It's been my experience over the years to sort of divide our country artists in to one o three categories. (1) Singer (2) Entertainer (3) Singer/entertainer. It's just one opinion my friends and it sure has brought back a lot of great memories as I was putting this week's show together. It might be a bit of a stretch but TEX RITTER and DON GIBSON relate to times and places you travel to. I am pleased to have had the opportunity to interview one of our Wounded Warriors , Clarence Grear ,who traveled to Saskatchewan to attend Wounded Warriors Weekend. It was a life changing experience for him which inspired him to start a company he calls "Lures For Vets" which produces fishing lures with the purpose of raising money to support our various veterans projects nation wide.

I'm pretty sure that almost every aspiring country artist has been influenced at some point in their career by the already established stars . Whether your just starting out or theirs a "trend" of a particular sound, we all just try to fit in or, maybe do something a little different to make a difference. It's a lot easier if you have a unique recognizable voice, but on the other hand, it all boils down to the "HIT SONG". My own personal influences have been many. FARON YOUNG and DEL REEVES,,,,, two awesome entertainers . FRANK IFIELD and SLIM WHITMAN had unique ability to crack notes or yodel. Then I also had HANK WILLIAMS and ROY ROGERS. I could go on and on with a long list my friends. I'd appreciate hearing from you regarding your own peersonal inspirations or influence. Those I've just mentioned are only a few that nurtured my love of country music. What's yours?

There was a time in our radio music history when the "Stars" of radio were hard pressed to find new material. New York ultimately was not the answer. Of course people were clamouring for something new every week. Where did the artists finally turn to? You guessed it my friends. Country was the answer for taking the "POP" stars to a whole new level. You will be surprised at the who's who that made the transition. And then, there's the one shot deal like the great guitarist CHET ATKINS with his smash hit singing debut. I got to thinking that in these troubled times many of my listeners could sure use a smile, particularly if you live in a part of our country that has endured winter storms. I was talking with a close friend yesterday , mainly about Christmas plans when she asked if I had completed my Christmas Album project and I regretfully answered no. We had a burst water pipe in the studio at Big Mamma so we were forced to shut down. The long and short of it is, she convinced me to go ahead and release what we had done so far, on my podcast. And so my friends, without further adieu , it is my fondest hope that you will enjoy what I call MY PERSONAL CHRISTMAS. It's simply me, presenting my favorite Christmas tunes along with some personal reflections on what Christmas means to me. The more I researched, the more I came to believe that this artist, Jimmy Rogers, was the most influential in the early times and even to this day, the most influential in making country music what it is today. HANK SNOW, ERNEST TUBB, TOM T HALL, JACK GREENE, LEFTY FRIZZELL , MERLE HAGGARD and CAL SMITH are all in todays show attesting to the fact . Of course I've got JIMMY ROGER'S originals here too. While visiting with friends and looking at email requests I am pleased to present some of the great country songs of the sixties. It was impossible to put them all in to one show because frankly after researching the hits of that era I got the feeling that the sixties were indeed the "Golden Era" of country music. So my friends, I simple picked what I thought might bring ya'll back to the 60's with the country stars that had smash hits of the time. ROGER MILLER, PATSY CLINE, MARTY ROBBINS, SKEETER DAVIS, BUCK OWENS, EDDIE ARNOLD, GEORGE JONES, JACK GREENE and even WALTER BRENNAN held down the number one spot on the country charts and also the pop charts. This was one of the most challenging shows I've done. Shortly after I had begun putting the show together I got a phone call that just tore me up. A family member called to inform me of the passing of my dear friend LORETTA LYNN. I already had GEORGE STRAIT and ALAN JACKSON , JOSH TURNER AND WIL ARDEL doing what they do best but the call brought me to a standstill. But,,,,, the show must go on as is often said, so I took a deep breath and proceeded to share my fondest memories of my true friend Loretta. On an even closer to my heart note I shared with you the story of a heartbreaking loss to our Wounded Warriors , the passing of our friend and sister Irene Purcell. BOBBY HELMS "My Special Angel" and GARTH BROOKS presentation of "Unanswered Prayers" pretty much summed up my thoughts for todays show. For all my Canadian listeners , have a Blessed Thanksgiving .

We have juast completed two incredible weeks at Camp Independence 1 on Tobin Lake and Camp Independence 2 at Meadow Lake. What a joy it was for me to meet our Wounded Warriors and to have the opportunity to share our stories with one another. i'm also pleased that the greater percentage of them shared my love of traditional country music. I some times find it hard to believe that our Wounded Warriors Weekend Foundation will celebrate our 10th year in the summer of 2022. Of course i'll keep you posted on what we have planned. Right from the OK to be drinking songs like Grandpa Jones sings about to Willie and Merle singin about "POT". What a hoot. Of course there's a whole story behind it all including Johnny Cash, Johnny Paycheck and more. An incredible interview too with a veteran who knows more about the subject than most doctors. What a joy it is for me to be able to play the country music artists specially requested by our visiting Wounded Warriors at Camp Independence 2021. We were honoured to host over 30 WOUNDED WARRIORS . I'm thinking you're going to enjoy the music and the artists they chose. In the early years of syndicated TV shows, the company Show Biz Inc. was the leader in country music shows. The PORTER WAGONER SHOW, COUNTRY CARNIVAL , and my show COUNTRY PLACE to name a few. It's my pleasure to present so many of the artists that were part of that era. Porter, Dolly, Del Reeves The Wilburn Brothers and so many more. I was truly blessed to be a part of it. So,,,,,, here's a lot of that music.

This episode was a truly emotional ride for me personally. Knowing the artists and the songs I presented on the show, brought back a lot of memories regarding mental health and addictions that some of these great artists were challenged with. From Johnny Paycheck to Johnny Cash. Lots of stories, thoughts and music from Roger Miller, Red Foley , Ernest Tubb and more.
During my years in the business, I can only remember doing one duet with an incredible artist on her TV show, Carol Baker. However, I sure had the opportunity to admire some of the greatest. It was my fortune to be on many of the package shows that featured some of the great duos. I watched Porter and Dolly so many times as we shared the same TV studio. Johny and June, George and Tammy, The Judds, Jim Ed and Helen. They're all on today's show. Lots of memories here.
