- 200 security cctv cameras in and around the properties were inoperable or malfunctioned on oct 1
- Robert Eglet attorney who initially went after MGM after the incident then flipped
- MGM has vast corporate resources to help control media narrative
Paul and Len Discuss legal aspects of the the lawsuit, the countersuit, and settlement
- Over 4,500 claimants in the lawsuit filed against MGM Resorts International
- MGM Resorts International Sued for negligence related to incident
- Paddock was allowed to move 21 sets of luggage to his room over the course of his stay, multiple times allowed to take the employee/freight elevator
- Property was not properly zoned nor outfitted to allow for safe evacuation in the event of an emergency
- MGM claimed that they were not liable because they “were not aware that such an incident was possible”
- HOWEVER, an incident at the hotel took place in the year prior where an unrelated hotel guest was found to have setup a sniper's nest in his hotel room
- pre-settlement estimates had the victim payout valued in the multiple billions of dollars
- Settled for $736 million
- With insurance coverage MGM will actually only pay out $49 million dollars of the 736 mil. settlement
