The Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICONS) and USA Powerlifting (USAPL) held a joint press conference on Monday June 12, 2023 to protest a district court’s ruling that USAPL must cease operations in Minnesota unless it permits male athletes to compete against women in powerlifting competitions.

Candice Jackson is a partner with the law firm Jackson Bone LLP, launched in 2022 to fight for the sex-based rights of girls and women. Candice served as the head of the Office for Civil Rights and Deputy General Counsel in the US Department of Education, where she spearheaded the nation’s first Title IX regulations addressing campus sexual harassment and assault.
Mara Yamauchi is a two-time Olympian, Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, and the UK's third fastest female marathon runner ever. In 2009, she finished second in the London Marathon and was ranked second in the world in women's road running. She has also competed in 5 World Championships, 2 European Championships, and won the England National Cross Country Championships in 1998. Alongside Sharron Davies, Victoria Hood and other female athletes, Mara speaks up in defense of women's sport in the UK.
Lauren Bondly clearly articulates why women need a protected category in sports and deserve to be treated fairly. Lauren is an Age-Group National Champion and National Team member and is beginning to organize the ICONS Triathlon organization.
Dr Linda Blade is a Canadian and NCAA Track & Field All American, a Canadian rep to the International Consortium on Female Sport and the President of Athletics Alberta. She has 25 years of coaching experience across over 15 sports. In this presentation she shares the evolution of sports policy that has allowed males to compete in female sport. She also discusses the approaches that have been used to verify the eligibility for the women's category as well as how we should approach it going forward.
