The Watkins Award has established itself as the nation’s premier award for African American male high school seniors who represent the highest achievement in academics and athletics. The Award is emblematic of an extraordinary athlete, a bonafide scholar, and a person who has been recognized by prominent people in his community as a leader, volunteer, and community advocate.

Guest, Watkins Award Honoree Savon Huggins. He was a 5 Star running back in high school who went on to be honored and graduate as a scholar-athlete at Rutgers University. Savon also played for the University of Northern Iowa and received a Master’s Degree. He is now Coach Huggins at Boston University.

Darnell Dinkins is from Pittsburg Pennsylvania. He is a former NFL player who played tight end. He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh. In the NFL, Dinkins played for the New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and New Orleans Saints where he was part of the team that won Super Bowl XLIV in Miami, Florida on February 7th, 2010.

Richard Wilson came to BYU ranked the No. 4 tight end prospect in the nation by ESPN.com. He played in 44 games and started in eight while lettering all four years as a Cougar. He totaled 24 catches for 308 yards and two touchdowns during his career. Wilson caught a career-long 35-yard pass that contributed to a season-high 66 yards on three receptions against San Jose State as a sophomore. He helped BYU to a No. 14 national ranking in total offense in 2013.
