In this episode, we welcome security expert Gil Blumberg to the show! Gil has been working in various roles in security for several years now and has some highly useful insights into the world of cybersecurity and M365!

We discuss the findings of our survey on email security in which we polled a large cross-section of the IT community with questions about M365 security. With this survey, we wanted to find out what types of attacks respondents are seeing, what common vectors they’re running into, as well as the impact of these attacks.

We’ve got Microsoft MVP Eric Siron for a conversation about the end of Hyper-V Server (the free SKU of Hyper-V). Again, to confirm, we’re talking about the free SKU of Hyper-V. The normal paid SKUs - the well-known role within Windows Server - will be remaining.

This announcement came abruptly and was something of a shock to many people. Hyper-V server was the primary test/dev hypervisor for many organizations, not to mention it was great for licensing in VDI scenarios. News of its untimely demise has created some angst in the community. Many IT Pros see this move by Microsoft as a way to takeaway a great free tool and use the situation to start pushing Azure Stack HCI, which many organizations are not ready to adopt at this time.

The good news is that Hyper-V Server 2019 is going to continue to be supported until its extended support lifecycle runs out in 2029. This means that many organizations will have plenty of time to migrate to an alternative.

We talk Hybrid Cloud Management via Azure Arc with Thomas Maurer from the Azure Advocacy team at Microsoft! This podcast with Ben Armstrong from Microsoft is part two of our interview with him. In the first podcast with Ben we discussed all things Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) running on Azure Stack HCI. Those that are familiar with Ben though know that he’s often closely associated with the development of Hyper-V, and we figured we’d be doing our listeners a disservice by not asking Ben some questions about what’s new in Hyper-V! We talk about some of the new features that Ben feels are most impactful and useful for IT Pros. More importantly, Andy and Ben spend some time talking about the recent Microsoft decision to discontinue future releases of the free Hyper-V Server SKU of Windows Server. For those not aware, Hyper-V Server is/was a free version of Windows Server that contained only the roles and features needed to run virtual machines. It came with no licensing and was often used to run open-source workloads on top of Hyper-V. Ben gives us the behind-the-scenes info that led to the decision to stop releasing future versions of this free SKU.

Andy Syrewicze and guest co-host Mike Bender talk about Microsoft’s new Windows Server Hybrid Administrator certification. This certification combines on-prem Windows Server technologies with key cloud technologies to help system administrators become well-rounded when it comes to hybrid cloud.
