Hosted by Onshapers Michael Lafleche, aka “The Professor” and Richard Doyle, “The User Group Guy”, you’ll hear from industry insiders, community members, and Onshape experts who will share their experiences and provide insider tips that will add to your knowledge of design and engineering.
In this episode Michael and Richard highlight a new format for the show along with some cool Tech Tips and some news about Onshape User Groups.
First up, Richard demonstrates how to use PEM fasteners in sheet metal designs. He shows us how easy it is to use these popular standard content parts. For more information, read the article, ”Tech Tip: How to Use PEM Fasteners Efficiently with Sheet Metal Designs”.
Next in the show: What grinds your gears?
If it’s creating gears from scratch in Onshape, we’ve got the solution for you. Michael displays how to use the Spur Gear Custom Feature, which allows users to create mathematically correct spur gears with an optional center bore hole and keyway. Designers are able to save time by bypassing sketching gears from an empty screen.
Following that demonstration, Richard checks out a cool Onshape model! But what is it? You have to watch the episode to find out.

In this episode Richard and Michael welcome Product Marketing Senior Director Loretta Faluade and Dan Kane, Pre-sales Technical Service Manager to talk about the things we saw and the things we learned at this year’s event. In our first episode of 2023, Richard and Mike talk with Ben Eadie about his work using Onshape to deliver a robotic "Wilson" for Tom Hanks!
The robot was used during a Cleveland Guardians baseball game as Tom threw out the first pitch.
You'll also hear about Ben's work on various movie projects including Star Trek Beyond and Ghostbusters. Richard was also pleased to hear his thoughts on networking and how it can help advance your career.

This week we chat with John McEleney, Onshape co-founder and former CEO of SOLIDWORKS about what the future holds in the design world, plus we meet with Onshape Ambassadors Bryan Lagrange and Sam Holland about their businesses and Onshape experience. And to start the show off, we interview Greg Paulsen of Xometry, a digital contract manufacturer who recently added a DFM and price quoting tool directly inside Onshape.
