Mildred is a retired Program manager from the Departement of Social Services in Columbia, SC
Mildred is a mother of two Black men, raised to be leaders, providers, and above all humble servants of God.
We discuss the importance of rooting Black boy's identity in God and providing them with opportunities to learn and grow. We delve into the various phases of Black men in childhood and how parents can help them gain leadership skills to navigate the challenges they may face and avoid falling prey to peer pressure.

Black maternal health is at risk and three to four times more likely to result in death after or during birth than our white counterparts. It is time for us to discuss the solution at large. Addressing the quality of healthcare, education of options, bias, ever-growing healthcare desserts, and systemic racism. So, we are discussing options and bias with "Dr. J."
Janet A. Williams, DNP, MSM, CNM, who is also known as "Dr. J," has generously shared her experience with The MatriArch Podcast. She has helped over 900 mothers deliver their babies and provided guidance to other healthcare professionals on how to eliminate bias. Dr. J talks about the current state of healthcare bias and provides insight into how black women can understand their options in their birth plans. She also discusses how to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals such as OBGYNs, Nurses, Midwives, and Doulas and how to ask the right questions that fit a mother's needs.Hospital policies, requirements, and complexities can be overwhelming, but Dr. J has provided total patient care by combining her home care and nursing hospital experience. The MatriArch Podcast hopes this conversation will provide you with more birthing options and encourage you to be more open to your biases while interacting with others. We also hope you will gain the tools to initiate change in healthcare or other areas, whether on the patient or healthcare side.

We are constantly looking for the LORD in our walk of life, and finding a home church with the right people, the right leadership, and the right framework can be a bit of a hunt. However, God always places you and your loved ones in the proper place as it is ordained. So, join me and my family's quest to find the right church during times that are changing. How diversity in church is calling for different things than we are used to and how to still support the black churches that got us through slavery, Jim Crow, and other tough moments in time as a people.
