Sailing has been a way to travel, a sport, and a leisure activity for 1000s of years. Even in Belleville, the yacht club has been around since 1876. However, it took until 2001 for sailing to become accessible to all people. Quinte Sailability is a sailing school for persons with a physical or developmental disability, regardless of age or degree of disability.
Today we will learn about the wonderful world of accessible sailing with Rachel Lamb the Quinte Sailability secretary-treasurer, and Brett Lyons Quinte Sailability Relations Officer.

Will not lie, I am fangirling a little bit. Natalie, or more formally known online as ‘Ambivalently Yours,’ is a multi-talented individual who wears many hats in the creative world.
Not only is she an artist, but she is also a graphic designer with our buds at Northern Craft Supply and an arts educator with the Ontario College of Art & Design. She is most known for her unique hand-drawn illustrations where she channels her complicated feelings and the feelings of strangers from her community on Tumblr. Speaking of social media, she has amassed over 250,000 followers on the internet and has gone viral more times than I can count.
Did I mention she likes cats?
Babes of Quinte, please welcome one of the Bay of Quinte’s most captivating and creative forces, Natalie of Ambivalently Yours!

After doing some fast math, we believe Benjamin Batelaan is our youngest guest.
From culinary school to pop-ups to magical macaroons and mirror-glazed cakes, Benjamin has been doing a LOT in a very short amount of time. He's a Loyalist College Alumni who graduated from Culinary Management in 2020 and went back last January to complete Business Management and Addictions and Mental Health.
His new space is maybe opening in two days from the day we're recording this... So, we're getting him at a wonderfully chaotic time.

Lindy Thomson was born in Belleville... lived life almost everywhere and then decided to settle back in Quinte. Larissa Punzalan grew up in Richmond Hill and now calls PEC home. Like many of us, she started a pandemic hobby but was one of the small number that kept at it! In the fall of 2021, she officially launched The Cookie Mama! Her skillet-style cookies are creative, delicious, and GIANT.
Larissa uses her social media platforms to showcase her delicious cookie creations and to highlight the importance of work-life balance.

As you may know (or not) before we interview guests, we have them fill out pre-interview forms. It's not deep: the basics, name, email, first job, current job, hometown. We also leave a spot for 'topics to avoid' or 'topics I definitely want to talk about and any additional comments we may need to know.
Just to give you an idea of how this episode is going to go, our next guest wrote, "poo poo" beside additional comments.
Kelly Scott is a medical esthetician at the Beauty Collective. She somehow went from a Loebs grocery clerk to Carleton for Sociology and Geography. And somehow ended up in medical esthetics. We'll dive into that and then also ask her questions about butthole hair removal.

Indigenous peoples continuously work to reclaim their rights, language, and culture that were taken from them through colonization.
Over 30 years ago a group of parents from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory came together to create a way to raise their children so they could learn and honour their language and culture. Through this goal came Tsi Tyónnheht Onkwawén:na which plays a significant role in ensuring community members have access to their culture and language.

Today we are excited to welcome our most fabulous guest to date. That Queen Ethan is originally from Kitchener but came to Belleville for high school. After two years at York University for Theatre and living that city life he eventually returned to the Quinte area and oh are we happy about it.
To prepare for this episode we naturally deep-dived into That Queen Ethan's Instagram. As you may expect, it is truly magical.
Drag, fashion, and makeup have always been an outlet for Ethan, and in 2021 after many years of dabbling in drag, he decided to nourish his passion and continue to develop his drag using a creative approach. That Queen Ethan is truly the Quinte Queen. You may have had the pleasure of going to Tasty Trivia at Karlo Estates or seeing her perform at different venues throughout the Bay of Quinte and County, including the Grind & Vine, and the Hayloft.
Babes of Quinte we will be fangirling hard today since we have That Queen Ethan in full drag in the studio, she is constantly serving creativity, fashion, boldness, and pure authenticity.

Today is our second time having sisters on the podcast and it always gets fun having siblings on the podcast. I mean who can you get more real with than family?
Naneen and Laurie spent most of their childhood in Toronto after their mom moved from Montreal to Tornoto and started a gourmet French food catering company. Naneen has worked a variety of jobs in the city and owned a landscaping business for many years. 10 years ago she decided to relocate to Prince Edward County and Buy an existing Jam business. County Fare is now a family-run business, and Naneen is supported by her sister Laurie, and husband Greg, and her son Owen assists with marketing and branding.
The quote on their website says "Sometimes, it takes the wrong turn to get you to the right place"- Mandy Hale. Today we are going to talk about working with family, taking a leap, and the food industry. Babes of Quinte please welcome Naneen the owner of County Fare and her sister Laurie.

We are so excited to welcome two Bay of Quinte locals who have opened an eclectic shop in Tyendinaga!
Megan Barnhart was born and raised in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. After high school, she went to Seneca College for Fashion merchandising. Along her way, she met a Skater boy, Ryan Bush, and she did not say "see you later boy" because now they are co-owners of Wavy.
Wavy is a wellness, skateboard, and specialty drinks store. Megan and Ryan are passionate about staying healthy and wanted to offer a space that offers the community the same, you can get delicious-looking hot beverages and smoothies you can add fungi to for added healthy benefits. Along with drinks they have skateboard gear, clothing designed and made in-house, and eco-friendly items. PLUS they are dedicated to supporting small local businesses and sell a variety of local vendors' products.
Today we are going to chat about how you gotta nourish to flourish and whatever else that comes to our mind. Babes of Quinte please welcome Megan Barnhart and Ryan Bush the owners of Wavy.

We met our next guest for the first time in person while he was taking a tour of our offices. Then we went to tour his studio. And now he's here. Does this mean we're best friends now? We think so.
We've always wondered what people think about when they go on runs, for Ash Murrell, it was AMP Visual Media. Show off.
In all seriousness, Ash has assembled a team of ridiculously talented people to create some of the most compelling visual media assets for clients like Mops Inc. The United Way, Quintelicious, Discover Belleville, and the Belleville Senators.
Babes of Quinte, please welcome Ash Murrell, Director and Creative Lead at AMP Visual Media.

Did you know that Black Bear Ridge Golf Course started to unfold by Real Estate developers in the late 1980s? It took several years to reach its opening date in 2005 but it immediately became one of the top new golf course designs in North America by Golf Digest.
Fast forward to a Global pandemic when two outta towners, decided to buy the course and transform the golf course into a four-season resort.
Cale Fair grew up near Guelph and moved to Toronto for his career. After a start-up he had been working on went under, he took time off which ended up being extended due to a global pandemic. His friend, Alex Sharpe, who recently bought Black Bear Ridge, asked if he would like to lead the operations at Black Bear Ridge, and he decided it was a great opportunity.
Katie Parodo grew up in the Bay of Quinte and her first job was at Strato's Pizza in Consecon then later attended Dalhousie University. She has server and hospitality experience which made her the perfect fit to take on the role of Hospitality Lead at the Black Bear Ridge Golf Course & Resort.
Babes of Quinte get ready to talk about golf as we welcome Cale Fair the Vice President of Black Bear Ridge and Katie Parodo Hospitality Lead at Black Bear Ridge.

Our guest today has the most contagious positive energy!
Ashely Watson grew up down the road in Bath but relocated with her family a couple of years ago to continue the family business in the Bay of Quinte.
In 1988 her mom, Jenny, and aunt, Susie, established Accent Kitchen Cabinet Refinishing. It started as refinishing and restoring antique furniture. In the last 30 years, the business has transitioned to refinishing kitchen cabinets using a lacquer finish.

Today we technically have our first out-of-towner. We were so happy she reached out to us after Brazen.
Meghan Hamilton is originally from Toronto and now calls Kingston home. After high school, she attended the Toronto Metropolitan University theatre school. Her post-secondary journey brought her struggle with anxiety and depression to the surface. After working in the acting world for a couple of years, she decided to choose happiness and switch paths. She began writing and learning how to produce film and theatre. She also started to play the guitar. She continued to put positive energy into music and still does.
That isn't even the big stuff! Megan is the founder of UBU Skills and is a speaking, visibility, and confidence coach with a positive and encouraging approach. She offers 1:1 coaching, programs for small business owners, and master classes to help people learn new skills, move past fears, and work towards speaking and presence goals.
She is passionate about supporting women and non-binary folks in their quests for speaking up, self-advocacy, and finding their true voices after years of society trying to keep us quiet! Babes of Quinte please welcome Megan Hamilton the founder of UBU Skillls!

Today we are excited to welcome a Quinte transplant who has become a close friend.
Alexis Garland started her journey into the flower world at a young age working in her Mother's Flower shop in Beaverton called "Garlands". She started the process of completing a BA in Archaeology at Trent University but after two years decided to head home and commit to foral design full time.
Her skills are insane and she brings so much beauty into the world through her dried and fresh floral designs for weddings and other occasions. She followed her passion and is now the head designer and CEO of Designs by Alexis Rose! She attends countless markets, takes weekly orders, works closely with local businesses, and runs floral workshops.
We admire her for her no non-sense attitude, being a fantastic mom to a firey little girl, and we are lucky enough to call her a friend! Babes of Quinte please welcome Alexis Garland the head designer and CEO of Designs by Alexis Rose.

Allow me to introduce a remarkable individual whose journey has been shaped by resilience, passion and a commitment to making a positive difference in the community.
Growing up in a modest household with a young single mother who worked tirelessly to provide the same opportunities as her classmates, she understands firsthand the value of inclusive experiences for children. Inspired by her upbringing, she's dedicated her career to supporting local families in need through their work.
With a background in radio broadcasting, she honed her skills under the guidance of a remarkable mentor and a supportive all-female sales team. However, her desire to effect positive change led her to embrace the role of Special Events Coordinator at The Children's Foundation. For the past 2.5 years, she's found fulfillment in the creative work and collaboration involved in hosting beautiful events and fundraising initiatives.
Babes of Quinte, please welcome, Zoey Jouwstra, the special events coordinator at the Children's Foundation.

With a lot of laughter, tears, and support from amazing listeners and guests, the Babes of Quinte podcast is celebrating 1-year (52 episodes).
In honor of 1-year, we wanted to have a one-on-one chat with each other. Naturally, it was a lot of tangents but was exactly what we needed. After one- year we have officially decided we have moved from "two under-qualified babes" to "two semi-qualified babes".
Thank you to all of you Babes of Quinte for supporting us through this whirlwind of a year!

Today we have a Quinte transplant who relocated to the area from Ottawa. Her first job was at the Disney Store in the Bayshore Mall in Ottawa and we love that.
Deanna Way is a gem of a human we first met at Brazen. She has a badass list of education, so she may be our most qualified guest yet. After high school, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in History and Philosophy from Carleton University and then went on to Algonquin College to complete an Advanced Diploma in Applied Museum Studies. She went abroad to receive a Master of Library and Information Science from Robert Gordon University.
She lives in Belleville but is our first guest to say they would rather live in Trenton. She is the Executive Director of the Quinte Museum of Natural History and is a big part of the reason why Quinte has the coolest dinosaur and whale exhibits. She is also the owner of Deanna Way Photography and shoots weddings and elopements in Ottawa and PEC! Plus she is a cat mom to three fur babies.

Today we have a true babe in the studio! She grew up down the road in the tiny town of Colborne. Her first job was at the Sobey's in Brighton but she spent a lot of time in our lovely town of Belleville.
After high school, she relocated to Belleville full-time and completed the developmental service worker program. She then decided to follow her undeniable love of chasing sunsets, natural light, and candid moments and become a photographer. She had a wide range of skills and offered lifestyle photography shoots for events, branding shoots, headshots, and more.
She recognizes that many women are incredibly hard on themselves and their bodies. After doing a Boudoir session herself, she discovered her truest passion for shooting boudoir sessions. She has built a team and created a full luxury experience. It is not just a photo shoot it is a true self-love package.

We are honoured that our next guest took time out of his day to come in to record with us. He is the definition of a Belleville local! He grew up in the east end and still lives in that area.
His journey into music began when he was just nine years old. He picked up a guitar for the first time in the 6th grade and although impatient in the learning process made it work for him. In middle school, he and a couple of buddies created a band and continued to play together through high school. After highschool in the mid-70s, he did probably the coolest thing, and he and the band bought a used Econoline van and turned pro.
After a turn of events. He ended up back in Quinte in the 90s and even ran a daycare for a year called Mr. Mom. This is when he started playing children's music.
In the late 90's, he teamed up with an old band member to start the band "All You Need Is Love", they played their last show in 2021. He did not stop there. In the early 2000s, he started playing music in retirement homes as a form of music therapy to help with memory loss.

Our next guest is someone Kay met when she first moved to the Bay of Quinte nearly 14 years ago. Admittedly, she hasn't seen him in about 8 years, but in her brain, they're still bros, so here we are....
He's currently a Realtor at the Rufo Real Estate team and makes informative content with his signature 'dad joke' humour. Like, how a single man shouldn't hang Beer Store artwork when staging a condo.
Don't let that fool you though, Evan is super knowledgeable about market trends, interest rates, income properties and the hottest topic on everyone's mind - the housing crisis.
During the pandemic, he chronicled his journey into fitness and boxing. We vividly remember a headband and a ball on a stretchy string. We also it remember going very poorly. We'll get into that a little later.
He's also a dad to two incredibly cute kids and married to a total bombshell baking queen. Babes of Quinte, please welcome, Evan Furmidge.

Today we have our first siblings on the pod. One is technically a recurring guest but due to technical difficulties, the general podcast listeners did not hear it.
Keirra Reid is the head chef at The Grange Winery. She also was kind enough to be our special guest for out "Let's See What Happens" Bingo. Her first official job was in a Bakery in Haliburton. She paved her way through the culinary world and now creates the most amazing food for Prince Edward County to Enjoy. She is a badass aunt and a dog mom to an adorable Aussie Shepard named Monty.
We did say siblings... during the bingo live we had the pleasure of meeting Kierra's sister, Christine! She is a true firecracker. You may have had the pleasure of seeing some of her amazing photography skills, most recently, all the amazing food photos from The Local Social House. She has over 14 years of experience and has done over 300 wedding shoots. She is honest, not afraid to get dirty, and loves tequila (same lady same). She loves running marathons which baffles us but we love a fit queen.
They grew up working in their family's construction business and are really good at flooring. They are each other's biggest cheerleaders and we want to be their best friends. Today we are talking to an extremely crafty kween! She is living our crafting dream!
We have been Instagram friends from near the beginning of the launch of the podcast and this luckily meant we have been able to watch her grow her family, with the addition of an adorable pupper. We've also had the pleasure of watching her take what brings her joy and grow it into a business.
Sarah Tokley is originally from Ingersoll, Ontario, but now calls Belleville home. She attended Durham College for sports administration but after having to regroup during the pandemic she followed her dream and opened Your Creative Junction. Your Creative Junction is using creativity to promote positive mental wellness (BIG SNAPS)!
She offers craft parties and workshops. She is a networking kween and has teamed up with other local creatives to offer collaborative crafting workshops. She recently took a huge step and opened a storefront at 444 Dundas St, W.
Today we are deep diving into our favourite world of crafting with the expert! Babes of Quinte please welcome Sarah Tokley the founder and owner of Your Creative Junction! And our new neighbour!

When I came across our next guest, I thought, "If I were to open a dictionary right now, this person's photo would be beside the definition of BDE."
For that uneducated, BDE is big dick energy, which means you walk with confidence, but not arrogance.
She was born in Chatham, Ontario. Which by the way is also home to Sam Panopoulos – inventor of the Hawaiian pizza, but now is a proud resident of Quinte West.
Her first job was corn detasseling and honestly have NO idea what that means. She left Chatham to pursue post-secondary in Occupational & Physiotherapy.
She's now a realtor & the team lead at McIntyre Vaughan & Co. - a real estate group with eXp Realty Brokerage. She also offers mentoring services to new realtors about how to get started in real estate. Spoiler alert: it's not all high-fashion and bell ringing.
Babes of Quinte, please welcome Dominique McIntyre.

TRIGGER WARNING: this episode discusses alcoholism, binge drinking, and alcohol abuse.
Our next guest's first job was hanging out with deformed lobsters at the Atlantic Fisheries Museum, which sounds actually kind of cute. I know lobsters aren't that cute, but I digress.
One of his current ventures started at a BBQ with a bonding moment, quick bff vibes and that indescribable, "let's start a business together" energy. Also reinforces why I think BBQs are the best.
That venture is called Finally Beverages. They make non-alcoholic versions of everyone's favourite cocktails in small batches using real ingredients and low sugar.
He is also a cool dad, has a bunch of plants, is an artist, and likes mushrooms, we'll unpack that one later.
Babes of Quinte, please welcome self-proclaimed local weirdo and co-owner of Finally Beverages, Alex Currie.

Trigger Warning: This episode contains talk about mental health, diet culture, body shame, and disordered eating
We are so happy that today's guest slid into our DMs a couple of months ago. From the moment we first spoke with we instantly clicked.
She is a Quinte local who grew up in beautiful Wellington. She listed her first job as a toss-up between her dad's butcher shop (which I am obsessed with) and working at Presquile Provincial Parks as a maintenance student. I mean what gets more Bay of Quinte than that?

Today we are chatting with a Quinte transplant who is originally from the west coast! Her hometown is Comox BC but she now calls the Bay of Quinte home.
She has an impressive resume. Right out of high school, she completed an office admin certificate. Later she completed a legal assistant certificate and started a personal training certificate. Ultimately she finished a diploma in Advanced Psychology and Counselling and SSW at Loyalist College. She then completed a degree in Family and Community Social Services through Guelph-Humber.
Her personal story led her to become a counsellor who focuses on a client-centred, solution-focused specialty in supporting women in finding freedom for themselves. Through a HAES-based lens aimed at helping clients feel less alone in their struggles with body image, she offers women the opportunity to develop new skills and ways of thinking.

On today's episode, we have the pleasure of chatting with Taylor Russett, a Campbellford local with an impressive background. Growing up near Hoards Station, Taylor is possibly the youngest guest we've had on the podcast. He earned his Bachelor of Communications and Media Studies from Carlton University and went on to complete a Masters in Management Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Queen's University.
Taylor's entrepreneurial spirit led him to start Russett Photography in 2016, where he specializes in capturing genuine expressions of love and connection, from family bonds to new engagements and baby's first moments. In 2020, he also opened the popular Grind and Vine in downtown Trenton, serving coffee, treats, and a selection of wine in an inclusive and accessible environment. Grind and Vine is also known for hosting entertaining events, including the Bitchin' Bingo Drag Brunch.
As if that wasn't enough, Taylor is also an active member of the Board of Directors at Trenval, advocating for and mentoring other local businesses. He volunteers with A Gift From the Heart and works with the City of Quinte West Events Department to bring exciting entertainment to the downtown core.
Without further ado, please welcome the fabulous Taylor Russett to the show!

Today we are talking to a Quinte transplant who has made a name for herself as a successful female entrepreneur in the area.
Stephanie Rayton is originally from Barrie and is a mom to three amazing girls. She relocated to the Bay of Quinte hoping for a slower-paced lifestyle. After settling in and getting to know her new community she launched her first business, Mommy Mops. Mommy Mops was the cleaning company you didn't have to clean for. Her hope was that busy families wouldn't beat themselves up about the state of their homes and welcome an outside cleaning service.
Stephanie is a fearless risk-taker, who loves what she does. Her focus is on business growth and development. With this focus came a rebrand of Mommy Mops into Mops Inc. Mops Inc. is a commercial cleaning service that puts vibrant cleanliness at the core of everything they do. The team of 30+ vibrant, quirky, laugh-loving people offers cleaning services for large commercial spaces, hotels, and multi-unit vacation rentals. They are led by their fearless leader Stephanie Rayton.

We are so excited to be chatting with two individuals bringing bold sandwiches to the Quinte Area!
Kyle was raised in Ottawa and eventually moved to Toronto to work in the corporate world. That is where he met his now wife, Nelda. Kyle had a dream of opening a sandwich parlour and with the support of his wife, the pair decided to move out of the big city to open a business in Prince Edward County. That is when Flossie’s made its way to the County. Kyle jumped in head first and started hustling sandwiches at the Wellington Farmers Market and around the Quinte area. In 2018, Flossie’s got a permanent home at Carson Arthurs Garden Market.
In 2018 James (aka. Jimmy) joined Kyle on the truck. If you have visited the truck you have probably heard the positive energy from James. Originally from Toronto, he relocated to our little paradise to assist Kyle. In the summer, he bikes from Belleville to the truck which has given him ridiculously strong calves.
From starting at the Wellington Farmers Market, Flossie’s now has two locations including a new one in Belleville at 250 Sidney St. We are so excited to welcome our friends and the badasses behind Flossie’s Sandwich parlour Kyle and James.

Today we are going to get educated about eye health 👀
Our guest today is a Batawa local whose fondest childhood memories were skiing at Batawa Ski Hill, exploring outdoor trails and going to the big town of Trenton for a movie and pizza.
She grew up in the eye business. Her first job was answering phones and selling glasses at the family Optometry business in Brighton. She took a victory lap at Albert College after finishing Grade 12 at Bayside Secondary School. Following her victory lap she attended the University of Ottawa where she completed an Honours Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Psychology. She then went on to complete a Master of Science Degree at theNew England College of Optometry in Boston.
She married her husband 2021 in Batawa. She continues to live and thrive in Batawa with her husband and cats while working at Dr. Coward and Associates as an optometrist.
Her social media educates people on eye health and eye exams. She is going to teach us about eyes and the importance of eye exams even if you have “good vision” while also dealing with our natural chaos.

We are not even sure how to start the introduction for our guest this week. You’ve definitely heard his name, you probably follow his Instagram, you may have had the pleasure of tasting his food, and you have possibly seen him on a Fibe TV show
Stealing most of the following information from his own website he grew up in rural Ontario and has French Canadian Roots. He knew at an early age that the kitchen was his calling. He completed training at George Brown College in Toronto and entered into the Big City Food Scene. He worked at Oliver Bonicini, LeSelect Bistro, Enoteca Sociale, and Parts & Labour.
After increasing local food and wine awareness in the City, he wanted a simple life and moved to Prince Edward County with his family. He put Wellington on the food map as a chef at Pomodoro and in late 2014 opened the Drake Devonshire Inn.
If this is not enough. in 2017, he launched an interactive private dining experience, followed by a super hawt Maple Syrup company. He has recently celebrated his 15th wedding anniversary and has some really cute kiddos.
He has started his acting career in the local Stoney Lonesome show and has been touched on the shoulder by one of my celebrity crushes, Matty Matheson.
His Instagram will make your mouth water with endless food pictures as he yells at you with all capitalized captions.

Our first ever BONUS episode!
Here's the deal~ we had an amazing conversation with Nikki Auten that ended up being a very long single episode. In part of our chat, Nikki educated us on Indigenous Terminology. We believe understanding Indigenous Terminology in Canada is very important, so we decided to created a shorter bonus episode focused on terms to educate us all.
In this episode we discuss:
🌟Terminology and definitions 🌟How to address different nations and groups 🌟what NOT to say, and 🌟 how to educate yourself!
✨We hope you enjoy and please share!

She is a local KWEEN who grew up in Deseronto and currently lives in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. She has a wealth of knowledge about Indigenous people's education, Indigenous food systems, Indigenous Peoples in Canada, and so much more!

She holds: 📚Diploma of General Business from Fleming College 📚Diploma of Mohawk Language from Trent University 📚Bachelor of Education specializing in Aboriginal Teaching from Queen's University 📚Bachelor of Indian/Native American Studies from Trent University
If that is not enough she is currently working on a Masters of Sustainability at Trent University. She is currently in Curriculum Development at the First National Technical Institute.
She is a mother, and grandmother, and is in the process of building a house! Katie had the honour of having her as a teacher at Fleming College, and she was honestly one of the best teachers. She is kind passionate and full of knowledge.
