We may think that success is something that is meant for others and sometimes adds a level of fear that we walk timidly around instead of embracing. Most of the time, when we are afraid of something, we steer away from it; so if we fear success or believe it cannot be for us, then we will do all we can to avoid it. It is easier to celebrate others when they are achieving instead of believing that we can succeed as well. But how is this a form of disobedience? Children do not walk in fear. They are very trusting and certain in their little movements and actions. In fact, we were not fearful as children, but as we got older, we developed a fear in us of people, places, or things that either came about because of an event that took place with us or something we seen or heard was done to someone else. As survivors of Domestic Violence, sharing our stories is one of our main agendas. Every time we share, it is freeing to realize that God saved us and brought us out of a situation that was meant to destroy us. To know that our stories can set others free, and let them know that there is life after domestic violence, gives us new life each time. Though our stories are different, we share a common theme; we made it. To celebrate those that survived, and honor those who lost their lives to the horror that is domestic violence, it is my honor to replay the most listened to episode from all seasons so far. Abuse can leave scars that are hidden deep within our emotions. Those are the scars that cannot be seen but are definately felt. If we experience trauma at a younge age then it is important that help is sought out to address those emotional scars. If the trauma has not been addressed then it can be carried well into adulthood. Add insecurities, low self-esteem, and the closest adult to you in your life not believing you and that spells a recipe for an emotional breakdown. So many situations can come upon us in life to where the situation can sometimes get more attention than getting to, and seeing, our healing. We get stuck in a space of negativity and we may feel that giving up is our only option. We cannot see any other Way except the Way we are in. That Way can be depression, suicidal thoughts, pain, agony, and a mix of other negative emotions and feelings until we cannot see our way to the other side where peace, tranquility, forgivness, and compassion lives. Through the pain, we have to see our future and how we want that future to be. We have to seek God and trust that He has us in His Hands. Sexual abuse, in any form, is a clear violation of a persons mind, body, and spirit. It adds a level of hurt, shame, and mistrust that can turn into self-blame and hatred. There is a feeling of lowness that accompanies any type of abuse. This is further exasperated if the perpetrator is someone of a particular status. A singer, politician, actor, comedian, or even in the realm of a teacher or pastor that adds another layer of shame and feeling like you are climbing a never-ending mountain that you cannot hide from. We go along from day to day not really paying attention to the functions of our limbs or organs. We walk, talk, hear, taste, smell, our heart beats, we are able to see, we can think and process, etc but we act as if our functions are automatic and disregard the fact that our body can shift to a state of imbalance if only one function is off. Think about what would happen if we begin to experience unexplainable internal changes in our bodies that eventually intensifies until... Join Latonia as she has a conversation with Min. Unfornately we live in a society that is primarily based on things instead of the consideration of people. What we have and what we do not have. Who we know and who we don't know. Our jobs, neighborhoods, even where we send our children to school can factor in our acceptablity with others. We try to fit in, and be socially accepted, but either through bad choices or circumstances beyond our control, the wall makes it impossible to get over if you do not fit the mold. This week, Latonia gives commentary on an issue that she is involved with right now and enlightens us on the biases and stigmas of a artifical standard that can cause deep emotional trauma; The Trauma of Not Being Good Enough!

Rape, Abuse, Domestic Violence, Child Sexual Abuse, Sickness, Grief, Depression, Anxiety, Guilt, Shame, Anger....we can go on and on naming situation and/or feelings that can cause us trauma and put us in a state of loneliness and defeat. What happens when we make these feelings and emotions apart of our lives by not dealing with them but going through the motions of acceptance because we feel like there is nothing we can do. This week, Latonia does commentary on how we can normalize trauma by just going along and letting the feelings consume us instead of finding healthy ways to address those issues that distress us. Do not bring the accepted baggage from 2021 into 2022. Stop making trauma normal and see it for what it is so you can move forward in life!

Trauma can rear its head in many forms; regression, supression, anger, depression, hostility, remorse, and self-loathing are a few. Our sense of self can be lost in the muddleness and consumption of a predator that fills up more of our lives than we are willing to give. The predator that clings to us like the leach they are and refuses to let go. The snake that slithers into our lives, robs us of our essence, and tries to drag the life we have left out of us. They take up our mental space and our thoughts are not our thoughts anymore but the predator raids our physical and emotional space as well and is content with merely being around us as a form of keeping control. Join Latonia in a conversation with her guest Lashaunda Jamerson as she shares how her love for Christ restored her and broke the 25 year hold her predator had over her.

The trauma that we experience can cause us deep interior pain. That pain can remain bottled up inside or be displayed outwardly in unhealthy ways. Self-Mutilation is the mutilation of oneself, especially as a symptom of mental or emotional disturbance or to cause physical harm to oneself from some sort of trauma. Latonia's guest for December's First Sunday Conversation lived with a terrible secret that she learned to hide for many years. Please listen in as Patricia E. Wiggins-Plummer discusses a time in her life that she was in a very low place, but through her belief in God and having a strong prayer life, she made it and her secret became her testimony. There have been many prolific events that have taken place over the years with sexual trauma and domestic violence; even to the point of domestic violence being coined that term. The legalaties of the system have not always been favorable toward a woman that was in the midst of a traumatic event. Over the years, there have been successes and failures in the areas of crimes against women, and the lacking of after care, leaving her feeling lost and sometimes confused about how she should feel and what to do to get back on track. Finding a light after sexual trauma can be very difficult if a woman has to do it alone. Latonia's guest Susan Omilian is a trailblazer in the area of helping women reclaiming their lives after abuse from start to finish and aftercare. Listen in on the conversation as they discuss Susan's long-standing career, the work she has done as an attorney advocating for women, and the hundreds of women she has helped to Thrive as they discuss, "A Legal Perspective!"

As children, we are taught to listen to our parents/adults, do well in school, and to be good boys and girls. The parent(s) job is to love and protect; to provide and to be that comfortable place when we fall. The lessons that we learn as a child are supposed to equip us for the future but what if those lessons were learned because we had to grow up fast? Learned because the role of the parent became our role? What if we learned that we had to sacrifice ourselves for the well-being of others when we should have been outside playing with our friends? Season 2 Episode 24 guest Aeriel White discusses with Latonia what it felt like having reversed roles as a very young girl and how her early beginnings of abuse, neglect, and being failed by multiple systems equipped her for what she is doing in her life today. There are some instances where the situational trauma is just as bad, or worse, than the event trauma. These are instances that would not have happened if we were not in a particular place, or with certain people/person, that lead to drastic circumstances that causes both situational and event trauma. As we think back over the emotional and sexual stressors that have happened in our lives, we may even look at the situation and see that if our choices were different then our outcome may have also been different as well. This week Latonia, and her guest social media maven and rising TicToc star Ashley Michelle, discuss her traumatic event-which is a first for this podcast-and how her life has been after her traumatic event and how she uses her platforms to raise awareness.

There are severe traumas that we are mentally protected from by a blockage of certain memories that would otherwise cause more harm than good. These moments in time, for a period, are better forgotten than remembered. One medical term for this phenomenon is called Traumatic Dissociative Amnesia (TDA) meaning the brain has a protective mechanism and pockets some stressful memories to preserve the mental state of a person. Sometimes these memories are hidden for a short term, but 87 percent of patients that remembered their traumatic event experienced TDA for decades. A medical diagnosis is one way to explain this occurance, but some believe that this is a way that God provides His Divine Protection by blocking the stressed memories of a person. November's First Sunday Conversations with A Woman's Soul Restored, Latonia and her guest Tamara Brown-Hodges, discuss recovered memories of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) and the adulthood feelings and emotions associated with supressed memories that have been remembered. Tamara will also be giving away a copy of her book.

There are incidents of abuse that, as a society, we have become desensitized to because we have become numb to some particular acts of violence. We have heard so many tramatic events until nothing shocks us anymore but there are instances of, not the act, but the role of the perpretrator that now gives us uncertain feelings about whom we can trust. Someone in political office, school system, and the church should be regarded more stearnly when they cross the line from protector to perpetrator; but that is not always the case. This week, Latonia and her guest Sandy Phillips Kirkham discuss such an instance of a perpertrator being someone in high regard and what happened to Sandy's life in the aftermath of her traumatic ordeal as they discuss, "Let Me Prey Upon You!"

When we go through a tramatic experience, a part of us suffers a death. That death emcompasses the loss of whatever we are mourning because of a rape, sexual abuse, molestation, etc. Grief has five (5) stages. The last stage is acceptance. Danger does not necessarily come from strangers anymore and we must teach them that 'bad touch' is bad no matter who it comes from. We should give them the much needed guidance and information to aid them in knowing that they are important and that their voices will be heard. This week, Latonia's guest Bracha Goetz is the author of 40 children books that speaks to the souls of children and she is empowering them through books.

A cry for help can be in the form of violation. This week, Latonia discusses the various conclusions that can happen in an adult that was molested as a child and not get the help they needed; including becoming a perpetrator.

It can be funny to think that something so innocent as a secret can cause so much hurt, sadness, and heartache; but then there is nothing innocent about some secrets. Keeping a secret, in some instances, can be detrimental not only when a situation is occuring but even much later as the realization of the secret is exposed. This week, Latonia discusses the magnitude of levels that secrets, in abusive situations, can cause and the trauma that is inflicted.

There is a sickness and maliciousness that occurs in an adult that molests, violates, or abuses a child in any manner, but there is a particular circumstance that can be occuring in a childs' life that causes them to be more subjectable to a prepetrator. What should be looked at as more protection for children in this situation can be used as an opportunity to harm them. This week Latonia address a very serious occurance, or reoccurance, that can be happening to a child that can leave them in the hands of the closest of vileness.

We have been led into thinking that, if enough time passes by, we will be ok.
Time can be our disfunctional friend and having that status means that we have to know how to deal with our friend. Dates can be triggers for memories. We can relate to a date of a traumatic event and it can put us in a bad place.
As that date approaches, we can experience mental and psychological changes. We may cannot explain it but we definately experience it.
This week, Latonia discusses dates in time and the effect it can have on us. The significance of the date that a traumatic event happens stays engrained in us. We do not have to suppress it but we do need to manage it!

This is the question that some may ask about the topic of Sexual Truma, Abuse, Domestic Violence, etc.. That maybe if we just do not talk about it, or because it is not in the forefront, that it is not that important.
There is a misconception that it is really not happening that much, and there are way more important issues that can be discussed, so why even spend time on a topic that is not that relevant to current events or may only affect a small population?
This week, Latonia address this very subject, why we have to keep the conversations going, and why these issues are so important to her.

When we go through a tramatic event as an adult, it can destroy your life as you knew it. Faces become the enemy, locations become bad memories, and our mind can put us in a place of unrest mentally and physically.
You are still you in the midst of it all; you just have to reconnect with HER. What can we do to reclaim our authenticity?
How can we move forward when we do not feel like moving at all?
What should we do first? Who can we trust?
This week, Latonia will discuss how to reclaim your Authentic Self.

As we overcome traumatic situations, either from our childhood or adult lives, we can feel a sense of normalcy by being able to live productive lives. We may have thoughts occasionally of what took place in our lives, but the past is tucked back in our minds and we are able to push through to be an active and present individual; or so we thought.
What if we had a reoccurance?
What if something happens to bring us smack back facing our past?
What should we do? What can we do?
This week, Latonia will tackle the subject of a resurfaced traumatic event and how the past can make a full circle in our lives.

When we are going through a current trial or situation, we can get so troubled until our Past resurfaces itself back into our Now; it can be that stronghold that pulls us back to a place of vulnerability.
As we navigate this thing called Life, it is important to remember that our day-to-day living can be difficult enough without resurging past memories or feeling stuck in current abuse. We do not have to muddle everything together either from our past or currently.

Safe Shelters are located in different areas across the country. They fight the battle of Domestic Violence on a deeper level. They are not only a safe place for victims and children to reside after leaving an abusive situation but they also teach and restore the victim emotionally. Safe Shelter advocates for victims on so many levels to the point where they are able to stand, and provide, for themselves.Listen in as Latonia interviews Doretha Rice, Program Director for Chatham County Safe Shelter-Center for Domestic Violence Services. Since 1979, SAFE Shelter has been Savannah's only shelter dedicated to all victims of intimate partner violence and their underage children.

When we go through sexual trauma, particularly domestic violence, the people we are trying to protect end up being the main people we hurt; our children. The children that we think are not listening, that they are sleeping, that we have covered them....that is not true. Their innocence is taken and they are forced to grow up way too soon. Making sure that we not only get aftercare but that the children do as well so that they can become well-adjusted and productive adults. They do not stay little, so our decisions must not be emotional but what is conducive to what best for them.

There comes a time, in between being victimized and encompassing your victory, when there is an uncertainty that can be confusing and have you questioning or even doubting yourself. The limbo of emotions that are felt right after making the decision not to be a Victim anymore can set up how you get to your Victory. The two words have the first four letters in common, but that is all. Just like these two words start off the same but end differently, it is how you end that makes a world of difference and not the commanality of what you may have gone through!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Throughout the month, advocates across the nation come together to end domestic violence. As advocates, we understand that this fight is a daily one to help victims become survivors and to protect lives, but in October, the focus is more intent, and many events and activities are planned many months in advance. My book, "A Window Without A View" is about a very dark time in my life living in an abusive marriage but also remembering the molestation that happened to me as a child. This book is more serious than, 'Issues of the Heart-Male; When His Issues Become Your Issues' because the occurances in were on a more mature level. The book is about living your life but not really seeing your situation.

Somewhere along the lines of an old wives tale about, "...words can never hurt me", we have found out that is a lie. Verbal abuse can cause just as much harm as physical abuse, but because words are seen as trivial and harmless, we do not take verbal abuse seriously. The tongue can be a vile little creature, and when the ones we love use words to hurt us, it cuts deeper than any physical scar can. Words are a double-edged sword; they can help or harm."Use your words to heal not hurt!" Latonia Hendry

When we correlate traumatic events that have happened to us, and compare it to issues that our partners may have, they fit together. Especially in intimate or parental relationships, issues of the males in our lives may seem like a heart issue, but it is a mind facet that connects their mental issue with our heart in a negative way. It is a heart issue for us because of how we were created as women. We have a yearning to be fixers, but at some point, we can become the recipient of the issue. "Live to tell your story. Do not become a statistic; do not be spoken of in the past tense!" Latonia Hendry

According to Psychology Today, as many as 70% of adults and 52% of children suffer from Depression as a result of recently being removed from an abusive situation. In a 7-10 year case study, those numbers increase by 9% in adults and 12% in adolescents up to age 19 and young people up to age 24. When we are experiencing abuse, or just getting out of a toxic relationship, we do not fully grasp the severity of what is or has happened because we have a self-mechanism to 'numb' ourselves to adapt and accept. As time goes by, and we realize fully what has taken place, the hurt and shame may bring on depression or even a deeper depression. The numbers are also higher because children do not tell sometimes until their teen years or even adulthood. Women sometimes feel that stigma of blame as well and do not come forward until years later. This is also true of children whom have grown up in abusive homes. There is hope for a better tomorrow not filled with disturbing thoughts and images that may cause our mental health to become imbalanced. We do not have to live a life suffocated by The Silent Weapon of Destruction."Your beauty may be covered in ashes, but ashes can be washed away!"

Traumatic experiences can produce negative thoughts, feelings, and emotions. You may feel trapped in a place of darkness that you feel there is no escape from. A feeling of drowning and hopelessness that has confined you to being stunted from any growth; or growing minimally. You do not have to live in the prison of your mind. Unlock the cell door and throw the key as far away from you as possible. Take control of your thoughts and live your life to the fullest. "The only thing holding you back is you. You were created for greater!"

This introductory podcast of A Woman's Soul Restored will focus on how repressed hurt can manifest in your life presently. Pain, that has not been addressed, has a way of showing up when you least expect it. Life is more than existing, but hurt and pain causes you to do just that; exist. Life is to be lived with purpose and joy, and not just going through repetitive motions just to get to the next day. Choosing to move beyond your past does not mean that you forget, but it does mean that you can use your past to achieve a wonderful future of acceptance and continuing to grow."The negative occurrences that may have happened in our past does not define us but refines us for a greater purpose!"
