Mark really highlighted the impact that having an exacting and no-nonsense manager had on his early career choices, and really pushed him towards making stronger career choices. One thing I’d like to highlight from today's episode is the idea of embracing challenge at the outset - that concept of Hard Easy that Art lives out. Accepting a challenge or even creating a challenge for yourself is a way of setting yourself up for a kind of easiness in life, later. It’s doing the hard thing first so you can enjoy the fruits of your labor. The second thing I want to touch on is the idea of “the bird picking the tree” which just means that you decide where you’re going to be, professionally. Your job isn’t something that chose you, and remembering that you have agency in that choice is an important idea as you look towards growing your success.

One thing I’d like to highlight from today's episode is the idea of taking something you’re already interested in, something you’re already passionate about and connecting that interest to something that can help you grow in your career. Connecting a job skill to something you already enjoy is where you can create expertise somewhat effortlessly. A second idea I want to touch on is the human emotion factor of the hiring process. You’ll notice Ben equated the hiring and interview process with dating, and in a sense, he’s right - the ways in which you respond to the timing of that can be either really successful or a huge turn-off, but it mostly comes down to correctly assessing your own value, living out that confidence in yourself, and adequately broadcasting that to potential employers.
