I'm pretty sure that almost every aspiring country artist has been influenced at some point in their career by the already established stars . Whether your just starting out or theirs a "trend" of a particular sound, we all just try to fit in or, maybe do something a little different to make a difference. It's a lot easier if you have a unique recognizable voice, but on the other hand, it all boils down to the "HIT SONG". My own personal influences have been many. FARON YOUNG and DEL REEVES,,,,, two awesome entertainers . FRANK IFIELD and SLIM WHITMAN had unique ability to crack notes or yodel. Then I also had HANK WILLIAMS and ROY ROGERS. I could go on and on with a long list my friends. I'd appreciate hearing from you regarding your own peersonal inspirations or influence. Those I've just mentioned are only a few that nurtured my love of country music. What's yours?

There was a time in our radio music history when the "Stars" of radio were hard pressed to find new material. New York ultimately was not the answer. Of course people were clamouring for something new every week. Where did the artists finally turn to? You guessed it my friends. Country was the answer for taking the "POP" stars to a whole new level. You will be surprised at the who's who that made the transition. And then, there's the one shot deal like the great guitarist CHET ATKINS with his smash hit singing debut. I suppose i should list all those that I"m sharing with you today but hey,,,,, give a listen and enjoy the surprise,,, and for some, a walk down memory lane.

And,,,,, believe it or not ,,,,,CHET ATKINS actually singing ,,,, and,,,,, you're not gonna believe it but the GRATEFUL DEAD ,,,the rock group actually sang country. Enjoy ,,,,, and please share.

I'm thinking it was Valentines Day that got me thinking about today show in particular. In our country music history there has been so many different ways that love has been expressed so I did a lot of soul searching in hopes that I could get a cross section that included many of the aspects of this thing called love. SONNY JAMES, JOHNNY CASH, STONEWALL JACKSON , MARTY ROBBINS, JIM REEVES, BUCK OWENS , GEORGE JONES, JOSH TURNER and even ERNEST TUBB and LORETTA, all join in . Hope you'll join too and share.

It's almost planting time here in Saskatchewan and it's already started in some parts of America. And who is it that does the planting?????? Why the hard working farm guys and gals. And so my friends , give a listen to some of the greats that sing about things that in some way relate to life in and around the farm. I think you might be surprised. JOHN DENVER kicks things off but JOE DIFFIE , MERLE HAGGARD, LITTLE JIMMY DICKENS and so many more have a lot to add to the show. You might learn about JOHN DEERE GREEN and even what an INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER has to do with our country music.

CONWAY TWITTY, WAYLON JENNINGS , MERLE HAGGARD, MARTY ROBBINS, HANK WILLAMS, ALABAMA, LORETTA LYNN and even ELVIS, all came to mind. I'm not sure that all these songs are patriotic but they all resonate feelings that in some way relate to our soldiers, our military men and women and how the song writers felt about them when they wrote the songs. JOHNNY HORTIN'S "Sink the Bismarc,  BARRY SADLER'S,"Ballad of The Green Berets, TOBY KIETH, FARON YOUNG, TENILLE, JOHNNY CASH, KENNY ROGERS, TRACY LAWRENCE, BILLY RAY CYRUS and hey, even BLAKE EMMONS . My friends, this episode was quite a challenge for me.  WARNER MACK, MICKEY GILLEY , JERRY LEE LEWIS, C.W. McCAUL, OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN , and to my way of thinking , the Queen of country music, LORETTA LYNN , all passed away in 2022.
Lots of memories for me as I played their music and shared some of my adventures .
I've opened my podcast with one final song of this special season with a performance by JOSH GROBAN who in my opinion if he ever decides to cut a country album, it's a cinch to hit platinum.
Meanwhile,  GEORGE STRAIT with twin fiddles and steel guitar and his performance of "Heartland" is something I can truly relate to. Hope you can too.

I was talking with a close friend yesterday , mainly about Christmas plans when she asked if I had  completed  my  Christmas Album project and I regretfully answered no. We had a burst water pipe in the studio at Big Mamma so we were forced to shut down. The long and short of it is, she convinced me to go ahead and release what we had done so far, on my podcast. And so my friends, without further adieu , it is my fondest hope that you will enjoy what I call MY PERSONAL CHRISTMAS. For all our true dyed in the wool country fans , I truly believe you're gonna love this one as much as I enjoyed putting it together. The more I researched, the more I came to believe that this artist, Jimmy Rogers, was the most influential in the early times and  even to this day, the most influential in making country music what it is today. HANK SNOW, ERNEST TUBB, TOM T HALL, JACK GREENE, LEFTY FRIZZELL , MERLE HAGGARD and CAL SMITH  are all in todays show attesting to the fact . Of course I've got JIMMY ROGER'S originals here too. While visiting with friends and looking at email requests I am pleased to present some of the great country songs of the sixties. It was impossible to put them all in to one show because frankly after researching the hits of that era I got the feeling that the sixties were indeed the "Golden Era" of country music. So my friends, I simple picked what I thought might bring ya'll back to the 60's with the country stars that had smash hits of the time. ROGER MILLER, PATSY CLINE, MARTY ROBBINS, SKEETER DAVIS, BUCK OWENS, EDDIE ARNOLD, GEORGE JONES, JACK GREENE and even WALTER BRENNAN held down the number one spot on the country charts and also the pop charts. I was blessed in my career to have shared time in the sixties with them. Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane.

This was  one  of the most challenging shows I've done. Shortly after I had begun putting the show together I got a phone call that just tore me up. A family member called to inform me of the passing of my dear friend LORETTA LYNN.  I already had  GEORGE STRAIT and ALAN JACKSON , JOSH TURNER AND WIL ARDEL  doing what they do best  but the call brought me to a standstill. But,,,,, the show must go on as is often said, so I took a deep breath and proceeded to share my fondest memories of my true friend Loretta. On an even closer to my heart note I shared with you the story of a heartbreaking loss to our Wounded Warriors , the passing of our friend and sister Irene Purcell. BOBBY HELMS "My Special Angel" and GARTH BROOKS presentation of "Unanswered Prayers" pretty much summed up my thoughts for todays show.  For all my Canadian listeners , have a Blessed Thanksgiving .

During my recovery period I had lots of time to think of everything I could think about country music, its stars and what who was singing about. And then,,,,,,, SHAZAM,,,,, it hit me. So many of our songs are about particular locations where the actual song took place.  And so my friends, take a listen to Bobby Bare to start out with. I couldn't actually put all the songs Bobby did about particular cities because I get the feeling he had the most. I picked one of his and then Glen Cambell , and then Hank Snow and the Marty Robbins and then another and another and another. ALL GOOD. To my way of thinking, the best of them all is about a place called ARLINGTON, presented by Trace Adkins. I some times find it hard to believe that our Wounded Warriors Weekend Foundation will celebrate our 10th year in the summer of 2022. Of course i'll keep you posted on what we have planned. In the meantime, I got to thinking again about the artists that have supported our veterans and first responders over the years so I managed to put together once more a few for this show.I freely admit that I've played a couple of them in recent shows bur believe me my friends they've earned a special spot in our hearts at WWW. Unfortunately it would take at least three or four shows to gather them all together. I got to thinking about what time of year it is and that would mean end of harvest time in so many parts of the country and now in the USA its Thanksgiving time. Over the past weeks I've been amazed at the long hours our famers work at this time of year so I couldn't help but pick some great music that relates. Hope you enjoy everybody from Little Jimmy Dickens to Merl Haggard , Marty Stewart , Luke Bryan and hey,,,,, even one of mine. Please share with someone you love.

I could probably do 10 shows just to play all the songs Willie Nelson wrote that became monster hits by major artists in all genres of music. So,,, I was hard pressed to pick what to play for you and to share what I learned about how he came to write some of his greatest hits.. You might be surprised to learn what a struggle it was for Willie in the early years. Hope you enjoy Willie's own version of his songs as well as a couple of special guests. This was one of the most difficult shows I've put together mainly because it reflects on the most recent artists we have lost , and in some instances due to the Covid Pandemic. On the bright side of things, I'm sure you'll enjoy the incredible music legacy these artists left us with. Charlie Pride, Joe Diffie and Jim Ed Brown to name a few. Enjoy the show my friends and please share with someone you love. Drop me a note or a request at winradionetwork.com and let me know what you want to hear.

I've often wondered and asked many writers and artists what they were thinking about when they wrote or chose a particular song to perform. You'll hear Mac Davis, the humour of Johnny Cash and even something different from Glen Campbell. This show was a lot of fun to put together. Be sure to share and maybe drop me a line at winradionetwork.com

Did you ever wonder what the writers were thinking when they wrote the song.  Better still, what were the artists thinking when they cut the songs.  Here's a few stories about Faron Young and Johnny Cash that you may not have heard about.  You've probably never heard the William Tell Overture , you know the one. The theme song for the old TV show the Lone Ranger. Well,,,,,, wait 'till ya hear  Glen Campbell play it. Lots more including Charlie Louvin and Melba Montgomery

Well my friends,,,,,,,whoda thunk it. After all these years its finally being mentioned. I'll be walking you through how I believe it came about. Right from the OK to be drinking songs like Grandpa Jones sings about to Willie and Merle singin about "POT". What a hoot. Of course there's a whole story behind it all including Johnny Cash, Johnny Paycheck and more. An incredible interview too with a veteran who knows more about the subject than most doctors. Hello my friends. This show was a special joy for me to put together.  I'm thinkin you'll be truly surprised by some of the performances and more than that, you'll be surprised about who it is performing. For many of you it'll be quite a trip down memory lane, back to when their was no distinction about "country charts" and some of the artists were still looking for their identity. Hope you enjoy and will share. Why not drop us an email at mygoodolecountry@gmail.com

So many of our country artists were either born on the farm or in a typical small country town. Their upbringing is so many times reflected in the songs they choose but most important is the fact that  those songs become big hits. Its a real joy to present my "Here's to the Farmer" episode. Everyone from John Denver to Merle Haggard to Marty Stewart and even Paul Harvey weighs in with his thoughts. Joe Diffie sells a tractor and Little Jimmie Dickens takes you "Out Behind the Barn" . So much more my friends. Please enjoy and share.

In the early years of syndicated TV shows, the company Show Biz Inc. was the leader in country music shows. The PORTER WAGONER SHOW,  COUNTRY CARNIVAL , and my show COUNTRY PLACE  to name a few. It's my pleasure to present so many of the artists that were part of that era. Porter, Dolly, Del Reeves The Wilburn Brothers and so many more. I was truly blessed to be a part of it. So,,,,,, here's a lot of that music.

This episode was a truly emotional ride for me personally. Knowing the artists and the songs I presented on the show, brought back a lot of memories regarding mental health and addictions that some of these great artists were challenged with. From Johnny Paycheck to Johnny Cash. Lots of stories, thoughts and music from Roger Miller, Red Foley , Ernest Tubb and more.

During my years in the business, I can only remember doing one duet with an incredible artist on her TV show, Carol Baker. However, I sure had the opportunity to admire some of the greatest.  It was my fortune to be on many of the package shows that featured some of the great duos. I watched Porter and Dolly so many times as we shared the same TV studio. Johny and June, George and Tammy, The Judds, Jim Ed and Helen. They're all on today's show. Lots of memories here.
