The Tommy Sandhu Podcast

Hi, I’m Tommy!

Welcome to my podcast about all the things I love! Family, Food, Music, Films, Sport and all things inspirational! If you’re anything like me, then you’ll know that life can be tough! My theory is, you gotta laugh! Everyone talks about the need to “stay positive” but the only way to do that is to find the moments of fun and celebrate them to the max! So this podcast hopes to be a “happy distraction” for us to focus on and make ourselves feel better!

Thanks for subscribing and listening.

I first met Jaspreet Kaur as a spoken word poet at an event that I was hosting.

She’s great - smart, charming, engaging, funny and a positive force for change!

Her book “Brown Girl Like Me” came out last month and it’s an in depth breakdown of the perception, role (if any) and identity of Brown women (of South Asian heritage).

It’s an academically packed eye opener! It makes you realise so much about the way the media, the workplace, home life and community all play a part in shaping the goals, desires and mental well being of Brown women.

And in case you hadn’t noticed, I ain’t no Brown woman! But as a brother, husband and son … it showed me how I could do more to support equality, opportunity and develop a further sense of care towards my sisters, wife and friends!

Here is the brilliant (and fellow east Londoner) Jaspreet Kaur!

Signed to Sony Music India and with his Canadian soulful sound combined with South Indian flavor, he absolutely represents the multi-cultural musical movement that’s going on all over the world. If K-Pop can do it ... why cant that K stand for Kerala?

This guy is a true gem and not only that ... he’s single and can cook a mean chicken curry!

For anyone making music, trying to find “their sound” or their own style, this podcast is for you. Ajay is doing just that and even though he’s signed to a major label, he’s happy to admit he’s still working it all out!

An honest and open chat with a talented young man – here is Ajay Jameson.

Mike Fairclough is an author and Headteacher. But to call him that after the conversation you’re about to hear, would be somewhat of a cop-out! I thought we were going to talk about his “alternative” teaching approaches or even the fact that he is married to a Sikh Panjabi lady (I was gonna ask him if he knew any Panjabi MC songs!)

But the conversation instantly went deeper into spirituality, life, death, and seeing the “light” in people.

I know this guy has made headlines by being inspirational – but he’s also made me talk about things I’ve never done before and I can't help but think this is one of those podcasts that’ll make you take a step back from your own life and ask yourself what you’re really all about and what you really want from it all.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

King Richard is the brand new film out today starring Will Smith and two young talents who play the roles of Venus and Serena Williams (Demi Singleton & Saniyya Sidney).

I was invited to attend the virtual press conference for the film which centres around the father of these two tennis megastars!

The film is flippin awesome! It’s inspirational! And it got me thinking about what I’m like as a Dad and how hard (or not) you should push your kids!

So in this episode of the podcast I’m thinking and talking out loud about my role as a father while I play you some moments from the press conference.

Go see the film! You won’t regret it!

He was THE reason I got on stage to do comedy and although he shy’s away from praise, I took this moment to thank him but also talk about the British Asian / Black comedy circuit and what his ultimate line up would be.

This lovely, humble, gentle chef loves serving fine food which is beautifully presented. Check out his Instagram page, but I warn you, you’ll soon be heading for the fridge to see what you can rustle up!
