We hope you'll join us for a weekend service to see for yourself what we're about. Through practical messages, contemporary music and creative media, we present the ageless truths of the Bible in a format that's easy to understand, even if you've never been to church. www.discoverychurch.ca

Do you approach Scripture looking for contradiction and development, or do you approach the Bible as if it was written by God, allowing one passage to throw light on another? The Bible has one author who is God, given to us through human channels for the purpose of leading us to an obedient and worshipful knowledge of God, through the power of the Holy Spirit at work within us.

The Bible is a book that understands us individually. It affects us like no other book. It changes us. We become different as a result of encountering it. The object of the Bible in each of its parts is to point to Jesus, to tell us about our sin and our need for a saviour and a God who acts in love to redeem sinners.

One of the striking similarities between White and Indigenous communities today is the breakdown of intergenerational relationships. With this in mind, one of the most important opportunities we have in the church is to recover the lost art of mentoring, which Paul encourages in Titus 2:1-8. Ben will share thoughts on why and how we should do this, based on this and other passages as well as his own experience.

This is the greatest chapter in the Bible, in my opinion. It’s the greatest because it portrays the story of the death of the Lord Jesus Christ for his people in the most concise and poignant form to be found anywhere. The greatest love story ever told in the Bible is the story of Jesus and the cross and the work accomplished on the cross that is lived out in this chapter. Hosea 3 shows us God’s work of redemption-the work by which the Lord Jesus Christ delivered us from sin’s bondage at the cost of his own life-portrayed in Hosea’s purchase of his adulterous wife from slavery.

This is the story of Hosea and Gomer. But it’s also the story of God and his people. Like Hosea God loves you so much and he constantly seeks after you. He is a jealous God. He wouldn’t want you to share his glory with anyone else. But he is a loving God. He is constantly seeking you and comforts you during your desert experiences. There is no better picture of God’s love than Jesus on the cross, but the story of Hosea and Gomer illustrates this like none other in the Bible.
Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/discovery-church/message
This is the second greatest story in the Bible. No Christian can doubt the greatest story in the Bible is the story of Jesus' life, suffering, death and resurrection. But the story of Hosea is second because it is in anticipation of the story of Jesus. A metaphor, pageant, a play that gives us a sense of God's unconditional covenant love for his people.

Are we aware of the battle that goes on in the spiritual realm? In every world religion, there is an acknowledgement of a spiritual realm. In every minor religion, there is an acknowledgement of a spiritual realm. Even for those who don’t believe in God, many believe in the supernatural. If you turn on the TV, or you watch Netflix at all you know that many television shows and movies are based upon the idea that there is some supernatural force at work. But how well do we know the enemy? As a Christian, many of us don’t have any problem believing in angels, the problem comes when we have to state with certainty that we must also believe in demons. If God is real, then the Devil is real. If angels are real, and demons are real as well.

What does it mean to forgive myself? How is it possible that we can forgive the wrongs that we have done to God and to others? How can I forgive myself for what I have done? “Forgiveness - The Original F Word”. It’s a word that is misunderstood, mismanaged and malpracticed. No one wants to admit that they need forgiveness. It is rare that we seek it and we are often resistant to offer it. Yet forgiveness is a universal need. There is something inside of us that cries out to be forgiven and to give forgiveness. There is something innate in us that desires to receive forgiveness from our Creator. #DCBowmanville #Forgiveness

Politics, news, advertising…they all tell a story. Stories make sense of the world we live in and help us answer questions like “Who are we?” and “What’s the purpose of life?” The question for us is not whether we’ll live by a story or not, but rather what story will we choose to live by?
Scripture comes to us as a collection of books that tell one unified story that points us to Jesus. Through these particular words, we can encounter the living God and be formed into His image. This rhythm is about immersing ourselves in the true story about God, humanity and our world. #readthebible #bible #youversion #DCBowmanville

Everyone feels a longing for fulfillment. In our culture, this longing often gets directed towards doing more. More work, more play, more experiences and more adventures, all amplified by social media. As we scroll through the accomplishments of others, our own insecurities and restlessness is magnified and the result is busyness.

Despite all the rhetoric in our culture about self-love and self-approval, deep down we all know we need more than a pat on the back or a pithy cliche. We need a way to face our brokenness under the loving gaze of God and experience deep healing and transformation.
The rhythm of self-examination is a way of detecting both God’s activity in our everyday lives, as well as our own sin. It’s a way of coming to see reality as it is with the Spirit of God, through examining our hearts in prayer. #prayerofexamine #DCBowmanville #searchmeohGod #psalm139

Allow Pastor Martin to lead you through this prayer. Slow down...take a breath. Remember God is always present.
Like most spiritual rhythms, phones don’t help. Almost always they serve as a distraction. Put your phone away, find a time and place, ideally in the evening, to practice this rhythm where you won’t fall asleep. Though it’s tempting to try this laying in bed you probably won’t have the attentiveness to work through each movement. Find a spot to be still, attentive and quiet.
The prayer of the examen, or examination of consciousness, is a practice intended to bring us into a deeper awareness of God’s presence and leading in our everyday. It highlights God’s concern with the minutia of our lives: the big events and small, our thoughts and activities, what we do to others and what is done to us, and even our emotions. The examen acknowledges God’s willingness to use all of these to lead us into a deeper relationship with him and greater partnership in his kingdom. #DCBowmanville #Prayer #PrayerofExamine #selfexamination #Psalm139

It is impossible to love Jesus and not love His church.
As we will hear in this episode, the church is the bride of Christ. That’s the way we ought to view the church as well. If we really love Jesus, then we will naturally come to love the things He loves. And if there is one thing that I am absolutely certain about, it is that Jesus loves His church.

Shawn Mendes spoke about the song; “I feel like “Wonder” is in a lot of ways me just reflecting on my life, and life in general… I’ve never really done that before… probably because I didn’t have the mental capacity and clarity to even be able to reflect, and also probably because I was really scared of what people would think if I started to reflect in my music."
Ruth also shared some of the same feelings about her place in the world, could she find love and how in their culture could she be redeemed. It is also a description of who we are in Christ. We need a redeemer and our love for others and God helps us reflect on our lives and relationships.

Alanis Morrissette's song Ablaze is her song for her children. It recognizes that they're going to need to be ready in life to face conflict and evil. Her song is also a reminder that she will be there for them when they need her. Helping our children become successful and honouring to God is part of some planning. It's called designed dilemmas. Not only does it include faith activities but also includes obedience to your family values and norms. This message will take a look at giving your children survival skills, management skills, coping skills and faith formation skills.

This song from Tenille Townes is a reminder that we anticipate the day when we can rejoin those who have gone before us into heaven, to run into the arms of Jesus and to have Him give us the full perspective of our life. Wondering those things on this side of heaven is also important. Because it gives us a balanced perspective that we can have glimpses of heaven here before we get there.

Here what it means to love your neighbour as we imitate Jesus. We hope that you are blessed and come back again to hear more in this series.

Ephesians 1:3-14
Today we begin a series in the book of Ephesians with the theme of unity in Christ. This unity extends to every single area of life. That we are part of the body of Christ, given purpose and meaning, we have gifts and abilities as part of the body of Christ, we are loved, adopted, never forgotten, always part of God’s family. But in order for us to be truly unified as individuals and as churches, we must come to fundamentally understand our identity.
