For the unexposed, the Opulent Temple started as a Large Scale Art & Music theme camp at the annual Burning Man arts festival that takes place in the Black Rock desert of Nevada the week before Labor Day. We throw nightly parties showcasing underground, world class electronic dance music in a setting of art and creation we've made ourselves. Our community and fund raising events are based in San Francisco, and though our production is associated with the BM event, you can find us in many settings wherever there's fun to be had.
The Vision of the Opulent Temple is to gift a space for sacred dance to world class dance music. It is our intention to create the space for peak experience, community development, and inspiration that serves as a road map for what's possible in the so called 'default world.' The effort is self generated by the tribe, ie., no one gets paid to create our production. On the contrary, key members put a lot of their own time, effort, and sometimes money all year around to bring it back every year.
It's not just about partying.
It is our view that social change will not happen without individuals doing their part to elevate our collective spiritual center of gravity. Thus, it is our responsibility to nudge our own evolution to catch up with the outpaced growth of technology without the soul getting left behind. It's within this community of creative seekers that coalesces around the playa tribes that leaders must emerge to help steer this nation and this world towards a better day.
To create a space for Sacred Dance is to create a playground for connection with the Eternal, but in our case, still infused with the need for social action in the real world. Big beats and community are the launching point for insight to remind us there is a point to evolution. Transcendence, and nothing less. It might sound like hippy New Age shit, but in this case that doesn't mean it isn't true...
The Musical Vision We're obviously firm believers in the beat, the transcending properties of mind blowing electronic dance music (EDM), both to open the heart and make the ass shake depending on one's preference and the moment. We value diversity in the range of world class artists that play our camp, as well as the camp dj's who build it so get to play what they feel. Most nights are fairly cohesive unto themselves, but day to day it can be all over the place. Our past line ups speak for themselves.
We'll see you in the sweet spot, under the stars...
"Always excited when I get to spin for one of the best events in the Bay. Opulent Temple’s Sacred Dance fundraiser has a long tradition in the burner / dance community. It’s always great to see everyone looking sharp in their best white attire. I started the night with some bassy progressive house that got people moving as they arrived. The atmosphere, decor, visuals, performers, and music were all on point throughout the night. Definitely another night to remember." -Just B:: SETLIST ::1. Stay There -Tonic Walter2. São Miguel beams with his enigmatic performance and alluring music at Opulent Temple Thursday night, Burning Man 2024.
Don Gentry recorded live from the Goldpod debut on Monday night! Welcoming the first crowds to dance in the fire at Opulent Temple 2024 with a heavy hitting mix of house, techno and breaks. Don sets the musical tone for the week and delivers a rave classic!
In this installment, Elsa Seal greets the day with a groovy & glorious "2 o'clock Sunrise" set. Recorded live in the newly enhanced dj booth dubbed the "GoldPod" to close the 20th annual Wednesday Opulent Temple Sacred Dance White Party at Burning Man 2024 "Curiouser & Curiouser"
Our next live recording release from our SF White Party series is from our OT resident and power team extraordinaire, Richard Mixon. His cross-genre set seriously heated up the dancefloor in the main room! 🤍 🔊"It was once again an honor to play at one of my favorite parties of the year; Opulent Temple's Sacred Dance party. It was a very special occasion for me this year, as it was the first time playing as a new member of the LGBTQ community. Like most of my sets, this one is musical journey through many different sub-genres of electronic music. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did playing that night" - Richard Mixon
Want to relive the magic of our epic SF White Party or experience it for the first time if you missed out? We are releasing all of the live recordings from the night from your listening pleasure. This next set of soulful Melodic House is from our new OT resident and all around fun guy, Just B. "This year’s Opulent Temple’s annual Sacred Dance fundraiser (aka White Party) was absolutely amazing. I was fortunate and honored to spin tunes on the main dance floor for the first time. Opened the night with some heavenly melodic house tracks that warmed up the crowd streaming into the venue. The vibe, decor, visuals, performers and music were on point all night. Was definitely a night to remember."– Just B:: SETLIST ::1. The Space In Between (Ben Bohmer Remix) - Jan Blomqvist2. Altered State - David Lindmer3. The One - Matan Caps4. Totem - Michael Anthony5. White out conditions all day chased us into the early party of Friday night, but naturally mostly cleared up by the time Above & Beyond hit the booth to an electric crowd who would have weathered any elements to dance and witness this legendary moment in OT's long history. The power and melody carried us all into desert magic. Hope this set takes you back.
From Syd on this set: Opening night Monday was a time to start out with fun energy, some bangin' tech and bass house, and big tunes. But, as the set went on, I wanted to set up Hoj, who was on after me, proper with a gradual slow down to some prettier melodic house and techno. So this set plays like 2 sets, but hope you enjoy the playa range and the journey!
Don Gentry of Dallas-based Sonic Soul Tribe is a deep-rooted DJ who's no stranger to the Opulent Temple @ Burning Man lineup. You'll find this mix draws on experience. With a dust & lightning storm enhancing the Monday night vibe, Don Gentry kept the dancefloor charged and the people dancing!
Mr. Bounceman, Opulent friend and bouncemaster of the legendary BoUnCe Art Car was part of our very spirited Monday night bounce back to BRC and the 2 o'clock corner! Enjoy his hour of bumpin & jumpin!
Taking the controls Saturday night directly following the man burn was our very own Grammar. Stage fabricator, lighting designer, flame effect technician and Opulent Temple resident dj - Grammar stoked the flames for two hours of both liquid and dancefloor drum & bass. The theme for Saturday was 'Still Burning' and this set does just that - it keeps the party going through the night!
Elsa makes her Opulent Temple Burning Man debut! Providing a flurry of fun & feminine dance selections she sets the stage for our crown jewel - Wednesday night's Sacred Dance white attire celebration. An evening for the ages, Elsa graces the OPod alongside founder Syd Gris as well as the legendary Carl Cox and very special guest John Summit.
With a proper handoff and intro from special guest Marten Hørger, our OG OT resident fueled the Thursday night dancefloor with an hour of brooding, dark and heavy tech house and bass house -- and came to light it up!🔥 In the words of Marten Hørger, "Who's ready for Billy Seal!"
"Bringing old school sound to the new shit!"
JustCJ took the helm at 2:30am after a jaw dropping Monday night turnout, delivering a solid closing set of stompy tech house for our first night back after the long hiatus.
Longtime friends and co-creators of OT, Emily Fox and Nathan Vain form the DJ and producer duo Emanate. In this mix, the pair take you on a deep sonic journey into a late Friday night at Opulent Temple's desert dancefloor underneath the fire and stars.
Denver-based Bad Asstronaut and OT homie, Dugan, elevates the Friday night dancefloor with uplifting trance tunes sprinkled with some classic gems. This Bad Asstronaut's mix will take you to back to Black Rock Desert and beyond. Volume up and prepare for liftoff...
Just B understands the assignment. Dropping big tunes perfect for a fire breathing DJ booth yet keeping it seductive with occasional sultry lyrics. Bearing in mind the year's theme, you'll hear samples like Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams" or Biggie's line "It was all a dream". A very cool tech house assortment for your eardrums.
Richard Mixon on Saturday night was pandemonium! The OT resident sets the dancefloor free with an hour of groove on burn night. Touches of his signature sounds of disco house throughout this otherwise banging, edgy mix will bring you right back into the dusty arena of fire.
Stuck in COVID lock down, Brian (aka DJ ElectroFi) wanted to tip toe away from his usual house and disco vibes. This set is pumping techno with synths, vocal hooks, and a little acid thrown in for good measure. We hope you enjoy the set, and the special tribute at the end recorded live at the trash fence.
Our stacked line up for the sold out LA Sacred Dance event this year meant I got to play early. Gave me a welcome chance to build energy. Opening for Croatia Squad meant I didn't get to play any Croatia Squad. :-P Opening sets are always better for re-listen value later cause the deeper tracks have more to offer over time. Many shades of house, thanks LA for an amazing night
It's Christmas, and we're here to give you a present in the form of Wayne Lynch...
Join Wayne Lynch for a journey through ethereal, melodic techno as we bring you the live recording from our magical Snow Ball party at Public Works. The genre-fluid set carefully blends forthcoming, unreleased tracks with niche house gems.

"Opportunity of a lifetime. Ten years ago, to this date, the first time, hearing DJ Dan, seeing Opulent Temple, experiencing burring man for the first time. This Idaho boy walked into burning man oblivious, overwhelmed, and awestruck. I discovered a love, a community, and music. Inspired, we built a Denver camp called the Bad Astronauts. My community, music, people. Ten years later being able to play, on that stage, the place where it all started. This set encompasses over seven years of my favorite music, played on that one magical night, on that one magical stage, at that one magical place."

What a way to ring in the new year! This is my 10:30 - midnight set from the ridiculously amazing New Bohemia NYE party at the Mint in San Francisco. I opened the stage so we start off slow and groovy and let the energy build as we get closer to the countdown. Some of my very favorite tracks on 2017 are here, including my pick for track of the year which I played right at midnight.
