"I became resilient because I realized that there was no stability. It's an illusion."
Today we're joined by Paul Fioravanti, CEO of Qorval Partners. When I sat down with Paul today, I could tell he knew his shit. I got the feeling like he's been working at his craft for a long time and has a deep well of knowledge and life experiences to pull from, and I was curious to know if his demeanor was something he was born with or developed over time.In the first half of the podcast, we cover some of the basics of what Paul does at Qorval. In the second half, we dive into more personal topics on how his view of life, working, opportunities, etc. has changed from the time he was in his 30's until now.Paul has been turning businesses around for over a decade. He will step in as an Interim CEO to solve issues around financials, operations, or sales/marketing.If you're in your mid 20's to mid 30's and you have a drive to do something great with your life and career, but you struggle with the feeling like you need to be constantly doing something to move closer to your goals... don't miss this one.I had a blast doing this and I hope you enjoy listening.Check out his website at https://qorval.com/Connect with him on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulfioravanti1

Self-censorship has been on my mind lately. We see the censoring apparatus at work more obviously than ever as some of our favorite podcasters, YouTube channels, Instagram accounts have episodes or videos pulled down, fact check icons show up below their posts, etc. We've seen the censorship around the last election, and with Robert F. Kennedy having multiple episodes of podcasts pulled down just by being a guest, it's very obvious to everyone that your words are being watched in some way.I worry about the impact that has on peoples' willingness to speak their mind and say what they think is true. I know it has an impact on me, not just on my public facing work, but also when I write anything, text, capture my thoughts in a Google Doc or an Evernote. It's not that someone's there over your shoulder looking at every word, it's just that it's all being compiled, and then suddenly and seemingly arbitrarily, you're receiving a notification that your episode or post has been pulled. It starts to build a self-imposed straight jacket on your mind over time, and it's just frustrating. Thanks for checking out the new acoustic EP. My friends are stupid, and this is proof.
I recently asked them for AI artwork prompts that I would put into Neural Frames, a pretty cool AI artwork generator that takes your ideas and turns them into a series of AI-generated artwork frames that blend together to create a constantly-evolving video.
Check it out here: https://www.neuralframes.com/
I got prompts from friends, family, and colleagues to see what kind of artwork this would generate, and we got the gambit:
George bush investigating 7-11
Jimmy Garrapolo as an underground sewer person
A nice Halloween-themed kitchen

Self doubt, a lack of belief in myself, and ultimately giving up on goals have been a few common themes in my life until the past year.
I started working with Gus Romero at the tail end of 2022 and the lessons he's taught me have been invaluable to pointing my life in the direction I want it to go in.
In all honesty, I thought "mindset coaching" was BS before working with Gus.
A lot of what we cover stems from Bob Proctor's Thinking Into Results program, which is based on the the concepts in Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich.
It's practical advice that's been incredibly valuable to me, and I want to share part of that with you.

I like hearing about conspiracy theories. There's a certain aspect of truth in a lot of them that you won't really find in a conventional way of thinking or through conventional sources.Yes, you have to sift through a lot of bullshit, people telling you that Biden is going to be arrested TOMORROW AT 1047AM!! WE DID IT PATRIOTS!!But the aspect I truly enjoy is that interesting questions get raised about major events that are happening. Things that make you say "huh..."That's why I love talking to Brett. I always leave each conversation convinced I'm right about one thing but having new questions about 10 other things. We dive into:- Why most relationships fail through current dating apps- Why were certain houses in Hawaii untouched during the fire?- What's going on with depopulation?- Is capitalism bad or is it captured?- Why do politicians hate TikTok?Join us on PodInbox and be a part of the show!📞 Leave us a voicemail on PodInbox: https://podinbox.com/cheineon📧 Send us an email: https://www.cheineon.com/contact/🗣️ Sponsor the show: https://www.cheineon.com/contact/

Are you waiting for things to be perfect before you start?
The perfect time, perfect situation, perfect plan... the perfect "something" before you can "really give it your all".
I know the feeling, and I'm actively working on overcoming it now.
Here are some thoughts on how seeking perfection can be a hinderance, how it can be used to avoid working on something important to you, avoid potential criticism or rejection, and the sneaky ways it shows up.
Perfection's arguments are convincing, too.
We also talk through a few ways you can start to get past this roadblock.
We'd love you to join our community and participate in the show. Check out our PodInbox page to leave a voice recording or message, and we'll play it on the show.

The War of Art by Stephen Pressfield is a book I consistently come back to read/listen to each year.
There's a chapter called "Resistance and Isolation: Parts I and II".
Hearing them again registered differently this time since a few things in my life have changed. I've been hard charging on a few separate fronts, moving several projects forward toward their finish lines, and a few lines got me thinking about this desire to get approval.
The "need" for approval can strike before you start a project, in the middle, or before the finish line.
My friend calls it "looking for a cosigner".
Let's talk through what this means, what the downsides are, the mental traps you'll find yourself in, and some ways you can use goal setting to overcome this problem.

Writing is definitely a form of therapy. When I stay consistent with writing, I see huge benefits:
It helps me get the thoughts out of my head and onto the page. This puts some distance between my thoughts and my self-image, which ultimately helps process these thoughts, not run away from them or let them control me.
Also, there's a bit about a piss bath in here...

I quit my job a few years ago to start my own business, and lately, a few friends have reached out to me about doing this or some version of it.
Ultimately that business failed. But I learned about myself, what my motivations are, how the allure of "freedom" can actually be a trap.
I'm also seeing some of the ways my new 9-5 job can provide stability as I pursue this podcast, music, and other goals I have.
If you're thinking about quitting your job to start your own business, give this a listen... it might help steer you in the right direction, or at least avoid the same mistakes I made.

Chris went to a mastermind last week in Naples, FL and came back with a new perspective on his business. Matt is finally persuaded to relaunch the Pillars of Virtue podcast.
We're now sponsored by Rock Creek Coffee Roasters based in Billings, MT. I met one of the owners, Joel Gargaro, at the mastermind and had some of this coffee for a few days. It's the only coffee I've had in the past week since the mastermind. They roast it within a day of shipping it out, so it's super fresh.

If you're a bad tipper, you need to hear this message. If you love Sketchers, this one may not be for you.
Chris here: As a new business owner, I struggle with staying determined to achieve the goals I set. It usually comes from hitting some sort of obstacle and not having a plan to fall back on.
Today we interview my brother, Greg, who's always been good at staying focused on the things that matter and getting things done. Matt and I pick his brain on his overall approach, and if you're a new business owner as well, I think you'll glean some valuable insights from this episode.
We also explore the existential state of being for people who wear Sketchers. Unless you wear them for the "non-slip" traction at a restaurant job, the outlook isn't too good for you.

We've never heard crypto and blockchain discussed from this philosophical perspective before, and this was one of the most fascinating conversations we've had on the show.
Matt and Chris had a chance to ask Brett Palladino and Neil Maxwell where they see crypto heading in the near future, and the answers aren't what you expect... at least, not how you expect them. We dive deep into the philosophical underpinnings of blockchain technology, how the world is/has moved from the old system to the current, and things to look out for as we move into the future.

When you constantly compare yourself to others, what does that get you? And when was the last time you compared yourself... to yourself?
In this episode, we do just that. Let's take stock of where we were a year ago, where we are now, and what we want to do for the new year.
If you follow this same practice, you may be surprised to find you've accomplished more than you thought. We're curious to know if the comparison to your past self makes your path forward a little clearer.
Give it a shot, and let us know what you've discovered about yourself at www.podinbox.com/cheineon. We may just discuss it live on the show.
Thank you all for joining us on this new venture in 2021, and we look forward to hanging with you in '22.

Darcy's new book, Red Cape Rescue, is the driving force behind our conversation today.
Darcy is an author and owner of Red Cape Revolution where she coaches business leaders across the country. After reading her book, Chris had a ton of questions that he wanted to clarify for the listeners.
We cover a wide variety of topics, from the right way to leave your job and start something new, overcoming the "battle of the brain", some trends Darcy is seeing with the Great Resignation, and how she got into the coaching business.
I recommend this episode for both team leaders trying to get more from their team, as well as employees who are either thinking about leaving their current job for another or starting their own business.

Matt had a little case of the giggles, and Chris bought a case of Magic Mind.
Tonight we discuss some of the ways that stress can prevent you from getting your work done, ways we try to mitigate that, and a special type of coffee from Indonesia called Kopi Luwak.
Matt gives Chris the first Meatbodies record, and we talk about a new podcast we're planning to launch called Records and Things. Listen in to learn more.

What a cool interview. Rob joins Chris to discuss some of the different things he’s learned from hosting his podcast about podcasting called Inside the Podcast Studio.
If you are a new podcaster, or at least relatively new, this episode has some great insights about what is actually important as a podcaster, as well as avoiding the common vanity traps that you see many people fall into: worrying about downloads instead of the substance of those downloads, who downloaded them, and what kind of interaction that creates with your audience… or what kind of business opportunities that leads to.

On today's episode, Chris sits down with his dad, Rick Heine, to talk about what it takes to start a business.
Rick is a long time entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience starting, running, and selling businesses in a variety of industries. After the sale of Flightdocs to ATP in July 2020, Rick went on to purchase Wheelhouse Technologies and Vessel Vanguard to provide maintenance tracking software to the marine industry. They recently revamped one of the critical safety kits, Seakits, and those can be purchased at www.seakits.com.
Rick discusses his thoughts on "failure", some of the questions you need to ask yourself before starting a business, and the possible dangers of borrowing money from or starting a business with friends or relatives.
Since starting Flightdocs and moving on to Wheelhouse and Vessel Vanguard, the primary focus has been to revolutionize the industry and build a business through that lens. Before that, his first business started out by seeing an opportunity and running with it, primarily focusing on excellent customer service and an excellent product.
We also dive into the importance of cash flow. Check it out towards the end of the episode, it's insightful.

On today's episode, Matt and Chris discuss "On the Shortness of Life" by Seneca. Here are a few quotes from the letter that we discuss:
"It is not that we have a short space of time, but that we waste much of it. Life is long enough, and it has been given in sufficiently generous measure to allow the accomplishment of the very greatest things if the whole of it is well invested..."
"'The part of life we really live is small.' For all the rest of existence is not life, but merely time."
"Can anything be sillier than the point of view of certain people - I mean those who boast of their foresight? They keep themselves very busily engaged in order that they may be able to live better; they spend life in making ready to live!
They form their purposes with a view to the distant future; yet postponement is the greatest waste of life..."
"'Why are you idle? Unless you seize the day, it flees.' Even though you seize it, it will still flee..."
"...I could prove that busy men find life very short."
"Life is divided into three periods - that which has been, that which is, that which will be."
And Chris's two favorites from this:
"By other men's labours we are led to the sight of things most beautiful that have been wrested from darkness and brought into light; from no age are we shut out, we have access to all ages, and if it is our wish, by greatness of mind, to pass beyond the narrow limits of human weakness, there is a great stretch of time through which we may roam."
"No one of these will force you to die, but all will teach you how to die; no one of these will wear out your years, but each will add his own years to yours..."

In addition to stumbling through the first episode, we talk about leaving your job, working from home, and what it was like during the outbreak of the pandemic. We also talk about some of the main points from Turning Pro: How Resistance can introduce self doubt and imposter syndrome, how it's a force that's external from ourselves, and that almost every self help book includes points you already knew.
