that are harmful to our neighbours, and the message we preach. As a good pastor, he doesn't leave his readers there- but gives them the great news of how they can 'imitate God', bless the people around them, and live in true justice.

What is the real problem with the world, with humanity? Is there an answer or solution? There are a lot of answers to these questions on offer in our world today. Continuing our studies in the book of James, we find that he correctly diagnoses our problem, shows the solution God has provided, and gives us a way to respond that makes our lives, churches, and world a better place.

Right now we are almost finished a series on the Biblical covenants. We have considered how they act as a spine for understanding the central teaching and story of the Bible. This week we looked at the new covenant promised to the prophet Jeremiah, and considered the relevance of this chapter for the days we find ourselves in.
