Father's Day, as celebrated in the United States, largely originated from the efforts of Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. Inspired by a Mother's Day sermon in 1909 and wanting to honor her own father, a Civil War veteran who raised six children as a single parent, Dodd campaigned for a similar observance for fathers. The first Father's Day celebration was held on June 19, 1910, in Spokane. I once heard it said that it isn't what you know, it's what you think you know that is not (or no longer) so. I (Alan) find that most of us think that because something was true 6 months ago it is still true today. I was talking to a guy and he was saying the reason that he has firearms is to protect himself from a tyrannical government. After he left, I thought to myself, would you even recognize an oppressive, authoritarian, government and what level of tyranny are you willing to put up with before you use these weapons? Is there a definite line or, as long as it is done slowly enough, there is no line to notice? I have questions but no answers. What say you? Where do you draw the line between good government and tyranny? Does it matter who is in charge of the government? Would the leader be able to change your mind about tyranny? I ask this because as I live my life I find that most people are ok with tyranny as long as it is the kind they support. So ask yourself, am I ok with an authoritarian government as long as I voted for the people there.
