As a college student and son of parents in the medical professions, Luka saw what the COVID-19 situation did to the front-line providers of care in terms of getting supplies on time, of good quality and definitely at a fair price. He built a supply chain marketplace to help facilitate this and it caught on. Now he and his team have built Grapevine into a marketplace not just for times of crisis, but in day to day operations of medical facilities. We discussed the genesis of Grapevine, where it is now and the service it provides in the marketplace. We're excited we got to talk with Luka and hear his story so we could share it with our audience.

Tammy Nevin was a busy realtor and mom who, like many during the Covid years, found herself stuck at home and needing to find options for caring for herself without access to the usual places. But options like red light were either expensive or cheaply made so she set out to build her own version of products that found the happy medium and Happy Sol Wellness was born.
Tammy talks about how red light has helped her skin, sleep, helped her husband and his bad back and she has success stories from customers to share as well. Her journey is one of health, entrepreneurship and determination and we think everyone will enjoy this episode.

We always enjoy the opportunity to talk business and health and this episode was full of both topics! Sylvia Tabor healed herself from some significant health issues (physical and mental) using the carnviore diet and couldn't find a portable, shelf stable food to help her continue her journey. Using her mechanical engineering background, personal drive, and perseverance, she created what is now her brand Carnivore Snax. From growing a company, moving across the country, nearly losing it all, Sylvia has maintained her health through it all. She now can share her knowledge and passion with her teams and continue to grow her company. This is a really great story for our audience. (and we hear Joe Rogan likes them too!!)

When Andy Schoonover found out that a basic procedure for his daughter could've cost him many thousands less than what he ultimately paid, he knew there was a better way to pay for healthcare and he setup a business to do just that. Crowdhealth was born from this frustration and the desire to help others lower their healthcare costs and streamline the process. This is a community-based system where members pay a monthly fee and then voluntarily contribute more to help others knowing that when their day of need arrives, the community will help them too. He goes into great detail in this episode about the mechanics of the system, pricing, future plans, etc. If the idea of working outside the healthcare system is appealing to you, this edition of the show is one you'll enjoy.

We spent time with Dr. Anson today. Her varied background and journey to her coaching and training business makes her an important part of the conversation we're looking for on our show. Dr. Anson stressed the importance of buy-in by front-line managers and also how we need to not use generational descriptions to gauge how an employee will act once hired. She really had some great perspectives and new studies (linked below). If you're in HR, ownership or other leadership capacity in your business, this episode is very much worth your time.

ZIZE Bikes was founded by our guest Joan Denizot over 20 years ago. She was overweight and got the horrible, vague advice that so many get, move your body and eat less! She knew she liked riding a bike but the available bikes out there definitely do not work for larger people. So she had her own made and it became her business. Joan has also spent this time working with companies to make sure they understand the struggles large people have and how to make simple but impactful changes. She's now authored a book and started another business! Joan is really passionate and well spoken about all topics of inclusion with respect to the obese population.

This could be from someone being a people pleaser, a people controller, or some combination. With Kelly, we go over her approaches, some ideas we can all incorporate, and she told us about her book which is called Heal to Lead. Enjoy this interview!!

Now Christopher helps others with chronic illness, pain, often things his clients haven't been able to solve with conventional Western medicine. He also has expanded to health optimization for those just needing to fine tune their health. All of what he does he learned on his own or from just a few great thinkers and mentors. Alex Rivera was born in El Salvador and to say things were different there than here in America is an understatement. His normal days required walking for miles to get water, food, etc. They grew their own vegetables, caught fish, made everything in their home. When he came to the U.S.A at age 16, all of that changed. Working in restaurants he found access to food way to easy. It tasted great, it was affordable, abundant and he didn't have to move his body much to get it. That's a typical story of our way of life and it impacted Alex's health negatively. Years later he found himself at 230 pounds, scary bloodwork and a young daughter he wanted to see grow up. Alex made some changes and has sustained them and never plans to stop. Hear his story in this first of what we hope are many episodes dedicated to successful outcomes of people making intentional choices with their lives and health.

Dr. Stephen Hussey was 34 and by most measures quite healthy when he suffered a massive heart attack. His story is quite eye-opening. He's a Type 1 Diabetic and talks about how that pre-disposes him to cardiovascular issues. Common health markers like lipids and A1C are all fine and good, but they don't tell the entire health story. Dr. Hussey has written an amazing book called Understanding The Heart that unravels concepts that Western medicine often, sadly, gets wrong. Dr. Hussey has an online health consulting practice called Resource Your Health as well as his chiropractic practice in Roanoke, VA. On this episode we talked about hyper realities, what is real health vs what your insurance company wants you to consider health, stress management and the different kinds of stresses and a ton more. We're so thankful that folks like Dr. Hussey are out there helping people heal and find their way to health and wellness.

Sometimes there are conversations that just completely change your mindset, this is one of them. Joe Rare of Level 9 Virtual is a serial entrepreneur who has figured out how to optimize his (and your) time but outsourcing tasks that don't allow you to focus on growing your business or enjoying your life. Many entrepreneurs start a business from something they are passionate about or really enjoy doing, then it becomes all consuming and inescapable. Level 9 Virtual can help identify tasks that are stealing your time, systematize them, then assign them to virtual assistants. Each time this happens you (the owner) are gaining back your time to focus on something more critical to your operation or spending time not working at all!! Joe's stories of his past successes and failures are enlightening and educational because they are real examples of how he honed this process into the thriving business that it is today.

Kirk completed SEAL training at 19 years-old and served as a SEAL during the first Gulf War. He
left the SEAL community in 1994 to pursue a college education. He then re-entered the US Navy
to attend the military’s medical school in Bethesda, Maryland and was commissioned as an
Officer in the Navy in 2000. After completing medical school, internship, and residency, Kirk
returned to the SEAL teams as the physician for the West Coast SEAL teams. The realities of 8
years of nearly continuous combat were beginning to weigh on the SEALs and Kirk was tasked
with optimizing and maintaining the performance of the most performant men in the world. It
was during this period that he struck by the disparity between “health care” and “health”.
Kirk was forced to learn enormous amounts of alternative medical literature, synthesize and
apply it in a way that was both effective and practical for the SEALs to maintain peak
performance 365 days a year. Performance and fitness are not the same thing.
Due to the limitation and restrictions of medical interventions allowable for men working in
austere environments (with little medical support), Kirk had to devise plans that relied very
little on pharmaceuticals, supplements, or gadgets. He was able to do this with unprecedented
success, so much so that he is still the go-to medical human performance expert for not only
Navy SEALs, but all military special forces (SOCOM). He parlayed this experience into private
consulting—to include professional sports teams, international corporations, entrepreneurs
and executives.
Doctor Parsley has worked with thousands of elite performers and has had tremendous success
in optimizing the physical, cognitive, and emotional performance with these individuals. His
philosophy is simple: we inhabit a 100,000+ year-old model of the human body and we perform
best by approximating the life we evolved to live and aiming towards the health metrics of our
25-year-old selves. In Kirk’s experience, 80% of health comes from focusing on Sleep, Nutrition,
Exercise, and Stress mitigation—with a STRONG emphasis on Sleep.
Kirk is certified in Hyperbaric Medicine, Anti-Aging Medicine, Hormone Replacement Therapy,
and is currently working towards a national certification in Psychedelic Medicine Therapies. He
runs his practice and supplement business out of Austin, Tx. He is an avid outdoorsman and
fitness fanatic. When he’s not working or working out, he can usually be found on lake Travis on
some sort of watercraft.

Dr. Shah shared some time with us today to go over his online approach to allergy treatment.  Based out of Colorado, Dr. Shah takes care of patients around the country through direct care, all virtual and non-invasive.  After an initial consult, a package is mailed to your house for testing, treatment is prescribed, and the sublingual treatment shows up when needed.  The treatment trains the body to not overreact to allergens over time (up to 3yrs) and when done the allergy reactions should be gone.  This method of treatment can really help folks who thought they were destined to be lifetime sufferers or having to take neverending doses of OTC meds.  1 in 4 of us have allergies so please share this with someone you know who could use a different treatment and stop their suffering!!

Doran also educates young women on taking care of themselves from a young age through ministry, nutrition education and more so if and when they choose to become mothers, they are well prepared. This was really a great conversation with someone passionate about the work she does.

Rick Till joined us today for some discussion about how a career HR professional has seen wellness programs work (or not work).  Rick has over 35yrs of experience being an HR leader at fairly large companies and has worked through a variety of programs.  A few things Rick emphasized were that companies really do CARE about their employees.  This is overlooked way too often as corporations are demonized as capitalist, soulless entities.  Corporations are nothing without their employees.  We talked about some carrot and stick approaches and a how offering different insurance plans often really doesn't move the needle in terms of lowering overall costs.  Sadly, it all comes back to costs, insurance companies, and individual willingness to participate.  We'd love to hear from you, our listeners, about what you've tried or not tried at your business and some success or horror stories!!

Homesteading is more and more popular and given the uncertainty in today's world, it might be something to consider.  So today we were joined by Emily Tomko who, with no background in agriculture or even gardening, has found her way to feeding her family from what they grow.  She even shared how a recent meal was almost entirely made from things grown on their homestead.  They milk goats, raise crops, chickens, cattle, and have found a never-ending community of support.  In this episode we covered how to allocate time, roadblocks you may encounter, getting started, involving the kids, etc.  We really packed alot into this episode and it is a great listen and inspiring to know that you can do it too!!!

Did you know raw milk is really tough to get in most of the country? Did you know how great it is for human consumption yet it is basically not allowed? These are things that our guests Luke and Tommy are trying to make sure more people know about. They're doing it in a creative way by using a fun tagline and great marketing. While doing that, they're living what they're talking about. Both are working on a farm in Southern VA, and working toward having their own place someday. Hear us dive into some talks about how they got started, how their brand came together, what their goals are and how a consumer might be able to find a raw milk source.

Today's guest, Mike Bruce, really put healing the body with food into perspective for us. Right away, after explaining how his own journey of discovering true satiety at age 26 for the first time, you can hear in Mike's voice a passion for discovery and humbleness about allowing food to put the body where it wants to be. From eating cake-top sandwiches as a kid to being told by an Australian on vacation about 'Paleo mate' to eating raw turkey breast, Mike's journey is fascinating.

We talked about his coaching approach, how he got connected with the Dr. he works with, and what he's into now. He also experimenting with fermenting liver and making pemmican! For a copy of his pemmican recipe and process, visit: https://www.lifestartswithfood.com/pemmican/

Today's episode was a chance for hosts David and Josh to share some updates on what they've been doing personally and professionally related to some past podcast topics. Also, in early podcasts we both talked about some of these things and promised to do regular updates, then never did!!! So we just decided to devote one episode to catching up and it turned out to be alot of fun. Hear David talk about his expanding homestead operation, involving his young kids in raising animals, his wife digging into medicinal herbs and still managing the printing and marketing business at Home - Signet Marketing (signetmktg.com)

Josh discussed how music is mental therapy for him and how he's experimenting with his ketogenic diet based on the book from past guest Robert Sikes of KetoSavage. Also Josh talked about the wellness program at his business and the eye-opening outcome of the step challenge they recently had. Their coach and past podcast guest Stacie Haaga has setup a robust wellness program and this was one of the fun outcomes.

Paul came on the show today to answer some questions Dave and Josh had about personal financial management and team financial health.  But.... we headed off in a new direction, with Paul's guidance, to discuss where he thinks all such discussions have to start which is the laws of Gratitude.  Paul stumbled onto a document someone left in his truck and it really impacted him greatly.  So he shared this with us today and we just really think our listeners will enjoy this conversation.  The hosts were left nearly speechless (not good for people who are supposed to interview others!!) and just let Paul go and teach us.  Please enjoy this lesson and let us know your thoughts or leave a review on your favorite podcast app!!!!

We've been wanting to talk about mental health on this podcast and today's guest really opened up that world for us.  Joan Monahan has over 2 decades of experience in counseling and her approach using humor and a very laid back style are great for her clients.  She was able to discuss clues managers can look for, how to start dialogue, and some common issues she has seen in her practice and how things have changed over time.  Joan was a superb guest and has so much insight into the often un-discussed world of mental health and how she's working to normalize those discussions.

Dave and Josh walk through the intricate ways in which to approach a health conversation with your team at work.  This isn't easy and can be delicate so it must be handled with care.  You can risk turning someone completely off if you don't do it right and you also risk allowing someone to slip deeper into sickness if you say nothing.  We'd love some feedback on tips and techniques once you hear this episode!!!
