To Be Human with Jennah-Louise is a space of intimate conversation that sets the intention of humanising high performers by revealing the person behind the persona. Delving into the minds of those who are best known for their achievement, this podcast is a platform to seek deeper conversation than the common highlight reel. Vulnerable, raw, at times confronting and certainly thought-provoking, my commitment is to inspire us all to reflect on the idea that no matter who we are, we have all as humans faced trial and tribulation in our lives, and it is in our capacity to overcome adversity and our beliefs of inadequacy that we set ourselves up to expand the reach of our own potential. Please join me and our collective on this journey of self-exploration, expression and the depth of what it means To Be Human.
WATCH IN-STUDIO RECORDING ON YOUTUBE: https://youtu.be/Q5dmBu7-AVAOn today’s episode we have Parm Bains. Parm is a visionary thinker, compassionate guide and profound reflector. The founder of Empowered Living Mastery, Parm brings decades of lived experience, diving deep into the core of life’s challenges and fostering lasting change.
What I personally love about this conversation is the depth of reflection, the authenticity of expression and the symbiotic nature between us two. I am going to put it out there that I do think this may just be the best conversation I have had out of the 106 episodes recorded thus far. We were in flow and it certainly felt like there was a larger presence channelling through us both.
In our relationship of self-exploration we really went layers deeper than normal. I’ve experienced Parm as an incredibly integrated person when it comes to his spirituality, and it was powerful to be able to challenge him to truly reflect on what you can see he genuinely believes and embodies.
We discuss the concept of self-inspired bankruptcy, of non-attachment, and how particularly this affects the dynamic of connection with loved ones. We explore the notion of what is good and bad, and a new outlook of not objectifying your own perspective onto another’s experience of how things should be. We ponder truth, surrender, trust and intuition, and as you can expect a whole lot more.
I highly, highly recommend that you pop on over to YouTube, find me at Jennah-Louise, and watch this one; we are in studio and the depth certainly carries in visual presentation through our energy, connection and Parm’s inevitable wisdom shared. Enjoy.

Sharon is the Founder of Let’s Talk DXB that is redefining conversations and creating a platform for more authentic and diverse content that resonates with the Dubai community and beyond. She was recently honoured with the prestigious 2024 Women Who Thrive Inclusion and Diversity Award.
What I personally love about this conversation is Sharon’s depth of vulnerability; raw vulnerability. There is no pretence with Sharon. What you see and particularly what you hear from her, is exactly who she is and where she is in life. Moving from a space many of us can relate to, the prison and pain of aspired perfection, Sharon has learned through radical trial and tribulation in her life that the value and importance of ourselves lies not just in our sameness, but in our uniqueness; and particularly, in the beauty of embracing our ugliness and the messiness.
This is by far one of my favourite To Be Human conversations. We explore how we can take on these survival adaptations and compensations of silencing oneself; of taking care of everyone’s needs but our own. We discuss the evolution of Sharon finding her voice through her divorce that was not only a deeply challenging personal experience, but a cultural and religious awakening. We discuss shame, the power of vulnerability and authenticity, a passion for advocating for diversity and how to live a life with no pretence; of full integrated and embodied confidence to become not only the best you, but the true you.

Miriam is one of those women that continues to deeply inspire me and impact my life. We initially connected on podcast #34 of To Be Human which I highly, highly recommend where we explored her adventures of giving up her belongings with her partner Peter and moving to the mountains of New Zealand with a bow and arrow for 6 years and then subsequently walking 2,000km through the forests of Europe, along the coast of Turkey and ending up in the Australian desert. These incredible stories are shared in Miriam’s international bestselling books, ‘Woman In The Wilderness’ and ‘Wild At Heart’.
What I personally love about this conversation that we have today is Miriam’s continual evolution when it comes to understanding freedom, her consistent curiosity around who she really is and her commitment to living a life that is fundamentally true to her. We explore her current belief that to have a whole life that is planned is the worst prison of all. We explore the price we pay to live safe and comfortable lives and we explore how we are conditioned to continually solve problems, and what might just happen if we sat still for a moment and experienced the art of doing nothing.

In this conversation we explore the spirituality and practicality of happiness. Ali shares his beliefs about the path to happiness that requires courage and bravery in honouring and of being of service to who we truly are. It requires the act of questioning the norms of society, taking the mask off and looking within and ultimately taking responsibility for you, and your life.

We have the passionate John Gray back for a second time.
John Gray is the author of one of the most influential and best selling books on relationships, ‘Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus’ and has published his most recent updated book, ‘Beyond Mars and Venus: Relationship Skills for our Complex Modern World’.
John can be a somewhat polarising figure in his teachings around the differences of men and women. We certainly live in an interesting time when highlighting the relationship between masculine and feminine essences can be controversial. John’s been through the process and experience of being cancelled, and so this time round, I took the opportunity to ask him deeper questions around having an undeniable commitment to one’s own sense of truth, what morality is to him personally, and how do we show up with courage at a time when there is so much condemnation around owning one's individuality and perspective.
We also spend some time discussing how women can maintain femininity in a time where there is so much demand for providing and protecting for oneself, and as always, I let John get in his flow towards the end to speak all his wisdom around optimising self and relationships.

**Lana Estella is a Female Mindset Coach and Mentor who specialises in NLP and Hypnotherapy.
Lana and I met when I was in a contract role where I was heading a community of coaches. Upon moving to Dubai I have had the privilege of getting to know Lana on a deeper level and I realised there is a lot to Lana’s life story that has been left unsaid and unshared.**
**In this conversation I made it my intention to have Lana share her life experiences behind what most see online; though the content of her social presence of the soft life and luxury certainly has its place of inspiration, it was the path that has led her here that I find just as important.
Lana opens up about being homeless, experiencing suicidal thoughts, the loss of her father and the strength, resilience and not give a fuck about other people’s judgements attitude that has helped her to not only get through these moments, but grow into the woman, the coach and the mentor she is today.

Born in the Amazon she has this authentic connection to living in alignment with our true nature and the potent access to our own healing powers. We cover the Ego, the Soul, resistance, surrender, liberation, intergenerational trauma and how to live in harmonic expression of your Soul Authority. What I love about this conversation is Sarah’s journey from leading a life she proclaims was ‘less ordinary’ in corporate, to deciding to make a change. Sarah puts this down to her innate pull to not settling, which influenced me to reflect, where in my life, where are you in your life, settling? The story from corporate to adventure, is one that is becoming more commonplace these days, but there remain still, people, some I daresay listeners of the To Be Human Podcast, that are yet to take the leap and give themselves permission to seek out their fulfilment and sense of aliveness. Sarah describes her journey as physically demanding, emotionally draining and mentally enlightening, and if you ask me, that is a life worth living! Be inspired and enjoy this conversation with Sarah.

Experiencing a somewhat numbing of the body and silence of the mind, Jessie has found her power through writing and speaking on the topics that culturally we tend to steer clear of. In this conversation we explore desire, the relationship between love and attachment, and the process of coming to feel safe in your own body. What I love about this conversation is Bill’s ease in speaking about philosophy and particularly Stoicism as a way of life. At times academics can show up in a somewhat pretension and Bill certainly doesn’t do this, and I think it's because he genuinely practises what he preaches. He’s extremely passionate about making Stoicism available for everyone to at least try, at least apply, and see if you too can reap the benefits that he has. Stoicism is all about living a life of equanimity, meaning to be calm and maintain your emotions during difficult situations. I love it for the experience, the adventure, the uncertainty and the unknown. And yes, Zach certainly runs for the experience, but to be a world record holder in running 100 miles on the track, it is necessary to remove as much as you can in relation to this uncertainty and the unknown. There is a lot of great advice right down to specificity in the conversation that will help with increasing your performance, and there is a lot we can learn from Zach in terms of commitment. It took Zach 6 years of dedication to achieve the world record, and we go deep on what supported him in staying on the path of greatness during those years.

What I love about this conversation is Karen’s absolute presence. As a leader of connection she shows up in a way that has you feel safe, heard and seen. This is certainly a vulnerable conversation as we delve into the darkness of connection, how disconnection can fuel distraction, numbing and addiction, and we explore the theme in the realm of Gabor Mate’s work, stop asking why the addiction and start asking why the pain. Connection is a biological imperative, and this isn’t just in relation to us and our surroundings, our relationships with others, but also our relationship with ourselves, and so in knowing that we discuss how to stop fearing ourselves and start being with ourselves.

Jessica shares helpfully the four Attachment Styles that reflect the way in which we behave in relationship, and both in-moment and long-term strategies to guide us to a space of safety, security and connection. Falling 15,000ft, that’s around 4.5km, to the ground. Emma incredibly survived, but was paralysed from the waist down and told she would never walk again. In her new book, ‘The Girl Who Fell From The Sky’ she shares her story of courage, resilience, hope and her journey of coming to walk again.
What I love about this conversation is Emma’s beautiful spirit showing the evolution of her inner strength. Emma shares she wasn’t always the positively oriented person, living, as we do, in the ebb and flow of life, it wasn’t until her accident that she came to truly understand her relationship with her body and the appreciation of it. We explore the idea that as much as society focuses on the way that we should look, we are indeed not our body, and that our essence appears to be closer to the truth. She interestingly shares how being in a wheelchair influenced her to deeply want to walk again, and as she powerfully began to walk, thoughts arise that now she wants to run; it gives this beautiful insight into the human condition as how we generally are always focused on more, which to an extent can be great in terms of working towards expanding one’s potential, but we certainly also have to be accountable to when we continue to move the goalposts and do not appreciate what we have right now.

I want you to go on your own journey in this one, so I won’t share too much of what is inside. On today’s podcast we have Josephine Taylor. Josephine is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Writing at Edith Cowan University. Her creative and critical writing has been anthologised and published widely including her new book, ‘Eye of a Rook’.
What I love about this conversation is Josephine’s openness to sharing her experience of Vulvodynia; an unexplained chronic vulva pain. For a lot of her life Jospehine has experienced what she describes as ‘obliterating pain’ and it is in this episode that she shares powerfully the meaning that she has been able to derive from the experience; a redefining of suffering. Initially gagged by shame and embarrassment, Josephine now shares her story with power, a journey from antagonism and resentment to one of deep gratitude, Josephine shares, you cannot not be grateful for something that has brought you wonderful things in your life. Certainly a thought for us all to ponder on.

What I love about this conversation is Corinne’s energy and heart that she brings to the experience of grief. We discuss why in modern day society we have lost our connection with death and how this affects the healing process. We discuss how it is important to acknowledge grief, to give it space and to communicate it, rather than living in isolation. We also talk about grief being not only experienced in relation to death but also in relation to a break up, and the self-care practices that align with moving through when love meets loss.

On today’s podcast we have Sally Gare. Sally is a beautiful lady in her 80s who was a teacher in Outback Australia in the 1950s and is currently involved in the Alternative to Violence Project. She is the co-author of the book, ‘Outback Australia’; an inspiring story about her adventures in remote Australia.
What I love about this conversation is the intersection between Sally’s firsthand experience of working with Indigenous communities in the 1950s and her perspective on the people within these communities. Sally has a profound belief that though we may be different from culture to culture, we are indeed one, and it is more about integration than assimilation between cultures. The most important lesson Sally learnt was to respect another’s culture and through her work with the Alternative Violence Project she also spans this out to people's individual journeys and experiences; that we should take time to know where one comes from to better understand where one is going.

What I personally love about this conversation is Dave’s clarity and reflection on how we can best show up in our relationships as a conscious adult in the present day, and not that in reaction to our past triggers and traumas. We explore his 5 A’s that are what encompass us to meet our own needs of love in a relationship, which is really a core focus of his teachings; to always come back to yourself and look within. Dave also shares, which is really quite fascinating, the idea that many of us were brought up on this mindset that suffering and enduring are what make us successful, and it is in this conversation that he shares a different and more life fulfilling approach. Enjoy!

She shares her Architecture of Change, of why we should focus on mindset over action, and Intention Method, of why most people fail to achieve their goals. Hello Beautiful People!
On today’s podcast is Elizabeth Zion. Elizabeth is an 18 year old speaker, poet and student who has served on the global youth advisory board for UNICEF and a curated Ted Talk on ‘The need for family reunification; to make families whole again’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Elizabeth’s beautiful spirit of compassion and empathy for those who are experiencing less fortunate circumstances. Elizabeth, born in Ireland to Nigerian parents, experienced homelessness at the age of 14 alongside the experience of not growing up with a father due to him not being granted access to calling Ireland home. From this experience Elizabeth believes that families being together should be a fundamental human right. This conversation unfortunately begins a little muffled but soon enough gives into flow. The conversation certainly becomes emotive and raw in the second half, where Elizabeth shares powerful statements to inspire contribution in us all. Elizabeth’s purpose is to help people experience undesirable situations in a better way, and it is without a doubt that gratitude and faith run through her veins as she shares: “Sometimes I don’t think I deserve the adversity I have experienced because of how big the blessings have been.” A little insight for us all to draw inspiration from.

On today’s podcast we have Adrian Holmes. Adrian is a family therapist, clinical supervisor and trainer. Adrian has worked in the human services field for 15 years and is currently completing PhD research related to mental health and social policy. Adrian co-founded and manages the training and supervision organisation Tools For Hard Conversations and released his first book entitled ‘Tools For Hard Conversations in the Helping Professions’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Adrian’s focus on the problem being the problem, not the person. In this day and age it is quite common for experts and professionals to meet people seeking support through the eyes of them being somewhat broken and needing to be fixed, rather with Adrian’s take on this is that in labelling someone with say anxiety or depression, particularly children, can have real long-term damaging effects. Adrian prefers to see the person as whole, to explore our experience rather than labelling them and to lead with a foundation that we are our own experts when it comes to self-healing and self-development. We also discuss the importance of having hard conversations and the beginning processes of what that may look like.

On today’s podcast we have the gorgeous Dr Joanna LaPrade. Joanna is a Jungian psychologist who has a Ph.D in Jungian and archetypal psychology, and is currently a practising psychotherapist. She is the author of the book, ‘Forged in Darkness: The Many Paths of Personal Transformation’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Joanna’s depth; and it is no surprise as she specialises in depth psychology which she explains in this episode. I always love the expansiveness of conversations like this, where the themes and traits that we usually suppress actually become the main points of focus. Why I love this so much is because not only does it avail the opportunity for you to see yourself and accept yourself in all of who you are, the light and the so-called ‘darkness’ but it also touches on the fundamentals of getting to the core problem and not simply treating the symptom. Time and time again, especially in becoming a Mindset Coach, I see so often people keeping in the safety of the surface, rather than exploring the long-term healing components of depth. Certainly a topic we touch on in this episode as we explore the power of self-awareness over strategy, and how the commercialisation of self-help has become a burden to the underworld of our psychology that is at the forefront of our current behaviour and what we just may like to change.

Steve is a Deputy Head Teacher who has taken it upon himself to inspire his children through many adventures including trekking 200 miles through the Sahara desert, completing the Amazon Jungle Ultramarathon, the Arctic Ice Ultramarathon and last year running 380km across the length of Iceland, all stories shared in his new book, ‘What’s Next Sir’. He has even been awarded an MBE from the Queen herself, for Services to Education and Charity, having fundraised so far over 150,000 pounds.
What I personally love about this conversation is Steve’s absolute passion for life! He is one of those people who you listen to and you can’t help but embody this infectious energy of let’s get out there and let’s do great things! He is a whirlwind of inspiration, as we speak about the necessity of a ‘can do’ attitude, of the importance of having big dreams that both excite and scare you, and when met with setbacks, we need to learn, grow and in a true English way, just get on with it!

On today’s podcast we have the beautiful Jean Muenchrath. Jean had a 30+ year career as a park ranger for the US National Park Service. She is the Amazon bestselling author of her book, ‘If I Live Until Morning’ which is about a wilderness adventure that took her skiing more than 200 miles along California’s John Muir Trail where she came to face death from a mountaineering accident on Mount Whitney.
What I personally love about this conversation is Jean’s openness and candidness in laying it all out for us to learn the lessons she has embodied from this defining moment in her life at the young age of 22. We talk about the power of the mind, and how setting her intention to live out her dreams when she was on the cusp of death, is what kept her alive. Jean went onto live these dreams and shares how she probably wouldn’t have if it weren’t for her to not understand the shortness of life. We discuss the power of self-forgiveness, how it is important to find your voice in your journey of healing, and how stepping outside of yourself with compassion and loving kindness will always help you maintain perspective and lead to fulfilment.

Tim’s new book, ‘Patting the Shark’ is a story of learning how to live well with metastatic prostate cancer.
What I personally love about this conversation is Tim’s absolute rawness. We delve into topics that are for most what would be uncomfortable. We discuss the unspoken world of hormone therapy, of chemical castration, the loss of testosterone, a hormone men are built upon, and Tim’s experience with the fluidity of identity. We discuss taking an integrative approach to cancer; a partnership of conventional therapy and the importance of meditation, exercise, diet and sleep. We explore what quality of life actually means to someone with a terminal illness, and we get into mindset, my favourite, on how to make peace with your mortality, stare down your fears and work out what really matters in life.

On today’s podcast we have the delightful Jordan Collins. Jordan is an author of the recent book, ‘Where’ which is a representation of their passionate, personal and political slam poem they wrote at the young age of 14 years-old, based around the question, ‘Where are you from?’ This poem was written as a way to connect with people who ask these questions and let them know that they are just human.
What I personally love about this conversation is Jordan’s interesting outlook and perspective. They share vulnerably their experience of growing up as an African-American-Greek-Australian, and their frustration of being asked ‘where are they from’ as a cover for ‘why don’t you look like me’. We talk about their experience of being ‘othered’, of lacking a sense of belonging and what developing a relationship with themselves looks like by unlearning the messaging of society.

On today’s podcast we have the wonderful Eric Maisel. Eric is a retired family therapist, now regarded as America’s foremost creativity coach. He is a developer of a philosophy of life called Kirism and is the author of over 50 books, including ‘Lighting The Way’, ‘Redesign Your Mind’ and ‘Fearless Creating’.
What I personally love about this conversation is our depth of exploration into meaning and purpose. I feel meaning and purpose are both experiences that are necessary for a fulfilling life, but are indeed experiences that we don’t always feel in touch with. So it is in this conversation that I really get Eric to be specific about how we can become more informed and take action. We also explore creativity, and discuss some strategies that I can say personally are integrating as we speak into my own life on how to show up, deliver and maintain consistency in that.
Please enjoy this conversation with the lovely Eric.

On today’s podcast we have the wonderful Nick Butter. Nick is an endurance athlete, motivational speaker and ultramarathon runner; best known for being the first person to run a marathon in every country being 196 marathons in 674 days covered in his book, ‘Running The World’. Most recently Nick became the fastest person to run around the coast of Britain after completing 200 marathons in an incredible 128 days! All up Nick holds 8 world records with 2 world firsts.
What I personally love about this conversation is Nick’s beautiful humility. Nick has been on a lot of podcasts in his time, so I thought to take this opportunity to get to know him personally on a deeper level. The trajectory of Nick’s life changed when he was told by a now good friend, Kevin Webber, who appeared on episode 5 of the To Be Human podcast and has terminal prostate cancer, to not ‘wait for a diagnosis’. This spurred a new path for Nick that took him into a new depth of experience of endurance and contribution. We speak intimately about the effects these experiences have had on Nick, through witnessing confronting poverty, to understanding the power of human connection, to recently exploring the idea of how to balance relationships with the commitment for high achievement. Nick has an openness about him and his story that is certainly endearing and inspiring.
Please enjoy this conversation with Nick Butter.

On today’s podcast we have the beautiful Emma Jane. Emma is an academic based at the University of New South Wales in Sydney whose research interests are quite eclectic ranging from sex and gender, to technology facilitated violence. Her research has been presented to the Australian Human Rights Commission and Workplace Gender Equality Agency. Emma is also an author having written her most recent book, being her eleventh book, ‘Diagnosis Normal’; which shares about the combined impact of sexual abuse, mental illness and neurodivergence.
What I personally love about this conversation is Emma’s passion to, in her words, break the toxic silence surrounding sexual violence and mental illness; that we need to hear more unpretty stories. Emma is an academic, which traditionally can come with a set of standards, I would say in separating the academic from the person behind the academia. However it is in Emma’s recent book and in this episode, that Emma courageously steps outside tradition and into the necessity of bringing together her research with her own story. Living in shame that is fuelled by silence can be terribly lonely, and it is Emma’s drive to not only encourage others to share their story, but more importantly to have people to listen, to really listen, that certainly makes this episode an important element in moving forward.
Please enjoy this lovely conversation with Emma.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the passionate John Gray. John is a speaker, teacher and coach on love and relationships for the last 40 years, and is the author of the famous book Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus and his new book Beyond Mars & Venus: Relationship Skills For Our Complex Modern World.
What I personally love about this conversation is being able to connect with John and get to know him and his opinions on a deeper level. I remember when I was very young I came across the book ‘Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus’ and always thought it was such a fascinating book. Everyone seemed to know about it and have something to say about it. What I didn’t know about John, that he shares in this podcast, is that he was ‘cancelled’ in the early 2000s for being what he notes as ‘sexist’. This is about half way into the episode and certainly when the conversation begins to turn from what I would say would be the teachings I am familiar with in John’s work to those that were now new for me. John shares some controversial opinions in relation to people who identify as transgender, bisexual and gay; some of which I will note here I do not agree with. One of the fundamental values of the To Be Human podcast is the freedom of self-expression, so I want to note, though this conversation is controversial, it does not mean it should be silenced. I’m on a journey of self-exploration, and I find some of the more polarising conversations of my life have provided the most clarity; so I request, even encourage, that you lean into this and be mindful of your judgments no matter what way they may fall.
I will preface this; I was indeed more of a listener in this podcast, than a conversationalist. Enjoy this passion fuelled episode with John Gray.
Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the wonderful Mark Avery. Mark lost a good friend, Frank, to cancer in late 2014. This event sparked mental health challenges for Mark which he internalised thinking he had to be ‘strong’ and began drinking away what he felt was weakness. Fortunately, Mark eventually decided to speak with a doctor which fuelled a transition into ultramarathon running and raising mental health awareness. Mark ran 21 half marathons in 21 days, having conversations about mental health each day, in partnership with Gotch4Life. He ran from Tweed Heads to Sydney, and most recently ran 24 hours on a treadmill in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record and has continued raising funds for the Cancer Council.
What I personally love about this conversation is Mark’s vulnerability and thoughtfulness through reflection to the questions posed. He seems to have gone on this journey from running for a sense of self-worth to running with a purpose of contribution. He shares intimately his experience of not meeting the World Record he had recently planned and what he hopes, in persisting through the 24 hours on a treadmill despite this, inspires in others. I can personally say with certainty his story is one of inspiration and impact.
Please enjoy this really lovely conversation with Mark Avery.

On today’s To Be Human podcast we have the lovely Rory Warnock. Rory is a Performance and Wellness Coach specialising in breathwork to improve mental and physical health, and an ultramarathon runner.
What I personally love about this conversation is Rory’s absolute zest for life. He is so deeply passionate about breathwork and it is in this conversation we discuss the best strategies we can begin implementing in our own lives to reduce stress, anxiety and depression and how we can improve focus, sleep and performance. We also explore Rory’s first ultramarathon experience of the UTA 100 where he shares vulnerably his intention of character building through resilience and why it is so important, in this day and age of comfort, that we overcome set challenges to further develop our sense of purpose and meaning.

On today’s podcast we have the wonderful Tony Bernard. Tony is the author of the new book, ‘The Ghost Tattoo’, a story about his father Henry, a holocaust survivor, and the journey of understanding the desperate choices his father had to make during this horrifying time in history.
What I personally love about this conversation is the point of difference that this story brings. I’m sure most of you would have read and heard stories of the Holocaust which predominantly seem to centre around the time in the concentration camp of Auschwitz; understandably why. However, as Tony highlights, there were approximately 1,000,000 Jews killed at Auschwitz which leaves approximately 5,000,000 Jews being killed elsewhere during World War 2. It is in this conversation that Tony shares this unique perspective of what his father’s experience was like well before he reached the camp of Auschwitz; of how his hardest moments were in fact during the lead up. He shares of Henry being part of the Jewish Order Service, also known as the ghetto police, and of the atrocities and murders that he lay witness to. Of how Henry was never able to forgive himself for not being able to save his mother. Of how Henry tried committing suicide when awaiting what seemed an inevitable firing squad, which were only 2 of his 5 near death experiences. We also speak about what Tony believes mentally it took for Henry to get through all of this, which I always find personally fascinating as there always seems to be a pattern which I believe can be brought into our everyday life and the way we can show up and face adversity.
Please enjoy this conversation with Tony.

Matt is a martial arts teacher, podcaster and an award winning author of the books, ‘The Hardest Path: A Journey Outside To Answer The Questions Within’ and ‘How to Be A Buddhist Millionaire: 9 Practical Steps To Being Happy In A Materialist World’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Matt’s way of engaging you in self-exploration with wit and humour. We speak about his 1,400km pilgrimage in Japan where he endeavoured to answer the question: Is life limited by time and money? We discuss the absurdity of how people work to save money to take a break from work, and how life is about trust and action: the importance of letting go of your fear and control, and the importance of making a decision and taking that first step; or as Matt says, “Just get on and do it.” Please enjoy this conversation with the lovely Matt Jardine.

On today’s podcast we have the lovely Mark Wolynn. Mark is a world leader in the field of Inherited Family Trauma and director of The Family Constellation Institute. He is a highly sought-after lecturer, an educational and training provider in which he has just released his new training on Inherited Family Trauma (I will leave a link below), and bestselling author of the book, ‘It Didn’t Start With You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are And How To End The Cycle’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Mark’s deep insight in and compassion for Inherited Family Trauma. Mark shares what Inherited Family Trauma is, how it could be affecting you and how to heal your present self who may be experiencing mental health challenges that are a manifest of gene adaptation from previous generations. He shares his personal Core Language approach which shows us how language and trauma intersect, and how, “Uncovering our core language can free us from reliving traumas that don’t belong to us.” I even share my own personal experience with Mark’s work and how it provided a new perspective on some of my deepest fears that have never felt true to me and my life experience.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the beautiful Ginny Burton. Ginny was introduced to drugs by her mother at just 7 years old which began a path of destructive addiction into adulthood, 17 felony convictions and multiple prison stints. Upon her final arrest she decided that it was time to take control of her life; that this arrest is indeed the opportunity to be rescued. Now, she is a Truman Scholar, Martin Honor Scholar, UW Graduate, a social service and behavioural health service provider, and national spokesperson on homelessness, addiction and incarceration.
I think it is important to straight up put this disclaimer in now; there is a strong trigger warning for this conversation. We cover drug addiction, sexual and physical abuse, suicide; I just really want you to understand that this conversation is raw; not just in the context of authenticity and vulnerability, but in life experience. I, myself, even felt slightly activated in parts, so please be intuitive as to whether this is an appropriate conversation for you. If you require support, please call the Lifeline 24/7 number: 13 11 14.
What I personally love about this conversation is honestly, I’ve got goosebumps. To be candid, this conversation required more from me than any other. And for context, I am not just speaking about this podcast, but in both my own personal and professional life. As a professional I am a mind-body practitioner/coach so in that capacity I am very well versed in having deep, explorative and at times, more challenging conversations. However, Ginny’s life story is, you know it is difficult to find the appropriate descriptive words. Intense would be close. Certainly the initial part of her story has a darker energy to it. She, as one individual, has certainly been through a lot. As shared she was introduced to drugs by her mother at just 7 years old; which not too soon after, turned into an addiction to meth, crack cocaine and heroin. She’s been kidnapped, sexually, physically and emotionally abused and she attempted suicide at just 17 years old.
I came across Ginny on a video that had gone viral on YouTube and her, and her story, just impacted me so deeply. And I would recommend, if you get the chance, to have a look at her comparative images on Google; a powerful mirror of where she has come from and where she is today. Now, Ginny is a strong, empowered, phenomenal woman. She is leading change not only in a 1:1 capacity, but on a policy level. What I really love about Ginny is that she has turned her story and her experience into her superpower. We have great dialogue in this conversation on the importance of having people with relevant life experience being part of making policies that are trying to create success in these problem areas that we have in our communities. She humanises people so well, and as someone who believes I do this quite well, she has truly influenced me to be so much more mindful of how I perceive and relate to people on the streets, facing homelessness, and some of which face addiction. She is an incredible woman. And I truly have no doubt that this conversation will be life changing for you, however that may land with you. Please enjoy this conversation with Ginny Burton.

On today’s podcast we have the authentic leader, Heston Russell. Heston is a retired special forces veteran, founder of the charity Veteran Support Force and Leader of the Australian Values Party.
What I personally love about this conversation is Heston’s absolute power that he exudes through his mission in breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and vulnerability, and his passion in fighting for true and authentic values of leadership. Heston is a man that what you see, is indeed what you get. This conversation is one of the realist and most raw ones I have had to date. We discuss the impact of emotional compartmentalisation, suicidal ideation, sexuality, war crime accusations and smear campaigns. I truly honour Heston for the personal power he brings to this conversation.
This podcast does have a trigger warning as we obviously cover mental health topics, so please be aware of this. If in need of support, please call Lifeline: 13 11 14.
Please enjoy this important conversation with Heston Russell.

What I personally love about this conversation is Laura’s expression of how close she was to never truly knowing who she really is. Living a life of corporate, overwhelmed with dissatisfaction and anxiety, Laura chose the adventure of a lifetime walking the entire length of New Zealand in a journey of reconnection with self, of joy and of fulfilment. We discuss the power of nature and how it heals, how listening to your gut provides the answers that you are seeking, and the importance of exploring the idea, that if you are right now unfulfilled in your life, that something else is possible.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the powerful and vulnerable Anton Nootenboom. Anton is from the Netherlands where he spent 10 years serving in the Dutch Army, including three missions to Afghanistan, and more recently moved to Australia where he spent 5 years working in construction; these being highly masculine environments where he witnessed first hand men’s mental health challenges. In 2019 Anton became the first person to walk to Mount Everest Basecamp barefoot, successfully raising funds and awareness for remote communities and wildlife of the Himalayas, and in 2021 set a second world record, walking 3019km barefoot from Cairns to Sydney raising funds and awareness for men’s mental health, including Gotcha4Life whose Gus Worland has been on the podcast #021.
What I personally love about this conversation is Anton’s powerful openness. There is so much freedom in being able to be who you are and share your story to the raw detail that Anton does. Anton shares about his experience with anxiety, depression and panic attacks that lead him to walking the shores of the Northern Beaches for up to 9 hours a day hurting with a lack of direction. He shares how walking barefoot to Mount Everest sparked his purpose and mission by realising it was as simple as using his two bare feet to make a difference for someone else. He shares of the both gruelling and rewarding experience of walking 3019km barefoot in 163 days, the impact that it made in the communities that he touched, and we get pretty raw and real, in speaking about how he felt miserable after such an achievement when he came home after 5 and a half months to an empty apartment and the loss of relationship. And this is precisely why I respect Anton so much. He leans in fully to the experience of being human without shame; which supports his fundamental message that showing emotion is not weakness.
Please enjoy this important conversation with the beautiful Anton.

On today’s podcast we have the incredible Dean Stott. Dean was a former soldier in the British Special Forces until a parachuting accident which abruptly ended his career in the military. Not one to hold himself back, he reinvented himself as an entrepreneur, motivational speaker and record-breaking adventurer. He worked in private security for 5 years, most notably in 2014 single handedly evacuating the Canadian Embassy in Libya, rescuing four diplomats and 18 military personnel, and in 2016 broke two world records when he became the fastest person to cycle the Pan-American Highway which stretches 14,000 miles in 99 days; cycling on average 10 hours per day. Dean is author of the book, ‘Relentless’, and is the new directing staff on SAS Australia.
What I personally love about this conversation is the power and impact of Dean’s self-belief and confidence. He is the kind of guy that knows what he wants and gets after it; and if there are any haters that come into his way, which there inevitably always are, he simply uses this as fuel to his fire. Though his resume per se comes across as quite intimidating, Dean is such a well-rounded person, in that yes he is tough, but he can also see the strength in vulnerability. In this conversation he talks about the experience of his father not initially supporting him in his dream of being in the military. He speaks about the challenges of an identity crisis, both for himself and his wife, Alana, when he left the military, and also of what it was like having broken two world records and fundraised over $1,000,000, to be asked more about how the canapes were at Prince Harry’s Wedding, than of his significant achievements both personally and philanthropically. We also get insight into what it is like to be the new directing staff on the popular television series SAS Australia. Please enjoy this powerful, yet humbling, conversation with the incredible Dean Stott.

On today’s podcast we have the lovely Kerry Preston. Kerry is the founder of Growtality; an Executive & Business Coaching Company that focuses on leadership development and team performance. She is a thought leader in this industry and is the author of the book, ‘Enhancing Your Executive Edge’. She is a passionate endurance athlete having run 13 marathons, two half Ironman races and most recently completed a full Ironman.
What I personally love about this conversation is Kerry’s passion for growth and vitality. On our path to achievement it is so easy to face a setback and feel like we are no longer progressing, or we put everything into our goals and feel fatigued because we have lost touch with why we are doing what we are doing. It is in this podcast that Kerry shares the importance of goal setting, how thoughts control your outcome, the power of visualisation both in achievement and in overcoming setbacks, and how you can use positivity as a strategic lens to attain all that you desire in life.
I first met Kerry in a Siri Lindley Mastermind, see episode #04 if you would like to know more about this phenomenal woman, so it comes as no surprise that Kerry shares her values of authenticity, passion and being of service to others. On today’s podcast we have the incredible Hugo Toovey. Hugo is a young Australian Captain in the Australian Army. In 2013 Hugo was diagnosed with testicular cancer; a 5 year journey to being given the all clear. Within two months of what Hugo would define as freedom, he was then diagnosed with an entirely separate and more aggressive form of cancer; bowel cancer. These life threatening adversities have led Hugo to start an initiative ‘25 Stay Alive’ and a co-existing podcast .
What I personally love about this conversation is Hugo’s optimistic mindset that has helped him to overcome some of life’s most difficult of adversities; twice. It is in this conversation that we speak about the importance of positivity and hope, of how your mental health can influence your physical healing and the importance of sharing your emotions. There was a moment there where Hugo experienced increased anxiety and a deep depression, and it is in this conversation he shares the strategies that helped him to move through this and become the strong and empowered person that he is today; sharing his story with passion and purpose.

On today’s podcast we have the powerful Leah Goldstein. Leah was a world champion kickboxer at the age of 17, and in her early 20s became both a special forces officer and undercover police officer; always being at the top of her game in whatever she immersed herself into. At the age of 30 Leah moved into the area of professional cycling and at the age of 52, this year, Leah became the first woman ever to win the solo division of the 3,000 mile Race Across America beating everyone, including men. She is a sought after speaker and author of the book, ‘ No Limits’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Leah’s absolute concrete approach to life. She has this strong mindset of never quitting, never negotiating with yourself, this whatever you choose to do, you finish it approach. She’s hardcore, I’ll give her that. As someone myself who is passionate about endurance and the mindset behind it, this is one influential woman who has truly expanded my awareness of what is really possible; if you want it. She has had two serious cycling accidents, one at 80km an hour breaking almost all of her bones; professionals telling her she will never compete again. The lesson here being, don’t listen to people who tell you your potential limitations, even if they are experts. Focus on what you want, back your self-belief, and this is what Leah did; she won the hardest race in the world, Race Across America at 52. And this another angle, age, don’t use it as an excuse. There is inevitably so many layers to Leah and I think I will best do this conversation justice if I just let you listen to it; to take all the powerful, powerful lessons from her life, her achievements and from her awe-inspiring character.
Enjoy this conversation with the phenomenal Leah Goldstein.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the beautiful Oceane. Oceane has completed a psychology degree with honours and is currently a midwife. Oceane is an author, co-writing a memoir, published in September of this year, with her mother Cecile, ‘The Silence Between Us: A Mother and Daughter’s Conversation Through Suicide and into Life’.
I will preface this with saying that this podcast has a trigger warning as we cover topics on mental health and suicide. If anyone needs to seek mental health support please call Lifeline: 13 11 14.
What I personally love about this conversation is Oceane’s courage. Certainly mental health in its generalised sense is becoming a more accepted theme in our society to discuss, however I still find that suicide has not had as much acceptance. Despite stigma that manifests personally as shame, Oceane shares very openly her experience of a former suicide attempt and how that has influenced her life over the past 20 years. Oceane shares how being labeled and medicated made her feel more helpless than helped, how being scheduled into a high security psychiatric ward was more traumatic than therapeutic, and what it is like to rebuild trust at home after an attempted suicide with those close around you. We speak about intergenerational trauma, the importance of listening, of having an open curiosity, of experiencing human connection over isolation, and of sharing your story. As the beautiful Brene Brown wisely says: ‘Shame grows on secrecy, silence and judgment’. We need to face shame with courage, openness and empathy, and that is certainly what Oceane has done.
Please enjoy this very important and powerful conversation, with the beautiful Oceane.

On today’s podcast we have the beautiful Dan Price. Dan is a passionate change maker, storyteller and educator in the mental health, suicide prevention and wellness space. He is a proud Ambassador for Movember and R U OK? Day. Fundraising for Movember and spreading awareness, Dan ran his first ultramarathon of 60km in 2019, 126.6km in 2020 and in 2021 created the Project 205, now also an Ambassador for Lululemon which we discuss deeply in this conversation.
I will preface this with saying that this podcast has a trigger warning as we cover topics on mental health and suicide. If anyone needs to seek mental health support please call: Lifeline: 13 11 14.
What I personally love about this conversation is Dan’s powerful vulnerability and storytelling. I was so deeply captivated by Dan sharing his story of real hardship; the type of hardship that essentially lead him, in 2014, to standing on the edge of the Sydney Harbour Bridge wanting to take his own life. I have no doubt that most of us, if not all, have experienced some form of mental health challenge in our life, but there is certainly something so deep in the idea of, as Dan shares, being in this state that rationalising to yourself to no longer be here feels like the right thing to do. Dan’s story is really emotive, it moves you, both through having the opportunity to see yourself throughout his story, but to also have deep empathy; one human to another. As a friend of Dan’s, I’ve always seen him as a phoenix rising from the ashes. The way in which he has re-centred himself, how he has learnt to love himself and as a byproduct of this, how he has learnt to forgive himself. A masterful suicide prevention and mental health speaker and Ambassador, he is truly saving people’s lives through sharing his story.
Please enjoy this conversation around mental health and Dan’s most recent project; Project 205.

Dean has run 50 marathons, in all 50 US states, in 50 consecutive days, he’s run across Death Valley in the middle of summer, won the world’s toughest footrace, the Badwater Ultramarathon, won the 4 deserts challenge and he has even run a marathon to the South Pole. Dean is also a New York Times bestselling author with his book ‘Ultramarathon Man’ and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed his more recent book, ‘A Runner’s High’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Dean’s zest for life. Dean has been on a lot of podcasts in his time, so I wanted to take the opportunity to ask him some more deeper questions about his life of running. We speak about his wild beast within; this wild, raw and very real part of us. We speak about the development of his relationship with his father and how he continues to draw strength and inspiration from his sister who passed at a young age. We speak about the fear of becoming irrelevant, of how over time, aging can challenge your sense of identity and how the focus changes from achievement to contribution; that it is ‘not what you get, but what you give’ that is important. And we end the conversation with a reflection on how to live life where Dean shares this powerful statement: “The bold don’t live forever, but the timid don’t live at all.”
Please enjoy this powerful and insightful conversation with the inspiring Dean Karnazes.

On today’s podcast we have the adventurous Heather Ellis. Heather is a communications specialist with a degree in journalism, and is the author of two books: ‘Ubuntu’ which details her motorcycle journey from south to north Africa and ‘Timeless On The Silk Road’ which details her motorcycle journey along the fabled Silk Roads of antiquity.
What I personally love about this conversation is Heather’s courage shown throughout her motorcycling journeys. She travels on her motorcycle throughout some of the most fascinating and symbolic places on Earth, and it is in this conversation that we go deeper on her thoughts, reflections and experiences of travelling solo through Africa; a continent that has many a contrasting opinion, but one that is not truly ever known unless stepped onto. The culture, the history, the characters and the inevitable self-development and growth that comes from such places. Heather also shares very openly about finding out at 30 years-old that she had contracted HIV and how this diagnosis silenced her. She shares how it fuelled fear of shame, disapproval, rejection and isolation. All things that are not Ubuntu; Ubuntu being “I am because we are”; the essence of being human.
Please enjoy this conversation with the lovely Heather Ellis.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the beautiful Claire Dunn. Claire was a former environmental campaigner for The Wilderness Society. With growing interest in the psychology of the human-nature connection, Claire immersed herself in deep ecology, wilderness survival and nature awareness skills, rewilding, Jungian psychology, yoga, somatic psychotherapy and nature soul encounter practices. Claire offers reconnecting and rewilding workshops and retreats, and personal mentoring sessions. Claire also holds a degree in Media and Communications and has been a freelance journalist since 2001. She is the author of two books, ‘My Year Without Matches: Escaping the City in Search of the Wild’ and ‘Rewilding the Urban Soul’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Claire’s beautiful presence and energy that she authentically embodies. In 2010, Claire embarked on a year of nature immersion, completing an Independent Wilderness Studies Program and it is in this conversation that she shares deeply about such an immersive and defining experience. Claire upon realising the distance between what she was trying to save through The Wilderness Society and the life she was living, took a leap of courage into nature and found that what she was longing for was also longing for her. Through living in the flow of nature, Claire’s old trauma patterns and parts of her pain body began to reveal themselves. Her voice of self-judgement became louder and the internal fight between the ‘doer’ and her new self was emerging. Claire shares about the importance of rewilding and the significant difference from rewinding, and one of my personal favourite lessons from this conversation is her concept of freedom and how this, through the absence of fear and resistance, we can experience if we so choose.
Please enjoy this really beautiful conversation with the connected Claire Dunn.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the inspiring Stephen Redfern. Stephen started ultramarathon running at the age of 42. What drew Stephen to ultramarathon running was the discovery of the unknown; to discover who he is and what he is able to achieve. And achieve is certainly what Stephen has done. Some of his most notable achievements have been the Hong Kong Four Trails, which is a 298km self-supported run on all four major trails in Hong Kong where he ran through three separate sunrises, to running 11,500 laps of his garage totalling 360km in a 2020 lockdown challenge, to recently running a 655km solo 6-day ultramarathon around his local athletics track.
What I personally love about this conversation is Stephen’s openness about his self-exploration and discovery through running. He describes his younger years of being a more of a hot headed, negatively orientated boy who found himself utilising bushwalking as an outlet; and now through long-distance running has come into a space of calm and positivity. As a self-proclaimed loner, who struggled to get a few words out seven years ago, it is such a beautiful trajectory Stephen has been on to now not only be part of a highly supportive community, but a representative of such, that people come to, including myself, for running wisdom. And testament to this, he has been invited to the 3100 mile Sri Chinmoy event next year in Queens, New York, where he will be averaging 96km per day over 52 days, to run what is referred to as the race of self-transcendence. Here it is indeed that he will experience the ultimate pilgrimage of endurance and self-exploration. Please enjoy this conversation of humanised reflection and performance mindset with the wonderful Stephen Redfern.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the absolutely exceptional Paul Watkins. Paul is a pharmacist, business owner, a stay at home dad and self-proclaimed nerd. He is a keynote speaker, author of the book, ‘Lost and Found: Why We Need Adventure’ and winner of the 2019 6633 Arctic Ultra; referred to as ‘the toughest, coldest, windiest footrace on the planet’; a self-sufficient race over 614km in the Canadian Arctic with temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees!
What I personally love about this conversation is, well, a lot really! Paul and I are really like minded; the kind of people that have more books than they do anything else, more things highlighted than is probably necessary, more notes than you know what to do with and are more likely to find friendships in the writings of ancient philosophers and adventurers that have passed. It’s this sense of growth and development that really pulls people to Paul; and it’s how he takes this growth and development away from the books and continues his journey of self-exploration to the elements and some of the most extreme conditions on Earth.
In this conversation Paul shares what it means to lean into the savage within, that we are more than our job; that we are indeed the stories and experiences of our lives, and the importance of failure that lead him to a winning mindset in the 6633 Arctic Ultra.
And for those of you that may not make it to the end of this podcast, I want to share part of what Paul believes it means to him To Be Human; Go and find things that are not your job title, your business card or your pay packet; find things that are essentially you, that you are passionate about and then go and write the best goddamn story you can!
Enjoy one of my absolute favourite conversations, with the phenomenal Paul Watkins.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the powerful Miriam Lancewood. Miriam was born in the Netherlands. After completing her university degree, she worked for a year in Zimbabwe and then travelled to India where she met now husband Peter; a former university lecturer from New Zealand. Together they hiked over mountain ranges in the Himalaya, journeyed for years through South East Asia and eventually ended up in New Zealand. It was in New Zealand that they decided to give up all of their belongings and move into the mountains with a bow and arrow for 6 years, and subsequently in 2017 they left New Zealand to walk 2,000km through the forest of Europe, along the coast of Turkey and also ended up in the Australian desert. These incredible stories are shared in Miriam’s international bestselling books, ‘Woman In The Wilderness’ and ‘Wild At Heart’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Miriam’s energy and openness. I read both of Miriam’s books, which I genuinely recommend, and thoroughly enjoyed the depth and pure, raw storytelling that prevailed. I cried, I laughed and I reflected on some harder topics that as a society we tend to suppress and ignore. I speak with Miriam about the wave of emotion that certainly was felt surrounding her fear of doing nothing and of being alone, her experience of transforming from being a vegetarian to a hunter, the lessons of life and death that are learnt from being in a relationship with someone 30 years her senior, and of finding herself through the exploration of nature and connection with the wilderness.
If you are enjoying these podcasts, please rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and I’m excited to share this beautiful, empowered lady with you, Miriam Lancewood.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the determined Mark Inglis. In 1982, at the age of just 23, Mark became trapped in an ice cave for 14 days with a fellow mountaineer by a sub-zero blizzard on the summit of New Zealand’s highest peak. Both starving and freezing, Mark lost 30kg and slowly watched as his feet were overcome by frostbite. This frostbite, upon being rescued, led to Mark becoming a double amputee below the knee. In the year 2000, Mark became the first New Zealand silver medalist in cycling in the Paralympics Games and in 2006 he became the world’s first double amputee to summit Mount Everest. Mark is a scientist, award-winning winemaker, business innovator, trekking guide and philanthropist, being the Founding Trustee of the Limbs4All Charity which is committed to helping some of the 400 million disabled people in the world express their potential.
What I personally love about this conversation is Mark’s deep determination in life. It is so fascinating to hear of the mindset behind surviving 14 days in such dire circumstances; the importance of knowledge, of faith and of having confidence in a compelling future. I’m also really inspired by the self-belief that pulled Mark to take on climbing Mount Everest as a double amputee; this idea of, even though it hasn’t been done, does not mean it cannot. And, I love Mark’s focus on attitude and how you yourself have control of how long the hard parts in life last.
If you are enjoying this podcast, please rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and I am certain you will learn something new about how to not only survive, but how to thrive with the experienced Mark Inglis.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the lovely Nikki Wynd. Nikki is a highly respected runner in the ultramarathon community. Starting her running journey in 2005 after the birth of her son, it wasn’t until 2008 when Nikki did the 100km Oxfam trailwalker that she really began to lean into this new area of her life. By 2011, Nikki was awarded the Australian Female Ultra Runner of the Year having broken the course records of 6 out the 7 races that she competed in that year. It’s safe to say Nikki has ran a lot in her time, with some of the most notable achievements being her completing Badwater 135, referred to by many as the world’s toughest footrace, three times, including being the female winner, first Australian female winner and record holder of the over 40 category in 2015, and in 2016 she set an Australian Record running 343km in 48 hours in the Australian 48 hour Track Championships. Nikki currently runs between 180km-200km per week.
What I personally love about this conversation is how Nikki has this beautiful balance between the importance of dedication and commitment, particularly when it comes to training, but also this touch of gentleness and enjoyment that she emphasises is just as significant. You would assume that a woman that has achieved so much, including winning the female category of a world’s toughest footrace, would be made up of grit and grind, but she shares the importance of drawing on positive energy, of placing intention behind a smile and of being motivated by family. It is in this conversation that we get to know Nikki at a deeper level; about how she is all about giving something a crack, putting it all on the line and giving her 100%.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the positively infectious Olivia Vivian. Olivia is a former Australian gymnast, having competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2005, 2006 and 2014 World Championships and the 2014 Commonwealth Games as a bar specialist. More recently, Olivia is a notable competitor on Australian Ninja Warrior, having first made an appearance in the inaugural season in 2017 and subsequently each season since; having made history by being both the first female to make the Grand Final, then following this with a second year in a row and in 2020 becoming the first female and only female to make it to the second stage of the Grand Final. She has also competed in American Ninja Warrior and the Ninja World Championships where she established a women’s World Record for the international standard of the long ‘speed’ course.
What I personally love about this conversation is Olivia’s absolutely vivacious energy. She is certainly, for me, one of the most endearing people I have met with the combination of animated expression and focused intellect. Last year Olivia spoke out about the ‘toxic culture’ behind Australia’s elite gymnastics program as she shares after competing at the Summer Olympics she became ‘a broken athlete and a broken person’. It is in this conversation that we explore deeper into this very raw experience for Olivia, how such a quote on quote ‘messed up’ experience can become normalised, how such experience created a core belief within her that she is ‘worthless’ and how the practice of self-belief and self-worth has helped her to gradually overcome it. We speak about the journey of Australian Ninja Warrior, what it is like to compete against her partner, Ben Polson, and the pressure that comes with being an Australian female icon both from an audience standpoint and that of production.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the wonderful Craig Hamilton. Craig was an underground coal miner for 16 years before starting his career as an ABC Radio broadcaster in 1999. From here he was also a commentator for the Rugby League, Rugby Union and Cricket at an international level. Craig is the author of two books, ‘Broken Open’ and ‘A Better Life’, and is a highly sought after international motivational speaker who focuses on destigmatising mental health and speaks about what it is like to battle a serious mental illness.
What I personally love about this conversation is Craig’s courage in sharing his story surrounding mental health and Bipolar 1. Craig in the year 2000 was asked to be a commentator at the Sydney Olympics, a dream come true, as good as it gets, type moment; only for him, on the very day he was on his way to the Olympics, he experienced psychosis on the train station platform, in front of not only family and friends, but also the public; being handcuffed and put into the back of a police wagon. When I was reading about this moment in Craig’s book, ‘Broken Open’, it was quite confronting; I felt like I was there with him, and with his wife Louise, as they described her staring at her husband on the platform coming to understand the true severity of Craig’s state. I reflected deeply on this sliding doors type situation; how you hear of these stories of people being so, so close to fulfilling their dream, just within reach, and then all of a sudden they are on a path never considered; so different. What I am coming to understand is that as a society we need these stories, for people to have these deep and defining experiences to be able to share with others, with us, so that we can learn from them. Craig shares that in the 7 months leading up to his psychosis there were warning signs, there were opportunities for him to have taken a different path, if he had of known what to look for. It is in this conversation, that we have the privilege to understand what these signs are and what to do with them if we do recognise them in our own life.
If you are enjoying this podcast, please rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and it’s time to connect and reflect with the courageous Craig Hamilton.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the glorious Julie Way. Julie has a full time practice as a breathworker, and is a specialised Lifeline Technique Practitioner. She is the author of the books Personal Mastery and Thoughts For A Miraculous Life. She holds a degree in Comparative Religion, Spirituality, and Mysticism, and holds monthly presentations that focus on a practical approach to the evolution of genuine spiritual, emotional and mental peace, trust, freedom, personal power, love and safety in our everyday lives.
What I personally love about this conversation is Julie’s ability to connect spirituality with practicality. I first heard of Julie through a friend who had shared many testimonials of the success of Julie’s breathwork in helping people to release physical, emotional and mental stress. This deeply intrigued me as I am particularly interested in the areas of both research and practice when it comes to releasing trapped energy in the body that can manifest in unconscious fear responses. Julie is all about 100% responsibility in your life; and this is certainly a belief that I continue to see time and time again in the lives of those that are most happiest, fulfilled and at peace. It is certainly a harder one to embody at the more challenging of times, but I continue to tell myself, this does not make it any less important or necessary. It is indeed the pathway to self-empowerment. Julie shares how love is only real, and fear is always telling lies, how addiction always starts out as a short-term solution and becomes a long-term problem. She shares about the power of forgiveness, using a real-life example in which she had to practice what she preaches when experiencing a deep feeling of betrayal by a former partner, and she encourages us to understand that the quality of our thoughts create our reality.
I will say, the audio is slightly distorted at times, which is unfortunate as all that she shares is certainly full of wisdom. But, in saying this, when listening back to this podcast, there was something really beautiful about the intermittency of it all; that it wasn't this constant intake, but the brain listens more intently to what it needs to hear in this moment, right now. For me personally, it was about forgiving myself for what I do not want in my life, and being open to receiving what I do. I would recommend listening to this in a quiet space with intention, or listen on a run or cleaning the house; being open to the teachings that are relevant to you; and always feel free to share with me the insight that you have learned.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the courageous Paul Pritchard. Paul was a cutting-edge rock climber and mountaineer; having his adventures take him from the Himalayas to Patagonia to the European Alps. In 1997 Paul won the Boardman/Tasker Award for mountain literature for his book ‘Deep Play’ in which he spent the prize money on a world climbing tour, finding himself climbing the slender sea stack known as the Totem Pole in Tasmania that is 65 metres high and 4 metres wide. It was at the Totem Pole in 1998, that a laptop sized boulder fell from 25 metres and hit Paul on the head; inflicting such great injuries that doctors thought he would never walk or speak again. Fortunately, he was able to, however he does have hemiplegia; experiencing paralysis on the right side of his body and the brain injury does continue to inform his speech and memory. Though Paul is now disabled, Paul is passionate about insisting that this does not mean he is unable; having since the accident climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, rode a trike through Tibet to Mount Everest, in 2016 climbed the infamous Totem Pole, 18 years after his accident, and most recently cycled through deserts and mountains for a distance of 2152km in the ‘Lowest to Highest Expedition’ in Australia.
What I personally love about this podcast is Paul’s tenacity in continuing to live a courageous and adventurous life post-accident. He shares deep wisdom about the power of the now, the power of absolute presence, and the power of true acceptance; which he so astutely shares does not mean resignation. I will highlight that Paul does have a brain injury, as he humoursely states, ‘he is missing half his brain and most of it is plastic’; so in saying this, I have edited this podcast with Paul’s encouragement to cut out pauses that he may be using to gather his thoughts as his brain does work at 50% capacity. I have left a couple of authentic and vulnerable moments in there on purpose, for us to truly connect with some of Paul’s challenges when it comes to his daily life; and what really impresses me is despite these challenges in this form of communication, Paul continues to write award-winning books, with his most recent book ‘The Mountain Path’ taking him 6 years to complete; typing each key with one finger ever so considered. So I think there is certainly an indirect lesson of embodying patience, particularly when it comes to your goals, from Paul too.
If you are enjoying this podcast, please rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and be present, be inspired, by this raw conversation with Paul Pritchard.

On today’s podcast we have the incredible Ray Zahab. Ray is a modern day explorer having been recognised by Canadian Geographic as one of Canada’s top explorers. Having experienced over 30 expeditions in extreme environments from some of the coldest places on earth such as the South Pole and Siberia, to some of the hottest such as Death Valley and the Atacama Desert. Ray is well known for becoming one of the first humans to run coast to coast across the Sahara Desert, running 7500km over 111 days, averaging 70km per day. Ray is a co-founder of KapiK1, an expedition business, whose mission is to create unique, once in a lifetime expeditions to the most jaw dropping locations on Earth, and is the Founder of the non-profit Impossible 2 Possible which encourages youth to reach beyond their perceived limits by using adventure as a medium to educate, inspire and empower.
What I personally love about this conversation is Ray’s absolute zest for life! In the space of Ray you cannot help but be deeply infused by his energy and influenced to reflect on how you can bring more extraordinary into your own life! Ray is extremely authentic, and he shares how he hasn’t always been this passionate explorer and lover of life. He is a former 1-2 pack a day smoker, drinker and hadn’t travelled much at all up until his 30s; now having travelled to 75 countries. And it is in his story of transformation and the trajectory he has led himself on, that is truly powerful, because, there was a moment in time for Ray that seeing others with such drive and purpose came to change his life, and now he has become that form of inspiration for others. Showing us all that you can too, in Ray’s words, with enough ‘patience, tenacity and willingness’, become and achieve like those you at present look up to.
I would love to shout out Chris leaving an Apple Podcast Review sharing that he ‘finds this podcast fantastic to listen to, lots of conversations and a fantastic interviewer; really recommend this one’. So thank you Chris! This story is actually a funny one as I met Chris in a hotel lift. Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the wonderful Joe Bonington. Joe is the founder of Joe’s Basecamp and Australia’s leading Strength and Conditioning specialist in outdoor wilderness and adventure sports and activities. Joe helps adventurers, extreme athletes and ordinary people achieve their goals and dreams such as skiing to the North Pole, running the Sahara, Gobi and Atacama deserts, swimming the English channel, kayaking rivers hundreds of kilometres from source to sea, and competing in ultramarathon events. Significantly, Joe has trained more Everest Summiteers than any other Australian.
Joe writes for magazines such as Australian Geographic Adventure, has featured on several TV programs, runs corporate programs and is an experienced speaker and storyteller. Joe is also an ambassador for the Australian Himalayan Foundation and passionate about helping the mountain people of the Himalayas with initiatives around education, health, conservation and climate change.
What I personally love about this conversation is Joe’s vulnerability in sharing his story. Joe is the son of a famous mountaineer, Sir Chris Bonington, and though Joe deeply respected his father and his achievements, Joe came to lose his way in his younger years through the effects of having a famous father on him and his family; finding relief through drugs, alcohol and petty crime. Joe’s story is certainly one from breakdown to breakthrough, and I think such an important real world example of the possibility of choosing a new path in every moment of your life. At any point you have led yourself and/or others down the ‘wrong’ path, there is always the opportunity to lead yourself and others down the ‘right’ one.
I read recently that the Ego fears you ever experiencing a crisis, because a crisis propels you further than the limitations of safety and comfort that the Ego creates for you, and it is in these moments of crisis that we come to face who we truly are, outside of the cages, we recognise that the Ego is simply a form of constraint, it is an illusion, and it is not you.

On today’s podcast we have the phenomenal Lisa Blair. At the age of 25, Lisa discovered sailing. Impressively, a mere 7 years later Lisa made history by becoming the first woman to sail around Antarctica with one stop. Lisa then went on to lead the first all-female team to compete in the 2017 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in 16 years, before setting two more world records in December 2018 when she sailed solo non-stop and unassisted around Australia; spending 58 days at sea. Lisa is a keynote speaker, an advocate for awareness of climate change through her project ‘Climate Action Now’ and an author of the book, ‘Facing Fear’.
What I personally love about this conversation is Lisa’s strength and determination. She is a proud Australian adventurer, and it's genuinely awe-inspiring to hear of her story from being a girl from the outback to becoming a woman of the ocean. When Lisa made history by becoming the first woman to sail around Antarctica with one stop, this one stop was due to her boat dismasting. In this conversation she shares the truly terrifying and dramatic experience of what this means and after not seeing another human being for 72 days, the trauma that is heightened when you are in complete isolation now facing a very real life and death situation. It’s certainly one of those stories that gets your heart racing. And now, coming into the final end of 2021, Lisa is heading out to attempt Antarctica 2.0, now attempting to not only achieve this incredible feat non-stop and unassisted, but become the fastest person to do so.

He has both presented and produced shows on Network Ten, Foxtel and Channel Nine. He is a passionate filmmaker, a Positive Psychology graduate and is currently writing a thesis on Eudamonics, the type of happiness that comes from meaningful purpose in one’s life, from a neuroscience perspective. He is also a former Ambassador for Headspace.
What I personally love about this podcast is Scott’s openness about his experiences in both media and entrepreneurship. These are very challenging yet rewarding playing fields, and Scott shares his mindset and practices of what he has learnt over the years in relation to both business and personal life; essentially of how to best live your life on your terms.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the lovely Sue Clarke. Sue has such a deep and vast experience of life. She worked in Customs for 28 years and was involved in task forces such as Counter Terrorism, Air Border Security, People Smuggling and Joint Target Ops. She was in the reserve army for 10 years and a Presiding Justice of Peace in the Magistrate Court for Violence Restraining Orders. She is a Personal Trainer and a Marriage Celebrant. She was a participant on Season 1 of Australian Survivor where we first met and a former Ambassador for the Australian Charity Act for Kids where she collaboratively fundraised over $300,000 through her adventures trekking the Kokoda Track and walking the Great Wall of China.
What I personally loved about this conversation is to come to better understand Sue’s incredible life experience and how this has resulted in what she is so passionate about. From people smuggling to refugees to domestic violence, Sue has worked first hand in these areas and it is insightful to hear the stories that are not always available through mainstream media. As this is a long conversation, I will let you know, this is the focus on the first half, and then we move into the space of talking intimately about our experience on Australian Survivor together, what it is like to come in and out of the spotlight, and the importance of moving on and growing from such experiences.
If you are loving this podcast, please rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, I actually received a message from a good friend of mine showing me someone recommending the podcast to her, which was really exciting as I do genuinely believe and know these conversations have a positive impact on people’s lives, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and just like Sue has previously described this podcast to me, as it feels like just the three of us having a chat, I hope you enjoy this intimate and insightful conversation with the beautiful Sue Clarke.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the passionate Sergeant Mark Thomas. Mark has been a police officer with Victoria Police for 25 years. Mark is a trained peer support officer and has presented his mental health journey with internal units and the media. In 2003, Mark attended a triggering accident; and due to what he terms ‘a progressive failure to recognise the signs and symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety, he experienced what he terms ‘a downfall’ 10 years later when he was admitted into a Psychiatric Clinic. In present time, Mark describes himself as a ‘functioning person who strives to inspire, persuade and lead others that are living their own mental health journey’. He founded ‘The Code 9 Foundation’; a foundation that sponsors assistance dogs, and supports current and veteran first responders, their partners, children and their carers. He has been a speaker for Beyond Blue for 6 years and has his own inspirational speaking business.
What I personally love about this conversation is Mark’s vulnerability and honesty. He really leans into the conversation of the symptoms of PTSD, and shares very openly the raw and real experience, of experiencing these symptoms but not truly realising the effects they were having on his life, until what he quotes, ‘a downfall in a very dark world’. He shares his journey focused on his trips to the Annapurna Circuit, Nepal, pre and post diagnosis. I even share personally my own experience with PTSD, and we certainly found similarity in the fascinating space of mentally normalising symptoms of PTSD after our triggering events. If you are experiencing symptoms of PTSD, I highly recommend you seek professional help.
If you are listening on Apple Podcasts, please share the love and leave a review; as I gain momentum in releasing these conversations it helps in more people being able to find important conversations such as this one. Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the wonderful Gus Worland. Gus is a radio and television personality, having hosted a three-part documentary series Man Up, which was focused on lifting the lid on the relationship between masculinity, social isolation, mental health and suicide. Due to this receiving great attention and creating awareness, and knowing Gus knew more was needed, being action, education and connection, he left his breakfast radio gig and founded the not-for-profit foundation, Gotcha4Life which is an Australian mental fitness charity that works to end suicide through delivering programs that create meaningful mateship, build emotional muscle and strengthen social connection in local communities.
What I personally love about this podcast is Gus’ deep enthusiasm and passion for mental fitness. Suicide is the leading cause of death in Australians aged 15-49, with over 65,000 attempts in Australia each year. I feel in this day and age, statistics can really dehumanise the people behind these numbers, so it really impressed me when Gus shared that the vision of Gotcha4Life is zero suicides; because no one life is worth losing.
If you enjoy this podcast, please rate, leave a review, share with friends and family, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and enjoy this fun and important conversation with Gus Worland.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the absolutely phenomenal Robert Hamilton Owens. Robert is a radio and television personality, keynote speaker, adventurer, 12 x Ironman triathlete, philanthropist, former Pararescueman, father of 5 and author of the book, ‘Beyond Average: Developing Yourself Through The 20X Principle’. He was referred to as the fittest and mentally toughest 66-year-old in the world. This was labeled after Robert decided at the age of 65 to complete 5 endurance challenges in one year. \
What I personally love about this podcast is the way in which Robert really inspired me to reflect on the idea that it is never too late to start the life you truly want to live. After looking after his elderly father for 10 years, Robert had to re-create himself, and the way in which he did at an age that most people begin to wind down, is awe-inspiring. His goal is to be the ‘longest active Ironman in the world’, and it really gets you thinking. What do I want to be doing in my 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, even my 100s? Robert was the oldest man to complete the Sealfit Kokoro; a 50-hour event modelled after the US Navy Seal Hell Week; one I have personally been keeping my eye on for quite some years now. I asked him what was his why to get through such a brutal experience and he said; it was to prove them wrong, when most told him he could not, and it was his decision to die before he quit. Now this may seem extreme to some, but it really inspires the question, whatever it is that you want for you and your life, how bad do you really want it?
Robert made a special request in this episode, that if you enjoyed this podcast, leave a review, particularly if you listen on Apple that would be wonderful, and reach out to me, let me know your feedback. I think Robert will definitely be a multiple times guest on this podcast, so if you have any further questions on him and his life, certainly share them. And as per usual, share this with friends and family, this one is a great one for all ages, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and I’m excited for what you will learn from the lovely Robert Hamilton Owens.

On today’s podcast we have the beautiful soul, Mike Hamill. Mike is the director and lead guide of Climbing the Seven Summits. Mike is a 6-times Everest Summiteer, world-class mountain guide having guided over 120 major international high altitude climbing expeditions, has climbed all of the Seven Summits, the tallest mountains on each continent at least 6 times, some as many as 25 times, and so much more. He is the Founder and President of the Tiger of the Snows Fund, which is a not-for-profit that provides grants to further education of mountain tourism workers and their families. He is also an active marathoner, ultramarathoner, ironman, skier, cyclist, climber, traveler and fly fisherman. W
What I personally love about this conversation is Mike’s clear passion for the self-exploratory journey not only in the mountains, but in life, this drive for living life out of the comfort zone, to get out there and truly experience the majestic offerings; to live and to learn. He genuinely cares about the clients journey to success, has a strong sense of contribution and places deep value on the importance of cultural relationships.
As a side note here, myself and a few other ladies are booked to trek Everest Base Camp with Mike’s Climbing Seven Summits in April 2022. Now, the world is full of surprises and uncertainty, and I’m not sure, pending pandemic, whether this will be possible, it may be rescheduled for April 2023, we shall see. But I did want to share that I am Mindset Coaching these lovely ladies in preparation and during the trek, and if any one of you is interested in trekking Everest Base Camp and Mindset Coaching, or either or, certainly reach out and connect. I am in full reverence for the many adventures I have had over my life, having travelled to almost 50 countries and been quite the self-exploratory enthusiast, I have found myself on the top of mountains, and in the depth of canyons, and can share with certainty, these sorts of adventures are life changing; they are transformational, and it would be an honour, through these experiences, to guide you back to your true self, to live a life of presence, free of concern, worry and stress, and to be with you as you explore what you will create in this lifetime, the legacy you will leave; that you will contribute.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the curious Jeffrey Madoff. Jeffrey began his earlier years as a fashion designer, then turning to film and video production directing award winning commercials, documentaries and web content around the world for client’s such as Ralph Lauren, Victoria’s Secret and Tiffany. He is the author of the book, ‘Creative Careers: Making a Living With Your Ideas’, which is based on the class he teaches at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York. He is also a playwright and theatre producer.
What I personally love about this conversation is Jeffrey’s passion of placing attention on the false dichotomy between creativity and business. For me personally, and friends in my circle, some of us have found it difficult navigating the path between identifying as an artist, a creative, and that of an entrepreneur or establishing a career through your creative pursuit in some form. I find the topic very interesting between the practice of authenticity and marketing, and I pose these reflections to Jeffrey. He shares with us the importance of understanding what success personally means to you and how building a brand is a story well told. He shares a personal story of working in partnership with his dear friend Ralph Lauren and how showing your humanity is important both in business and life.
As always, if you are enjoying this podcast, please rate, leave a review, I love reading your beautiful reviews, share with friends and family, particularly if you have creatives in your own life exploring the path of business, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and bring your creative heart and business mind into this conversation with the lovely Jeffrey Madoff.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the lovely Kim Morrison. Kim is a 5- times bestselling author with her most recent award-winning book ‘The Art of Self-Love’. She is the founder of Twenty8 Essentials that sells organic essential oils and chemical-free skincare. And, she is a Coach specialising in breakthrough sessions, runs a Self-Love and Wellness Mentorship Program and is a host of the Self-Love Podcast.
What I personally love about this podcast is Kim’s passion to understand why humans have to go through struggle. Kim is certainly not shy of hardship herself; as she shares her story of being in the foetal position on the bathroom floor, thinking her marriage was over, her grandmother had just passed and she had just lost all of her money in the financial crisis. A truly defining moment in her life, she realised we all have a choice to get back up, and get back up is what Kim did. She shares the beauty of experiencing the spectrum of emotion, the importance of understanding the polarity of life and the true power that lies within the practice of self-love.
If you are enjoying this podcast, please rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, particularly I’d say in this one if you know of someone that is currently experiencing what we could call a 'dark moment', become part of the To Be Human Collective, and be present in this beautiful conversation with the lovely Kim Morrison.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the beautifully vulnerable and open, Mike Cazayoux. Mike is a back-to-back CrossFit World Cup Champion, and entrepreneur, co-founding Brute Strength, a company that specialises in developing physical training programs, having himself personally trained A-list athletes, which he sold in 2018 and moved into the role of President of Working Against Gravity, and most recently started a new business, called Soul Searching Adventures.
What I personally love about this podcast is Mike’s genuine transparency. We speak about some pretty raw and real topics, such as his experience with addiction that started at a very young age stemming from an intense desire to fit in. I really honour Mike’s openness in this discussion, as he shares that at points in his life he was really ashamed of who he was and his behaviour. But like he so timely shared, in the words of Brene Brown, shame only grows in secrecy, silence and judgment. We speak about being a CrossFit Champion and the identity crisis that tends to evidently follow any form of sports achievement-based lifestyle change, and we speak about Soul Searching Adventures, and his full circle experience from being a young kid who initially participated in wilderness therapy as part of rehab, to now providing men with an unforgettable adventurous experience that teaches survival skills, provides greater clarity and peace of mind, and the opportunity of bonding with other men. Mike ends with two important questions for reflection which I encourage us all to actively take part in.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the wonderfully humorous Dave Hughes. Hughesy is a stand-up comedian, television presenter, having for example co-hosted on The Project for 5 years, presented his own show Hughesy We Have a Problem, and more recently was one of the judges on The Masked Singer, and, he is also a radio presenter having made up one-half of the of Melbourne’s Nova Breakfast team for 12 years and more recently on Hughesy, Ed & Erin on 2DayFM.
What I personally love about this podcast is Hughesy’s somewhat surprising depth and vulnerability. And I say depth in the sense of, Hughesy is a comedian and his role is to assist in people having more laughter in their life; the take life not too seriously approach. But I was curious, what does Hughesy take seriously? And I was impressed; it was mindset. Hughesy is a passionate advocate about taking responsibility for your thoughts; to live in the present and let go of the past. To be driven by your passion, not by external validation; to understand you do not have to prove that you are worthy, and ensure in your pursuit of achievement you also focus on your loved ones. We also have an intimate conversation about the vulnerability around saying I love you, and in true Hughesy spirit we have a laugh about the absolute ridiculousness of it.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the beautiful soul Scott Richmond. Scotty is a husband, father of 3, graphic designer, the persona Ozzie on a kids educational YouTube Channel and ultramarathon runner, most notably having finished the UTA, a 100km ultramarathon event in the Blue Mountains, Australia, nine times, having placed as high as 6th and most recently, 7th place.
What I personally love about this podcast is going deeper into the motivation behind Scotty getting into ultramarathon running and particularly why he has participated in the UTA so many times. He shares that it all started to honour the memory and legacy of his little cousin Elliot who passed at the young age of 19-years-old to Motor Neuron Disease; fundraising for MND, Scotty wanted to try something that was well out of his comfort zone, and a 100km ultramarathon was just that, not knowing at the time that it would lead to a long-lasting obsession.
Scotty is a heart on his sleeve kind of guy, and you can really feel into the pain that the loss of a young family member can bring, but also the passion. Scotty values the sentimental aspect of his running, just as much as the competitive, and it is truly beautiful to hear the relationship between these and how it manifests in his high performance.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the beautiful and genuine Tiffanee Cook. Tiffanee is a former corporate worker to entrepreneur, host of the Roll With The Punches podcast, performance coach and a boxer, coming in as Novice Victorian Amateur Champion twice, and Featherweight VABL Victorian Champion.
What I personally love about this podcast is Tiff’s ease and personability. She is an open book about her life’s tribulations and adversities. Starting from when she was very young, Tiff adopted the coping mechanism of dissociation and it is in this mechanism itself that she credits a lot of her boxing success. But as we are all aware, there tends to come a time in our lives when what we have been suppressing now wants to be freed, and we come face to face with who we are. It is in this journey that Tiff questions whether she wants to be a boxer or does she want to be a healthy human? Steering away from competition, Tiff began to use boxing as a barometer as to the level of self-care that she was practising on herself. It has been a turbulent few years, and it is in this podcast that we get pretty deep, pretty raw and real, about negative thought patterns, experiencing past happenings in the present, and how somebody’s intention does not make for somebody’s experience.

On today’s podcast we have the passionate Troy Jones. 8 years ago Troy lost a good friend which sparked a pathway into depression and severe drug use stemming from the internalisation of his emotions, and the lack of awareness, at that point in time, of how to process them. He found himself in debt, ruining relationships and upon getting arrested experienced his darkest point. From here, he decided to turn his life around, became a personal trainer, he began to push himself physically and mentally, a form of psychological therapy and from this, he decided to, what he terms, deal with the demons inside, open up and learn more about mental health.
Fast forward to date, Troy recently ran 3931km across Australia, from Perth to Sydney in raising awareness for mental health and fundraising almost $65,000 for the organisation, Mindfull.
What I personally love about this podcast is Troy’s just complete transparency. He shares stories that most would find difficult to share, with no sense of shame, only empowerment and growth. This is certainly a piece of wisdom I hope for many people to take on, as I certainly believe, the more shame you feel about your behaviour, the more you will find yourself entertaining that very behaviour; trying to seek relief from your very own judgment. This podcast is a stigma free safe space, where we get real about mental health and Troy shares some strategies of what best helped him find his sense of purpose and direction.
If you like this podcast, I would love for you to rate, review, subscribe, share with friends and family, particularly those who may be experiencing some form of mental health challenge themselves, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and enjoy this conversation with the determined Troy Jones.

On today’s podcast we have one of my favourite people in this entire world, Nick Iadanza. Nick is an English teacher, husband, proud father of two and Australian Survivor All Star, having been a participant on Season 1 and Season 5; Season 1 being when Nick and I first met out on an island of Samoa.
What I personally love about this podcast is the authenticity that Nick brings. He shares vulnerably about his journey into adulthood that was, as he describes, bookended by the traumatic experience of slowly losing his mum; living in this space between not wanting to focus on his mother’s deteriorating health but also aware of the somewhat evitable end to this decline, and the effect that this had on his adolescence.
He shares of the pride he has for his ancestors who immigrated to Australia and the bravery that it took to provide the safety and opportunities that now he and his family enjoy because of their enduring courage.
He shares of being a teacher and the responsibility you have in this position to humanise your students and yourself, by appropriately relaying your own stories of vulnerability that they can connect with.
And he shares about his experience of being on Australian Survivor, and how from the age of 12 he was absolutely Survivor obsessed; experiencing this internal knowing that one day he would be on the show, despite what others thought. Living his dream has truly made him realise, what he describes as an ‘overdone axiom’, that anything is possible; if there is something that you want bad enough, you can make it happen. And he emphasises to simply chase that feeling of being alive; whatever that is for you.
Please rate, review, share, subscribe, become part of the To Be Human Collective, and enjoy this humouring podcast with the endearing Nick Iadanza.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the compassionate and committed Dr Andrew Browning. Andrew has spent 17 years of his life working in countries such as Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Togo in Africa, and has personally operated on over 7,000 women with obstetric fistulas; which Andrew will explain what this specifically is, in the beginning of this podcast. He has started the Barbara May Foundation which has built hospitals, trained staff and established programs to heal fistulas and also to prevent them; having delivered over 80,000 women so far at no cost for them.
What I personally love about this podcast is Andrew’s just deep love and care for these women, and humanity in general. There is a lot of shame and isolation with women when it comes to obstetric fistulas, a shocking 40% of patients have thought about suicide, particularly in Africa, and it is his mission of restoring hope and dignity among these women that is truly touching. At the age of 14 Andrew committed his life to Christ and it is truly fascinating to hear of the deep sense of dedication within him that has been his primary driver to achieve such greatness and alleviate suffering in this world.
For those of you whose faith may not be based in Christianity, I ask that when you hear Andrew speak of his faith, to insert where appropriate your own faith, as you will find in what he says, the fundamental principles tend to be the same; have love and compassion for one another.
I will state a trigger warning here as he shares some very confronting stories about societal rejection, rape and traumatic injuries, but in saying this, he also shares stories that are a true representation of our humanity based in resilience, strength and the power of healing through love.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have one of the world’s top ultramarathon coaches, Andy DuBois. Andy in his earlier years, changed gears quite dramatically, from studying to become a Land Surveyor, he decided to leave that behind and pursue his dream of finishing a Hawaii Ironman. It was certainly no easy journey, taking 5 years of both internal and external setbacks, but achieved this dream he did, and after completing 9 Ironman and 2 Hawaii Ironman, he began to ask the larger questions of a more long-term passion and purpose.
Andy proceeded to move overseas to London which also resulted in him moving into the ultramarathon space and in his first ultra, being 90 miles, he made every mistake you could. From pacing to nutrition to footwear, he made it. But instead of this being a turning point in which he tried something different, he took it upon himself to learn from this lack of preparation and knowledge, and his second ultra, the famous UTMB still remains what he terms one of his most perfect races.
Fast forward, now into his early 50s, Andy has many ultra accomplishments under his belt, such as winning a couple of 100 milers and competing for Australia in the World Trail Championships, and is now a highly respected online endurance training coach who runs his very successful and in demand Mile 27 Coaching Business. His aim with Mile 27 is to provide the most complete training service for ultra-runners available anywhere in the world.
What I personally love about this podcast is Andy’s ability to partner both research and strategy, with the importance of the pursuit of becoming your best self and having your best race. He is certainly my go-to guy for updates on the latest research when it comes to both physical and mental performance, and I’m all for his emphasis on mindset training being in line with physical training; if you aren’t strong enough, you can train it. There are a whole lot of mindset gems in this podcast from understanding the decision-making criteria for a DNF, something I am personally interested in, when is it appropriate to pull out and when is it appropriate to push through, to how to deal with the inevitable negative thoughts that creep in when fatigued and in pain, to the importance of being clear on your why and how external motivation can play into a little extra effort when it is most needed. Andy is also a proud husband and father of two and, he shares some wise insight into how to balance both parenthood and not lose who you are in the midst of your dedication to your family.
If you are enjoying these podcasts, please rate, review and subscribe, I am incredibly grateful for those who have done this, become part of the To Be Human Collective and be excited for this informative and passionate podcast with the lovely Andy DuBois.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the talented and kind-hearted Matthew Smeal. Matthew is a writer, videographer, fine art photographer, and for the last 15 years has been a humanitarian and NGO photojournalist. He has worked in countries such as Uganda, Kenya and Cambodia, for organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontières, also known as Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, The Fred Hollows Foundation and Opportunity International.
I first met Matthew in an interview at Médecins Sans Frontières to be their Communications Intern, and immediately we hit it off. You know those people that come into your life, and you are like, this person is going to be a friend for life; that is how I felt and still feel with him. He is a heart on his sleeve kind of guy and so deeply passionate about making the world a better place.
What I personally love about this podcast is the raw vulnerability; he showed up in this podcast in all of his authenticity, from sharing the challenges that can come with being a writer, and how the experience of flow state can lead you in a promising direction in your creativity. He shares about his relationship with the ocean and how it helps in his healing process from things that he has both seen and experienced in his humanitarian work. And, towards the end we speak of a specific project he did with maternal and child health in Nigeria. I will preface this with a trigger warning as we do speak about death and the trauma that can be found in witnessing this up close and first hand. Matthew is quite emotive about this subject and I ask that we have compassion and hold space for those who dedicate their lives to seeing things most of us do not, in the peaceful fight for increased awareness about the imbalance that we have around the world regarding access to health.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have a wonderful woman with a solid mindset, Lisa Tamati. Lisa, over the past 25 years has ran over 140 ultra-marathons, from racing in the Sahara to the Gobi to Death Valley in the US which mind you reaches temperatures of over 50 degrees celsius, to the other extreme of running 222km in a non-stop race in the Himalayas!
Lisa is a coach, international speaker, host of her own podcast ‘Pushing the Limits’, has produced many adventure film documentaries and even hosted her own TV Show. She is the author of three best selling books: Running Hot, Running to Extremes and her more recent one Relentless: How a Mother and Daughter Defied the Odds. I was fortunate enough to read all three books just before the podcast and it was a real journey to follow Lisa from her early beginnings.
Sometimes with people such as Lisa, you hear of 140 ultra-marathons, and put them subconsciously on a pedestal as if they are somewhat non-human. But as you are aware, for this very reason, I have this podcast, to humanise people such as Lisa, because she wasn’t always the lady she is today who has so much experience and a strong understanding of who she is. She was actually quite the contrast.
In her earlier years, Lisa experienced toxic relationships that were all born out of a lack of self-worth, she was a self-assessed people pleaser and experienced depression with suicidal thoughts. But it is in this podcast she shares how the evolution of her running tied in with how she personally evolved.
Lisa is a pretty real and raw kind of girl, she is a say it how it is type, and I personally love this approach as it takes us to the nitty gritty most are somewhat uncomfortable to talk about, even though it is indeed these topics that tend to be at times the most important. We get pretty deep, many times through story, such as carrying the shock of a divorce that happened 1 week before running 222km through a desert in Niger with food poisoning. That is an interesting one! We discuss how to navigate knowing when an endurance sport is doing more damage than what it is worth, and some pretty awesome mindset strategies of how to approach not only an event that is going to challenge you, but challenges that come into our everyday lives.
Towards the end Lisa shares her story up until date of her mum having a brain aneurysm that caused serious brain damage and resulted in her mum being, as she describes, like a baby in a woman’s body. I won’t share too much here, as she shares it with great detail in this podcast, but I will say, what has happened since then is a true miracle, and I like to think, they only ever happen if you believe they will happen, and relentless belief is certainly what Lisa had.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the warm-hearted and hilarious Sebastian Terry. Seb is a keynote speaker, international author of his book 100 things, TV Host & Founder of 100 Things Philanthropic Movement in which he has raised almost half a million dollars for charities.
In his mid-twenties, Seb lost a close friend which influenced him to ask the more deeper and deliberate questions like, “Who am I and why am I here?” But the question that changed the trajectory of his life was, “Am I happy?” In that moment, he realised the answer to this was no and this fuelled his motivation to create a list of 100 things that he wanted to achieve in this lifetime; an explorative journey focused on the pursuit of happiness.
From cycling through Cuba, completing a triathlon, to delivering a baby, Seb has successfully ticked off 76 experiences on his list and inspired many during this time, to create and tick off their own lists. He even created an organisation called KindSum which he has integrated into 100 things that focuses on peer-to-peer, people-to-people, helping each other with acts of kindness.
What I personally loved about this podcast is Seb’s humour and humility. He shares with us his development from being one who was searching for experiences far outside of his comfort zone, through ticking #26 on his list, ‘Help a Stranger’, he found his true purpose in helping other people tick off their own items. He emphasises the importance of, what he terms ‘healthy selfishness’, so you can in turn show up as your best self to be in service to others. He encourages us to know who we are and to be that, and also shares what he truly believes is the secret to a happy life.
Seb’s mother has early onset dementia, and in knowing this before the podcast I asked permission to speak with him about this. He shares vulnerably what it is like for a loved one to forget who you are, and really admirably shares his insight into how to continue living your life in an empowering way and upholding a close relationship with someone that is experiencing such impairment.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the amazing Kevin Webber. In 2014, at the young age of 49, Kevin was informed that he has terminal prostate cancer, and may only live as short as two more years. What is truly just incredible about this story, is that Kevin is still with us, 7-years post-diagnosis. Yes you are Kevin! We love you! So, Kevin attributes his longevity in the context of a terminal illness to his running and his daily practice of planning tomorrow, today. I asked Kevin to send over his bio so that I could truly honour the running he has done, but I’m sorry Kevin, I just can’t. I am so proud of you as there is just far too many to mention! From ultramarathons in Cambodia, Spain, Albania, Jordan, pulling a 40kg sled over 120miles, almost 200km, in the Arctic, being the only person with stage 4 cancer to finish MDS 4 times, a 250km stage run through the Sahara Desert, and more recently, due to Covid restrictions, decided to run the MDS in his own backyard, which totalled an astonishing 2,600 laps! Oh and he is on a running streak, having ran over 540 days in a row so far covering over 6,600km.
He has been awarded the British Empire Medal from the Queens Birthday Honours list and was granted the Freedom of the City of London. Kevin has raised over 250,000 pounds for Prostate Cancer UK and has inspired his family and friends to raise over 500,000 pounds, totalling to a life-changing and life-saving 750,000 pounds!
So personally, what I love about this podcast is I very quickly came to realise, there was no necessity in hearing my own voice. Kevin is a storyteller, and you will find shortly into the podcast, I allow the space for him to share his very vulnerable story with no interruption. Yes this podcast goes for 2 hours, the man can sure talk, but I encourage you, that if at any moment you feel you don’t have enough time for this, you are in a hurry, other things to do, to be aware of those thoughts because for the next 2 hours these are the words from a man with a terminal illness. These are words from a man that has lived that so-many-things-to-do kind of life, and as he shares from the wise words of Confucius, “We have two lives, and the second begins when we realise we have one.”
... I ask that we be the kind of people today that really take the time to listen to Kevin. For us not to be the person to be faced with the darkness of regret when we come to truly face death. But, as Kevin shares, to be truly proud of who we are everyday, to also enjoy what we do everyday and ensure we are always making good memories.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the just magnificent, joyous, incredible Siri Lindley. Siri is both a Triathlon World Champion, Aquathlon World Champion and winner of the ITU World Cup Series having been the number 1 world ranked athlete in 2001 and 2002.
In 2003 Siri retired at number 1 in the world and proceeded to coach other athletes to 9 World Championship Crowns, 2 Olympic Medals and a lot more. She is the author of her book: Surfacing: From the depths of self-doubt to winning big and living fearlessly, and she is the co-founder of Believe Ranch and Rescue which focuses on rescuing horses from slaughter with her beautiful aussie wife Rebekah Keat, who is also a world champion triathlete!
Amongst all of this Siri is also a speaker for the legend himself, Tony Robbins, which is where I first personally connected with Siri. I was part of the virtual Unleash The Power Within Event last year, and immediately upon her speaking I felt the deep authenticity of her energy and in that moment decided I need to be in the space of this person. I signed up and participated in her Mastermind, then proceeded to do group coaching, and even get a little ultra-marathon guidance from her and fortunately for me, I can now call Siri a close friend and family.
In this conversation Siri shares vulnerably her story of not feeling enough. Through this feeling she became a people pleaser, and developed anxiety, depression and OCD which was only fuelled by her discovering she was gay and this not being accepted by some of those who were closest to her. She shares with us the way in which she overcame this sense of not enoughness leading her to becoming fearlessly authentic; to be free of suffering; to love herself, to feel truly worthy and to feel safe in her own skin.
In late 2019, Siri was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, and she shares with us the importance of making a decision in those defining moments of what to focus on and what such adversity means. She encourages us to believe in our decisions and to do whatever it takes to make them happen; for her this meant not only surviving, but thriving. She emphasises the importance of the appreciation of simple things, of gratitude and of being present.

Hello beautiful people
On today’s podcast we have the wonderful Jamie Hildage who specialises in multi-stage ultramarathons. In 2016 he was the winner of the Big Red Run which is a 250km run over 6 days in outback Australia. In 2017 he came third in The Track which is a 520km run over 10 days between Alice Springs and Uluru, and is only 1 of 2 people who have finished The Track twice, his second time being in 2019. This coming September, Jamie plans on running 1,100km over 11 days from the South Australian border, across NSW to Bondi Beach in support of the Australian Childhood Foundation which he has named the Hard Way Home. Jamie is a father of two beautiful daughters, a Mindset Coach, motivational speaker, Revvies Energy Ambassador and a proud member of the Raidlight Australian running team.
What I found personally fascinating about Jamie in this conversation, is that he was formerly an Executive in Banking for 20 years, and it was indeed the defining time in his life where he was made redundant from this work and separated from his wife, that truly fuelled his pursuit of long-distance running and a journey of deep reflection and self-exploration. Jamie wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to the trails, deserts and dusty tracks, and it is in this podcast that he shares with us what freedom came to mean to him in his transition from what he terms meandering through life, to now living with choice and intention. He emphasises the importance of making conscious decisions in our daily lives, to treat colleagues as we would friends and family and he inspires us to understand that at the core of your journey to achievement, the only person who can truly get you there, is you.

Hello beautiful people
At the age of 8 Alyssa was the youngest person to complete the grueling Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea, at the age of 10 she trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, at the age of 14 she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and at the age of 19 she climbed to the top of Mount Everest, which awarded her with a record for being the youngest Australian to complete such a feat.
Personally though, what I found the most fascinating about Alyssa was that in all her success, there was a point where it became less about the hype that came with breaking records and more of an intentional journey of self-exploration. At the age of 21, Alyssa became the youngest woman in the world to climb both the North and South Routes of Mount Everest, but amongst all the media available on Alyssa, this world-record breaking achievement was noticeably less spoken about. Naturally I asked the question why, and it is in this podcast that Alyssa shares openly about that turning point where she felt the need to connect with herself again and what she loved doing, outside of the attention she normally received. She speaks about the importance of being clear on your identity through separating what you do from who you are, and she shares vulnerably and courageously her experience with depression that was primarily due to her sense of directionless post-Everest and the pressure of people asking, “What’s next?”

Hello beautiful people
In 2007, at just 41, Heather was diagnosed with Stage 1 Ovarian Cancer. Providing what she terms a ‘second chance at life’, this awakened her adventurous spirit that had been lying dormant in her former years. Now, she shares, is not the time to be wasted. At the age of 47 she participated in her first running event, a 4km park run, which unbeknownst to her was the beginning of a journey that would take her to now having completed over forty marathons and eight ultra-marathons. A mum of 2, she trekked 1,700km over 152 days along the Great Himalaya Trail in Nepal with her two adult children, and is currently part of a group of 10 who are running a virtual race around the world that spreads 50,000km of foot steps between them. An Ambassador for organisations such as Ovarian Cancer Australia, CanToo and the Indigenous Marathon Foundation, Heather places purpose and importance on raising awareness in conjunction with her adventures.
In this conversation with Heather she shares insight into how the lowest times in our lives can be real turning points in who we choose to become, and that in those moments we need to choose to be brave. She challenges us to embody resilience, determination and perseverance in those endeavors of achievement that we seek, but not without passion, presence and a positive mindset along the journey. All our failures have ever been, she shares, are learning experiences and through that she encourages us that no matter what is sent our way in life, allow ourselves to receive it in the form of gratitude.
