Jeremy Evans who shares his inspiring survival story set in the remote backcountry of the Canadian Rockies with ZAK of the Canadian Podcast in this episode.
In August 2017, 32-year-old Jeremy Evans endured multiple ferocious attacks by a protective female grizzly bear while hunting in the Alberta wilderness. Jeremy’s injuries were massive, his scalp and face destroyed, an eye and his jaw dangling down. The tendons on one leg had been fully severed during the mauling.
His hands were damaged where he had physically fought the bear. It was more than a dozen kilometres to where he had parked his truck in darkness early that morning and absolutely no one was near. Thoughts of his wife and their eight-month-old daughter consumed Jeremy as he stumbled and crawled for hours back to his truck, before driving himself several kilometres to a backcountry lodge for help.
All the while, Jeremy thought of his young family and the upcoming sixth wedding anniversary that he feared he might never be able to celebrate.
Mauled carefully details what happened deep in an Alberta forest where few modern humans tread. Jeremy’s miraculous recovery and life lessons learned when so close to death show that human determination can defy the greatest of odds, and that setting small goals along the road to recovery can lead to remarkable achievements. Despite the traumatic stress the encounter produced,
Jeremy holds no animosity toward the bear and still enjoys spending time in the backcountry. To him the grizzly was doing what the best parents do: protect their young.

Tammy Peterson (nee’ Roberts) was born on June 3, 1965, in Canada. She met Jordan Peterson at the tender age of eight, the two grew up together in Alberta, Canada. Jordan would claim that it was a case of love at first sight, going so far as to tell his father about his intention to marry her when he was just 11 years old. Sure enough, the two were wed in 1989, and are still together to this day.
Before Tammy Peterson devoted her time to supporting her husband on tour and as an advisor, she worked professionally as a massage therapist. Tammy has also been an avid foster parent since she was 30, housing many children from orphanages in and around Canada.
Jeff Depatie served 15 years in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), starting in the airborne infantry, then being accepted into Canada’s elite special forces unit, Joint Task Force 2 (JTF2), as an assaulter and sniper.
After multiple deployments, Depatie left the military and formed the Special Forces Experience (SFE), a community made of a collective of individuals rooted in the belief that challenge and adversity can be a springboard for growth in all aspects of life.
His vision is to identify superior non-military men and bring them together to see if they collectively can solve some of the world’s biggest issues from the ground up.

Daniel Maté is an award-winning musical theatre songwriter, playwright, educator, and “mental chiropractor.” Maté received the Edward Kleban Prize for Most Promising Lyricist in American Musical Theatre, a Jonathan Larson Foundation Grant, and the ASCAP Foundation’s Cole Porter Award for Excellence in Music and Lyrics. At the root of it all, Jason Blaine was born to sing, write and entertain. His love for country music has taken him to the forefront of the Canadian music scene where he has remained for over a decade. With over 12 Top 10 singles in Canada including hits such as “Country Side” and “Friends of Mine”, he has also become a craftsmen of hits for other people including Chris Jansen, Parmalee, Petric and Madeline Merlo and others.
Originally from Pembroke, Ontario, Blaine moved to Nashville in the fall of 2006 with his wife Amy and their three-month-old baby girl. He burst onto the scene in a big way in 2007 with his first #1 hit single “Rock In My Boot” which led to multiple CCMA nominations and paved the way for a string of hit singles and major festival appearances across the country.

Sebastien Lavoie was a police officer with the RCMP for over 20 years. Born and raised in Quebec, Seb spent a few years in the Canadian Armed Forces, pre-9/11, before joining the national police force. Seb's career revolved around the Mounties' specialized and elite units: first as an in flight safety officer (air marshal) before moving on to be a full time member of the BC Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (ERT) both as a breacher and later as a team leader. He retired in 2021 as the Divisional Sergeant Major for “E” Division (British Columbia), the RCMP’s largest division. Seb was a devoted police officer. He was committed to his craft and the maintenance of not only his high personal standards, but also elevating the standards of the officers that worked around him. Today he brings that same pursuit of excellence to consulting. He is the CEO of Raven Strategic Inc., which provides leadership and performance training as well as security related services. Tim “Gunny” Turner, @army_sgt_major joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1982 and by 1986 was a member of 2 Commando/Canadian Airborne Regiment. She did over 30 deployments “tours”. At the same time (on her time off) she competed as a Pro Fitness model. Although what makes her super different is that every prep for every show was done in a different warzone with limited gyms, equipment, no supplements unless brought from Canada, and limited food choices. Anywhere from Afghanistan to Darfur, Sudan. Finally after years of getting used to this life and growing a pretty thick skin, Julia broke after 26 weeks of quarantine in a year. Half of that was straight in an Ethiopian hotel room by herself with an armed guard in the hallway and alarms on the door. This is when all those years of war unravelled and she ended up taking the next 8 months, seeing a psychologist for the first time in her life, diagnosed with PTSD (that to her looked like anxiety attacks, hives and insomnia).

There is an authenticity and truthfulness to the music of Drew Gregory that is undeniable. The songs of this award-winning Alberta country music sensation are infused with a down-home realism, a gritty honesty, and vibrant sense of rootedness that comes from years spent working the land as a farmer – an aspect of his life that is deeply connected to his talent as a musician, singer, and songwriter.
Gregory, the singer, is also Gregory the farmer – two sides of the same engaging, unpretentious, amiable coin, solidly rooted in the landscape and soil of his rural homestead. The music is as approachable as he is, which also translates on stage as he forms an instant rapport with any audience he performs to.
Growing up in the small rural community of Standard, Alberta (population around 350), Gregory was exposed to music through local radio and from his dad's extensive classic rock vinyl collection. Drew recently brought home the "Horizon Male Artist of the Year" Award from Country Music Alberta in March of 2022. This is Drew's third win in this category, having won the honour in 2015 and 2019 as well. He also received Country Music Alberta's Horizon Song of the Year in 2019 for Better in A Bar, a song he penned with long-time co-writer Aaron Goodvin, and Country Music Alberta's Horizon Album of the Year for his album I Was There in 2016. Drew was recently named one of the Top 3 artists in the Project Wild Development Program in Alberta after a six-month-long journey of education and development. At the finale, held at The King Eddy in Calgary, he was awarded $50,000.
Over his burgeoning career, he has shared the stage and opened concert and festival dates for Miranda Lambert, Kip Moore, Old Dominion, John Michael Montgomery, Big & Rich, Emerson Drive, and Chad Brownlee, among others. Drew feeds off and reciprocates the energy of a crowd better than any and has plenty of experience on stage for large and smaller audiences. Past festivals include The Big Valley Jamboree (both Main Stage and Molson Stage), Bud Country Fever, Country Thunder in Calgary and Arizona, and Dauphin Country Fest. Entertaining, loveable, lyricist and artist, Ella Hartt has been writing music since the age of 6. “My first song was a rap about our family dog. I hope no one ever asks me to play it live,” she laughs. Influenced by her family roots and radio hits, Ella switched genres to combine the catchylyrics of pop tracks with country storytelling.

Terry Gainer’s family arrived in Banff in 1948 when his father, Frank Gainer, was transferred there as station agent. From their arrival until 1955 the family lived in the residence atop the station itself. During those years, Terry explored every nook and cranny of the station and the surrounding grounds. From 1957 he worked summer jobs there, initially as a porter in the baggage room and then as a redcap through the summer of 1962, which was the bonanza year of the Seattle World’s Fair and the opening of the Trans-Canada Highway but unfortunately also the beginning of the end of train travel to Banff. Largely influenced by his upbringing, Terry has enjoyed a career that has been an amazing fifty-year adventure in tourism. Though he retired in 2005, he has stayed involved in the industry as a marketing consultant. When Trains Ruled the Kootenays follows his previous book about railway history in the Rocky Mountains: When Trains Ruled the Rockies: My Life at the Banff Railway Station. Terry lives in Nelson, British Columbia.
George is the recipient of numerous National Magazine Awards (Canada) including Gold Awards in 2010 and 2018, multiple Awards of Excellence from The Society For News Design (USA) and The International Documentary Photography Award (Korea).
His books include: Borrowed Time, Saskatchewan Book, Alberta Book, Badlands, Prairie Gothic, In this Place, Last Call, People of The Blood, A World Within and Requiem.

As a clarinetist, he was familiar to audiences as both a soloist and chamber musician, including nine seasons with the chamber ensemble Aubade, and has been featured on CBC Radio in both capacities. He taught private students at the Conservatory and was part of the Morningside Music Bridge faculty. An active and community-oriented leader, Paul has served as a longtime Board member and as Board Chair for the Calgary Philharmonic, a Board member for the Calgary Arts Development Authority, and a member of the Honen’s International Piano Competition Artistic Advisory Committee. He also served on the Prairie Regional Council for the Canadian Music Centre, a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion of new Canadian music.

David’s career started over 30 years ago in Israel where he owned a successful insurance brokerage company and was President and GM of his favorite professional basketball team. However, David saw bigger opportunities in his future when he, his wife and three children immigrated to Canada in 1999. In 2000, David joined Torode Real Estate and began his career in Canadian commercial real estate. He was later invited to join a group of senior negotiators who bought Torode real estate brokerage in 2001. In 2003, David assumed the leadership role of President, and in 2004 the brokerage was rebranded under the name Barclay Street Real Estate. In a few short years, David has made strides in growing Barclay Street locally and internationally. In 2007, David added Property Management to Barclay Street’s portfolio of services and the division has grown dramatically in the last few years with properties throughout Alberta, managing today over 4.5 million Sq. With the discovery of frozen water on the Moon the general consensus is that extracting water on the Moon for use in space would be dramatically cheaper than bringing it from Earth.
The Lunar Water Supply company was founded to do just that. Our aim is to extract, purify, store, and sell water on the Moon. We believe that by leveraging the experience and talent within the Canadian resource sector we can lower our development costs and timelines.
