Friends for much longer than any of them care to admit, your three hosts bring extensive RPG experience from even before they met. For almost 100 years combined, they have played in and ran tabletop and live action games of every stripe. Since then, they have discussed, argued, kibitzed, broken down, built up, rearranged, and dissected every imaginable topic, frequently in living rooms in front of horrified onlookers who couldn't get a word in edgewise. The Tabletop Journeys project started as friends wanting to get together over Zoom to talk about the games they were running, they stuff that they had bought, and things that they thought were cool. And now, we hope that you do too!

You know how we are always saying these episodes are like the conversations we would have on your couch? Well, this one is the proof! We were just chatting during a meeting, talking about our storyteller nerves and insecurities, and Lewanika suddenly said, “We should be recording this!” Sometimes that really is how the magic happens. Enjoy!

In part two of our Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos review, we dive into the quest material that will take your characters through four years of magical matriculation. All three three hosts were impressed and pleasantly surprised as we read through the details of life on campus and the many activities, extracurriculars, on campus jobs, and rich student social structure that characters get to participate in. And that’s before we even get into the sinister plot behind the mysterious and dangerous events that plague students and professors alike during the characters' years of study!
As a warning, this episode does contain spoilers! So, if you plan to play through Strixhaven as a player, we strongly encourage you to hold off on this episode until after you have played the campaign… unless, of course, you're a back of the book reader anyway. If you do continue with us onto the campus and into college life, remember to keep your voice down - Class Is In Session!

Conditions - not just for the Storyteller anymore! Well, except maybe one…
Conflict in D&D 5e - physical, mental, or social - is about so much more than just damage or hit points, and strategic use of Conditions can quickly shift the balance one way or the other. In Today’s episode, Josh, Glen, and Lewanika dive deep into how to use Conditions not only as Storytellers, but as Players too. We hope you enjoy this stunningly exhaustive discussion of the various Conditions that your characters or NPCs may find themselves grappling with in your next session!
After you listen to our thoughts, we’d love to hear yours! Leave a comment about how you use Conditions with your characters or NPCs.

Welcome Travelers to a really big day for us here at Tabletop Journeys! We are excited to bring you today's episode, all about one of our favorite tools in the Storyteller's Toolbox, Collaborative Worldbuilding. Fans of the channel Actual Play will recognize a lot of the techniques that we are talking about in this episode.
But wait, as they say, there's more! We are also releasing on DMS Guild a full companion to the episode called The Traveler's Guide to Collaborative Worldbuilding. You can get a copy of the PDF for only $4.99 right through DMS Guide by clicking on that link. Inside, you will see a dozen roll tables that you can bring to your table, and a walk through of how to use them to most effectiveness. We hope you take a look and enjoy!

In the words of a fellow traveler along our path, we bid you shade and sweet water! This is a live recording that Lewanika and Josh did from Dr James Con a couple of weeks ago. Since Dr James was the biggest Dr. Who fan on the face of Gallifrey, we figured what topic could we dive into other than Time Travel! So join us and the audience from the convention as we talk about how to incorporate Time Travel into your games, and what pitfalls to avoid along your paths!

Welcome Travelers! We wrap up our Draconic Coverage this month with part 2 of our discussion about the latest book from Wizards of the Coast. Lewanika and Josh sat down to talk about the last half of Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, and talked a lot about the Draconomicon, the bestiary, and where this book fits in the list of fantastic titles that we have seen come out in the last year. This is not an episode to miss!
We are proud to partner with the James A Hussiere College Admissions Assistance Fund to help them raise money for an incredible purpose. Their mission is to provide assistance to poor, minority, and otherwise disadvantaged individuals by helping them overcome the hurdles in applying for college, including helping to pay application fees, fill out financial aid and scholarship forms. In the mean time, here is the episode from this past Saturday. Lewanika and Josh took a chance to go behind the screen of our normal Actual Play series, and talk about the first three missions from The Candlekeep Mysteries. This episode has both player and storyteller insight into those missions, and is a really great discussion on how to take them and bring them into your own homebrewed campaign!

Welcome Travelers! For today's episode we are taking a dip into the Storytellers Toolbox. We see this question asked all over the place. "I have a high level party, and everything that I throw in front of them gets chewed up, how do I challenge them?" Our answer has always been three things: minions, legendary actions, and lair actions / environmental factors. So, on today's episode, Lewanika and Josh sat down to talk about how to craft actions appropriate for your party, and what sort of things to watch out for.
Lewanika also mentioned a couple of sources. Make sure you check out https://blackcitadelrpg.com/ and https://www.flutesloot.com/

Hello everyone! We are so excited to be back from vacation, and keep bringing you awesome content. Today's show is no exception. We have a great interview with Mike Cherry from The Tangled Web, which is a Play by Post game hosting site, and we go into the nitty-gritty about what play by post games really are, how they work, how you can join (and see your three favorite podcast hosts on there), and in general just having a great time talking about this offshoot of the TTRPG community. If you are looking to pump up your roleplaying pillar, this is a great way to do it!

Here is the second part of our deep dive into the Cleric Spell domains, and this is another great episode. If you haven't listened to the first one from last week, we do strongly recommend checking it out because there is a lot of discussion at the front of the episode about the Cleric Class. Josh had said at one point that this was probably his favorite of the subclass discussions, and we hope you agree that there are some real surprises in this episode!
And just for grins, here is the way all the scores shook out. There are some pretty wild swings in those stats!

Welcome to today's Side Quest! You have heard us talk at length about the games that we have played while Ben was storytelling. We figured it was time to bring him on to talk about one of his and our favorite topics! This episode starts off being about how he would approach physically manning fig armies during battles, and what the benefits were, but we talk a lot about the old, epic games that we ran with him. Just a really fun episode that we hope you enjoy!

Welcome Travelers! We are continuing our journey into the depths of the new Ravenloft book from WotC! Today, we are talking about the chapters aimed at the storytellers. Chapters 2 and 4 walk through crafting the environment for your game and running horror campaigns. These are exceptionally useful chapters, and we strongly recommend reading them closely, and using their material in all your games, but especially Ravenloft!
We also have two announcements about up coming content, so keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks.

Welcome everyone to today's episode! We are talking about the big concept of Storyteller roles here today, and talking about how to balance player expectations, storyteller narrative, and how to build a world that is both dynamic and predictable without painting your players into a corner that they don't feel they have any say over. You know, something light and airy.
We mention a couple of tools on the show, so make sure you check them all out. There will be another episode where we talk just about world building tools, and include things like DonJon, FNG, and other sites that we have accumulated over the years.
