Week 3 of Thessalonians we look at verses 1-16 off chapter 2.  Here Paul repeats a declaration in verse 1 and then provides proof texts in verses 2-16, identical to chapter 1.

Recall from chapter 1:4 how Paul declared, “We know” that the Thessalonians believers are brothers, beloved by God and chosen.

Paul then provided proof texts in verses 5-10.

Chapter 2 Paul flips the script and declares the Thessalonians “know” that their coming to them was not in vain.

Verses 2-16 are Paul’s proof texts for his declaration in verse 1.

Similar to chapter 1, Paul provides a more detailed account of 1:5 describing their behavior among them. Then Paul shoes the Thessalonians response.

13-Week study through 1st Thessalonians and 2nd Thessalonians

Session 1 - Introduction through 5 Chapters

Why is this letter written? Does Paul need to CORRECT DOCTRINE?

Does Paul need to CORRECT MORAL BEHAVIOR, SIN?

Are they OBSTINATE and DISOBEDIENT?

Are they in the THROES OF APOSTASY in the same way the churches in Galatia were?

Had they begun to GIVE EAR TO DEMON DOCTRINES and so QUICKLY DENY THE LORD JESUS as the only means of salvation?

No – to all of those questions!

This letter is markedly different than Paul’s letter to the Galatians. A few reminders of how Paul addressed the Galatian believers:

• 10 negative verses in Galatians (HIGHLIGHT JUST 2)

• 3:1,3 ANOETOS, UNTHINKING, FOOLISH, BEWITCHED

[Gal 3:1 ESV] O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified.

[Gal 3:3 ESV] Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

[Gal 3:4 ESV] Did you suffer so many things in vain--if indeed it was in vain?

How does Paul address the believers in Thessalonica? • 39 VERSES OF PRAISE, COMMENDATION, AFFECTION, LOVE…
