Finally an album by an artist that brings me absolute joy and isn't an aural onslaught. We're talking Far and in particular, their album from 1996 Tin Cans With Strings To You. This record was suggested by this week's guest, the moderator from r/numetal. When they agreed to be on the podcast, I figured they'd suggest Darwin's Waiting Room or 311 but I was legit shocked when they said Far - a band I have loved for ages with a singer, Jonah Mantranga who seems to epitomise the DIY spirit. But anyway, we do enough gushing on the episode.

The links between the early 2000's nu-metal scene and wrestling are well known but did you know that WWE had their own record label but only released one non-wrestling title released? Well, that band was Neurotica. Fronted by Athiest's, Kelly Shaefer the band are now pretty hard to find anything about. The only real way to hear them is by finding a CD on eBay or tracks on Youtube, but luckily I'm joined by Josh (Circle Breaker and Hellion Child) who is a wrestling lifer and loves Neurotica. It's his comfort band. An auditory warm blanket.

Talking Primus and their LP, Brown Album on this week's podcast with special guest Roxy who had the very difficult job of introducing me to the magical world of Les Claypool and band because I have never really listened to them before. I'm not a slap bass guy and I knew that Les is a creative force of nature so stepping into all the lore and cheese references felt overwhelming. Which album to start with? What do I need to know before listening?

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation might not have won an Academy Award, but it did give us an incredible soundtrack and sitting right on Track 5 was Pitchshifter with their song, Genius taken from their 1998 album, www.pitchshifter.com. This album is pure punk rock guitars over drum machines with glitched out politically charged vocals so it is easy to see why their were hometown heroes in Nottingham but what isn't as easy to see if why their parting with Earache caused so much drama. Earache founder, Digby Pearson said "what a colossal waste of space that band turned out to be" - man, falling out of love can be rough. They say the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference but can the same be said when you have royalties, touring duties, song writing and recordings involved?

Easily one of the best interviews, I've ever done, I know you're going to enjoy this episode with Jerk singer, Johnathan Devoy as we discuss touring with Insane Clown Posse and Disturbed, why he hates the single 'I Hate People Like That', what Johnny Rotten thinks of the band and of course, being the drummer in Queen of the Damned and how itchy eyebrow stubble can be.
Honestly, this episode is so much fun. Johnathan brought the A grade stories and a real candidness to the podcast.
I first saw Wollongong metal band, Segression all the way back in February, 2000 supporting an up and coming band out of Iowa called, Slipknot. I enjoyed their set, went and bought the album at Sanity and then started a soon to be award winning podcast that would eventually put me in touch with Chris Rand, the bassist and singer from Segression. Some people have said that Segression only started playing metal to have a member appear on Bacio Death Trip and whilst Chris and I don't get into that, we do talk about the ways in which Slipknot used to go about hiding their identities, performing karaoke with Zakk Wylde, singing Bleed with Soulfly at a Big Day Out, pre-workout (of course) and we do get into Smile - their third album which was released by Roadrunner Records (or was it?) back in 2000.
A must listen for any old school Australian metal fans!

They don't do many interviews, Western media seem to ignore them and the album that we're talking about isn't on Spotify in Australia and I refuse to get an Apple Music account. Chimaira found themselves on a pretty big record deal from Roadrunner Records and had to deliver a pretty big record and to our ears, they did. But were the Roadrunner boffins happy with it? Were they able to break through the Hatebreed ceiling? This album has a lot of fans and personally, I reckon it's one of those 'if you know, you know' albums that is probably a lot more influential than people might think. It mixes Slipknot riffs with elements of Deftones and Fear Factory and singer, Mark Hunter has even said that Mudvayne's Death Blooms was an inspiration. I'd argue this album is way more consistent than LD50 though. I wonder what Mr. Muse would say.
I promise that you wil not find a more mature conversation about Crazy Town anywhere else than on this week’s episode of the soon to be award winning podcast, Bacio Death Trip. You’ll also struggle to find a funkier episode as well.

Another album where the opening track is called Intro. The interlude is called Interlude. Height of creativity here. But Matt Bellamy can write a song. He can hit the high notes. He can shred and smash a guitar. In fact he set a Guinness World Record for smashing the most guitars in a year, that's edgy. But that's Muse. They march forward bravely into new frontiers, writing dangerous songs tackling concepts like Compliance and getting high on your own supply.
Easily the most requested album we've had, it was great to learn more about much beloved frontman, Dave Williams but how does this album stack up? Without the WWF blasting their hit single, Bodies near 16 times a week, would that song be as ingrained in our memories? Or were Jagermeister right to sponsor the band, put them on Jagermeister tours and Jagermeister compilation CD's to help take them to a much bigger audience?
An episode for the mud covered flower pot zombies this week as we talk Rob Zombie and his first solo record, Hellbilly Deluxe. Yup, the one with Dragula. A song that still slaps. Of course Rob's love of horror movies come up as well as the movies that the man himself has directed.
This album, and Mr. Zombie is totally in Psychonaut's wheelhouse. Industrial groove metal with hidden references to obscure horror movies from the 70s and video games like Twisted Metal 4 where you could play as Rob Zombie, hooning around in the Dragula from The Munsters.
I feel bad that we didn't mention that the great Joey Jordison played drums for Rob Zombie for a while but he did and you can read Rob's tribute to Joey here.
This episode is dedicated to all the former webmasters out there and we sincerely hope they take a break from finding a keygen for Microsoft FrontPage 98 and enjoy this episode on Dry Kill Logic's, The Darker Side of Nonsense. Is this a nu-metal classic? Is that even a good thing? Is there more on this record than first meets the eye? There must be, right? Because the numetal subreddit loves this album as do a bunch of Youtube commenters claiming this record is still in their regular rotation.
Also, where does The Dark Knight Rises rank in Batman movies? Like really, have a solid think about the massive plot holes. Are they forgivable?
A lot of bands from the early 2000’s have people claiming they are underrated. Releasing albums before everyone had the internet in the home has meant that their records are harder to find and the footage on Youtube is low res but also releasing albums after the industry had started losing money to online file sharing. But American Head Charge, and in particular this album is underrated. I hope to see AHC come back into fashion one day the same way Nirvana has. American Head Charge’s Just So You Know playing over every scene of the next Batman movie. Their shirts sold in K-Mart. I want an American Head Charge revolution so everyone can be walking down the straight with A Violent Reaction in their headphones, banging into people Bittersweet Symphony style.
But this is the first step in this revolution - listening to this episode. Be the change you want to see in the world.
Maybe the official title is [Reanimation] but regardless, we're back at Linkin Park base camp discussing their second release, Reanimation. So many remixes, so little time. But how gutsy was it releasing this after the massive hit, Hybrid Theory or was this just a cynical cash grab to keep the money coming in?

In the early 2000's, Roadrunner Records released so much music from a lot of bands you probably never heard of. Downthesun might be one of them but are they worth your time all these years later? I mean, they were championed and produced by Clown from Slipknot, so they can't be all bad, can they?
Plus, you'll finally get to hear if I would rather listen to Cold's, 13 Ways to Bleed Onstage or the Foo Fighters', There's Nothing Left to Lose. It's a real heart vs head moment. Difficult choices were made.

Can we add some unnecessary guitar solos?' and the label was like, 'oh big time'. Luckily there were four heads steering the ship. Joey Jordison, Robb Flynn, Matt Heafy and Dino Cazares. Who would win? Music would win. And Roadrunner Records. They won a lot around this time and Nickelback helped them win but they weren't on this album. Why? We're not sure.

The line that seems to follow Will Haven is that they are ‘your favourite band’s favourite band’. Does this mean that they didn’t get the commercial success they deserved? It seems like those who are into WIll Haven, are really into Will Haven and for a lot of those people, Carpe Diem was the album they first heard. But we’ll talk about how touring with Slipknot influenced the song writing on this record as well as the importance of clubs such as Sacramento’s, Cattle Club that treated bands well, gave them a space to play and helped form a scene that fostered bands like Deftones, Far and of course, WIll Haven.

Bacio Death Trip
Sometimes on these write ups, I am deliberately vague as to my feelings on the album. It’s an unproven tactic to lure in listeners and continue our rise to the world’s most successful podcast.
But then long comes Deadsy. Or as I am calling them, the worst band I have heard. Legitimately - so bad. But why did members from Korn, Limp Bizkit and Static X like them? Were they ahead of their time? Like, so far ahead that the time this album will sound good hasn’t even arrived yet. Maybe this album is the soundtrack to climate change’s final punch. Maybe there is some sliding doors moment in my life where I like Deadsy. But it isn’t in 2021 and I hate to imagine a future where this album sounds anything but terrible.
A party album to put Andrew W.K to shame, (hed) p.e seemed to be at the forefront of combining hip hop with rock, vinyl samples with screaming and later in the band’s career, going on deep conspiracy filled rants well before Q began posting cryptic messages online.
But what about the lyrics? What about the way singer Gomes sings about women? Should that detract from the enjoyment of the album? We’ll be trying to navigate our way through that one as well as looking at some of the small things (hed) p.e add to their songs to give them a bit more life.
I mean, we talk about way more as well. There’s a solid Jamiroquai joke in there that I don’t think got the response it should have. There’s a good Gumball rally reference. We’ve got a return sponsor, there’s a game that you might need a paper and pen for. Actually, now that I think of it, this is another soon to be award winning episode from a soon to be award winning podcast.

Salli Anttonen dives way deeper than we ever could about the negative feedback Nickelback have received in a paper titled, 'Hypocritical bullshit performed through gritted teeth': Authenticity discourses in Nickelback's album reviews in Finnish media but we'll look at if that negative feedback is truly warranted or is it just dog pile bullying from an industry full of people who were dog pile bullied in high school.
The more I type, the more I am going to give away my feelings on this album and the band in general so just give it a listen and then us know if Kula World was a beachball or a red ball somehow connected to the Fido Dido universe.

An incredible follow up to The Downward Spiral, The Fragile is an album that is so meticulously put together that it is understandable why it took 2 years to write and record. Also, there was this cool function on the DVD where you could control the cameras, so that was very much appreciated after I'd just been stung by Slipknot's, Welcome to our Neighbourhood VHS. I'm still tempted to write to Consumer Affairs about that one.

I was never sentient to Dookie. My first interaction with a Green Day CD ended in heartbreak so maybe I'm biased. Is it me who is wrong, no, it's the kids.

If you like bowling shirts and headsets, this episode is for you. Sevendust wrote and recorded this album after over 400 shows in a row and they had to get it done before heading out on Warped Tour 99. Chino makes an appearance. Skin makes an appearance. Benjii does his best to ensure that both Bam Bam Bigelow and Mankind make an appearance.
Despite this album cover looking an entry into a high school graphic design competition, this album is pretty good. Well, better than we remembered but I don't think it's something either of us will return to. That seems to be the Sevendust way, stick at a certain level with a certain amount of fans. That may not be a fair assessment, but we discuss that and much more on this episode.
There's a good 50 minutes of me biting my tongue until I have to start talking about the drums. It took all of my restraint but I couldn't hold it in anymore. You can't rock out on open hi-hats. Can't be done.

We go to way too much effort this week but it's fitting for a soundtrack that seemed to put in more effort than the movie. We're obviously talking all things Queen of the Damned soundtrack (or QotDOST as it prefers to be called).
This episode is currently being talked about by many credible journalistic organisations and terms like 'watershed moment' and 'groundbreaking' have been thrown around. We're happy to accept all awards and accolades but just because we managed to get someone who was actually in the movie, it really doesn't make us better than other podcasts. At the end of the day, we still get out of bed one leg at a time, it's just that we have more journalistic integrity that the vast majority of mainstream media.
But really, we've got a heap of insight into why the movie got made, what it was like on set, why a heap of nude scenes were cut and why JDevil couldn't sing on the songs he wrote - although, technically that's not true because if you stick around until the end credits, you might hear him.

Like a dog being let off it's leash, a student submitting their last ever thesis or Jamie Kennedy completing shooting on the set of Scream 3. It's done. It's over. What doesn't kill you, can only make you stronger, right? Right?
What kind of people are we going to attract this week as we use the hashtag 'orgy' all over Instagram? We're going to attract cyber dogs, that's who we will attract. People running the millennial gamut and stocked up with fresh glow stick necklaces.
We're all about Orgy's Candyass this week and if you're from North America, the way pronounce Candyass is going to be confronting. And if you're from anywhere in the world, you're going to hear me say that Alien Ant Farm's song, Movies is a great song. That too will be confronting until you realise that I am right and that your whole life has been a lie until this point.

Americana was a monsterous album for SoCal punk legends, The Offspring so why does it leave such a bad taste in my mouth?
Just like doughnuts, music is subjective but give me 50 minutes of your time and hear why this is probably the second worst Offspring album after Conspiracy of One. Imagine having a Conspiracy of One tattoo by the way. How do you explain that to your grandkids?
I read through a lot of reviews of this album to prepare myself for this episode and none of them mentioned Eiffel 65, Major Payne, David Guetta or Puddle of Mudd so we’re hear to fill that gap.

Early Machine Head fans didn't take kindly to this album but it did introduce a whole new group of people to the band so we use this as a launching pad to talk about the vested interests that come into play when your band becomes a business. Whilst there is some background on how that Message in a Bottle cover made it to the album, the inclusion of that song makes it a hard album to defend but ultimately Machine Head have stood the test of time and their fans are still buying tickets to see them live.
Scour the entire Earth and try and find another podcast that is going to draw the oft-forgotten parallels between cricket and nu-metal.

I wholeheartedly believe that Linkin Park are fantastic band that should be role models for many bands. We’ll go through it all on this episode as well as a legitimate scoop on how the band broke the Chinese market.
Travelling through Asia, hanging out in rock bars, I remember conversations with people in Tokyo, Jakarta and Xi’an asking if I was in to Linkin Park.
They seemed to have had a knack of making lasting impressions on their fans and that was evident at the Chester Bennington memorial events around the world.
Honestly, there was a lot I wanted to say about this band and didn’t get to cover it all, but we hope you can enjoy the episode and come out the other side with even more respect for the band.

Little Nicky is able to disprove a long held theory that any move that starts with a P.O.D song can't be bad. This movie is absolutely very bad.
As in, why was this made kind of bad. But it does have a very solid soundtrack featuring Cypress Hill, Disturbed, Deftones, Incubus, Linkin Park and Filter to name a few.
Little Nicky's bedroom looked like my teenage bedroom covered in Limp Bizkit and Korn posters but other than that, there is no real reference to these bands or the music in the script.

We've got an interesting episode for you this week as Benjii is huge into this album and I have only just heard it. Fear Factory always seemed like a band that the older kids cranked while I was marinating in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 soundtrack. Big kids out front of TimeZone wore Fear Factory shirts and I wore Mudvayne shirts. But now, I am a big kid and I can listen to Fear Factory.

One of the best episodes on one of the worst albums. Well, it's not bad exactly, it's just so painfully middle of the road that it hurts. Usually we'd try and bury the lead in the episode description but you should know full well before going into this episode that we're not fans of this release. But we spice it up with some Marty the Monster talk, one of the best sponsored ads ever and some Mr. Blobby chat.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and in all of the reviews of this album not one of them has mentioned grey chicken. Prove me wrong.

If you weren't around when Dig was first released, you probably know it from the memes now and that song did super well despite not having a real chorus or any hook other than an intense bass slap opening. But how does the rest of the album hold up? Not particularly well. Was the make up holding them back? Was it the fact that one of them had spikes hanging off his face? Was it because the opening drumbeat for Everything and Nothing is really cool and then gets needlessly tricky when the vocals come in? Or all of the above?

It's got a great mix of everything I like in releases and now that the band are on their own label, X of Infamy, they're free to do what they want. No more getting pressured in to writing softer songs. Not being forced to ditch their Dad as manager for someone with more industry experience.
You'll learn just how hard Kittie toured, how hard it can be to be a female musician and how calling the crowd a certain word can make their collective minds explode.

Honestly, we’re just as surprised as anyone that Incubus had us talking so seriously about musicianship, industry growth and lyrical depth.
I mean, I knew we’d be talking about Brandon Boyd’s allergic response to wearing a t-shirt but I didn’t expect to be hit with such a tough question straight out of the box.
This episode is a Godsend for anyone who likes half baked theories linking wine drinkers to nu-metal fans and the potentially dangerous task of selecting a support band. There’s no doubt that Brandon Boyd is a better rapper than Fred Durst. That’s just a cold hard fact at this point but if anyone wants to make a 28 minute Youtube video about how we’re wrong, then we’d love to see it.

But I was super surprised hearing Staind compared to the Pixies - such an obvious comparison that I have been regretting all the times I could have dropped that truth bomb at dinner parties.
